Please pray for Mrs. Peggy Luce, formerly of this area.  She fell yesterday and broke her eye socket and nose as well as getting some cuts.  Her husband Dr. David Luce pastored in this area while she taught school here.

 

 

 

Sara Inkenbrandt Walker

June 24, 1947 – October 19, 2019

A resident of Amite and a former resident of Kentwood, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Richard Murphy Hospice House in Hammond. She was born June 24, 1947 in New Orleans and was 72 years of age. She is survived by her children, Russell Walker and wife, Melinda; Judy Walker, Debbie Foster, Justin Lee, and William Carl Hayes; grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Russell Walker, II, Peyton Walker, Amy Turbeville, Bryan Knight, Shawn Walker, Josh Beddingfield, Keri Newman, Charleigh Rose Lee; great-grandchildren, Amiah Walker, Alyssee Walker, Annsley Walker, Cassie Knight, Weslynn McElwee, Thomas Turbeville, Bella Newman, Jayden Newman, Lexi Walker, Janel Walker, and Bryleigh Knight; great-great-grandson, Nathan Jones; sister, Sandy Welch. Boys and girls from 2 –  14 will have an opportunity to complete a form/coloring sheet for the shoeboxes.  Forms will be distributed this morning and can be returned tonight or Saturday at the packing party.  The forms will be place in shoeboxes for children of the same age and sex.  Money to help with postage is still being collected.  Mark your envelope “OCC Postage”, please.  Thank-you.

 

 

 

The shoebox packing party is Saturday at 1 P.M.  We won’t be long, but it will be rewarding.

We have prayed for Dollie Frazier and her eye problems recently.  We need to continue to do so.  She has been having mini strokes in both eyes and is now hospitalized at North Oaks to help her save her vision.

Calling all Prayer Warriors I am now having strokes in my right eye as well. Dr Rhodes put me in the hospital at North Oakes for a few days to try and save my right eye. Thank you for prayer. God is Master Physcian!

One week from today, at 1 P.M., FBC Kentwood will have their packing party.  You are invited to come pack and pray for shoeboxes.  Wear your Christmas colors and bring a Christmas “goodie” to share with the other packers.  Packing always goes quickly, so don’t be late.

 

 

 

Yesterday, I shared that I believe in praying.  A reader responded with example of how prayer has working in their family.  The more we believe, the more we will pray!  I had an older friend who now resides in her heavenly home.  She told me for several years about all the things she wished she could still do, but couldn’t.  She always ended by saying she could still pray.  She faithfully prayed for my family and the families of many of you.  As soon as David and I would get settled in to visit with her, she would begin to ask about those she had been praying for.  She wanted her prayers to be timely and consistent with the current needs.  I miss my friend, but I greatly miss her Christian example.  I’m thankful for the lessons I learned from her.

Betty Taylor shared that her sister, Glenda,  has continued to improve and was released from the hospital yesterday.

 

 

 

Carol Ann Cleveland shared that her daughter, Betty Rainey, had the shunt implanted and was doing so well she went to a regular room rather than ICU following her surgery.

 

 

 

Andy Taylor’s niece had a lung to collapse for the second time.  She’s better, but was informed her lung will probably collapse again.  Pray her her lung to improve and for the number of collapses to be fewer than the doctor expects.

 

 

 

Smiley Conerly had a MRI done yesterday and will get the results in about a week.  Pray for him as he searches for answers.

 

 

 

Buddy Morris got another good report yesterday.  His good reports are not what the doctor expected when Buddy was diagnosed.  Thank God for the improvement Buddy has made since that first diagnosis.

 

 

 

Josiah Huckaby  continues to improve, but is still dependent on oxygen, which means he will be hospitalized for a while.  Thank God that Josiah has two caring parents who chose him knowing he would require special care.  Josiah was blessed to be chosen by Job and KK!

 

 

 

Ladies, make plans to be at the Two River’s WMU meeting at FBC, Kentwood Monday.  Leadership will meet at 9:00 before the 10:00 meeting.  All ladies are invited.  A covered dish meal will follow the meeting.  I thank God for the ladies who stepped up and are doing an excellent job in my absence.

