Dollie Frazier‘s biopsies went well yesterday.  She was no pain, but has to wait a week for results.  Pray the week goes quickly for her and the results are good.

 

 

 

Make preparations now for the COLD weather we are predicted to have next Tuesday.  Pray for and help people who are not pared for the cold weather we will soon be facing.

 

 

 

Shoeboxes will be collected November 18-25.  It’s not too late to pack some boxes!  If you would like to pack a box, I will supply you with a box.  Let me know before Sunday and I will give you one then.

Thankfulness, Day 8 – Today, I am thankful to have modern transportation which allows me to live in the area I choose to live in.  I’m not a horse and buggy person like my ancestors who lived here years ago.  I’m thankful for the greater distances we can drive in order to see doctors, take quiet afternoon rides, visit family and friends, etc.  I fly when necessary, but not lately.

Josiah (Home Monday)

We are finally home!!! It was quite a stressful day yesterday waiting to be discharged…and it’s a bit of a long story but they were finally able to discharge us around 6pm last night. It feels so good to all be under the same roof again! Josiah was so excited to be home & he fell asleep watching us unload his stuff.
•
After 23 days in hospital for what started out as tracheitis and rhinovirus and then he ended up with Norovirus…we will definitely be doing “winter lock down”. We wish this wasn’t necessary but this was a big reminder for us that although he is doing really well, common illnesses can hit him REALLY hard.

I admire Job and KK so much!  They eagerly took on all the challenges of his medical needs.  I was thrilled to again read their closing statement, “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!”  I’m thrilled the doctors were able to get Josiah well again.  I know you are too.

 

 

 

Thankfulness, Day 6 – Today I am thankful for young parents like these who have a strong faith and big hearts.  May they be a shining example of daily Christian living to young parents and to others.  “To God be the glory!”

Today, I want to share an update on David.  It took a year to learn his two issues – MDA,  red blood cells not producing enough blood, and non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver.  We don’t know the causes of these diseases, but David has been very sick.  With good medical treatment at Ochsner, he has greatly improved.

I’ve been saying he is the best he has been since the first problems showed up.  Yesterday, we got two good reports.  David is doing more than “hanging in there”.  He feels and looks much better!  The two medical professionals we saw yesterday acknowledged he is doing well, not cured, but better than expected.

His blood level yesterday was 10, higher than it has been since he got sick.  He is in the “low normal range” and was not given Procrit for the first time in many weeks.  He has received 23 units of blood, but none have been needed in about four months.  His liver is doing well.  We go back in three months.  If all continues to do well, he will be put on a six month schedule for his liver.

I want to thank God for David’s improvement.  He has carried us through!  I also want to thank many of you who have him on your daily prayer list.  We are appreciative of all of you who tell us he has been prayed for daily.  Please continue too do so.

 

Thankfulness – Day 5 – Today, I am thankful for the wonderful improvement in David’s health.  Thanks to God for walking with us on the good days and the very difficult days.  Thanks to you for your prayers for David (and me).

 

 

 

John Pierce

January 06, 1966 – November 02, 2019

John Murray Pierce, born in 1966 in New Orleans, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Amite, LA on November 2, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Murray Pierce and Dorothy Fowler Pierce. His grandparents were Basil and Myrtle ‘Snooks’ Pierce, Albert Floyd, and Alma Fowler. He leaves behind the love of his life, Anissa Pourciau; her son, Gene Pourciau; and beloved dogs Trigger, Hammer, Shooter, and Bullet. He was the youngest sibling of J. Michael Pierce (Teresa), Natchitoches, LA; Brenda Pierce Falanga (James), Metairie, LA; Patti Pierce, Kentwood, LA; and Sandy Pierce Shows (Marshall), Brandon, MS. He also left two nieces (Lisa Falanga Davis and Sarah Shows Odom) and four nephews (Joseph Babin, Jeffrey Falanga, Justin Tyler Pierce and Cameron Shows). John was employed by Smitty’s Supply, Inc., for over 15 years, working in Amite, LA, Shreveport, LA, and Jasper, TX. John graduated from Jewel Sumner High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete. A member of Lewiston Baptist Church, he was a wonderful friend who loved his family and was a master at cooking crawfish for the annual Pierce crawfish boil. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding his Arctic Cat with his dogs, family and friends; and getting firewood, building wood racks, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He trained horses and raised many dogs that he loved. He was passionate about football, LSU and Saints! During his time with Interstate Batteries he enjoyed attending many Nascar races and was a big fan of Bobby Labonte. John will be greatly missed.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Lewiston Baptist Church on November 12 (visitation at 9:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewiston Baptist Church, 74576 N. Lewiston Road, Kentwood, LA 70444.

