175 Years of the International Mission Board

Support Operations Devastated by Civil War

1865

The devastating effects of the U.S. Civil War left missionaries to fend for themselves as the Foreign Mission Board’s administrative functions all but ceased. By the end of the war, the organization was in severe debt — only $1.78 remained in the bank — and Southern Baptists questioned whether their mission efforts could continue.

Prayer Focus

Today, let’s focus on people churches that are struggling, not because of a war, but because of a pandemic (Covid-19). We must remember that the virus has caused lots of meetings, outreach events, and mission activities in area churches to be put on hold for now. Let’s pray that even thought some things have been cancelled, the churches will find ways to alter the events so the work can still be accomplished.
