I read this morning that Mr. John Mabry passed away. He grew up in Roseland, but I never knew him until he was my principal as I taught at Independence High. He was a fine man and a great principal. I also worked with his wife briefly at KHS. She was a fine lady and faithfully took care of her husband during his lengthy illness.

Thankfulness – Day 3 – Helping Hands
Today, I’m thankful for all the helping hands that make my life go smoother. Facing reality, I must admit I can not do everything that is sometimes needed in my life. I’m so thankful for the helping hands that take care of me and my little world. I pray I will be more aware of the ways I can help others and will take the time to do just that. Lord, help me to thank others who help me in any way.
This is the Lord’s Day. Be sure to honor His day!

Survived by his mother, Betty Alford McFerrin; brother, James “Jim” Reginald McFerrin, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly; 2 sisters, Wendy McFerrin Dover and husband, Carey & Miranda McFerrin Spencer and husband, Joe; nephews, Cody McFerrin and Dakota Spencer; nieces, Kayla McFerrin, Casey Spencer, Brittany Dover, Sarah McFerrin, Amber Dover, Zera “Lizzie” McGuff, Avery Spencer and Julieanna McFerrin. I’m so thankful that God use me despite all my weaknesses and “warts”. I have opportunities to be a witness for Him, just like all of you do. He use me to do things like talk, smile, visit, pray, encourage, share, and call. I thank God for these opportunities and pray He will guide me in using what He has given me in ways He would approve of. My opportunities do not speak about me, but Him!

Tomorrow is snack pack and hygiene kit today and we are running very low on travel size shampoo and conditioner. We just added an item to our wish list and hope that you will check it out. If anyone knows where we can get affordable travel size hygiene items in bulk- please let us know.
119- the number of people that have come to our door in a matter of 1 hour and 40 minutes to receive snack packs and hygiene kits. We met many new people this week and hope that we will be able to continue forming and building these relationships.

A resident of Kentwood, died at 11:58 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was born December 28, 1947 in Puttman, CT and was 65 years of age. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and a member of First Baptist Church in Kentwood. Survived by companion, Linda Cogan; 2 daughters, Lynette Cogan Wall and Denise Cogan-Blackmon; 1 son, Rusty Cogan; 7 grandchildren, Johnathan, Kelsey and Kolby Wall, Brayden, Emily and Caitlynn Blackmon and Alexa Cogan; 2 great grandchildren, Dayston and Aiden Wall; 1 sister, Candy Cogan and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Joyce Cogan and brother, Robert Cogan. A private family service will be held at a later date. McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, in charge of arrangements.
Today, the people of the Kentwood area hear of the death of another local. Dennis Cogan passed away. Please be in pray for his family and his friends.

Harold R. Blades Sr.
“Out of the past I see your eyes, their twinkle mixed with blue; And so this day I think of things kept in my heart for you.” Harold was born April 12, 1934 in Kentwood, LA to William Oscar Blades and Ellen Rimes Blades. He drifted into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at OLOL Hospital with loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine Doucet Blades; daughter Cindy Blades Cody and husband Michael; sons Mitchel Anthony Blades, Gregory Wayne Blades and wife Jo Ann Blades, and Harold R. Blades, Jr.; grandchildren Kenneth Cody, Sarah Marie Ellen Cody, Rebecca Lane Cody, Aaron Michael Blades, Hunter Austin Blades, Krystal Blades, and Heaven L. Blades; great-grandchildren Myrikel Blades, Tristin Cummings, Piper Witt, and Jamie Carson; sisters Audrey B. and husband Pete Williams, and Linda B. and husband Ric Moore; brothers Wilbur (Bo) and wife Sharon Blades, Roger and wife Annette Blades, Clayton and wife Margaret Blades; sisters-in-law Ernestine Blades, Florence Bielkiewicz, Peggy Andre, and Mona and husband Michael Mayeau; and brother-in-law Rulon (Skip) Yarborough. Harold served his country in the US Army from 1956-1958. He then began his career as a fireman for the Baton Rouge Fire Department where he was always loyal, honest, and dedicated to his duties. He had a special talent for machinery repair and advanced to Master Mechanic. He loved his job and felt a great responsibility to assure that his work was thorough and safe. He was a loving and giving person with a keen sense of humor. He especially loved children, and they loved him. Harold loved and knew his Lord. He was an active member of Live Oak Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His ever-faithful Sunday School Class came to his home to hold classes when he was no longer able to attend church. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Tuesday, October 29, from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, October 30, at Pine Ridge United Methodist Church, 3893 Hwy. 440, Kentwood, at 8:00 AM with the funeral and celebration of life service at 11:00 AM.
