Dee Dee Stokes Gill of Amite had a stroke Christmas Day. She’s having more tests and hopefully going home today. Let’s pray she fully recovers from the paralysis.

Buddy Morris seems to be doing well while on a break from treatment. He goes to Ochsner in New Orleans for a scan on January 2nd. Pray for the family as they anxiously await that day.

Calvin Leslie McNabb passed away on December 26, 2018 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, surrounded by his family. Calvin was born January 23, 1961 in Brandon, Mississippi to Gene and Sara McNabb. He was a pipeliner by trade. His true love was nature. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but also enjoyed watching animals as his health no longer allowed him to hunt and fish. Calvin is survived by three sons, Eric Ballard, Colby McNabb and wife, Stormie, and Tyler McNabb; a grandson, Xavier Ballard; parents, Gene and Sara McNabb; three brothers, Bryan McNabb and wife Beverly, Waylon McNabb and John McNabb; sister, Gail Domingue and husband, Ed, and numerous extended family. August 28, 1951 – December 26, 2018

Lida went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the young age of 67. She was a dedicated member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Lida was very passionate about her career at the Post Office and loved every minute of work. She cherished the time she had caring for her family and adored being a caregiver for them. Lida was a very loving wife, mother, and sister who is already deeply missed by all who loved her.
Lida leaves behind her adoring husband of 35 years, Warren L. Coates; stepson, Chad Coates and wife Gayla Coates; sisters, Mary Lindsey Strickland, and Margie Lindsey Lascaro and husband Anthony; sister-in-law, Barbara Arbie Lindsey; brothers-in-law, Lolan Coates and wife Caroline, and Herman Coates; brothers, John Lindsey, and Tommy Lindsey and wife Becky; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

May 31, 1950 – December 26, 2018

DAVID LEO MILLER, AGE 68

and a resident of Mount Hermon died Wednesday evening December 26, 2018 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a 1968 graduate of Mt. Hermon High School where he played baseball and basketball for the Yellow Jackets. David was awarded Mister M.H. S. and also voted Most Courteous by his classmates. He later attended Sullivan Vocational School and worked for many years at Magee Feed, Inc. in Franklinton. He was a former member of the Louisiana Army National Guard. David was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he often sang music specials during services. He always loved music as well as hunting and the outdoors. David often grew tomatoes and planted a small garden in earlier years. He was always a loving husband, father and grandfather that devoted much of his time to care for his beloved family.

Pete Gill had his first chemotherapy treatment yesterday afternoon. He will be having treatments five days a week for three and a half weeks. Pete sends his thanks to those who are praying for him.

Pray for Dee Dee Stokes Gill of Amite who had a stroke Christmas Day. Dee Dee is hospitalized in North Oaks. She has shown some improvement since Tuesday.

I have an unspoken request for a man who had a procedure yesterday in Baton Rouge and is hospitalized overnight.

Thank-you for praying for Fannie Seal as she had knee replacement surgery Monday. She is up and walking.

Nancy Pledger is thankful for your prayers for her family at the time of her sister’s death this past week. Please continue to pray for them today and in the days to come.

Say special prayers for those who are hospitalized during this holiday week and for their caregivers as they balance home and hospital environments this week.

Pete Gill’s procedure went well. Now, treatment will begin. Pray for this family during this Chirstmas Day.

Another Spring Creek family is in the hospital. Jimmy Rufus Williams may get to come home today. I know the family will celebrate being at home together and the birth of Jesus long ago.

David found some Christmas spirit in the good news he received yesterday and was able to attend the service at FBC, last night. It was beautiful from the beginning to the end. I know there were other special services last night. I hope you were able to attend one. We are extra thankful not to be going to Baton Rouge for a unit of blood today.

