Saturday

But he said to me,

“My grace is sufficient for you,

for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly

about my weaknesses,

so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

That is why, for Christ’s sake,

I delight in weaknesses,

in insults,

in hardships,

in persecutions,

in difficulties.

For when I am weak, then I am strong

There are so many people with broken bodies and troubled hearts.

Don’t let this keep you focused on the negative.

God can and will work through any situation as only He can.

Georgia Barnette Offering for Louisiana

The President’s 2020 Commission challenged Louisiana Baptists to start 300 new churches by 2020. From 2010 through July 2015, 112 churches have been planted.

  • In 2014, Louisiana church plants recorded 435 baptisms, and 135 baptisms have been reported through mid-2015.
  • Last year alone, more than 1,800 professions of faith (1,857) were reported by the 112 new church plants. Through July 2015, 555 people have professed their faith in Christ!
  • Of the 70 church plants currently receiving supplement through the Georgia Barnette State Mission Offering, 15 of those are Hispanic church plants. The Hispanic population is the fastest growing language group in our state.
  • Church planters employ many methods to connect with their community, including sports camps, block parties, lunch bags for homeless, door-to- door canvassing, prayer walking and cold water stations at local festivals. One new church plant held a music camp where 55 people attended the camp and saw 4 professions of faith.
  • Volunteer mission teams assist new church plants by leading VBS, Backyard Bible Clubs, door-to-door contacts, prayer walking, construction
and repair (both at the church’s meeting site and in community homes). The goal is to connect with the community, point people to Christ and to the new church plant.

Thursday

“This poor man cried,

and the Lord heard him.”

~Psalm 34:6a, HCSB~

Ora Lee Wilson called to ask that we pray for her sister, Juanita Booty, who had a test that developed complications Tuesday.  Juanita required surgery and four units of blood. Her health has not been good, so this is a major problem for her.  Please pray.

Jeanna Lee-Newton is in Oschner  on O’neil,  room 547.  Please pray for her and her family.

Please continue to pray for Ken Roberts and his family.  Carol Jean Conerly said he was taken back to Tulane Hospital in New Orleans.  These last few weeks have been difficult.  God has answered many prayers for Ken during this time.  More prayers are needed.  As you pray for Ken, please pray for the family.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher (3 updates) needs our prayers more than ever.

  • Flo Hatcher has a broken shoulder and no idea how it happened. Waiting to be admitted — just can’t get enough of this place. Prayers please and thank you. David went to see one of his doctors yesterday.  We learned he will have several more procedures to try to keep him healthy.  I’ll let you know he he has another ablation – on the left side of his heart this time.  That is the biggest procedure that we foresee at this time.
  • Update to my last post about my moms shoulder- just spoke with her doctor. It’s a new tumor in the bone that cracked it. Admitting her to a room to do X-rays and MRI for more information before determining what kind of surgery is needed if she even decides to do surgery. She’s got IV of pain meds right now so she’s snoozing like a cat in the sun
  • Apparently being sick and unhealthy is a growing trend– my mom Flo Hatcher may have to spend the night in this ER room because the hospital is full. I am not believing this. Please pray she gets a room tonight. I cannot leave her in this bootleg room and it’s freezing cold down here and noisy.

Pray for the Shaw family on this very difficult day and in the days to come.

Prayer meeting last night was one of my all-time favorite prayer meeting.  The topic being discussed, prayer and turning from the devil, led to sharing that  touched our hearts. The old devil wants to keep us away from God.  Testimonies last night told of victories over the devil.

Georgia Barnette Offering for Louisiana Missions – Fast Facts, Part 1

Your Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering is busy year-round making a difference in the lives of people and churches across the state.

One half of Louisiana’s population is unchurched or lost. Our challenge from Jesus is to “go” and “be witnesses” to those who do not have a relationship with Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8).

  • “Victory in Jesus”

Friday, after Bible study, a number of ladies will work to make the flat Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes into boxes that are shaped like regular shoeboxes.  We hope to get a number of them ready for packing.  Some men will be joining us at 1:00.  Please feel free to join us.  We have work to do!  How blessed we are to be able to participate in sending gifts and “Jesus” to boys and girls around the world.

