Christmas Activities

There are lots of Christmas activities for young and old during this time of year. Today, the New Hope Sunday School Class will celebrate at Judy Liberto’s class at 10:00 A.M.

Next week, FBC, Kentwood will celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Eve from 6:00-6:30. Everyone is invited to attend.

Sunday School

Sunday’s lesson will be from the first chapter of Luke.

Reading Luke

If you are reading Luke this December, you will need to read chapter 18.

Stamped Christmas Cards

I like to think the cards we bought and prepared for the inmates have been written and are in the mail to loved ones by now. Thank-you for participating in this mission project of Women on Mission.

Have a wonderful day. Be sure to do something for others today.

“See” you tomorrow.

THURSDAY

Christmas Eve Service

FBC, Kentwood will have a candlelight service from 6:00-6:30 Tuesday. It’s a great way to celebrate the season and reminds us of family and friends. If you do not have plans to attend a service somewhere else at that time, feel free to join us.

Prayer List

Please add my daughter-in-law’s mother, Donna Robertson of Gonzales, to your prayer list.

Operation Christmas Child

I thank you so much for helping us collect, remove cardboard, organize, and pack the shoeboxes for 2025. You were so helpful in 2024! We will begin collecting items for our 2025 shoeboxes in January.

Remember the most important thing the children receive in the shoeboxes is not a notebook, a hygiene item, a school supply, or even a toy. It’s the opportunity to learn about Jesus!

Women and Girls on Mission will not meet this month, but will be back in January. Our December mission project was to take stamped Christmas cards to the prisoners in the parish jail.

Churches in Tangipahoa parish had their cards delivered to the jail in Amite. St. Helena churches had their cards delivered to the parish jail in Greensburg.

Thank-you for helping by providing cards and stamps. Now, lets pray as prisoners get to write cards and family members will receive them.

Stay tuned to learn about the January mission projeck.

Christmas Card for the Prisoners to Write and Send to Family Members

The Two Rivers Women on Mission and Women’s Missionary Unions met earlier this month. I do not have a count of cards the the St. Helena ladies gave, but the ladies of Tangipahoa Parish gave 270 stamped Christmas cards so prisoners who cannot be with family in their usual celebrations can at least write and send the cards to family members.

Ladies, thanks for investing in the lives of the prisoners. Pray for families who meet together, but without some members who are behind bars. That is surely a hard position to be in during the Christmas season. Ladies, you made a difference in some lives at Christmas this year!

Christmas Lights: I hope you will find time to enjoy some Christmas programs at churches and/or schools this year, experience Christmas music and or Christmas lights and other decorations. May you be able to do these things and focus on Jesus and what His life means to our lives.

Operation Christmas Child: I have not checked on the destination for the shoeboxes the churches in our area packed, but I understand many of the boxes who went through Dallas this year went to Honduras. Think how happy the boys and girls there will be as they open ane enjoy the contents of the red and green boxes. Also, realize each box gives eight people the opportunity to hear about and take Jesus into their lives. Shoeboxes are much more than Christmas gifts. They include Jesus to the children and their families! I can think of no gift that would be better!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

MONDAY

Reading Luke for Christmas

Today, you should be on Luke 14. If you missed a chapter, read two today to catch up. If you missed several chapters, read two every day until you catch up. If is takes reading to the end of the month, that is much better than not doing it at all.

The program last night and was well attended. The best thing is that the children (and their leadership) did a great job! Thank -you to all who participated in any way.

Reward Tickets OCC Received

Operation Christmas Child received some tickets to Silver Dollar City. David used one ticket while I stayed in the motel not feeling well. We have been able to share some tickets, but we still have four left. If you can go in the next two weeks and would like the free tickets to Silver Dollar City, please say so. They are good through the 30th.

I must say Branson, MO is well decorated for Christmas and there are lots of other things to do there in additions to Silver Dollar City. David and I made our first trip there in 1968. Give me a call if you can use the tickets.

August 29, 1964 – December 14, 2024

Tammy Renae Boudreaux, 60, of Apache Junction, AZ passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Tammy was born on August 29, 1964 in Greensburg, LA to Frances “Virginia” Martin and Tom Ed Bridges Jr. Being raised on a dairy farm, Tammy developed a deep love for animals, specifically horses. It was her love of horses that led her to true love. Tammy met Michael Anthony Boudreaux on a trail ride in 1987 and they married a year later on June 4, 1988, recently celebrating their 36th year anniversary.

Tammy loved teaching young children which led to her favorite career by far as a Pre-K teacher at Oak Forest Academy for approximately 12 years. In addition to teaching, Tammy loved spending time with family and friends, cheering on LSU in any sport, and going to the beach where she collected seashells. In 2021, Tammy and Michael left Louisiana for Arizona to be closer to their first grandchild, Magnolia (Maggie). Tammy loved her grand babies with all her heart and lived for the moments they spent together.

Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Virginia Bridges (Thigpen) and Tom Ed Bridges, and her sister Rhonda Gayle Bridges. She is survived by her Husband: Michael Anthony Boudreaux; Sons: Colton (Alexia) and Landon (Nicole); Stepchildren: Michael (Lindsey) and Joni; Grandchildren: Magnolia, Maverick; Step-grandchildren: Hannah and Jaden; Brother: Cline Edward “Bubba” Bridges (Betty) and countless nieces and nephews who called her “MiMi.”

