Elma Lou Hayden Mulina

(January 18, 1930 – February 21, 2011)

A resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was born January 18, 1930 in Birmingham, AL and was 81 years of age. Survived by 2 daughters, Patricia Mulina, Houston, TX, and Lynette Ivanyisky and her husband, Alan, Albany, son, David Mulina, Fishers, IN, sister, Lelia Cox, Amite, brother, Herbert Hayden and his wife, Amanda, Navasota, TX, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Mary Dykes Hayden, 2 daughters, Imogene Brown and Dianne Moore, son, Larry Wayne Mulina, 3 brothers, Earl Hayden, Aubrey Hayden, and Huey Hayden. A very special thanks to the staff at Ollie Steel Burden Manor for providing our mother with care, compassion and a loving environment for the past 4 years. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 with graveside services immediately following in the Amite Cemetery, Amite. Services conducted by Rev. Don Thursby.

My daddy johnnie smith surgey has went good, and is in recovery room. We are waiting on him to go to his room.thinks to everyone for there prayers.

Roger Pittman will be having cardiac testing on March 4th.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell is still trying to recover from her heart surgery.  She is very sore still.  Please remember her in your prayers.

Jadon’s Story: Hospital Update

I had a horrible day yesterday. I woke up and had about 30 spasms. They still looked different but were still not intense. We went to church and then went back home for the rest of the day. I continued to have them but again they weren’t very intense. I was very fussy yesterday and didn’t nap much. I finally got a good nap around 5pm. When I woke up is when it started. I was having really intense seizures not spasms. They only lasted about 5 seconds at a time but they continued to cluster for over 20 minutes back to back. It scared my mommy and daddy. It’s amazing how long 5 seconds can be. Not to mention we are over an hour away from Childrens. My mommy immediately called the neurologist on call. The on call doctor called our neurologist and they told us to come to the ER. My seizures stopped on the way to the hospital. I did have a few right when we walked in but not many. They started back up around 11:15 pm. They gave me ativan and it helped calm things down. After being in the ER for 5 hours we finally got to our room. I did fine the rest of the night. When I woke up this morning I only had about 12 of the little not intense seizures. So what is the plan? They are going to increase my vimpat and give it through IV today to get it in my system quickly. They are then going to do an EEG tomorrow. They want the ativan to get completely out of my system so we can see what’s going on. The results of the EEG will tell us what to do next. We have discussed 3 different options but we have to wait until after the EEG. I don’t have much good news but the good news is they think that I have some kind of viral infection. My body is covered in a rash. This is good because that is probably what is causing the seizures to get more intense. The neurologist doesn’t think that the pednisolone is what caused the decrease. She thinks it was getting me off the topamax. So we really don’t have any answers today. We have to wait until tomorrow. We are doing much better today. Yesterday scared us pretty bad. I HATE SEIZURES!!!!! I left you a picture of me snuggling with my daddy at the hospital. I love to snuggle. Please pray for me and my family!!!

Tuesday – Obituary Update

Michael W. Edwards was born October 28, 1950 and passed away at 1:47 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington surrounded by his loving family. He was 60, a native of Franklinton and a resident of Kentwood. Michael is survived by wife, Brenda Holden Edwards, Kentwood; daughter, Natasha Tate and husband Dale, Kentwood; step-daughter, Pamela Tarver, Covington; step-son, David Dykes, Amite; 2 grandsons, Brody Dale Tate & Drew Michael Tate; granddaughter, Samantha Ann Tarver; 2 sisters, Nan Welch and husband Johnny, Kentwood & Jackie Stilley and husband Shelton, Kentwood; 2 brothers, Larry Gene Edwards and wife Benda, Kentwood & Joey Edwards, Kentwood; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lewis and Yuvonne Bond Edwards, Sr.; 3 brothers, Donald Earl Edwards, Charles Lewis Edwards, Jr. & Rusty Edwards.

Visitation at McKneely & Vaughn Funeral Home, Amite, on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until Celebration of Life Services at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Monday's Obituaries

Anne Moore Stevens
(January 13, 1922 – February 17, 2011)

Anne M. Stevens died peacefully at Carpenter’s House in Baton Rouge on February 19, 2011. She was born in Algiers, Louisiana on January 13, 1922. She traveled to Amite at 15 for a summer visit and found the love of her life, Rufus Stevens. They married in 1944, and after WWII, lived the rest of their lives there. A retired banker and active in the community, she was fondly called “Miss Anne.” She is survived by one son, Dennis Stevens and wife, Connie, Prairieville, granddaughters Candace Urban and husband Blake of Prairieville, Holly Sanders and husband Aaron of Lake Jackson, TX, and Amanda Green and husband Robby of Katy, TX, a niece, Cordia Ziegler and great-nephew, Brett Ziegler. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren. Anne was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Stevens, parents Roy and Cordia Moore, stepmother Agnes Moore and sister Pearl Colomb. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011. Services conducted by Rev. John Carrigan. Interment Amite Cemetery, Amite, LA.

Pray for Roger Pittman as he sees a doctor in McComb today and makes plans for tests.

Mr. Wenous Goings is still at North Oaks, but his problems has been identified and addressed.  He should be home soon.

Charles Houeye of Roseland has also been in North Oaks and is also doing better.  Pray for him and for his family.

Jadon’s Story: No More Topamax!!!!!

Goodbye topamax. I hope to never see you again. So yes I’m totally off topamax now. I took my last dose yesterday morning. I did so well with the wean we were able to get me off about a week earlier than originally planned. So NO MORE topamax. I’m just a little excited about this. In fact I said Dada for the first time this morning. Amazing!!!! So now what? We wait for our appointment on March 1. We do have a call in to my neurologist. She was out Friday so she will call us back sometime Monday. My seizures are still very little and not very intense. I have my good days and bad, but I’m having more good than bad. Hey what we are considering bad were actually my good days in the past. Only about 50 spasms. We don’t know why I have days that are worse than others but that is pretty common with seizures. My seizures also look different. I’m not falling forward or dropping my head anymore. They look more like when you get a chill. So we are thinking I’m having a different kind of seizures but we are not sure. Talking about seizures. This Friday will make a year since my diagnosis. I just can’t believe its been a year. Oh how our lives have changed in the past year. We have learned to celebrate the little things in life, to love more, to cry more, to be thankful for what we do have, to fight when the doctors don’t give you much to fight for, to trust God more, to pray every second you can, to believe in miracles, and more than anything to have Faith and know that our God is in control. We have met some amazing doctors, therapist, and friends. I have to be honest and say that I do wish I never had to meet these people, but I’m so thankful for each and every one of them. They have helped us get through this past year more than they know. Please take a minute to listen to the song on my profile. The words are just perfect. I posted the lyrics below. Please continue to pray for me. I have come a long way in the past year and I just know things are going to continue to get better for me. Your prayers have helped me so much!!!

Saturday Afternoon

Jack “Boots” Prescott had two knee replacements today.  Surgery went well.  Thank God for the successful surgery and pray for him (and his family) as he recovers.

Hendry Family:  Justin and Dana Hendry seem to have had two or three sick children sick for the last month.  Pray for Dana as she cares for her children and does all the other things a mother of a large family does on a daily basis.

Brister Family:  Pray for Robert and Jill Brister as they care for three sick children.  There seems to be so much still going around.
