Sunday and Sunday Night

I apologize for my post not publishing this morning.  I saw it “unpublished” and few minutes ago, but when I tried to publish it, it disappeared.  Jason checked for it and cannot find it either.  I’ll try to add some highlights and add a request from Mrs. Mary Miller and a new obituary tonight.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher has been enjoying her company.  She has good caregivers, including her daughter, Julee.

Linda Blount Johnson lives in Arcola.  She is having a pain in her hip and trouble walking.  She would like you to pray for her.

Landon Estay wrote this about his baby daughter.

Claire Isabella Estay was delivered stillborn at 12:47 AM this morning. She is beautiful with a head full of hair.

On behalf of me and my family, I want to thank each and every one of you who have reached out to us. I haven’t responded to most of you, but each message is appreciated and makes us feel loved.

Memorial arrangements will be announced once finalized. We will have one in Texas and one in Louisiana. Again, thank you all for your love and caring.

Mrs. Mary Miller requests prayer for her son-in-law, Jack McCarte (53), who will be having heart surgery at St. Dominic’s in Jackson, MS early tomorrow morning.  Hopefully, a stent is all that will be needed because previous health issues will make open-heart more of a risk.  Please pray for Jack and all involved in the surgery.

Thankfulness: Day 27

Today, I’m thankful for those who gave their Thanksgiving Day to provide service even it it meant being away from family.  The list is long: military, law enforcement, emergency workers, food service, store employees, etc.  I’m also thankful to those who open their homes to elderly neighbors, buy a meal for a man having his first Thanksgiving without his wife, caring for young couples far away from family, helping families spending the holiday in a hospital, etc.  These people remind me of the the hymn, “Others”.  I think these people make life better/happier for others.  What a blessing they are!

As you have already read, my spasticity affects my left leg and left hand. I’ve noticed that the improvement is more noticeable in my left leg than in my left hand. There’s a reason for this and it’s because of simple physics. The specific gravity of Baclofen is greater than the specific gravity of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This causes intrathecal Baclofen to “settle” in the lower CSF space, rather than it being evenly distributed throughout all of the CSF that surrounds my spinal cord. Because of this “settling”, intrathecal Baclofen works better for the lower extremities than it does for the upper extremities. This doesn’t mean that Baclofen does not help relax muscle spasticity in upper extremities; the benefits are just more noticeable in the lower extremities. I developed this little specific gravity theory during my research prior to the surgical implantation of my intrathecal Baclofen pump and knew this was a possibility. Now, I can tell you it is for real—my leg is winning the “less spasticity” race. I think it’s cool how we can’t escape physics, although, it would be nice if I could escape it this time.

Frances Gay received a wonderful health report yesterday!  I’m so glad she called with the results before she left Hammond.  God is good!

Mr. James Miller went to St. Tammany again and began the treatment that was scheduled for December 4th.  Keep him high on your list.

Operation Christmas Child report from Mary Alice Fox (Gastonia, N.C.)

Greetings from NC.  Hope you are doing well and are looking forward to a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I have followed with interest your Operation Christmas Child activities and thought you would like to hear what we are doing here.
Our church serves as a relay station for churches in 3 counties.  Frank and I have worked there during collection week since we retired – he longer than I since he retired earlier.  When I walked in Monday I was amazed at the number of boxes – never seen that many there that early.  It seems that when they were setting up the building Sunday they received almost 800 boxes and they weren’t even open for collection.  Across the course of Monday – our first day – we packed 1416 shoeboxes into cartons to be shipped to Charlotte.  That was a record number.  So I thought Tuesdaywould be slow.  Not so.  1463 boxes came in that day.  We stayed busy all day – so much for a slow day.  I didn’t work again until today which is the final day.  Don’t have a count but for the first time ever we had to have a 5th cargo trailer to carry all the boxes.  We average 25,000 boxes when you include those that were boxed when they came to us from other relay stations.  We are certain that we did better this year so there was much excitement at the end of the day.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Mary Alice

Today at 11:00  – “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party at The Cafe in Kentwood

There will be NO Bible Study this week due to the holiday.

Some churches are not having prayer meeting Wednesday.  Check with your local church.

We will be collecting stamps to affix to Christmas cards donated by Miss Fay Shoemaker which are being sent to prisoners at the parish jail.  This will enable them to write to family members this Christmas season.  The deadline is Sunday, November 29th.

Today’s devotional will be different.

Joey and Rory – http://thislifeilive.com/enough/ (written about a month ago)

Think on that word “Enough”.  To say it means so much.  It means “Peace”!

“It is Well with My Soul” can only come with God’s peace.

http://tasteofcountry.com/joey-feek-it-is-well-with-my-soul/ (Watch the video.)

Now, is a good time to make your list of what you are thankful for this year.  I doubt new cars, houses, boat, jobs, etc. will be on your list after you read and watch these links.

Thankfulness: Day 24 – Peace in my soul

I trust you can also say you have that peace.  If not, seek a person who can help you reach that point.

This morning I failed to include some information from Frances Gay.  Her first great, grandchild who was born this week, Karsen Scott, weighed just over 10 pounds.  Join with the family as they celebrate this new life.

Also, the Shaw family of Kentwood is mourning the loss of Lance Shaw.  He will probably be remembered at a memorial service toward the end of the week.  I’ll update you when all this is official.  In the meantime, and in the coming days, please pray for Coach Shaw and the many other family members.

Thursday

Monday

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you,

for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly

about my weaknesses,

so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

That is why, for Christ’s sake,

I delight in weaknesses,

in insults,

in hardships,

in persecutions,

in difficulties.

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Brandy and Raymond Cutrer will become the parents of a new baby for a total of three today.  Pray for them today and in the days to come as they make the adjustment to the growing family.

Monday

Consider it pure joy, my brothers,

whenever you face trials of many kinds,

because you know that the testing of your faith

develops perseverance.

Perseverance must finish its work

so that you may be mature and complete,

not lacking anything.

~James 1:2-4~

A quote I heard at church last night:

“Christians need the patience of a farmer

and the perseverance of an athlete.”

                                                ~Caleb Smith~

I love to have Scripture show up in timely ways.

Who would have thought this verse would come to my computer

shortly after the quote I heard?

God has a way of making his points clear to us!

May we all be more like farmers and athletes!

I talked with Wendy L. Alford at church last night.  She said her dad, Mike Lambert, is now in rehab and improving some.  Please continue to pray for Mike and his family.

Last night, Lisa Piner, said her mother, Alice Faye Lee, did not need a stent or a by-pass. She will be treated with medication and will possibly be coming home Monday.  Please continue to pray for this family.

Thursday of next week, the ladies will host “Ladies Night: Follow the Ants to the Picnic”.  All ladies from 3-103 are invited to come picnic with us at the FBC fellowship hall of FBC.  You do not need to attend church at Kentwood to come.  All ladies are invited. Don’t miss out!

Check the area in the hallway of the fellowship hall closest to the coffee pot to get ideas for your purchases.

I need to borrow three or four  Scrabble games for a missions lesson.  If you have one I can use, please let me know.  You can bring it to me at church Sunday or Wednesday.  Please put your name on a sheet of paper inside the box.  Thanks!