Operation Christmas Child Needs for Our Shoeboxes

  • Toothbrushes (104)
  • Hair brushes (58 for boys & 60 for girls)
  • Bandanas (29)
  • Crayons (26)
  • Pencil sharpeners (37)
  • Hat (30 for boys & 19 for girls)
  • $1.00 Calculators (38)

If you want, you can bring money and someone else will do the shopping for you.

If you plan to go shopping, please let me know what you will be looking for so I can keep this list updated.  You can bring your items any time you go to the church and leave them in the hallway across from the kitchen.

I’ll try to set the Christmas tree up for Sunday.  Get a/some ornaments from the tree to show what you will be shopping for.

The packing party will be Saturday, October 24, one month from today!

Picture all those happy children who will get packages!  Be a part of this mission project!

Thank you for reading and praying.  It’s always good to know so many of you join me each day.  Thank-you for doing so.

Dan Turner Update

First, let me apologize for not making another entry until today. I had six days with headaches and nausea since I was discharged, Saturday afternoon (9/12). My surgery went well. I think it lasted approximately 2-3 hours, but I was asleep and not paying attention to the time.
My main issue after surgery was pain at my abdominal surgical site, where the pump was placed. The pain was controlled with IV Morphine and oral Lortab. Although I also had a surgical incision on my back, I didn’t really notice any pain from that site. Regardless of the pain, I did notice that the pump was relieving the spasticity of my left leg and arm. For that, I was thankful.
The headaches and nausea lasted for 6 days after surgery and was likely due to a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak at the point of insertion of the tubing that delivers the medicine to my intrathecal space. Anyway, that resolved on its own (thankfully). If it wasn’t for the headaches and nausea, the recovery would have been a piece of cake, since the surgical pain in my abdomen only lasted one day. So here I am, 11 days after surgery, and ready for the next step in the process.
Tomorrow, I will begin the process of finding my “magic dose”. I’ve had minimal return of the spasticity in my left hand and left leg, which warrants an increase in the Baclofen pump dose. This is done electronically using a device that will communicate with my ITB pump. It’s called an “interrogator”.
Using the same equipment that was used during my trial to obtain objective data, we will try to find the dose that duplicates my trial results. I will update you with results in a few days. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

Shaw Service

I received a message that I was given incorrect information.  The wake for Lance Shaw will begin at nine, not eight.

Flo Hatcher

With Flo Hatcher at radiation today. She has 3 more radiation treatments then she starts chemo again. She had visitors from kentwood today and she’s in good spirits, but she’s in pain and can’t use her left arm at all– we are not sure what’s going on with that, but she has a doctor appointment to see about it. We had a surprise visit from our beloved Eric Letulier yesterday– he took care of my dad for many many years and became part of our family so seeing him was a real treat for us! On another note, I have realized that I am out of practice maneuvering a Wheelchair since my daddy died. I’m terrible and hit everything! Thank you for your prayers again! We really appreciate each and every one!

. . .

Flo Hatcher is getting an X-ray. The check in girl just asked if this is accident related– lady I sure wish it was an accident or anything but cancer. We will have results tomorrow.

Jeanna Lee-Newton, daughter of Ricky and Brenda Russell, is hospitalized with pneumonia.  Please pray for her.

  • Encourage members to ask God how they can support missions around the state, nation, and world—including this year’s Georgia Barnette emphasis.
  • Be generous givers
  • Share the 2015 Georgia Barnette goal and promote the offering as an opportunity for every member to give something toward a larger challenge.
  • Be active missionaries
  • Urge members to intentionally fulfill God’s mission in the “ordinary” events of life, as well as through planned activities.

Samaritan’s Purse

  • Refugees are arriving by boat to the Greek island of Lesbos, where Samaritan’s Purse staff are stationed to help. We will be assessing medical needs as they disembark and transporting those with serious injuries to medical centers for care. Pray for these vulnerable people as many have lost their lives during the dangerous journey. Visit ►http://bit.ly/1j3tfQd to see more about the situation and how you can help.
  • Salma, a refugee passing through Croatia where we distributed food and clothing, cried when talking about how difficult it is to have to beg for necessities. Her husband is a blacksmith, and she is a nurse. They aren’t used to this type of lifestyle. She said, “If things got better [we’d go back home], but we know in a hundred years it won’t get better. How could it be fixed after all this damage and destruction?”
  • REFUGEE CRISIS UPDATE: Over the next couple of days, we will distribute about 2,000 backpacks to refugee women and children in Gevgelija, Macedonia. The children’s packs will include a rain poncho, blanket, towel, toothpaste and toothbrush, hygienic wipes, granola bars, cap, sweets, and a soft toy. The packs for women will include a poncho, blanket, towel, bar of soap, hygienic wipes, feminine hygiene products, diapers, granola bars and infant biscuits. Praise God for our supporters whose monetary donations helped purchase these supplies in Europe.Tala (11) and Tima (9), from Syria, are two of the children who received backpacks filled with necessities and comfort items. Our staff members distributed 400 backpacks today and we will continue to give them to women and children coming through this checkpoint on the Macedonia/Serbia border. Next Week