 

 

 

Rev. Kenneth Istre moved to his heavenly home.  We have know him a long time and always enjoyed our brief visits with him at Mike’s Catfish Inn.  He was one of three preachers who attended our wedding as a friend.  One of his daughters shared this information.

Hi friends and family. Update: still seeing doctors. I saw Dr. liner and he is doing biopsy of arteries in my temples next Thursday to see if infections are there. After that I will have Sleep test done.
I wait on The Lord and be patient. God is so good and I will always Praise His Holy Name.

Penny Easley Strong, a resident of Amite, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 10, 1954 in Independence and was 65 years of age. Vernon E Crotwell

JULY 11, 1948 ~ OCTOBER 30, 2019 (AGE 71)

 

Mr. Vernon Crotwell, age 71, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019.  Visitation will be held Friday, November 1, 2019 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 12:00pm until 1:45pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Services, in Morton, MS with services following at 2:00pm in Ott and Lee Services Chapel.  Officiating will be Reverend Earl Clark and Reverend Gary Wyatt.  Burial will follow at Independence Methodist Cemetery, in Morton, MS.

Vernon was born July 11, 1948 in Morton, MS.  He graduated from Morton High School in 1966.  He then attended East Central Community College and received a bachelor’s degree in 1972 from Delta State College.  Vernon was a kicker for the Morton Panthers and went on to kick for the East Central Warriors.  One of his most memorable football moments was kicking the winning extra point for the Panthers against the Bearcats his senior season.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbye R. and Frank Duncan and stepson, Derek Hudson.  Vernon is survived by his wife, Linda Crotwell of Morton, MS; his sons, Stan Crotwell of Forest, MS and Steven (Christy) Crotwell of Morton, MS; stepdaughter, Gera (Vince) Bynum of Morton, MS; sister, Becky (Cooper) Beard of Morton, MS; grandsons, Nicholas Crotwell and Hudson Bynum; granddaughters, Madison, Ema, Julia, Kimberly, and Katie Crotwell, Macy and Alley Hudson, and Adrian Hall; nieces, Jessica Burkes and Jerami Earls; nephew, Duncan Beard.

After graduating college, Vernon returned to Morton to assist coaching the Panthers before moving to Amite, LA, where he coached the Jackets of Oak Forest Academy.  In 1976, he became an insurance agent for Farm Bureau until his retirement in 2013.  Throughout his successful insurance career, he amassed numerous awards and honors.

Vernon was a strong supporter of education and athletics.  He served many years as president of the Morton Panther Booster Club.  He also served 29 years on the Board of Trustees for East Central Community College.

Vernon had a great love of the outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting the woods of Caney Creek and Vicksburg with his uncles, cousins, and his boys.  You could even catch him hunting with a granddaughter or two.

This time of year , filled with family and football, was a favorite for Vernon.  He could be found cheering on the Panthers, the Ole Miss Rebels, and his grandson at ERA.  Papaw, as his family knew him, loved his Nana and they together loved being surrounded by their many children and grandchildren.

In his later years, Vernon enjoyed talking politics and drinking coffee with the best guys in town at Sam’s Diner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Butch McLemore, Charlie Stroud, John Callahan, Buford Palmer, Tommy Harrell, Gaines Massey, Bert Atkison, Bobby Mitchner, Bill Rogers, and Billy Frank Alford.

Pallbearers will be Duncan Beard, Hudson Bynum, Vince Bynum, Nicholas Crotwell, Tom Geter, James (Spunky) Hawkins, David Livingston, and Nathan Wade.

 

 

 

Ronald Thomas Sessions

September 05, 1942 – October 30, 2019

Ronald Thomas Sessions, a resident of Independence, LA, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at his home. He was born September 5, 1942 in Baton Rouge, LA and was 77 years of age. He was a US Army Veteran of Vietnam and pipefitter for Union Local #198 in Baton Rouge for 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Z. Update on Josiah Huckaby

😎 How the cool kids watch TV in the hospital…you must have at least 1 arm & leg hanging out of the rails.