Tammy with be returning to Greensburg where she will be buried at Pine Hill Cemetery with her parents and sister. Even though she spent her final years in Arizona, her heart always remained in Louisiana.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19th 2024, at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral proceedings and mass will be held Friday, December 20th, 2024, at 9 am at St Helena Catholic Church in Amite, LA. Following burial, a reception will be held in the church hall to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tammy’s name to the CJD Foundation.

SATURDAY

I missed you the past week. David and I took a much needed trip to Branson, MO. I planned to “visit” you each day, but there was a problem with the internet in the hotel where we stayed. I also was not feeling my best, but am better now. It is miserable to be “under the weather” and not at home. I apologize for not posting, but the situation was “out of my hands”.

Several of you checked on us or had a relative or friend to contact us. That made us feel good, but it just didn’t help my ability to post. I’m sure I missed you more than you missed me.

We did get to see a number of shows in Branson that were wonderful. We experience the Christmas season with wonderful holiday decorations everywhere around us, watched some video presentations about the origin of Branson and another one, “Where Jesus Walked” that was very good. We also heard some great music and watched people of all ages on the stage. The music was wonderful and certainly helped us to think about the real meaning of Christmas. Today, I will be back on my shedudle and also catching up on some items I want to share.

Prayer Focus for Today

Today, let’s pray this Christmas season to be a time of healing in hearts that have faced major hurts or changes in the last few weeks and months. If you are one of those people, please know we are praying for you in the coming days of December and all the way to the year 2025.

Charles was in construction all of his life and he loved to work, to see things come together and just to see the finished project. He had many life threatening health issues the last 2 years. He thanked God for bringing him through. He wanted to live to be 80, but since it is not to be, please remember him on February 5th. He lived a simple life. He didn’t require much for himself, but gave a lot. Many thanks to all the doctors and staff, Dawn his home health nurse, St. Helena Council on Aging and Meals on Wheels. Special thanks and blessings to those who were the hands and feet of Jesus who ministered to him as written in Matthew 25. Lottie Moon Tea

I was able to attend the Women on Mission/WMU Tea at Spring Creek Baptist Church before attending the funeral for my cousin, Fran, last Saturday. Wow, so much has happened since then!

The tea was an opportunity to gather with ladies, sing Christmas carols, pray for those who will be touched by the cards, and for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in 2024.

We also heard from a young lady who will going to a country in Europe in September 2025. She is so excited to have been selected, with her husband, to tell others about Jesus and to be a mentor to those who live there.

I could really relate to her because our daughter and her family were able to do that in June 2000 after she and her husband had already served in different countries as part of the Journeyman Program and served in a Texas church. They also had two young children when they left. Hearing from this young lady made me think back to June, 2000 when they left and to dedicate my prayers in the coming months and years to her and her husband as they serve.

Sunday School

I missed teaching my wonderful ladies last week, but Mrs. Barbara Baugh stepped in and taught the class. I love to hear her teach. My class also had a meeting at Judy Liberto’s class Tuesday. I missed being there with them. I look forward to continuing the study of Exodus tomorrow.

Reading Luke this month.

I hope you were able to continue reading Luke last week. If so, you should be on chapter 11 now. Wherever you are, keep reading. It will be a good addition to the Christmas season in your home and help keep your focus on the real reason we celebrate during this time of the year.

Think of Others

This is a wonderful time of the year to think of family and friends. Make sure you spend some of the remainder of this month thinking of others and spending time with them. You can help “make the holidays special” for them in your own ways. David and I will be trying to do the same.

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

Shoebox Report:

Operation Christmas Child Drop-Off Week

Today, I would love to give you some Operation Christmas Child corrections of statistics. I was having computer issues yesterday morning, so I want to make some additions and corrections.

First Baptist Church served as an area location of the drop-off of shoeboxes and transported the boxes (two trips) to their next site. The drop-off week was November 18-25.

  • FBC, Kentwood packed 499 shoeboxes.
  • We received a total of 1,493 shoeboxes from churches during the eight days.
  • 906 shoeboxes were received on the first day.
  • 12 churches delivered shoeboxes to our collection site.
  • There were 13 volunteers who “manned” our drop-off location and who put in a total of 288 hours during those 8 days.
  • These people placed the boxes in 94 large cartons holding an average of 15-16 shoeboxes.
  • The cartons were placed in the trailer along with 12 boxes of filler that was sent to help fill boxes that needed to have something, such as a liquid, removed.
  • 2024 was a great shoebox year for our area!

Health Concerns

We often pray for individuals with serious illnesses and for individuals with deaths is the family. Today, let’s pray for those who have a common cold that they are having a hard time clearing up. Colds make a person feel bad and are easily spread. People feel they cannot miss work, attend school, etc. until they are completely well, so they often wind up exposing other people. Today, let’s pray people don’t have a lingering cold that spreads or turns into something else.

Have a good weekend, but don’t leave God out of your plans.