Today, I want to start by saying we got a great rain yesterday.  I know God’s timing is always right, so I am thankful it was our turn to get some rain.

 

 

 

Josiah Huckaby

Josiah is definitely feeling better today. He’s been awake way more today than yesterday. He is still requiring quite a bit of oxygen but I feel like he’s kind of stabled out with that for now. The PICU dr today feels most of his symptoms are viral vs infection. He did test positive for rhinovirus, which is very common. Most kids don’t even know they have it but for kids like Josiah, it can cause some major issues. They have also narrowed down which bacteria is growing in his trach so we know exactly what he needs to be treated with. The current plan is to discharge when he gets back to his normal 0.5 L of oxygen. We have no clue when that will be. I figure at least another day or so because he’s currently on 3 L with his sats are hanging out at the lower end of his allowed range.

Two Time Changes

  • On Nov. 3rd, we change our clocks back one hour.  Do something special for one hour that day with the extra hour.
  • The Operation Christmas Child Packing Party at FBC, Kentwood will begin at 1 P.M., rather than 6 P.M.  We will be able to pack the shoeboxes and finish at a more reasonable time.

 

 

 

“Shoeboxes” – If you want to pack a shoebox(es) as a family project, please let me know.  (You can message me here, see me at church, or give me a call at home.) I can provide you with a red and green official box(es).  You still have a month to pack them, so it is not too late.  FBC, Kentwood packs their boxes early so we can prepare to be a drop-off site in November.

 

 

 

Postage for Shoeboxes – It costs $9.00 to ship each box.  As of the end of last week, we had collected about 70% of the amount we need to ship the FBC boxes.  You can give in the church office any day or put your donation in the offering plate Sunday morning if you choose to do so.  Thanks to those who have helped with postage.  You are greatly appreciated!

Please pray for my classmate, Barbara Daniel Yerby, who lives in Amite.  Barbara has double pneumonia.

 

 

 

Tomorrow night the Two Rivers Associational Annual Meeting will be held at Roseland.  It is always interesting and you get to see your friends from other area churches.  The meeting begins at 6 P.M.

 

 

 

Thanks to those who supported shoeboxes by providing postage.  Postage is $9.00 per shoebox.  If you didn’t contribute to the items inside the box, maybe you would like to provide the shipping of some boxes.  Remember, each shoebox touches seven lives!

Fieldon John Fulda

April 30, 1931 – October 08, 2019

Fieldon John Fulda, a resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, LA. He was born April 30, 1931 in Camden, AR and was 88 years of age. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and teacher.

He was a music educator for over five decades, including Southeastern Christian College and Burgin High School in Kentucky; and at Amite High School, where he taught band and choir for 28 years. He loved his band and choir “kids” through whom his legacy continues. He is also a retired Church of Christ minister serving in Indiana, Kentucky and Louisiana. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from LSU and Master’s Degree from SLU. He was proud to be a member of the Golden Band from Tigerland and was a lifelong LSU sports fan, beginning as a Boy Scout assisting spectators. His voice will be missed during the national anthem and alma mater at LSU home football games. He was  a featured soloist in numerous oratorios and other religious works throughout the U.S. and performed in and directed local theater productions. For many summers he was the director at Antioch Music Camp in Kentucky.

He was an alumnus of Amite High School, where he was a member of the Key Club and was elected Tri-State Governor. He was a co-founder of the Tangi Dog Training Club and a member of the Amite Arts Council. He loved reading, fishing, and was an avid beekeeper.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clytae Wright Fulda;  three daughters, Jana Fulda Russell and Greg, Lisa Caryn Fulda and David Lam, and  Beth Fulda van Mullem and Robbie; grandchildren Johanna Garland-Fulda Russell,  Lauren Ansley van Mullem and Julia Catherine van Mullem; brother George Earle Fulda, Sr., step-grandchildren Sarah and Jerod King, Megan and Mark McCarver, Justin and Lydia Russell, and Benjamin and Katy Russell; and nieces and nephews Chuck, Cindy, George and Nina. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Julius Fulda, Jr. and Georgie Virine Stafford Fulda; brother, Charles Julius “Pete” Fulda, III. I’m writing this shortly before mid-night, but calling it “Saturday”.

