Christmas Cards for Prisoners

For many years, Two Rivers Association ladies have encouraged their church members to purchase Christmas Cards to give to the inmates at the Tangipahoa and St. Helena parish jails. The cards are given to prisoners to write messages to family members during the Christmas season.

The process is easy.

  1. Purchase Christmas cards, religious ones if possible. I have seen some wonderful package deals this year.
  2. Purchase postal stamps, seasonal ones if possible.
  3. Place each card in an envelope.
  4. Place a stamp on each envelope. (YOU DO NOT WRITE ON THE CARDS OR ENVELOPES.)
  5. Turn in to your church.
  6. Ladies of the churches will turn them in at Spring Creek Baptist Church on December 6th OR you can drop them off at FBC, Kentwood church office Monday – Friday through December 7th for Tangipahoa parish and at FBC, Greensburg for St. Helena parish. Judy Noonan and I will deliver them to the two jails.
  7. Thank you for your willingness to give families some Christmas joy and an opportunity for the message about the birth of Jesus to impact many families during the Christmas season. May you also be blessed.

Prepare for Sunday School.

My class uses the Explore the Bible literature. Our lesson for tomorrow is “Fully Committed” and based on Deuteronomy 30:11-20. Literature for the next quarter should be available this week or next week. You can always prepare by reading from your Bible.

Extra Scripture to Think About

20 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God,

21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering.

22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand.

23 At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision:

Pray for Others

Be sure to take time to pray for those in your on your personal prayer list.

Thankfulness, Day 22

Today, I am thankful for knowing many people who are interested in missions. For example, when David and I rode with Wade Boone in the church van pulling a trailer loaded with cartons of shoeboxes, I saw many adults and high school students working to transfer boxes from trailers to an 18-wheeler. Among those working there were friends I have met through shoeboxes, but also a former school teacher friend and a former international missionary who served with my daughter in the same city for a few years. Wonderful friends! I’m so thankful for them.

Spend some time counting your blessings this month.

Anna Lee

P.S. FYI – I learned that shoeboxes from this region will be sent to Charlotte, not Dallas, this year. Our shoeboxes will leave the country traveling east/southeast this year! Pray for the shoeboxes to touch many lives as they travel to their “homes”.

Updates

Bobby Simpson is home. Betty is making lots of adjustments. Pray for them and their family.

Trey Harrison is still in a room at OLOL. They are anxious to get home, but don’t know when that will happer. Keep praying.

Operation Christmas Child

We received 205 shoeboxes yesterday and delivered 1,250 shoeboxes packed in cartons of 15 shoeboxes to an 18-wheeler for transport to Charlotte, NC. James Rimes planned to drive the van with the trailer, but was unable to do so. Wade Boone stepped in and did an excellent job of transporting the boxes to Hammond and getting David and me back to the church. Thank you James and Wade for your skills and willingness.

It takes many volunteers to accomplish all that is done by Samaritan’s Purse. No one person is responsible for doing everything. It feels good to do our little part in such a major endeavor.

Thankfulness

Today, I am thankful for volunteers who do many tasks in teaching, missions, leadership, etc. God uses many in His work. The key is being willing and available.

Coming Soon

Churches will soon be presenting Christmas programs, have class Christmas gatherings.

Thursday

Thankfulness

  • Day 19, I’m thankful for everyone associated with the Samaritan’s Purse Organization who developed this opportunity to tell people all around the world about Jesus beginning with a shoebox of gift and lots of love and extending through many people until the children and their families are reached. The gifts are wonderful to the children, but the heavenly rewards are outstanding and permanent. What could possible be better than spending eternity in heaven with Jesus?
  • Day 20, I’m thankful for individuals in many churches and other organizations who pray, shop, pack, pay, and pray some more. What an awesome opportunity for those who are involved in packing shoeboxes.

(I taught her sister, Terry for several years. I know her mother, but somehow I did not know there were two more daughters in the family.)

Susan Kaye Jordan Cooper

February 14, 1956 – November 7, 2025

Susan K Cooper, resident of Amite, LA, born Feb 14, 1956 in Weston, West Virginia, was called home on Nov 7, 2025. She was met by her husband Edwin, daughter Cassandra, son Sean Micheal, parents Otto and Dolores Paugh and Walter Jordan.

Left to carry on and cherish her memory are her daughter Nikki, son Jay, daughter in law Tabbie and son in law Kyle. She knew no greater joy than that of her grandchildren Olivia Finley, Alexis Courville, Amelia Cobb, Jase Cooper and Corlea Cooper and great granddaughter Ezralynn Courville.

Susan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and yell at the TV when the W VA Mountaineers were playing. You always knew when she didn’t agree with a call!

It was Susan’s wish to be cremated to be with her husband Edwin after his passing just one month prior to hers. The family is grieving privately but will hold a joint celebration of life for Susan and Edwin at a later date.

Susan was a member of The First Baptist Church of Arcola where she found a wonderful church family. They provided her with so much love, support and a genuine sense of community. As such, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor her do so by making a donation to The First Baptist Church of Arcola.

The family thanks everyone for their outpouring of love and support. For an online guestbook, visit http://www.mckneelys.com.

Thankfulness

Today, I am thankful to Samaritans’ Purse for creating Operation Christmas Child with the goal of sharing the Good News of Jesus with children in the poorest and often least connected areas of the world.

