and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

Camp Living Waters

Monica Maddox, Director of Volunteers, is thrilled and overwhelmed with your contributions for the five trailers and for your willingness to prepare a meal for a group of Campers on Mission who will be there to work March 23-27.  It not too late to call and volunteer.

We are asking that your church or group provide either lunch or supper for this group (40 – 60) Monday-Thursday. I will know for certain on Sunday, March 22 the total number.

We will provide the drinks.

Lunch is served at noon. Lunch is usually something light, such as soup, sandwiches, or hamburgers. Side items have included chips, salad, or fresh fruit.

Supper is served at 5:30. In the past supper has been jambalaya, spaghetti, pork, fried chicken and even pizza. Side dishes that compliment the main course are appreciated. We can provide the garden salad items.

Desserts are not needed as they usually bring enough on their own.

In order for a meal not to be duplicated, please let me know what you wish to provide as soon as possible. I would like to have the meal schedule completed by Feb 16h, 2015.

We also are asking for volunteers to come to the camp and help out with the breakfast meal. This would be Monday – Thursday also. I need 2 volunteers each day from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. There is no serving line, but I would need help with clean up.
If you have any questions, please call my home. 985-345-3315.

This is a letter from Camp Living Waters about the need for volunteers and meals in March.  Who is available and willing?

January 21, 2015

Monday, March 23, 2015 – Friday, March 27, 2015, Camp Living Waters will have the Campers on Missions working at the camp.  Campers on Missions (COM) is a group of folks from all over the state.  They build, repair, paint and maintain church camp facilities and Louisiana College.  COM has served by getting the facilities ready for the spring and summer camps.   The camp provides the materials and supplies for the projects.   Because they are willing to minister to us by their hard work, we are asking for our local churches to help us by covering the food expense and to bless them by your ministry.

I would like to have the meal schedule completed by Feb 9th, 2015.

We also are asking for volunteers to come to the camp and help out with the breakfast meal.  This would be Monday – Thursday also.  I need 2 volunteers each day from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m.  There is no serving line, but I would need help with clean up.

Thank you so much for your prayers.

Thank-you!

I often present needs here and you graciously respond to these needs.  For example:

  • Monica Maddox is coming from Camp Living Waters Friday to pick up the items you donated.
  • We are approaching our goal for Lottie Moon.  The “candy cane” is looking real good!
  • You donate to Hope Center and give of your time to volunteer there.
  • We filled more shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child than we have ever done before.

Thank you for the many ways you show the love of God (and others) dwells in your heart!

“For a short time you have had to struggle in various trials

~1 Peter 1:6b-7, HCSB~

This morning I want to share some opportunities we have to minister to others and to improve our Biblical knowledge.

Operation Christmas Child – January

Small, brown and white lunch bags are available in the hallway across from the kitchen at FBC, K.  Select a bag/bags as an individual or a group, fill it/them, and return it/them to the containers there some time this month.  Let’s get the year started on a good foot for children around the world.  I’m hoping for and expecting great things this year.

Camp Living Waters

CLWs is in need of some pots, dishes, small kitchen appliances, etc. to set up five kitchens.  If you can share some of the extras you have at your house, please bring them to the hallway by the stairway at the office entrance to FBC, K.  Your donations will be meaningful to those serving at the camp.

Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions

I was asked if it was too late to give this year.  No, it is NEVER too late.  The International Mission Board will accept and appreciate funds at any time of the years, even though we focus on it at this time.  One hundred precent (100%) of the money they receive is used for missionary needs and ministries.

Two Rivers Associational WMU

The next quarterly meeting will be Tuesday, January 20th at Spring Creek Baptist Church at 10:00 A.M.  Rev. Ronnie Chaisson, our BASLA care minister, will be sharing mission opportunities we have.  Bring a covered dish that does not need to be reheated and meet in the new church building.

Hope Center

Hope Center is having a 50% off sale on all winter clothing, including coats.   I witnessed some happy people getting some good deals on clothing they will be able to use immediately.  Two men came and bought winter clothing for work and left with big smiles.  I was told a lady who comes in at least once a week came in and bought winter coats for all her grandchildren.  The sale also includes long-sleeved shirts and sweaters.

