Monday

“Let your light shine before men

in such a way that they may see your good works,

and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

~Matthew 5:16, NASB~

Thankfulness – Day 3: I‘m thankful for Operation Christmas Child because it is a way to send shoeboxes of gifts and JESUS to needy children all around the world.   Being able to share the material goods is a real blessing, but sending Christian literature in the appropriate language and at the appropriate age level is such a ministry.  Thank-you, Rev. Franklin Graham for giving us this opportunity for the past 20 years.

Today is the World Day of Prayer for Christian Women.  Kedron Baptist Church will host us at 10:00 this morning.  After the meeting, we will have lunch together so we can visit.  Pray for Christians around the world as they share Jesus.

Glenda McKean is home recovering from rotator cup surgery.  Pray for her during the six weeks she will be unable to use her right arm.  Thank-God for a God who has provided a way to have our bodies healed from some of the things that slow us down and make us miserable.  As you use your favored arm, please remember her as she tries to do everything with her left arm and hand.

Pray for our friend and neighbor, Sherry Day, as she gets the results of last Wednesday’s biopsy.  She and her family would appreciate your prayers today.

I know of numerous people undergoing medical tests/procedures this week.  Mrs. Ashley Statham, Mrs. Theople Hurst and Mrs. Donna Fay Miller are among that number.  Please pray for them.

Kathy Wales asks us to pray for Chris as he has “a spinal decompression and fusion on Tues afternoon around 3:30 at the BR General on Bluebonnet”.   Pray his recovery time is not difficult and goes by quickly.  Pray for Chris as he tries not to do some of the things he is accustomed to doing now.

There was a fire in the Chesbrough area that destroyed the home a family was renting.  Yesterday, I needed to know a little more before sharing the information.  Last night, God sent the family to The Lord’s Church where I had the opportunity to speak with them.  It was C.J. Williams, Cory Didon’s younger brother.  The family, with six children, is staying with C.J’s mother east of Tangipahoa.  Pray for them today as they look for a place to live and make many important decisions.  Thank God for those who have been willing to help and have already done so.

Gold City and Andy Taylor were both very good last night.  I haven’t “tapped out” so much music in a long time.  What a blessing The Lord’s Church provided to our area last night.  It was good to see so many Christian friends of various faiths in one building.

Sunday

First, be aware of the time change this morning.  If you didn’t set the clocks back last night, you should do so now, but if you don’t you can go on to church an hour early and enjoy the extra time to read your Bible and pray.  That wouldn’t be a bad idea after all.

“Everyone should be quick to listen,

slow to speak

and slow to become angry,

because human anger does not produce

the righteousness that God desires.

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth

and the evil that is so prevalent

and humbly accept the word planted in you,

which can save you.”

~James 1:19b-21 NIV~

Forgiving others is a BIG thing.  It is certainly not a Godly trait to hold grudges.

THANKS!

So many people contributed to the shoeboxes, to packing them, and to shipping them.  We were a little short of our goal for shipping, plus we packed an extra ten boxes so we will need a little extra money today ($7.00/box).  Our church set and surpassed an all time record for the number of boxes packed.  The children who receive these boxes will be so blessed by all the treasures they find.  My hope is that they also find Jesus!

Mrs. Theople Hurst came to church yesterday afternoon to help prepare the boxes for the packing party and stayed until every one was ready for deliver.  Pray for her as she continues trying to get a diagnosis and treatment for her recent health issue.

Gold City and Andy Taylor

It’s not ofter a group such as Gold City comes to the Kentwood area, so make your plans to be at The Lord’s Church at 6 P.M. tonight.  To add some “icing” to the event, Andy Taylor will be singing during the intermission for Gold City.  Tickets were not sold. Donations will be received tonight.

Hope Center had another good week.  We have learned that appliances and furniture are in big demand.  If you have something and cannot transport it, please call Hope to make arrangements for a pick up.  The number there is 247-2235.  Remember, they are not open of Monday, but work half a day on Saturday.  Thanks for volunteering and for making purchases there.  So many people are being blessed.  The number of people signed up for the food bank is more than two hundred!  We are providing better and better boxes each time.

