Death: Sylvester Humphrey passed away. Many of you may remember him as the man at the Hope Center when it began. His service will be at Montpelier Saturday. I’ll post his obituary closer to the end of the week.

Sunday school is the best way to learn about God and building a relationship with Him. Don’t miss out today.

Pine Ridge Bible Study – This book, Seamless, has daily assignments. I love how we are asked about our Scripture each day. It helps us know whether or not we are comprehending key information.

Monthly meeting of Women on Mission at 4 P.M.

We will have the monthly program, election of officers, and mission planning for our October project. All ladies are invited..

While we are meeting, school-age girls will meet in their new classroom in the same area. High school age girls have the choice of helping with the younger girls or meeting with the ladies.

If you have not met the leader for all things about children, please take a minute to do so. Her name is Shelly Broussard. She has lots of experience and a young family of her own. We want to invest in the children even more than in the past. Stay tuned for new opportunities for them and for adults to work with them.

OCC Pre-packing Workshop

This annual meeting will be Saturday. Pray for Jackie and Bob Babin as they attend for the first time. Thank them for all the time they put in last year during the collection process. We will begin again on Nov. 18.

Obituary

Bruce Russell Meyer, born March 12, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, passed away on September 16, 2024, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA, after a prolonged illness. He was 76 years old and a longtime resident of Kentwood, LA. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from LSU, where he met his beloved wife, Maggie Allen Meyer, whom he married in 1971. Bruce was the dedicated owner of Allen Bros Feed, a family business he managed after moving from Baton Rouge to Kentwood in 1972.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie; his parents, Rex and Dorothy Swanson Meyer; his wife’s parents, Pierce and Edna Allen; and his best four-legged friend, Buster. He is survived by his daughter, Stacie Meyer Davis, who now manages the family business, and his cherished granddaughter, Kaylee Davis. Also surviving Bruce are his brother, Jim Meyer, and his wife, Margaret, along with his nieces, Carolyn Emory, Heather Sims, Emily Farrah, and Diana Meyer.

Bruce had a passion for shooting pool, but above all, he treasured his time with his granddaughter, Kaylee. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to attend services on Friday, September 20th, at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the religious service at noon, conducted by Beryl Billiot, with interment following in Woodland Cemetery.

Time Change

Due to a 5th Sunday Singing, the Women on Mission and Girls in Action will meet Sunday at 4:00 on September 29, rather than 5:00, in the L- Wing. We will be selecting officers, learning about missions, and discussing our first mission project.

Health Concerns

Charlie Schwartz is a little better each day. Please continue to pray for him. His doctor has told him he will feel better after the third day. He’s ready for that.

Ruby Schwartz is progressing and may get to leave the hospital today.

Mary Varnado‘s surgery will be today, rather than yesterday.

Focus for Today

Today, lets pray for all those who are helping the people who had damage to their homes from Hurricane Frances. These disaster relief people do so much good out of the goodness of their heart and their love for God and other people.. Those God for the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and others who help because God calls them to do so.

Ruby Schwartz’s neck surgery went very well yesterday. Let’s pray for her recovery now.

Charlie Schwartz said he is home. but experiencing more pain than he expected. Pray his knee will be less painful today.

Mrs. Mary Varnado will have surgery at North Oaks today. Please pray for her and Mr. Gary.

Pray for Robert and Ora Lee Wilson as they return to the doctor today. They think they have made improvement since last week.

Today, let’s pray that those at church today who do not have Jesus as their Savior to ask Him to come into their hearts.

Fall Food Roundup for the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe

Today is the last day to bring food or to write a check that will be used to provide food for the children who are residents in the home because the truck will be in Kentwood early in the morning. The biggest need this year is for cleaning supplies for the individual homes, but non-perishable foods can be sent. Since they are organized into smaller individual homes, foor in regular size cans. not gallon size cans, is needed.

If you have not made your purchases, you can write a check today or can provide other items at any time today or at 8 A.M. in the morning. Your money can be turned in with the regular offering or handed to a staff member today. Items you have purchased can be left in the stairwell at the northwest corner of the fellowship hall.

Operation Christmas Child

If you have items or funds for OCC, you can turn then in today. We are double checking our list and making sure we have what we need before we pack the Shoeboxes. We don’t have dates for packing, but we usually pack in October.

Women on Mission and Girls in Action will meet in two weeks. All ladies and school age girls are invited to attend.

The ladies will be electing officers.

Charlie Schwartz‘s surgery has been postponed until tomorrow. Both Robert and Ora Lee Wilson are doing better. Dorothy Wall is breathing better and walking some. Thank you for praying for all of them.
