Jimmy Schwartz has been doing very well.  Today, he goes for a blood count.  Pray it continues to be good.  Jimmy will also see a dermatologist.  Pray for good results there.

Larry Hendry had done amazingly well.  He got off the vent yesterday evening and was eating ice.  His family thinks he is being spoiled by all the attention in the hospital.  I assume that says he is getting plenty of attention.  Keep him in your prayers.

feeding tube to strength him up for a few days. Then they will stop it
for a few days, before they tried to stop the ventilater.

Holly Kliesch continues to be carefully watched.  Her unborn baby is about three weeks from his due date.  Pray for the baby, Holly, RC, and those anxious grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.  God is richly blessing this baby by placing him in this special family.

Thankfulness – Day 26 – Babies

Today, I’m thankful for babies.  No, we don’t have a new baby in our family or one on the way, but I enjoy all the news and photos of babies here on the computer and in person, especially at church.  Each baby represents a new life (new personalities, new dreams, new smiles and giggles, new relationships, a blessed family, etc.)  We can all enjoy the new life of each child.  Thank God for each and every one of them.

Larry is making good progress! He is breathing over the vent so maybe he will be completely dependent of it soon. 

The support of family and friends was overwhelming and all I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart! We still need prayers while Larry recovers . God bless you all!

Daddy is done. Everything went great. He’s being moved to ICU for observation. Thanks for all the prayers and calls of concern! Keep em comin!

A resident of Amite, died at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Tangi Pines Nursing Center in Amite. He was born March 25, 1931 in Pine Grove and was 82 years of age. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and an avid fisherman and hunter. He was the owner of several businesses including Cecil’s Drive In, Amite Ambulance Service and Wilmer Grocery Store. Survived by wife of 49 years, Geraldine Russell “Jerry” King, Amite; children, Belinda Goff and husband, Mike, Crosby, Ms, Cynthia King Reeves, Amite and John King, Amite; 4 grandchildren, Meghan Brumfield, Lynn James and husband, John, Allen Murray and Caleb Hart; 6 great grandchildren, Shaya Lynn, Jonah and Allen, Hunter, Ashley and Jay; 2 sisters, Dorothy Harrison and husband, Jerry, Watson and Barbara Sue King, Tickfaw; numerous nieces and nephews and granddog, Moe. Preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Mae King; son, Cecil Allen King; and 2 brothers, Billy Ray King and Roland King. Floyd Wallace Lewis Sr., 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 in Maryville, TN joining his oldest son Floyd who preceded him. Born Sept. 23, 1925 in Union County, MS to T.C. and Lizzie Lofton Lewis, Floyd served in the US Navy at the end of WWII then received his law degree from Tulane. He worked for Middle South Utilities (now Entergy) in various capacities, from corporate lawyer to CEO, for more than 36 years. His numerous accomplishments and awards can be found in Who’s Who in America. Living in New Orleans for the majority of his life, Hurricane Katrina prompted their move to Maryville, TN where he enjoyed the beauty of the mountains and seasons, and his friends at Shannondale and Good News Sunday school class for the past 8 years.Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jimmie, and his children Gail and George Ratzlaff of FL, Julie and Mark McElroy of Birmingham, Ann and Kent Satterlee of LA, Carol Lewis and Tim Moses of FL, Mike and Cindy Lewis of Knoxville, 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be Wed., Nov. 27 at 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Maryville. Receiving friends prior. Mom and Dad have gotten settled back into the blessing of a condo that they’ve been able to use during this long stay in Houston! Today they planned to get out and take a short drive and enjoy the outside a few minutes. Tomorrow will be a day of appointments at the MDA clinic which is the reason she will continue to “live” in Houston for a while.
Everyday is a day of “Thanksgiving” for them as we discussed today! We are thankful for the friends and family that have fervently prayed since Day 1 and thankful for the brilliant doctors and nurses that have cared for her through it all.

Thanksgiving  – Day 25

Today, as we look ahead to the Lottie Moon Week of Prayer next week, I am thankful for missionaries.  They have a strong desire to share the “Good News” even if it takes them to destinations unknown to them and far from home (and family).  We, as Southern Baptists, are so blessed to have missionaries serving and more on the sidelines waiting to serve.  They are focused on winning the own people group to the Lord.  As someone told me Sunday morning, “I wish I had that boldness”.  Not everyone is called to serve as a missionary, but thankfully, many who have been called have accepted the call and the challenge!  They are reaping the blessings!

We also have missionaries who serve with the North American Mission Board and individual states.  I thank God for each and every one of them.

Today, I would like to thank-God for pastors/ministers, youth/children’s directors, senior adult pastors, music ministers, educational directors, outreach/hospital pastors, etc.  Some church leaders are bi-vocational, while others are full time.  Some churches only have one staff member, but others have several.  No matter the number in a particular church, I thank God for their dedication and leadership.  They set the tone for what happens in the church.

