Special Request

Pray for Kathy Wales as she had a Takotsubo Syndrome heart attack (stress) Wednesday evening and is in North Oaks. There are no blockages and it will heal itself after a period of time with rest. She is improving with every hour. We hope to be back home any day.

OCC Totes

We only had four ladies to cut fabric for totes yesterday, but we were able to cut out about 100 totes. Barbara Hutchinson will do the sewing on them and Judy Liberto and Jan Yarborough will insert the ties. The finished totes come back to me in sets of twenty-five. They are always beautiful.

Senior Recognition

Today we will honor those who graduate from high school, trade school, and college with a meal and with recognition and a study Bible during church service. Church members have marked favorite verses in the Bibles. What a treasure these Bibles will be.

Special Favor

Do me a favor and help pass along the way to find TPL on a phone this week. People often tell me they do not know about TPL. Others tell me they are so thankful a friend did tell them about TPL. I plan to continue to write as long as God allows me to write.

OCC

Thanks to the senior adult men for a nice donation to OCC. Wanda Smith is ordering the things we are most lacking as I give her the needed information. David and I have made a current list so we know what is most needed for all the boxes. I also had periodic cash donations that come in handy too. It’s time to do some local shopping. That’s how the deals are found!

Thanks for donations of your time or money, we are getting closer and closer to having the OCC items for 2024. After the time donations to completed tasks, we will be ready to pack before you know it.

Prayer Focus Again Today

Today, let’s spend some more time praying for the people of Houston. David told me this morning that the death total from the storm the day before yesterday has increased there. Pray for those who are still trapped and those for more to be located today. Pray for those who are searching. Pray for the many, many households without power there and in so many other places. Let’s say special prayers for graduations that cannot be held, wedding plans that have had major adjustments, and families with members in hospitals. Pray for people in all phases of life who have had their schedules/plans changed due to the storm that is now in Florida and causing damage there.

Sunday School Lesson

The lesson for tomorrow is from Genesis 45:1-15. What a good story to review and to learn from!

Cutting Party

Today, ladies will meet in the fellowship hall to cut fabric which will be made into the tote bags we give each child in their shoebox. We will meet from 9-12. Be sure to bring your pinking shears. If you haven’t been before, come anyway. It is easy to learn what is being done.

Graduates

The high school, college, and trade school graduates will be honored tomorrow during the worship service. They will be given Bibles that others have written notes/Scriptures in. Time is getting short. If you would like to come to the fellowship hall and sign the books, come while we are there this morning. You won’t bother us.

Have a fanstatic day! As we think of all the rain this morning, let’s remember the drought we had a few months ago. Let’s remember God’s timing is always right!

Prayer Focus – Houston

Pray for Houston and the surrounding area. The storm that hit there yesterday was a strong one causing much damage. Many people here have family members living there. Damage was widespread causing problems for many people. The news this morning said four people were killed. Let’s pray for Houston’s recovery and for the individuals who lost so much. Let’s also pray for those who will be going to Houston to help rebuild homes, repair roofs, repair utility services, provide temporary homes and jobs, work to repair churches, businesses, schools, etc. Thank God so many lives were spared.

Thankfulness

Let’s all be thankful and tell God we are thankful the storm that hit Houston was not so damaging to our area.

Prayer Request – Mr. Gill

Kenny Ray Gill called yesterday. His dad fell at the facility where he and “Miss” Dot are staying. He had a hard hit to his head. After spending Wednesday night in the hospital, he was released. Pray for Kenny Ray, Sherry, and Mike as they check on their parents regularly. The Gills have been married seventy years.

OCC Cutting Party and Bibles for Graduates

We will be marking and cutting fabric for tote bags Saturday morning in the fellowship hall at 9:00 A.M. Bring your pinking shears and come help us. Before you leave, you can mark your favorite Scripture in the Bibles to be given to the graduates Sunday morning.

Prayer Focus

Today, let’s focus our prayers on all the church and school camps and school athletic practices that are ahead for our students. Pray for safe traveling for all and for safe practices for the sports activities. Let’s start praying early and continue all summer. Our children and grandchildren, as well as neighbors and church friends, are worth the extra time and effort of our prayers.

Homebound

This time of the year is a good time to share some of our pretty blooming plants with someone who is homebound. Many of the ladies and men would also appreciate some of the fresh vegetables that are becoming available. Let me give you a good example.

An elderly friend of ours had a birthday a few years ago. I baked her a cake. David picked vegetables he had grown and put them in rumpled bags. She took my cake and put it on the counter. Then, she open the bags and stroked the vegetables while telling David how excited she was to get all the wonderful vegetables. She was still bragging on the ways she was going to prepare the vegetables for the next few days when we walked out the door. Let’s just say I learned a big lesson that day!