Devotional, Scripture, and a Song

“O Lord Almighty,                                                                                                                                                                  blessed is the man who trusts in You.”                                                                                                                                                                 ~Psalm 84:11-12~

Reminder:  Tuesday the “young” ladies of FBC,K will celebrate the October birthdays.  We had to delay this by a week, but will meet Tuesday at 11:00 at The Cafe.  Join us for a sweet time with a number of ladies from the church.

Reminder number 2:  Today is the day to bring your frozen  food for a family.  Please bring your quart size filled bags to my Sunday School classroom before Sunday School.  The food will be delivered this afternoon.  Your efforts will greatly assist the people!

Have a blessed day!

Saturday

in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship,

Jadon’s Journey

As a parent with a child with a rare diagnosis, I can so relate to this. I have spent many hours researching in order to find the best help possible for Jadon. I’m very thankful that his doctors not only listen to me, but research themselves to find the best treatments and therapies for Jadon. If it wouldn’t have been for the research we have done, Jadon wouldn’t be where he is today. So thankful!

Maggie Lee Henson passed away due to injuries she suffered when the church bus she was riding on had a tire issue that caused a wreck.  Her parents kept us updated as we all prayed for healing.  God healed Maggie Lee in heaven.  Her parents have made good things happen because of the years they had Maggie Lee living with them.

I remember hearing this song for the first time.  I was at Natalbany Baptist Church.  Uncle Charles Tolleson was leading the music for revival.  After church, I asked my parents why 99 sheep would be left alone just so one could be saved. That very night, I learned how important each and every person is to God.  I was five or six years old and have loved the song every since.  I just shared the story with David for the first time.  I’m glad the devotional for today triggered this memory.

I hope this “favorite” sticks with me today and that I remember the value of each person to the kingdom forever.

“How blessed is he who considers the helpless;

The Lord will deliver him in a day of trouble.”

~Psalm 41:1, NASB~

Operation Christmas Child

  • In Ukraine, a shoebox gift distribution took place at a Connect Center where kids come as the court system takes custody of them. Many have physical issues related to lack of care by parents, some have AIDS, and some have no parents at all. They are here for 3 months before being sent to an orphanage. This is an extremely emotional time and place for them. An OCC ministry partner has been working at this Connect Center for 15 years and has recently had a favorable response to begin planning for OCC’s discipleship program The Greatest Journey!
  • A ten year-old boy from Nicaragua shared his testimony, “Now that I have Jesus in my heart, I know that I have to grow and trust in God. I’ve been sick and have been healed. I have also had big changes in my life- the best of which has been my salvation. My parents tell me that I’m now a son who makes them glad. I’ve been impacted by learning of Christ’s sacrifice for us. Many thanks for all you’ve done for me. God bless you.”
  • In 2006, OCC delivered over 44,000 shoebox gifts to children in need living in Vietnam!
  • Nebojsa had epilepsy and often went to the hospital for treatment. When he received his box in the hospital, he opened it impatiently. Inside, he found a hat and gloves, candies and a school set including a compass and ruler. When he saw this, Nebojsa started crying. His mother explained that he was failing math class because he told the teacher he forgot his supplies, but the truth was that his family didn’t have the money to buy them. He held the supplies in his arms for a long time, with tears in his eyes.
  • “I had total knee replacement six weeks ago and this is what I did to keep my hands busy and my sanity intact, 41 ragdolls and 65 hats for Operation Christmas Child. Praise the Lord!” – Judy S.
  • “No matter what storm you face, you need to know God loves you. He has not abandoned you.” – Franklin Graham
  • “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV)

Hope Center in Roseland is an opportunity to give of yourself all year long.  I am scheduling volunteers for each week.  Let me know when you are available.  It is best for scheduling if you work 9-1, 1-5, or 9-5 on a regular basis.  For example, one couple works every Thursday afternoon.  If you cannot commit on a regular basis, please sign up as you become available.  If you are a member of any Two Rivers Baptist Church, you are automatically qualified to become a volunteer.
