‘My Father Showed You’
In Matthew 16:17-19, Jesus blesses Simon Peter for recognizing him as the Messiah, the Son of the living God, which was revealed to him by God the Father. Jesus then declares that he will build his church on this “rock” (Peter’s faith), and that the powers of death will not overcome it. He also gives Peter the “keys of the kingdom of heaven,” meaning Peter will have authority to determine what is acceptable in God’s kingdom based on his teachings.

Today, let’s pray for teachers as they prepare for the 2025-20026 school year. It might be interesting to make a list of all the teachers you know and for whom you will be praying. You will probably know more teachers than you realize. Say special prayers for the first-time teachers.

Be an Encourager
Make today a better day for others. Use your prayer time to pray for others. You do not have to tell them you are praying for them, just pray. They do not need to have their name on a sick list. Choose someone and pray for them periodically today.
Good morning, friends. I’m thankful you are visiting again this morning. Today is the first of August. To me that means the fall season is closer. To others, it may mean school will soon be starting. I don’t have that connection this time of the school year.
Use your personal prayer list to pray this morning. Be sure to spent some time praying for others. Do you remember singing the hymn, “Others”? I do! I think it helped me realize how important it is to pray for and do for others.
I just now looked it up in the Broadman Hymnal. Page 77 not only gives me all four verses, but also other information such as the date 1917 and the names of C.D. Meigs and Elizabeth McE. Shields. To me, the words teach and remind me of their great lesson every time they come to mind.
Have a wonderful day as you focus some of this day on “Others”.
A resident of Greensburg, LA, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at his home. He was born November 4, 1946 in Baton Rouge, LA and was 78 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Miller Stewart; 3 children, Robert Bernard Stewart, Sr. (Julie), Charles Leslie Stewart, and Helen Bernice Allen (Mark); 6 grandchildren, Robert Bernard Stewart, Jr., James Carney Stewart, Emily Blaine Allen, Mackenzie Leigh Allen Howard (Jacob), Lillian Marie Allen, and Joseph Edward Allen; great-granddaughter, Vivian Leigh Howard; brothers and sisters, Larry Stewart (Rosana), Paul Stewart (Mona), Don Stewart (Diane), Ruth Cutrer (George) and Helen Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death parents, Robert and Lillian Stewart; and a brother, Arthur Stewart. Today, as we have another HOT weather day, let’s remember those who do not have ideal cooling systems. If there is any way you can make this day more bearable for others, please step up and do so.

School will soon be starting back. Just ask a teacher.
We have another heat advisory today. Please be careful and don’t get too hot. Staying hydrated is very important! Look out for others too, especially the very young and very old in your family, neighborhood, church, etc.
