Donna Fay Miller

Donna Fay is again having heart issues.  Pray the doctors can get this under control.

Betty Taylor

Betty was able to come to church on crutches.  She is doing better, but asks that we continue to pray she will not need surgery on her knee.

James Rimes

James will be having a pacemaker implanted next week.  Pray for him as he prepares for this hospital stay/procedure.

Johnnie “Lil Man” Santangelo

Hey everyone! Over the last couple of weeks, Lil Man’s control of his left side has continued to improve. He has graduated from the current therapy program he was in and tomorrow will have his evaluation for the next level therapy program. His vision has still not improved. He had been complaining that he felt like something was in his right eye. So he saw an eye doctor here. The eye doctor found that mucous patches had formed on his right eye, filamentary keratitis, is the medical term for it. This condition is caused from dry eye and can be painful. The eye doctor believes that in Lil Man’s case the dry eye is probably a result of damage to his lacrimal gland from radiation. Right now, it is just affecting the right eye but the doctor is treating the left eye also because it can occur in both eyes. We are praying that once we can get this under control, then he can begin some type of vision therapy to improve his eyesight. His next follow up MRI and doctors appointments are in Arizona next Monday, June 22nd. He has come so far and we have faith he will continue to be healed! Thank you all for your prayers and please continue to pray for continued healing and guidance on this path to complete healing! We love you all! Love, Lil Man and Megan

Sylvester Humphrey

Syl has had surgery following an accident.  He is recovering at home and is down 42 pounds.  He will not be able to return to Hope Center for some time.  Please pray for him and his wife, Shirley.  Also, pray for the need for some men and youth to step up and fill the need while Syl is recovering.  (See below.)

Mrs. Pat Gill

As far as I know, the arrangements for Mrs. Pat Gill have not been made yet.  I think out-of-state family will need to travel here before that is done.  I will post the arrangements when they are available.

Young at Heart

This group’s monthly meeting will begin at 10:30 in the morning in the Fellowship Hall of New Zion Baptist Church.  Mrs. Yvonne Curtis will share sacred music with us.  Then, there will be a pot-luck meal.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Third Thursday

We will meet at our cabin Thursday at 6:30 for fellowship, a meal, a devotional, and special music.  Come be blessed.

Friday Morning Bible Study

We will also meet at the cabin.  Come for 10:00 or come earlier.  After our study we will share a salad and dessert lunch.  We would be happy to have guests with us.

Hope  Center Needs Men!

Men are needed to “fill the shoes” of Sylvester Humphrey while he continues to recovery from his surgery.  Please read the post from Saturday Evening.  I am coordinating this, so please gather a group of men from your church and volunteer today.  Syl “wore several hats’!  I’m not asking anyone to give as much time as he did, just a day or portion of a day at a time.  Please contact me for more information.  Help is needed Tuesday-Friday, especially on two Tuesdays and three Fridays of the month.

I was blessed to have a call from one church immediately after I posted the need last night.  I hope to hear from other churches today.  Remember, Hope Ministry is an associational ministry, not just the responsibility of a few people.  Men, please step up to meet the need.

CORRECTION

Opportunities this Week

  • Tuesday – Young at Heart meets at New Zion Baptist Church at 10:30.  Mrs. Yvonne Curtis will be singing.  You do not have to be a member at NZBC to attend.  Lunch follows the singing.
  • Thursday – Third Thursday begins at 6:30 at the cabin.  Please feel free to come.
  • Friday – Bible study at 10 A.M. at our cabin in the country.  We will have a salad and dessert lunch when we complete our study.

Sylvester Humphrey is better, but has a long way to go to be considered “recovered”. Please continue to pray for them.

He is doing better, but still no appetite. Syl has lost 42 pounds. He gained 1 pound back in the last couple of days. I have been like a short order cook trying to make sure he will eat. He doesn’t like Ensure or any of the therapeutic drinks. I make him protein drinks when he will drink them and made some protein bars, which he likes. Just have to make sure what he eats is quality food.
We really need some male volunteers to help out in the back, etc. If you know of any that can help, it will be appreciated. Syl will be down for quite a while.
The needs are:
The first, second and third Fridays from 9-1 for food distribution. The first and second Tuesday mornings before the first and second Friday distribution. On those Tuesdays we receive the food and need to put it away. We also need men to keep the grass mowed and to take bags of clothes to the storage and to Hammond to St Vincent DePaul. We need men to take turns picking up boxes at Walmart for food distribution.
I will be compiling a list for each week to be sure we have men there to meet the need.  If you are willing to volunteer, please contact me.  Hope Center has met so many needs in the months it has been open.  Let’s redouble our efforts to make a difference through Hope Center.  Men, we need you!

Please continue to pray for Sylvester Humphry.  He is in St. Tammany and very sick.  I know your prayers will be greatly appreciated.  As you are praying for him, thank God for his vision and dedication to the Hope Center.  Without him, Hope Center would not exist.  Pray for those who are “stepping up” to try to fill the shoes of Sylvester and Shirley while they are not able to be there.

I was blessed to see Mr. James W. Frazier and Miss Shira Easley yesterday.  They have come a long way since their surgeries.  Even though they have not been released by their doctors yet, they both are in God’s house and very thankful to be there.

Someone special to pray for today – Mrs. Hazel Smith

Saturday

                        LORD, you establish peace for us;

all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

My aunt’s husband in Texas, John Orr, got a good report on the mass in his bladder.  He will not need any additional treatment to follow up on the surgery that has already been done.

Joe Easley of the New Zion community is having kidney problems.  Please pray for this man and his family.  The last few years have been very difficult for them.

Doug Toney (Written by his wife, Sandy)

FRIDAY May 8, 2015

Doug is still not very alert. Vitals are fairly stable with an occasional episode of high Blood pressure or high heart rate. They did an ultrasound of abdomen and found his gall bladder inflamed with sludge. Waiting to talk to the surgeon. Also, a wound care nurse will come today to check his incision. Brooklyn and I will go check out two long term acute care centers tomorrow. Please continue to pray for his healing. Also, please pray for our friends- Jeanne Terrell and Paul Hancock who are struggling with major health issues, too.

Thanks for praying for my unspoken request yesterday.  Surgery went well.  The man should be able to come home today.

Women’s Ministry

    •  We had a good study of the “Woman at the Well”, a great salad/dessert lunch, and wonderful fellowship.
    • Six ladies joined us for the first time.

    • A few ladies have been working on tote bags for each box we plan to pack in October.  They have about 200 made so far.  I appreciate their diligence.
    • If you have not picked up a “paper bag” from the table across from the kitch in the fellowship hall, please select one and purchase the items listed on it.  We are making good progress.  Sunday, I looked at the items purchased so far.  I’m so thankful to those of you who have put your hearts, efforts, and money into this project that will take the love of Jesus to little children around the world.

    • Plan to join us on the 17th to make our plans for the June meeting.
    • We will meet in my Sunday School classroom at 3 P.M.

Sunday

 Remember this:

Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way

will save him from death

and cover over a multitude of sins.

~James 5:20~

(As I prepared my Sunday School lesson for today, I found a note at the end that encouraged us to invited people to Sunday School next Sunday to learn of the resurrection and its impact on our future.  That certainly is  good idea.  This morning, hears a verse to give us more encouragement to do so.)