OCC Workday

Our workday Saturday will focus on cutting out fabric so it can be made into the totes that ALL the boys and girls who receive our boxes will receive. We are sending 450 shoeboxes this year! That means lots of totes will be made.

Meet in the church fellowship hall at 9:00 and bring your pinking shears. Each person is able to have a table or two and works independently.

After we cut the fabric, one lady will sew and iron the totes. Another lady will put the drawstrings into the bags. Then, the totes are turned in to me in groups of 25 for storage until the packing begins. One of the totes and lots of love will go into each shoebox we send.

We were blessed with the gift of lots of fabric, much of it with patterns specific to children, this year. It is a joy to see it cut and ready for the next step and causes me to thank the giver over and over. Many thanks, too, to those in Kentwood who work on the totes each step of the way!

Thankfulness

David and I are safe and thankful the weather was not a problem for us. Our Demco power never went out. Today, we need to see if any of our friends/neighbors need any help. We all need to thank God for being with us and keeping us safe during the storm yesterday.

Looking Ahead

We are looking forward to getting out in God’s beautiful countryside and purchasing more mulch for out shrubbery. I think that is helpful both in appearance and in holding moisture. I thank God we, mostly David, are able to do spring yard improvements.

OCC

We made a stop at the church yesterday to move some OCC donations from the fellowship hall to the OCC area. We also had some OCC purchases because Wanda ordered some items another class paid for. Thanks to all involved in finishing our count of red pens and sewing kits. Now, we will check the list and make our next mail order.

Placing orders is so different from our family orders to Sears! We also get our packages much quicker now. I thank God for all the improvements that have made OCC orders better than they were in the 50’s and 60’s.

Ladies who are interested in cutting out totes are invited to join us Saturday at the fellowship hall. Bring your pinking shears to do the cutting.

Annie Armstrong Offering for North America Missions

It’s not too late to give an offering to the mission projects of the Southern Baptist Convention. Working together we can accomplish so much, just as helping with OCC through Samaritan’s Purse.

Special Prayers for Our Children and Youth

School is ending this week for all our school age children. Let’s pray for them as the church moves into a summer schedule with lots of activities and camps on the schedule. May the summer activities draw out children and youth closer to the Lord.

It takes lots of church volunteers to have all these activities for the children and youth. Help as you are able. You’ll be surprised how beneficial this is in helping you if you volunteer.

I remember this phrase from years ago – “Each One Doing Their Part”. That’s true of so much we do in our churches.

Thank-you for reading, praying, and following through with helping. I wonder what God has in store for each of us as we serve Him this week.

What an Awesome Church Service!

If you were not present for morning worship at FBC, Kentwood yesterday or did not watch online yesterday, may I suggest you watch the service today. God was surely present in the service and working in the hearts of many people. I am very thankful for the many ways our church is being blessed each week.

The service can be found on Facebook (FBC, Kentwood, LA). You can watch at a time that is convenient for you.

Recent Surgeries

Please pray for those who have recently had surgeries. They seem to all be progressing well.

I don’t know of any scheduled for this week, but it would be unusual to not have friends scheduled for surgery this week. If you know of some, please feel free to send me a message by pressing the Contact Button on this page and writing me a brief message.

Bibles for Graduates

The Bibles are on table in the hallway of the fellowship hall. Stop by the office and ask someone to unlock the buildings so you can write on, mark special passages in the Bibles for the seniors. Help to create an extra special gift for each graduate.

VBS

The first full week of June is when we have VBS at FBC, Kentwood. Check the church’s website for more information, to sign your children up, and to order shirts for your children.

OCC

Ladies will meet Saturday in the fellowship hall to cut out fabric for totes. We will work from 9 A.M. – Noon. Be sure to bring your pinking shears.

Thanks to individuals and classes who have turned in recently purchased items for OCC or who have ordered items that are being shipped this week. We appreciate your purchases so much. Without them we would be unable to pack and send 450 shoeboxes this year.

Can you imagine buying all the wonderful items needed to pack 450 shoeboxes? That’s why you help is needed. Many of you answer the call ro help. Thanks so much!

Prayer Focus Today

Today, let’s pray for Sunday School members who were not able to attend yesterday. Then, call them, write to them, message them, or best of all, visit them. It is so important to keep up with absent members. Show you care.

Have a wonderful, even if rainy, day. This is the day God has chosen for us. Let’s find some ways to use it well. Let’s surely not waste it.