Mary Jo Gauthreaux Childress

February 5, 1950 – December 23, 2018

Mary Jo Gauthreaux Childress, 68, of Laurel passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018, and
is in the arms of Jesus after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mrs. Childress was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a
member of First Baptist Church of Laurel where she served as a Sunday School teacher and
Bible Drill leader for many years. She adored children and was a teacher for Jones County
School District’s Star Reach Program.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph E. Gauthreaux of Biloxi, and her grandparents
John and Mary Gates of Pensacola, FL, and Joseph and Theresa Gauthreaux of Biloxi.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Childress of Laurel; her two daughters, Molly
(Carson) Humphries of Richardson, TX, and Mary Katherine “Katie” Childress of New York, NY;
her mother, Mary Helena (Gates) Gauthreaux of Biloxi; her sister Nancy (Jim) Pledger of
Natchitoches, LA; and four grandchildren, Hannah, Lydi Kate, Wiley, and Ellis Humphries.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel on Wednesday,

Nancy Pledger’s sister passed away after having had dementia for more than sixteen years. Nancy’s brother-in-law faithfully cared for his wife every day.

My friends in Indonesia are fine. The tsunami did not cause then any concern. Pray for the families who have lost loved ones though.

Pray for my college friend, Fannie Seal. She is having knee replacement surgery today.

FBC, Kentwood, like many other area churches will have a candlelight service this evening at 6 P.M. You are invited to attend and bring your company with you.

James “Jimmy” C Tolar

James Carol Tolar, (Jimmy), 80, of Kentwood, LA, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Hammond.

He was born February 27, 1938 in Hathorn, MS. He was the son of Marvin and Charlene Rogers Tolar.

He was a proud graduate of Kentwood High School and LSU School of Banking. He was a retired Senior Vice President at First Guaranty Bank (44 years), Christmas tree farmer, a member of the Kentwood Rotary Club (43 years) and deacon at First Baptist Church of Kentwood, (50 years). ‘Daddy Jim’ loved camping and fishing, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family and serving the Lord.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Naomi Davidson Tolar of Kentwood; one sister, Mary Frances Graham (Arlon) of Houston TX; one daughter, Audrey Elaine Doucette (Bob) of Richmond KY; three sons, Russ Tolar (Laura) of Kentwood, Jeff Tolar (Amy) of Crestview FL, and Tom Tolar (Stacey) of Kentwood. eight grandchildren, Danielle Mills (Ben), Brandon Doucette, Tyler Carter, Dawson Tolar, Micah Tolar, Autumn Tolar, Seth Tolar and Darbi Tolar; one great- grandchild, Liam Herrel and a host of family and friends.

Jimmy William‘s surgery went well. He had five by-passes. Linda is thankful for your prayers during seven hours of surgery.

Gayle Owens made it home from her second round of hospital time following her heart attack. She will be making some diet changes. Pray she does well with that.

Bonnie Jean Bridges McMillan

July 25, 1934 – December 19, 2018

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was born July 25, 1934 in St. Helena Parish and was 84 years of age. She accepted Christ and joined New Zion Baptist Church at the age of 12, where she has been a lifelong member. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as the regent of the Halimah Chapter and as the State Corresponding Secretary under the Cook Administration. She was a longtime member of the St. Helena Parish Democratic Committee. She was a board member of the St. Helena Parish Council on Aging. She was the 14th child of Wilson William Bridges and Cassie Bridges Bridges. First, let me apologize for thinking it was Wednesday yesterday. Sometimes, in retirement, weekdays all run together. I think the benefit from getting my days wrong is that you prayed for Jimmy and Linda Williams yesterday and will get another chance to do so today.

Debbie Wilkinson got another report from MD Anderson. Things are about the same.

David saw his hematologist yesterday. His report continues to be about the same too. His labs don’t change very much. His injection of Procrit increased to 40,000 units. The doctor is slowly trying to locate the perfect dosage for David. The blood level dropped from 9.4 to 8.5, but is still high enough to not get another unit of blood. We will get back on our Monday routine by going for labs and Procrit on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. David was blessed with a fruit/candy basket Saturday and carolers last night. MDS has not taken the holiday off our schedule, only added to it.

Bryan and Rita Tate will be coming home Friday so they can spend the holidays with their family.

Ruby Pearl Didone Steel Rosamond

January 11, 1949 – December 16, 2018

Pearl, age 69, born on January 11, 1949 departed from this world on the night of December 16, 2018 leaving pain and suffering behind, transitioning to her Heavenly home to be met by Jesus, family and friends. Pearl spent most of her life working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. When not working, she was spending time with family and friends.