Yesterday, as a food distribution day there.  At this time 360 families are receiving food each month.  The food pantry has been a needed ministry to many people.  The quality of the goods distributed has greatly improved since this ministry has started.

Read the Bible in One Year – Matthew 1-2

Friday Morning Bible Study

Despite the cold weather, we had a nice turnout yesterday.  Our next meeting will be Friday at FBC, K at 10:00.  We will be studying the Proverbs 31 woman.  I think we can all admire the traits listed in the Bible and strive to improve.  If you need a study guide, please see me for one.

“Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party

Our next lunch/party will be on January 27th at 11:00 at The Cafe.  We will be celebrating the birthdays of those who had birthdays in December and January.  If you need more information, please ask.  I’ll post a list of those being honored later.

Meal for the BCM at SLU

In March, we will have our yearly opportunity to prepare and serve a meal for about 150 students.  They are blessed by the meal and the devotional led by Bro. Michael.  We are blessed by the many well-mannered students who are so thankful to have such a nice meal each week.  I know the meals attract students to the BCM.  They have been doing that for many years.  David, Jennie, Jason, and I all have eaten a number of meals there while we were students.

Ladies’ Night

A planning meeting for the next ladies’ night be be help on the afternoon of Sunday, January 18th.  If you are interested in helping in any way, please try to attend.

Our ladies’ night will be Thursday, February 26th at 6:15.  I hope you plan to be there. You do not have to be a member of FBC, Kentwood.  If a group from another church plans to attend, it would be helpful to have a headcount, if that is possible.

More information will be available after the planning meeting….

I know the information I provided today does not include everything involving all groups, but that information is available by contacting the church office at 229-8111.

Spend some time checking on/sharing with/ helping someone today.  You’ll be blessed!

Sunday

“In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness,
because we do not know what to pray for as we should,
but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings.”
~Romans 8:26, HCSB~

As many of us are enjoying the season between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are many in areas of unrest and war.  Pray for the military, missionaries, humanitarian workers, and locals who do not have the same opportunities this year.  Pray for them to know Jesus and remain faithful to Him and their assignment despite the war.  Also, please pray for families who have someone in the area, but who are trying to maintain a “normal” life and holiday season.

Thank God for those who gave some or all of their holiday time this week to serve as a missionary some or all of this week.  Two examples are:

  • FBC, Amite who served Thanksgiving dinner in New Orleans Thursday.
  • Montpelier Baptist Church who sent 17 for a week of service in Nicaragua.  They returned home yesterday.

Please pray for the Hitching Post family.  David Conatser was killed in an automobile accident. I’ll post an obituary when one is available.

Thankfulness – Day 30:  Today, I’m thankful for prayer warriors.   They pray for me, my family, you, your family, and many other people.  Their prayers are important to all of us.  If you are one of those prayer warriors, I thank you for your faith and  time devoted to prayer.  On behalf of all those for whom you pray, “Thank-you”.

Week of Prayer and Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

  • The  week of prayer for eight specific missionary families begins today.  These are not the only ones you should pray for in the coming year, but they represent lots of others who are not/can not be listed.
  • In these Week of Prayer stories, you will learn how your support enables your missionaries to:
    • help churches like yours partner on the field
    • share Jesus through human needs ministries
    • disciple church planters to take the Gospel to their own people
    • reach people creatively through songwriting and broadcasts
    • take the Scripture to a remote people in their heart language
    • minister even in war grounds
  • The Scripture we focus of this year is Matthew 28: 19-20.
  • The theme is “One Sacred Effort” meaning we can all work together to support this one goal.

In connection with the beginning of the Week of Prayer, we will have a Lottie Moon Christmas Tea this afternoon at 2:00 at FBC, Kentwood for ladies of all area church.  Ladies between the ages of 2 and 102 are invited to attend and enjoy the music, skits, etc.

You will also have the opportunity to supply money to purchase stamps for Christmas cards that have been provided.  It takes $5.00 to buy the stamps for a set of Christmas cards for an inmate at the parish prison.  Today is the last day to do this.