  • Tuesday – “Young” Ladies Birthday Party
  • Friday – Bible Study followed by preparing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child

If you can help, please come to the fellowship hall at 12:45.  We would appreciate all the help we can get as we get ready for our packing party.  Friday, we will be folding the flat boxes into the proper size and shape and applying labels.  Then, the boxes will be stored until the night of the packing party.

We will need a number of boxes to hold the shoeboxes.  The size we need is that of the boxes that hold packs of paper towels or bathroom tissue (larger than copy paper boxes and smaller than refrigerator boxes).

Thank-you!

Ten ladies helped sort and inventory the items turning in for Operation Christmas Child yesterday.  We got the job done and are so please to know the items we will need to focus on getting in the next few weeks.  I’ll have that list for you real soon.

Yesterday’s devotional about 2 A.M. friends fit perfectly into the Bible study lesson yesterday!  I love the way God’s timing is always right.

Update on Ken (Written by Ginger Simmons)

Many have ask
Not much has been posted because right now it’s baby steps to get his strength back. Ken has been through so much in such a short time. He can be very impatience (like most men) and very stubborn (duh)!! These are actually good signs. Biggest thing he wants to go home and that is what they are trying to get him ready for. Please continue to pray not only for Ken and his healing and recovery but for his caregivers. I’m speaking from experience thats not an easy job even if it’s your loved ones. There were times I wanted to take a pillow to Wendell’s doped up head!!
Thx again for all the love and support yall have shown Ken and especially your continued prayers.

Johnnie “Lil Man” Santangello ( Shared by his sister)

Lil Man’s neuro-oncologist from Arizona located a former resident of Barrow’s, who is now a neurosurgeon in New Orleans, to adjust his shunts tomorrow morning. We are praying that the adjustment will improve his symptoms. Thank you all for the post helping us locate a surgeon. Our family greatly appreciated all the help and prayers.
I have to share with you all,
I spent today with him, cooked some of his favorite foods and I must say he is the funniest person I know. It made my heart full to hear him laugh and joke with us. I never hear this kid complain or pout even after all he has been through. I am so humbled to be his sister.

Flo Hatcher (Shared by daughter, Julee)

Today’s update on my mom: she’s being released from the hospital tomorrow! Going home!! Whoo hoo!!
Yesterday she told me “Dont make me eat chicken– YUCK” and today she asked “where can we get some fried chicken?” I’m a little confused now, but she ate that chicken and mashed potatoes like she hadn’t eaten in months!! She’s going to have a sweet lady from a home health agency helping her a few days a week– pray for her!!!

Third Thursday

Our group meeting was  very good last night.  We didn’t have any first time people, but we did have people from a number of churches ( Kentwood, Spring Creek, Line Creek, Osyka, New Zion, Roseland, and Greensburg.  I’m sharing this to say that the love for God and others is the factor that unites us.  What a blessing that is!  The music was provided by Mr. Halon Toney, Kim Chadwick, and Bubba Roberts.  If you would like to come some time, just come at 6:30 P.M. on the third Thursday of any month.

Enlarge your 2 A.M. group!  Our love for God should make the group that we respond to limitless.

“I am the vine, you are the branches.

He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit;

for without Me you can do nothing.”

~John 15:5, NKJV~

Dan Turner

Dan had his surgery to help relieve pain.  Once he get’s past the pain of surgery, it seems he will feel lots better.  Thanks for your continued prayers for Dan.

Bubba Roberts called me yesterday morning for information and last night to give me an update.  He made a trip to New Orleans yesterday to visit these two who are hospitalized about two blocks apart.

  1. Ken Roberts – Bubba’s cousin – recovering from the last surgery
  2. Logan McGregor – Bubba’s former student – slowly improving from surgery this week