I’m a thankful for the individuals, families, and classes who have worked all year so items can be purchased, prepared for shipment, boxed, and postage paid.

Yesterday, was our first day of drop-off week (eight days). I cannot tell you how hard the volunteers worked and what an attitude was apparent that was both sweet, helpful, caring, and cheerful.

Yesterday’s statistics:

  • Five churches
  • 961 shoeboxes
  • Packed into 61 cartons
  • Eight volunteers
  • Two hours

That’s both a mouthful and a very productive two full hours. We had a prayer time for the shoeboxes, the recipients, and others. God blessed us greatly by giving us the opportunity to work on the shoeboxes all year and again this week.

Updates

  • Trey Harrison has improved. Yesterday, his mother shared the “latest information”. Doctors are in a process of eliminating possible causes and working to pinpoint the exact problems. In the meantime, he is able to respond and communicate better than when he first became ill a week ago. Keep praying for Trey, the medical staff, and his family.
  • Bobby Simpson is not progressing as well as hoped for. He is not ready for rehab. Pray for more strength and the ability to follow commands. Pray for his family as they continue to stay by his side at North Oaks.

Christmas Card Project

Stamped Christmas cards are taken to the jail and distributed to the inmates so they can write Christmas messages to family members. You can give your cards to me or place them in the green basket near the front doors of First Baptist Church, Kentwood. You will be helping to bless families in a simple, but special way.

  • Purchase Christmas cards, religious ones if possible.
  • Place the cards in the envelopes
  • Place a stamp on each envelope
  • Turn in. (I’ll make the delivery to the jail.)
  • Deadline – December 7th

Churches tend to be mission minded and involved in a number of projects. Get involved and find the one(s) that you want to support with you time, funds, etc.

Thankfulness – Day 17

Today, I am thankful for all those who volunteer to pack “Shoeboxes” for the Samaritan’s Purse ministry, Operation Christmas Child. It takes so much time to train, shop, sort, document, fill, ship, and pray over and over again for the shoebox items, the lengthy process at each church, and from each church, through several important destinations before they reach the hands of the boys and girls. God really had a great plan to involve many people in missions. If you talk with a few people who are involved in the process, you will be amazed by their dedication and enthusiasm.

It’s only one way to “tell about Jesus”, but it is a great one that impacts many young lives each year. I hope that if you, your church, your school, your business will get involved if you are not already in this missions ministry.

Until tomorrow . . . .

Prayer Focus

Today, pray for those on your prayer list and thank God he allows us the wonderful privilege of talking with Him at any time we choose.

“Always be Ready”

“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

“And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom [a]is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.

11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour [b]in which the Son of Man is coming.

Religious Christmas Cards and Religious Stamps for Prisoners

If you are out-and-about today, maybe you can purchase Christmas cards for inmates that we will deliver to the jail for you. You are requested to put the cards in the envelopes and stamps on the envelopes. Please turn the cards in at the December 6th WMU meeting at Spring Creek or by December 7th at FBC, Kentwood. The cards will be promptly delivered to the jail so they can be sent out to family members in time to Christmas. I know families will be thrilled to hear from a family member unable to attend Christmas family gatherings.

Operation Christmas Child

I often talk about churches packing large numbers of shoeboxes, but I want to invite you to pack boxes on your own too. They can be dropped off at FBC, Kentwood just like the others. Be sure to check back on here or in the Samaritan’s Purse site for the times to turn them in. Boxes packed by individuals receive the same treatment and travel along with those in large groups. Ar the end of their journey, they will be in the hands of a boy or girl somewhere to tell the child and extended family about Jesus and to provide the child with toys, school supplies, etc. For each box you pack you are being a missionary who tells approximately ten others about Jesus.

Don’t forget to prepare your Sunday School lesson from Deuteronomy 28th.

Today, I want to share a quote by Avery D. Miller.

“Hope is patiently waiting espectantly for the intangible to become reality.”

Sometimes a person has to wait a long time. Be patient and wait anyway.

May you be both blessed and a blessing to others today!

FRIDAY

Thankfulness

Today, I want to begin with something else I am thankful for. I am thankful for the many Bible studies I have been through and many opportunities to learn more and more through reading the Bible and hearing sermons. I was going through some books yesterday and found lots of Bible studies I have completed. I wish I could remember every fact I have studied, but that was never a reality. I’ll continue to read and study.

Eddie was born March 28, 1952, in New Orleans, and passed peacefully, surrounded by family, and has gone to his eternal home with God on November 10, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. He was a resident of Folsom. Eddie was a member of First Baptist Church, Ponchatoula, where he served on the Board of Deacons and was a dedicated choir member where singing was his ministry, and he used his voice to praise God. He was also a member of Red Stick Sound, a men’s acapella group that met weekly. He was a graduate of Acadia Baptist Academy in Eunice and attended Southeastern Louisiana University. Eddie retired as a supervisor with the Louisiana State Department of Children and Family Services. Verse of the Day

Thankfulness – Day 13

Today, I am thankful to be a local in small town America. I love knowing how to get around without a map and for knowing people who own and/or employed by many and varied businesses. I like to see green grass and trees, not buildings and highways everywhere. I like knowing people who are first responders, medical workers, clerks in many stores, teachers, and being able to worship God with many people I know. I enjoy knowing neighbors and knowing many people who would be willing to help me, if called upon. I love being able to check on people I know and knowing people when their names are on a prayer list. Yes, I am very thankful to live in my portion of America.
