There will be a new list of five items needed at this time for the “Shoeboxes” on the red charts in the adult classrooms. Take a minute to read what the August needs are. Thanks!
“Shoeboxes” are a way to give gifts, meet needs, and introduce children to God. What a bargain! We are so happy to have this opportunity each year. This year we will be packing boxes for 225 boy ages 10-14 and 225 girls 10-14. This age group is often overlooked as people pack for the younger age groups more. We choose to pack for them because they are often overlooked and because they are at an age when they are old enough to understand and choose salvation.
A resident of Chesbrough, LA, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024. She was born April 1, 1954 and was 70 years of age. Sherry was a Registered Nurse for over 30 years at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, McComb, MS and Riverside Medical Center, Franklinton, LA. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Fortenberry, daughter Renae Laird, and son Jason Fortenberry (Lee Ann), 6 grandchildren, Mattie, Wil, Presley, Hayden, MaKenna, and Leightyn, one brother John Wesley Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Wilma Smith, sister Charlotte Reeves, brother-in-law Claude Reeves, sister-in-law Linda Smith, maternal grandparents, Uyless and Alta McMillan, paternal grandparents, John C. and Edna Smith, father-in-law, H.W. Fortenbeny, and mother-in-law, Melvine Fortenberry. Special thanks to Lee Lee Davis, Sherry Robertson for their care and compassion as well as Chrissy Easley, Rhianna Strong, and Brother Chris Chavers with Hospice of Baton Rouge. Good Morning, my friends. I’m so happy you are back today. Let’s plan to make this Tuesday a good day despite the circumstances the world throws at us. Our God is a good and loves us very dearly. Let’s always remember that.
Today, let’s plan to do a good deed for someone. You get to choose the good deed. Be a blessing to someone today. Before you do a good deed, pray about that person. Then, go into action if God gives you a “green light”.

Operation Christmas Child
Last week, we had a new volunteer worker. Yesterday, David and I gave her the opportunity to help. She loved it and plans to return. That’s what our end of OCC is all about – giving of your time, working with others, and learning about the “Shoebox” process. Our new volunteer is ready to work again.
Each year, we have painted our boxes before adding special decorations. This year, we left off the paint and tried a new process. I’m very happy to report our boxes are ready for folding into a box shape. We will be waiting a while, but will be calling on our men to fold the boxes for that step.
Now, we are finalizing our shopping by purchasing a few more of several items. It is all coming together nicely. We will be doing an inventory in the next few days to determine our final needs.
Back to School Needs
Think carefully about the children and teens you know who might need uniforms or school supplies for the coming year. You might be able to meet that need or turn the name over to someone who can.
August is just ahead.
It is not a cool month, so plan your days accordingly.
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.

Yesterday, at church, we had two men with medical issues that we didn’t expect. Trey Buckley, who had neck surgery, and Leslie McKenzie who had the fall a month or so ago were present. Thank-you, Lord, for allowing them to be back in church with us.
The sad portion of our church yesterday was the boat wreckthat killed two people, one of whom was Chase Sharkey. Lord, please be with the family members during this difficult time. Also, be with the coworkers and many friends Chase and the other victim had. The others who were present on the boat also and the rescuers will also need out prayers.
Also, please add Carol Jean Conerly to your prayer list. She’s doing better and was back at church yesterday.

We not only had a stronger Bro. Darryl back with us, but we had a baptism and a profession of faith yesterday. Thank-you, Lord!

Vacation Bible School
Most churches have had their VBS this summer, but other churches have theirs scheduled for this week. Tangipahoa Baptist Church will be having an evening VBS this week. If this works out for your family, please see that your children are in attendance there this week.

Sammy Tippitt grew up not far from Kentwood. I remember when he started out. God has greatly used him.
In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Pray for people who live their life trying to harm other. This can come in many forms – money hungry people, power hungry people, etc. Let’s pray people come to know God and change their focus to living their lives serving Him.

A resident of Osyka, MS, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 23, 1947 in Magnolia, MS and was 76 years of age. If you did not start reading January 1, that is no problem. Just pick up where we are.
At the associational WMU meeting Saturday, I was able to hear ladies. from other churches talk about their plans and progress for this Shoebox year. It is very encouraging to know others also value this opportunity to have a part in “telling” so many children about Jesus again this year. Jesus, not the material possessions, is the focus of this ministry. I am so blessed to be a part of sharing Jesus in this way every year. The items that go into the box are very helpful and greatly appreciated, but at not the main point. Jesus is the focus. For that, I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity.
Prayer Focus
Use your personal prayer list to pray today. If you do not have a list, today is the perfect day to grab a composition book and to make your own list. I will help by giving you updates and new names to add periodically.

Today, let’s pray for all those who live a lonely life. Some are unable to get out. Some are caregivers who cannot leave their patient. Some don’t have close neighbors or relatives. Some seem not to have close friends. For these and other reasons, they may not be able to get out and be a friend to others. Today, let’s pray for boldness to invite others into their world. May this lead to some happy hours and days. Be aware of these situations and reach out to help others.
