Today, let’s pray for pastors. We often see them on Sunday, but do not realize all the places they visit in a weeks time. I know I cannot name them all but I will name a few – counseling for those seeking salvation, counseling for those considering marriage,counseling for newly weds, counseling for those considering divorce, church members with various problems to discuss, pastors from miles around, counseling for newcomers to the area, counseling for potential pastors, new pastors, and pastors who have served many years, home visits to newcomers, home visits to those who visited his church, home visits to those who are homebound, home visits to families who have lost a loved one, etc. The list goes on and on and on. Let’s pray for those who pray for us when we are not even aware of it. Let’s pray for those who counsel members and potential members every week. Let pray for those who counsel other pastors. These men need our prayers daily for guidance, strength, knowledge, decision making, wisdom, love, etc.

Ladies and Girls on Mission
The cookie delivery scheduled for Saturday is still on Saturday, but the location will change due to Coach Shaw’s service in the sanctuary. The girls and ladies will meet in the Lighthouse instead of the Fellowship Hall.
Ladies’ Bible Study
The Pine Ridge Bible Study will meet one again today. I think there will only be two more weeks of study. It is certainly a good review for some ladies and a fantastic introduction to new Bible information for others. Kathy has been a good teacher and loves all the ladies. Today we will begin with lunch at 12:00, review our homework, and begin the next lesson. Join us at just before 12:00 if you can.
Children’s Ministry
The children’s ministry of FBC is under the leadership of a new staff member, “Miss” Shelly. She has years of experience which was evident when she first spoke at a morning worship recently. If you have children or grandchildren who are not in regular worship, bring them for a visit at FBC.
Today, I would like to thank God for the many friends he gives us, Some are there for Bible studies, some for the children we can enjoy, some for the talents they can share with us, some because of our talents we can share with others. I thank God for the many friends in my life.
Also, continue to pray for those who were visited by the two recent hurricanes. Just because you don’t see them on the news daily, doesn’t mean people are all living their normal lives and there are no major needs. Also, continue to pray for and support Samaritan’s Purse and the Baptist Disaster Relief Teams who are serving there today with multiple teams and for many days and weeks to come. Thank God for these dedicated people who go where they are needed and do so on short notice.

Today, let’s remember caregivers. They might be older people or even younger people, neighbors, relatives, friends, or simply pray for those whose families hire them to care for someone. Situations vary, but helping those in need of care is a blessing to that person and often to family members of that person. Never forget, the caregivers often learn they are blessed so much too.

