I must say The Lord’s Day was special for me – Sunday School, worship, VBS commencement at FBC, K , and worship at NZBC with evangelist Calvin Crow and his musically talented family.  I rode home telling David I learned two things about the familiar Scripture passage that I never learned before.  It was a good day!

Macy Gueldner

You know you’re flexible when you can rub your eyes with your feet. Macy did this just before she took this picture. She had the nasty chemo yesterday, in addition to starting steroids. She already had a mouth full of swollen sores before yesterday’s chemo, and now she’s on her normal downward spiral. We’re trying to keep her as comfortable as possible. In true Macy fashion, she ignores most of the agony and rocks through each day with the most inspiring strength.
We’re on a camping trip this weekend, just the 4 of us, and we’re really enjoying our time together.
Much thanks sent from us to you, for your continued thoughts and prayers!

Feeling selfish. I just want our “normal” back. Doug must get good nutrition to be able to do his physical therapy and he is barely eating. I will try to do some exercises with him this weekend. He enjoys them.

Martha P. Drago

I started my radiation treatments today at MBP in Baton Rouge. I will have to drive to Baton Rouge everyday for 6 weeks. Since the cancer was on the left side, receiving radiation on that side can affect your heart. My radiation oncologist wanted me to use a new technique that is only available at theBaton Rouge MBP. It’s almost like being on an episode of Star Trek the way it is a set up, but without going into all the detail, it calls for me to hold my breath while receiving the radiation. This moves my heart out of the way and in return no radiation to the heart! Not looking forward to the drive everyday but what is six weeks in the scheme of things! I would much rather have a healthy heart! There is a light at the end of the tunnel and with each day it shines brighter! I am so grateful for all of your prayers and support. I would not have gotten this far in the journey without God, family and friends! Please continue to pray for successful radiation with little or no side affects and safe travels to and from Baton Rouge each day! Macy is doing well, please continue to pray for her as well!

Betty Taylor

Pray for Betty as she gets a new medication in her eye today.  Her back is better now.

Debbie and David Bales

Debbie has had a continuing problem with her legs, but is doing better.  She is thrilled to report that her son, David, had some recent tests that yielded good results.  Thank God for their great reports.

Debbie Miller

Pray for Debbie and her family as her health issues continue to be addressed.

Do you remember the “kind gentleman” who had a recent procedure?

Please continue praying for him and his family.

Mrs. Doris Young

Betty Simpson’s sister has had more testing.  Pray for her as she awaits results.

Mr. Burnell Simpson

Mr. Burnell Simpson was hospitalized for a few days, but has been released now.  Please add him to your prayer list.

VBS at FBC, Kentwood – Day 4 and going strong.  If your children/grandchildren have not been attending, it is not too late for them to get in two great days of VBS.

I love to teach children about missions.  My own missionaries will be returning “home” next month.  Pray for them as they sort through things and pack for the return trip. I thank God for this year, the first, the grandchildren had in American schools.  Thank God for the new friendships that have been made, the new missionaries that have been trained, and the friendships overseas that will continue to thrive.  Pray for their ministry to be fruitful.

You have lots of opportunities to serve God today.   One opportunity is to freeze food to be given to some local families.  It comes in so handy so them can have some home-cooked meals when that is no longer able to happen in their home.

Wednesday

“That I may open my mouth boldly

to make known the mystery of the gospel . . .

that in it I may speak boldly,

as I ought to speak.”

~Ephesians 6:19b-20, NKJV~

(This is my prayer for each and every  teacher at any VBS in any church this summer.)

Mike Miller

Yesterday, Beverly Rohbacker asked for prayer for her cousin, Mike Miller.  She quickly told me he is NOT the Mike Miller from Kentwood.  This Mike had polio as a child.  I asked was he from Roseland.  Yes, he is the one many of us knew many years ago.  He is now 59 and in ICU at Brookhaven.  Please pray for Mike and his family.

Jadon’s Journey

We have been spending alot of time in waiting rooms. Dentist said no cavities for Jacob and Jadon. Orthotic specialist said we will order new braces for Jadon at the end of July. ENT said Jacob has to have his tubes removed next Tuesday and neurologist said that Jadon is doing fantastic. After Tuesday we should be done for a while!!

Kathy Smith

I don’t know all the details, but Bro. Danny Smith’s wife has had surgery followed by additional problems.  Please pray for Kathy and her family.  Bro. Danny is so faithful to visit Kentwood people who are hospitalized.  We certainly need to add them to our prayer list.

Eleanor Morris

Eleanor Morris went to her doctor yesterday.  She had some chest pains and was rushed to OLOL and admitted.  The doctor DOES NOT think she had a heart problem, but she was admitted for tests to learn more.  She should be released today unless results from tests show a need for a longer stay.  As you pray for her, pray for her family.  Eleanor is usually the caregiver for them.

