We’ve been praying for Cheryl Wilson as she begins chemo Wednesday.  She celebrated by attending her home church in McComb and singing for the Lord.  Keep praying,

I ask for prayers for David’s nephew, Shaun Alford, who lives in Baton Rouge and works for Exxon.  Shaun, who is about 40, will be having back surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, in Baton Rouge.

 

 

 

The quarterly Two Rivers WMU will meet a week from today at FBC, Kentwood to learn about mission opportunities.   There will be a leadership meeting at 9:00, the meeting at 10:00, and a covered dish meal to finish the morning.  I hope you will attend.

A number of “shoeboxes” will be filled at FBC, Kentwood this morning.  Come when you can.  We will be working in the basement.

 

 

As a part of class last night, the Youth on Mission class learned about storying.   They learned how to share their first passage from Luke 5, the story of the paralyzed man who was lowered through a roof by four friends to the feet of Jesus where he had his sins forgiven and left walking.  I’m sure he had a story to tell about his healing!

I read that many churches use this as a closing hymn.  I can see how that would work out well.

(This is the Scripture my sister shared with me the day of David’s bone marrow surgery this week.)

 

 

 

Jimmy Tolar has made good improvement while in rehab.  The family is hoping he will be able to come home soon.  Please continue to pray for the Tolar family.

 

 

Every report I received about the senior adult revival was good.  I’m sorry we were not able to attend this year.  I hope many of you were able to attend.

 

 

The backpacks packed in Youth on Mission have arrived in Appalachia.  The class was able to study the area and the need for help too.  Thanks to those who are there making delivery of items for the people there.  I don’t know who receives the biggest blessing – the ones who donated items, the ones who delivered the items, or the ones who received the items.  I think it was a win, win, win situation!  Let’s all plan to help again next year in some way.

 

 

Friday, seventeen OCC shoeboxes were packed.  If you paid to ship two, three, or five boxes, you boxes are ready for shipment.  This week, those who paid shipping on ten or eleven boxes will have their boxes packed.  If you would like to help with the packing, please let me know this morning at church.  I get excited to see all the red and green boxes.  Some of you have recently turned in boxes.  I’ll try to get a new count of completed boxes this week.

This morning I would like to add the name of Toni Holland of Greensburg.  Toni has had surgery for a newly diagnosed problem.  Pray for this energetic, young lady with a lovely, caring personality.

 

 

 

Pray for an unnamed young man who is struggling with some health issues.

 

 

 

With the help of one of my young friends, seventeen shoeboxes were packed yesterday afternoon.  These are for some of you who paid shipping costs.    I have more to pack Monday.  I’m so thankful for those of you who helped make/purchase the items used in the boxes. Those mission project days are paying off in a big way!  What a blessing you are to lots of children around the world!

 

 

To the “Youth on Mission” who helped pack the backpacks last Sunday, the boxes are now in the Appalachians and will soon be in the hands of some young people who will really be able to use the items the backpacks.  Thanks for being a part of a great ministry.

Pray for Adrian Phillips as he has another port, the third one, put in so the can have dialysis.  He and Lauree will be appreciative of your prayers.

 

 

 

 

Spephanie Grice’s mom, Cheryl Wilson, learned yesterday that she has a very treatable type of cancer.  Next week, she will begin treatment, one day a week every third  week for six months.  The family seeks your continued prayers.

 

 

 

 

The associational WMU will meet at FBC, Kentwood on Monday, October 15th.  Please be praying for the meeting and planning to be in attendance that day.  A potluck lunch will follow the meeting.

Mr. Jimmy Tolar‘s last couple of weeks has been described as a “roller coaster ride”.  Most families have been on that “ride” with one or more family members and can understand what it is like.  Please continue to pray for the whole family.

 

We visited Mrs. Theople Hurst Saturday.  She is housebound for a couple of weeks.  Pray for her and her family as they show their love one for another.

Mrs. Bessie Broom Hayden has had her foot removed.  She’s got spunk and has already begun to plan on how she will be walking again soon.  Keep praying for her and watching for her return to church.

 

 

Wednesday is the day students are encouraged to “Bring your Bible to School”.  Let’s keep Christ in our schools!

 

 

We live in a troubled world.  Our Christians values are not seen in “the world”, but we should cling to them tightly.  We each need to cling to what we know to be right and the one who paid it all for us.

Today, I would like to ask for continued prayer for Jimmy Tolar, Theople Hurst, Bessie Hayden, Phillip Strickland, Linda Callihan, Buddy Morris, Buddy Waller, Brian Tate, and Wilma Smith.