Josh and Mallory Womack Maggio are thrilled to announce their first child, as son, Carter, has arrived. Their families are thrilled too. Carter was born October 8th, 2024 at 11:37 A.M. weighing 7 lbs.2 0z and measuring 20.5 inches long.
Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Raborn Davidson
August 27, 1954 – October 6, 2024
Rebecca Lynn Raborn Davidson (Becky) transitioned from her mortal life to her eternal home in heaven on the evening of Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the age of 70. She passed away at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, who had diligently and lovingly cared for her in the months, weeks and days prior to her passing. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church in Tickfaw, La.
The oldest of four children, Becky was born in McComb, MS on August 27, 1954, to Bobby and Fay Raborn of Kentwood, La. Being the oldest child of her family set the standard of taking the lead in any given situation, which she continued to do throughout her lifetime. She was often the first one to offer her time and talent to anyone inside her family or community.
After graduating with honors from Valley Forge Academy in Louisana, Becky continued her education at Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. With a lifelong love of learning, Becky chose a career in the field of education, where she excelled in the classroom for over 18 years. When out shopping or dining, she was frequently spotted by former students, who never hesitated to seek her out to tell her of the impact she had on their lives. During her illness, many students visited her or sent messages to thank her for the kindness, love and guidance that she so eagerly extended to them in her classroom.
Becky married Paul Davidson, the love of her life, on December 10, 1997. Their love for each other knew no boundaries, and that love was extended when they beautifully blended their two families, welcoming each other’s children into their hearts with unconditional love and creating a home full of love and acceptance.
After retirement, Becky eagerly became a homemaker; a job she excelled at in every aspect. She took great care to manage her home much like one would manage a 9-5 job and was insistent on maintaining immaculate flower gardens and exquisite home décor. There was no shortage of family gatherings at Becky’s home, with laughter ringing out from the pool during summer parties and the welcoming warmth of food and gifts at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, reading, traveling the world making memories with her husband, and collecting Christmas Nutcrakers – a collection that was beautifully and proudly displayed in her home throughout the year.
Becky also had a great love for animals and was Mommy to many dogs throughout her life. Of special note is Petty, the beloved labradoodle turned canine caregiver. Petty unwaveringly held vigil by Becky’s side throughout her illness. He also played doorman and greeter to every person who visited, ushering them to Becky’s beside and jumping onto the bed next to her to serve as protector.
She was quick to remind everyone that her greatest hobby and most important job was loving her family. She considered it an immense joy to be a mother and grandmother and gained an extra zest for life upon the arrival of her great grandson, Grayson Paul, with whom she shared a very unique and special bond. Grayson behaved as a little adult during his Ninny’s illness – often reminding everyone that Ninny was sick and needed special attention, and rather than spend his time playing opted to snuggle with his great-grandmother.
Becky is preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Lobre, and her mother, Fay Hart Raborn.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Davidson of Tickfaw, La; her daughter, Amanda Lewis of Tickfaw; bonus children: Pricilla Davidson, Paul Davidson, Jr., Karen Davidson Ward, Debra Davidson Smith, Beth Gill Davidson Billot, Paula Davidson, and Kyle Davidson; grandchildren: Mallory Lewis (Todd), Brooke Stilley, Aaron Chambliss (Jennifer), and Sydney Stephens; great grandchildren: Lathan, Mason, Zayn, Grayson Paul and Kanon. She is also survived by her sister, Cindy Raborn of Covington LA, Bob Raborn of McComb, MS, and Bill Raborn of Summit; nieces and nephews: Dustin Stafford, Dana Thomas, Connor Raborn, Clay Raborn, Clint Raborn, and Brody Raborn; sister-in-law Missy Lester of McComb, MS.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Antoinette Pea, who first came to Becky as a hospice aide, but quickly found a place in Becky’s heart by making her feel safe and cared for. Becky looked forward to Antoinette’s visits, which frequently occurred even on days she was not scheduled to visit. Through their bond, Antionette became a source of comfort, strength and reliability for the entire family.
Services will be held at Brandon Thompson Funeral Home in Hammond, LA on Saturday, October 19, 2024, with visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and celebration of life at 4:00 p.m.
Duke Courtney McDonald
February 9, 1963 – October 9, 2024
A resident of Covington, LA, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA. He was born February 9, 1963 in Houma, LA and was 61 years of age. Duke always had a smile on his face and was loved by all that knew him. He will be missed. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) in Monroe, Louisiana. Everyone remembers his Datsun 280z automobile which was used to advertise our annual Pi KA event called “Road Rally”. He was always handsome, impeccably dressed, and had a car to match. Today is the final day of preparation for the Lord’s Day tomorrow. Take your time and do as much preparation as you can today so tomorrow is not stressful as the devil would have it be.

Nelson “Tojo” Ballard
September 20, 1952 – October 6, 2024
Tojo’s Obituary
Nelson “Tojo” Ballard passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6th, 2024 in Washington, Pennsylvania after a brief battle with cancer. Tojo was born to Larry Ballard and Ruby King Ballard in Amite, Louisiana on September 20th, 1952. Tojo was preceded in death by his brothers Robert “Bobby” Ballard and James “Chubby” Ballard. He is survived by his sister Sharon Elaine Cash, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. To several of his nieces and nephews, Tojo was their first driving instructor in cow pastures and on back roads. “Uncle Tojo” was a taxi to the store and would spoil his favorites with coke and candy whenever he could. Tojo was responsible for a few kids first sip of beer – Schlitz Malt Liquor. Tojo was always happy to pull up in his car and have long driveway conversations, catching up on all the news and gossip with friends and family. Tojo was even known for stirring up new rumors and gossip before heading home. Later in life, when his disability no longer allowed him to drive and make his rounds, he enjoyed watching LSU and New Orleans Saints football games, NASCAR races and playing Checkers, Connect Four and other board games with friends and family members who would drop in to visit him. Tojo was loved and treasured by all who had the pleasure to know him. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 11:00AM until religious services at 1:00PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Interment will follow in Briar Patch Cemetery, Loranger. Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Prayer Focus of the Day
Today let’s pray for the people of Florida as the hurricane begins to move on across the peninsula and into the Atlantic again. Let’s pray people used their best judgement and made good decisions and are safe even if there is much damage.
Thank God for those who will be moving in today and in the coming days to repair the electrical service, to fill the food and fuel needs, help with health issues, repair roads, home, businesses, churchess, etc.
Pray for those who live in Florida and those who are traveling to their rescue.
Pray for Josh Ballard who is leaving in his truck to pull the trailer used by the feeding unit from a temporary location to its new temporary location in Florida as soon as it is safe to do so.
Pray for the Baptist Disaster Relief Teams, Samaritan’s Purse, and the local National Guard who are already in the area and ready to move into the most needed locations.