Carruth Obituary

Larry Allen Carruth
(May 17, 1942 – November 23, 2013)

A lifelong resident of Greensburg, died at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 17, 1942 in Clinton and was 71 years of age. He was the owner of Larry Carruth Appliances which later became Western Auto Associate Store and retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. He was a member of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department where he was a Past Chief and proudly achieved Firefighter 1 status. He was a former member of the Greensburg Cemetery Board and Council on Aging and was currently serving as the Greensburg Town Alderman. Mr. Larry served as Honorary Chaplain for the House of Representatives and was an active member of Greensburg United Methodist Church where he also served as a song leader. He is survived by his wife, Oneida Bridges Carruth, Greensburg; two daughters, Becky Carruth Lindsey and husband Tommy, and Beth Carruth Russell, all of Amite; step-son, Wylie Smith and wife, Eudora, Round Rock, TX; grandchildren, Daniel Vining and wife, Elizabeth, Amite, Scott Lindsey, Amite, Karibeth Lindsey, Amite, Laurie Lindsey Miller and husband, Toby, Kentwood, Madison Rhea Coxen, Amite, Shelbi Lynn Russell, Amite, and Sarah Smith, Round Rock, TX; great-grandchildren, Lexi and Beau Vining and Paisley and Parker Miller. Continue to pray for Jesse Dean as he recovers from shoulder surgery.  Pray for those caring for Jesse too.

Clint Smith is doing well.  He will be working on the recovery process now.  Due to his young age and good physical activity, his recovery may go smoother and quicker than most older people who have heart surgery.  Pray for his young family as they go through this time with him.

Thankfulness – Day 23 – Christian Writers

I do not meet many Christian writers, do I do meet them through their finished products.  As I read book or study devotionals, Bible studies, or weekly Sunday School lessons, I know someone had the heart to share and did the research necessary to write.  Then, they survived the editing,rewriting process, and publishing process.  That gives us an accurate, interesting book or article to enjoy and learn from.  I trust if you are dreaming about becoming a Christian writer, you will follow that dream and see where God leads you.

Enjoy the day with or without the sun.  Know that the Son is always there.

Susan Rimes had an appointment with her new doctor today.  She has an infection and a number of stones.  Pray for procedures that will be fully effective and timely.

Wanda Smith has had treatment on one foot that doesn’t seem to have helped yet.  In the meantime, she has developed problems with the other foot.  Pray for her as she continues therapy and doctor’s care.

Yvonne Birch and Smiley Conerly are slowly improving, but not at the rate they had hoped for.  Pray for them as they continue their recoveries from surgery.

Pray for Larry Carruth,  Randy Taylor,  and Jessica Garner and their families.  Pray for caregivers also.

Wanda Bridges and her good friend, Dana Reid, are both hospitalized in Baton Rouge.  Wanda has has a procedure done and should be home soon.  Dana had a heart attack.  I’m not sure what will be done for her or how long she will be hospitalized.

Mrs. Mary Nell Kliesch shared that Holly Kliesch Fronn’s baby boy may arrive a little early due to pregnancy problems.  Pray for Holly and her baby, as well as R.C., the proud daddy. The due date had been December 15th.

Continue to pray for Clint Smith.  Thank God that he got a quick diagnosis and surgery today.  Pray his recovery will be complete when he recovers from the surgery.

Mrs. Shirley Frazier, Mrs. Evelyn Bridges, M/M Joe Williams, and M/M Phillip Harrell need our continued prayers as they face their health issues daily.

Ruby Schwartz’s sister, Linda Boudreaux, had back surgery today and is already home.  Pray for Linda and Paul and their family.

Jimmy Schwartz shared tonight that he is doing surprisingly well.  He body is now producing blood rather than destroying it.  Thank God for Jimmy’s good report.

Thankfulness –  Day 22 – Transportation

Having a vehicle or other means of transportation gives us numerous opportunities. People who live in cities can often get around well without their own transportation, but for those of us who live in small towns or rural areas, a vehicle is usually necessary. Think of all the opportunities to worship, ministry, etc. we have access to because of owning a vehicle.  Be sure to use you transportation to help/serve/encourage/minister to other.

We had another great night at our Third Thursday meeting.  What a blessing it is to me!  We took some time to “count our blessings”.  They are many!

Tomorrow morning at 10:00, we will begin the “Mayberry” Bible Study.  This will be a four-week study and will be completed before Christmas.  We will skip the day after Thanksgiving.  We meet in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.  Everyone is welcome to join us.

Have a great day!  If you haven’t packed your shoebox(es) for Operation Christmas Child, the deadline is upon us.  Sunday will be the last day to turn in boxes this year at FBC, K.