 

 

This morning Pine Ridge United Methodist Church will serve breakfast at 8:00.  The breakfast gives us an opportunity to contribute to a local family with a need.  The ladies of the church carefully select a family each month.  The breakfast is delicious.  The opportunity to help meet a need is a good ministry in our area.

 

 

Tuesday, the “young” ladies of FBC,K will gather to honor our members who have had birthdays during the month.  The ladies being honored at The Cafe Tuesday at 11:00 are Yvonne Birch, Ann Smith, Jan Yarborough, Mary Miller,  Glenda Schilling, and Betty Simpson.  The lunch is dutch treat.  The birthday cake is always delicious.

LANE ALLEN GOTTSCHALCK

Lane Allen Gottschalck, age 3 of Hammond, Louisiana, gained his wings on Thursday afternoon, September 13, 2018 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by family and friends at his passing in New Orleans at Children’s Hospital. He was born on Friday, May 8, 2015, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Lane was deeply loved by his parents, Chester and Whitney Rousseau Gottschalck; sister, Breanna Gottschalck, brother, Trevor Gottschalck; aunts and uncles, Randi Rousseau and Jonathan Serigne, Matthew Rousseau, Clay and Melanie Gottschalck, Craig and Rhonda Gottschalck; maternal grandparents, Cheryl Rousseau James and Darrell Rousseau;and paternal grandparents, Billy and Diane Gottschalck; many great-aunts, great-uncles,cousins, and friends.

Lane is preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Keever James and Edith James McLendon and Andrew and Ruby Rousseau; paternal great grandparents, Theodore and Mearl Cooper and Elmer and Hermine Gottschalck.

Lane was a sweet little boy who brought joy and happiness to every life he touched. Every day he was helping his mom and dad with the farm animals while riding on the ATV.  He loved listening to music, watching and listening to YouTube and playing video games with his brother Trevor.  Some evenings you could find Lane riding a sheep or a calf at the rodeo arena while under the watchful eye of his parents.

Lane enjoyed the beach with his family and watching the ocean waves lap over his feet. He fought many battles in his short life and was a true fighter until the very end. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation for Lane will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and continue Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Harry McKneely& Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Funeral Service celebrating Lane’s life will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.Interment will follow at Stevens Cemetery in Tickfaw, Louisiana.

Guy R. Catalano

July 14, 1962 – September 16, 2018

A resident of Amite passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was born July 14, 1962 in Independence and was 56 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Frickey Catalano; sons, Branden Lee Catalano and Michael Scott Catalano; step-children, Lalonnie Marie Hines and husband, Thomas, Christy Gaudet, Keith Anthony “Bubba” Gaudet, Jr. and wife, Gretchen; 11 grandchildren, Isaiah Catalano, Michael Gaven Catalano, Jase Catalano, Sage Mathis Hines, Safia Elise Hines, Austin Doyle, Ethan Doyle, Aodhan Pope, Ethan Gaudet, Emma Gaudet, and Landon Gaudet; great-granddaughter, Violet Doyle; 3 sisters, Congetta Wheeler and husband, Earl, Mary Anne Hadley, and Kathleen Anthony; brother, Brian Keith Catalano. Preceded in death by parents, Guy and Bernice Catalano; and a sister, Angela Hawkins. I wonder what opportunities each of us will have today to share our faith.  It may not be videoed for public viewing, but I’m sure that together we can impact our area for the Lord.  Some of these encounters will be planned, but some will happen spontaneously.  Either way, thank you for sharing your faith today.

Thanks to all who came to the fellowship hall and worked to complete more projects for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  That was our last Saturday workday for 2018.

 

 

 

Mr. Jimmy Tolar has improved.   He is alert and talking,  Please keep him in your prayers.

ASK God to continue his great work at Philadelphia at Horseshoe Drive.

ASK God to use the funds given through the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering to revitalize other churches that are struggling across our state.

“Can these dry bones live?” This was the question God asked Ezekiel over 2,500 years ago. Ezekiel replied, “Sovereign Lord, only you know.” God has a passionate desire to breathe life into places where His Spirit moved mightily in past years.

Imagine a church so packed in the ‘70s that, in order to accommodate the crowds, chairs had to be placed in the aisles. This was Horseshoe Drive Baptist Church in the ‘70s. This church knew how to think big.

This didn’t last though. As the years went by, Horseshoe experienced a steady decline. But a small group of members, grieved by the state of their church, surrendered to do whatever it would take to see God breathe life into a once thriving faith community.

With the leadership of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Deville and some funds provided by the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering, Horseshoe Drive is once again growing and impacting their community. New visitors are showing up at their doors and the waters of the baptistry are stirring.

These faithful members asked, “Can these dry bones live again?” God answered with a resounding, “YES.” What does God wa

nt to resurrect in your life and church? Remember, it’s not over when God is in it.