Mrs. Mildred Birch is going to move to Greensburg today or tomorrow depending on paperwork. In Greensburg Hospital she will receive rehabilitation services. Please continue to pray for her health and for her family as they share their time with her and her needs.
Pray for our senior adults who seem to have falls more often as they age.
Pray for Kenneth and Yvonne Birch who continue to have health concerns and for their family members who help with their care.
Please pray for Bro. Joe and “Miss” Barbara Baugh as they also both are dealing with health concerns.
Pray for Amy Tolar as she has begun treatment in Florida and for her mother-in-way, “Miss” Naomi as she is helping Amy and Russ.
Pray for all the others we have been praying for or for those we need to add to our prayer lists.
Other needs. Pray for needs specific to your location – things such as signs and lights needed, roads with much needed repairs, children that manage to get out of yards and onto roads, those who play and walk on the highway, wildlife, stock, and farm equipment on the highways, school zones and traffic, vehicles that travel too fast or with mechanical or driver impairment, etc.

Today, let’s say prayers for the Baptist Disaster Relief Teams from 13 states that are working in areas of the southeast that had so much damage from the last hurricane. While I was attending a WMU meeting in Alexandria yesterday, I visited with Bro. Stan Statham who heads the Louisiana Disaster Relief team. He has just returned from Georgia and North Carolina and was working to get ready for another trip. He and the team had fed hot meals to people in central Georgia and in the North Carolina mountains. He said his team was the first outsiders seen in N. C. since the hurricane. He said the needs were overwhelming and is restocking in plans to return for more cooking and sharing about God. He said we can best help him and the team by providing funds for them make purchases in quantity.
If you would rather give through your local church, be sure to specify Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief.
Bro. Stan said it will me many months before many of the people there get basic services again. Pray for them during this very difficult time.
Also, pray for the physical health of the volunteers and the people living in all those areas with so much hurricane damage. Bro. Stan seemed to be exhausted, but still keeping on. Be proud and supportive of the Baptist Relief teams in action there.

My cousin, Fran, had a busy day yesterday. She had excess fluid and AFib, but no blockages. Pray for her as she continues to be in hospitalized.

Obituary
Dennis Morgan Travis
September 14, 1949 – October 5, 2024
Dennis began his earthly walk on September 14, 1949 and embarked on his walk with Jesus on October 5, 2024 at the age of 75 years of age. Dennis proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era and was a history enthusiast. He milked cows for many years and won awards as an outstanding dairyman and for milk production. After 20 years of dairy farming, he sold the cows and went to work at Southeastern Louisiana University where he retired. Dennis enjoyed baseball cards, coins, country music, and was endeared to the Alamo and its legacy. If you saw Dennis, he usually had his loyal dog, Crockett, with him everywhere he went. Dennis served as a board member at Oak Forest Academy and was a Yellow Jacket super fan. He did not miss a home football game and was committed to running the chains until he was no longer able. Dennis faithfully served Jesus at Montpelier Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until the time of his death. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Wilson Travis; three children, Randy Travis (Carlye) of The Woodlands, TX, Delynn Travis Spinks (Kelly) of Montpelier, LA, and Dr. Brett Travis (Brandi) of Kenner, LA; 10 grandchildren, Caleb Travis, Bridges Travis, Cort Travis, Bobby Spinks (Brittany), Danny Spinks, Justin Jenkins, Kailee Spinks Neal (Jonathan), Jack Allen, Barron VonAntz, and Gabriel Travis; and one brother, Brian Travis (Molly). Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Ray Devon Travis and Cassie Inez Bridges Travis Tate; stepfather, Edward Randall Tate; and one brother, Cory Devon Travis. There are many opportunities in our churches for worship, study, visitation, etc. I’ll try to list a couple.
Pine Ridge United Methodist Church – Bible Study of the book, Seamless, on Wednesdays at noon.
Women on Mission @ FBC, Kentwood – Packaging of homemade cookies and local deliveries by ladies and girls on the 19th.
Pray for Judy Noonam and me as we travel to and from Alexandria for a state WMU meeting today.

Focus of the Day
Today, let’s try to pray for each person we see when we see them. A quick, little prayer naming the people as we see them. This will be easier for some because they may not see one person at a time. In that case, pray for them as an appropriate. An example, might be to pray for everyone in an English class, everyone parking at the pharmacy, or everyone will enter the doctor’s office today.
Also, let’s pray for special groups around the world, such as all those who are still suffering because of Hurricane Helene, all those 0n I-55 between your home and your destination, or for those in the path of the next hurricane.

Mildred Birch – unable to come home yesterday due to the injury to her arm and her injured knees
Fran Hebert – improving, but still in North Oaks
Amy Tolar – treatment beginning in Florida
Dorothy Wall – getting around better as her hip heals

Women on Mission will soon pack homemade cookies to take to some members of our community. We will be joined by the school age girls who are also learning about missions. You are welcome to join us too.
In closing, I want to express my joy in attending church and seeing many people I do not recognize. I am thankful both for those I already know and the ones I’m trying to meet, recognize the next time, and for the names I’m learning.