 

 

 

About 6 P.M., we received a rain for a few minutes.  David asked me it I wanted to go out and watch it rain.  I told him it wouldn’t rain long enough for that.  He started out.  At that moment, the rain stopped.  I’m hope we get rain over the weekend that lasts longer, but I am thankful for the rain we received.

    A resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his home. He was born November 15, 1948 in Amite and was 70 years of age. He was a graduate of Tulane University. As an avid sportsman, he had a deep love of fishing and hunting with his dogs. In his early years, he was a fiddle player in Just Pickin’ Bluegrass Band. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Robinson Ellis; sons, Bolivar Kemp Ellis of Amite, Jesse Clinton Ellis and and wife, Sumerset Bivens Ellis of Salt Lake City, UT; 2 grandchildren, Emery June Ellis and Ansel Cotton Ellis; sisters, Martina Ellis of Amite and Eleanor Dameron of Takoma Park, MD; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a wide circle of many friends.   • Jonathan Serigne, the man we have been praying for for about a week, passed away tonight (Friday).  I have prayed for peace and comfort for this family.  Please pray now and at 8:30 each night for a while.  I’ll post the obituary when one becomes available.

 

 

We will meet at 8 A.M. in the fellowship hall to finish up the shoeboxes we need this year.  Thank-you to those who have been coming and to those who will show up in the morning to paint some more.

Scripture Writing – October 4 – I Timothy 6: 11-13

 

 

 

I have no idea how many students took their Bibles to school yesterday, but for each one who did, I am thankful.  I’m even more thankful for the students who attend church each week and read their Bible.  It’s important that each one makes a choice to follow Jesus.

 

 

 

We have almost painted enough shoeboxes.  Tomorrow, we will be working from 8:00-11:00 A.M. to finish up.  Our packing party is three weeks from tomorrow.  Let me know if you will be available to help finish the preparations.  Mark you calendar for the last Saturday of the month so you won’t miss the packing party!  We always have a great time as we put all the items in the boxes and prepare for shipping.

Today, our students are encouraged to “Bring Your Bible to School”.

 

 

 

Jan Hammons sent me an update on Jonathan Sarigne.  He is a little better, but needs to improve some more to get chemo.  The family asks you to continue to pray for him at 8:30 each night.  He is 36.

 

 

 

Smiley Conerly’s cardiologist said Smiley’s problem is not his heart, so they are continuing to search for answers.  Pray for Smiley and his family as they deal with the uncertainly of now knowing what problem is the root of his illness.

 

 

 

My childhood neighbor and life-long friend, Mrs. Juanita Pritchett, passed away.  She had three boys and lived next to us, a family with three girls.  She has been hospitalized a number of times in Greensburg where we were able to see her.  I visited her last year at her home and bought some Roseland cookbooks.  Recently, David and I saw her in Walmart.  She said her boys were good to her, but just didn’t buy the groceries she wanted, so she drove herself to the store and was shopping for what she wanted to cook.  She had some real tragedies in her life, but never let them get the best of her.  I’m glad I knew her!  One more thing, she was exactly a year older than my mother.

Juanita Singleton Pritchett

March 26, 1928 – October 02, 2019

A resident of Roseland, LA, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2019 at her home. She was born March 26, 1928 in Roseland, LA and was 91 years of age. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and WMU. She loved gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. She is survived by 2 sons, Chester Pritchett and fiancé, Linda Cutrer, Roseland, and John Pritchett, Jr. and wife, Virgie, Roseland ; grandchildren, Clay Pritchett and wife, Elizabeth, Houston, TX, Roddi Lynn Blackmon and husband, Jason, Jersey Village, TX, Rhonda Hoolahan and husband, Donald, Hammond, Amy Ballard and husband, Jimmy, Roseland, Shane Hendry, Roseland, Clint Hendry and wife, Beckie, Roseland; great-grandchildren, Julian and Alaina Pritchett, Keeli Blackmon, Baylor Blanchard, Emilee Edwards, Hallie Hendry, Logan Ballard and Seth Hendry; 1 sister, Almeda Miller, Arcola.