New Baby – Rebekah Josephine Humphrey

Rev. and Mrs. Byron Humphrey of Roseland  and Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Humphrey, grandparents, are proud of this new child in the family.  She was born yesterday (7.16 lbs & 19.5 inches).  I know her great-grandmother “Miss” Jo (Josephine Williams of Amite) is smiling down from Heaven.

Operation Christmas Child – I trust you are collecting for October, 2015 packing.

Julia was born in Ukraine into a family full of poverty, pain and addiction. When she was 8-years-old, Julia’s father took all of their possessions and left her and her mother. One day, her mother was invited to church by a friend and gave her life to the Lord. Soon after, Julia’s church received brightly colored shoeboxes. Julia not only got a gift that day, but finally something to call her own. In her box she found candy, jewelry and other girl items. Julia said the shoebox gift gave her hope of a safe place. Eventually, Julia started working with the group who delivered the shoebox gifts and began reaching out to other children who grew up like she did. Julia’s own shoebox gave her more than material items; it gave her hope and reminded her that the Lord would keep her safe.

Summer Mixon

Update 6/1:

Summer Mixon is being transferred to Tulane tomorrow if all goes as planned. Her liver enzymes and bilirubin keep going up so they are moving her to where the liver specialist is located. Thank you to Donnie Stratton for taking care of our girl, we are so blessed to have you in our life. Thank you everyone for all the prayers, Jesus has this and we are believing that she will be healed.

Rev. Bill Ichter was the youth minister when I was a child.  Later, God sent Jennie to Brazil to teach his grandchildren for two years.  We stay connected.

Tomorrow,June 2,we celebrate 66 years of marriage. It will be a bitter sweet occasion. Joy and gratitude to God for these years;BUT sadness because my dear wife,-for sometime now has had Alzeimers, an illness that little by little takes all of the personality from the person. We are grateful to God,because if He had not given us long lives(I will be 90 this year, and she will be 85.) we would not have the problems we are having, problems that normally affect older people.

She has been a faithful and virtuous woman;admirable mother of 4 children she dedicated much of her time taking care of while I traveled all over Brazil and other parts of the world; an exemplary grandmother and great grandmother. God has been very merciful to us, because she perceives absolutely nothing. that is happening to her.,however those of us who take care of her see her precious personality disappearing little by little.I am so grateful to God for having brought Alana and Ron back after serving 31 years in Brazil exactly at this time that I need them so much.

VBS, Day 2 at FBC, Kentwood begins at 8:30 this morning.

There will be no Friday morning Bible study this week because of VBS.

Sunday, is our day to bring frozen food to my Sunday School room so it can be distributed later that day.  Share some by placing it in quart size freezer bags and labeling it.

Sylvester Humphrey (Director of Hope Center)

Sylvester was discharged from the hospital today; nearly two weeks in the hospital. Thank you all for the prayers. Please continue to pray for his complete recovery, as he still has some time before he is completely well. His blood count is still really low, and will be requiring Home Health, antibiotics, PT, respiratory treatments, etc. God is so good. He has blessed us through all of this. It is a blessing to have so many praying for him!! We love you all!!!

Summer Mixon

Update 5/31:  Summer Mixon is in a room, she is still having issues with her bilirubin being elevated. The doctors are consulting with a Tulane and Ochner liver specialist to discuss the next step in her recovery. As of now they are thinking she will need to be moved to Tulane or Ochner to be where the specialist is located but have not made any arrangements to move her as of yet. Thank you everyone for the continued prayers.

Koltyn Gafford

Koltyn is progressing very well with his therapy. He is able to pull his head up and hold it upright from a pull to sit position. This picture was taken while Brad was carrying him and he was picking his head up off his shoulders all by hisself.
His arms and legs are moving all over the place.
He is able to roll to his side unassisted.
He hates tummy time.
Just the other day we were given/donated a stander that helps him build his leg muscles back up. He has been able to stand in it for about 15mins at a time without his knees buckling, which is awesome. His personality is definitely starting to come back a lil more each and everyday. Anytime you talk to him he smiles or even chuckles back at you. This has been the greatest accomplishment for me to watch so far!
He is starting to recognize things and people a lot better. Kyler is able to keep him smiling and laughing all the time. He loves to watch his favorite character Marshal on Paw Patrol, it makes him laugh as well.
We are still having some issues with seizures which some days are better than others but aren’t going to get us down. We keep striving to get him to his next level of achievement. He is a very strong brave lil boy and will continue to progress each and every second of everyday.

Lowry Grambling Carruth

Lowry Grambling Carruth passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the age of 86. He was born and raised in New Orleans. After graduating from Warren Eastern High school and LSU, he became a contractor building houses in Lakeview. Later he started a family business with his brother, father and uncle, Carruth Brother’s Lumber Company, which he handed down to his sons and grandsons.