Josiah is back on his home vent settings & doing great with that! He’s down to 1L of oxygen. They are pretty sure the increased vent settings were due to his dehydration. We also found the cause of his GI issues. He tested positive for Norovirus. They said sometimes it just lingers a long time for some people. We tried to swap him back to our regular amount of water flushes we give at home but his labs went in the wrong direction. He also lost the 0.5 LB he had gained back over the last couple of days. They are putting him back on the increased water to see if that will correct the issue again. Once his electrolyte labs are stabilized we can go home! They are thinking early next week at the latest. To God be the glory!!!

 

 

 

Pray for Jimmy and Linda Williams  of Spring Creek.  Their youngest son, Rusty, passed away yesterday.  Rusty is no longer needs his wheelchair!

Carol B. Sealey‘s Update:

I want to thank everyone for all the prayers, phone calls, and text messages these past several months. I know Barbara Bennett Gaines has been keeping everyone updated on my condition but I wanted to update what’s going on. Back on May 21st I had surgery for colon cancer and then the nightmare began. After being sent home I developed abdominal Sepsis. I was put back in the hospital and put on antibiotics. After being sent back home, without any medication, I again came down with severe sepsis with septic shock. Everything in my body was shutting down. I was dependent on dialysis due to end stage renal disease. The doctors told my husband that he had to make a decision because I was never coming out of ICU. After Steve talked to our son and my sister he decided no, he wasn’t giving up. These doctors didn’t know that I have a higher doctor than they are and he wasn’t ready for me yet because all of a sudden I was coming back. There was so many folks, some I knew and others I didn’t know, praying for me. As of today I am cancer free, off of dialysis after being on it for nearly 3 months, kidneys all of a sudden kicked in and started working. I was in a wheelchair when I left the hospital because I could not feel my legs and could not walk. As of today I am walking with a walker inside the house but have to use a wheelchair outside. I still have a ways to go but each day is a little better. My God is awesome. Without him I wouldn’t be here today.

 

 

 

Update on Josiah Huckaby:

It did my heart good to walk in & see little man laughing this morning!!! He’s only given us some brief smiles over the last week. Sunday & Monday were good days!!! They were able to wean his oxygen from 4L to 2L. When he gets to 1.5L, we can start weaning his vent pressures back to home settings. He’s still having quite a bit of GI issues so they are running some extra tests to make sure we aren’t missing anything. They have swapped him from our regular feed schedule to a continuous feed (which means he is getting a small amount of formula all day) in hopes that the lower rate/volume will be less stressful on his stomach until the problem is resolved. We have no idea how much longer we will be here but praise the Lord we are finally headed in the right direction!!! To God be the glory! Job Huckaby

Robert George Hyde;

Born August 1, 1938, went to be with our lord on Monday, October 28, 2019 atthe age of 81 years. Bobby, as he was known to all, was born in Hammond,Louisiana, first born son of Jesse George (Doc) and Daisy Fitzgerald Hyde. Hewas a member and deacon at Bedico Baptist Church and a member of The GideonsInternational for more than 30 years. Bobby was a third generation butcher andowner of Hyde Packing Company, a rancher, cattle buyer, lifetime member andformer president of Louisiana Cattleman’s Association, and a lifetime member ofthe National Rifle Association.
He loved and owned many animals-a variety of bovines including Cross Breeds,Long Horns, Watusi and Buffalo, together with Horses, Goats, Sheep, Deer,Peacocks and even a Bear named Lucy. He was also known for the many varietiesof muscadines he grew.
Bobby is survived by his beloved childhood sweetheart and wife of 63 years,Janice Coumes Hyde; by daughters Fern Hyde Tricou and husband Scott, Robin HydeBrady and husband Derek; and by son, Robert Jesse Hyde and wife Brigette;grandchildren, Ashton Montana Brady, Robert Beau Derek Brady, Irma Shelby Hyde;sisters, JoAnn Hyde Johnson (Douglas), Nancy Carol Hyde Baham (Curtis);brother, Norman Carl Hyde (Gertie); together with many, nieces, nephews,cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse George (Doc) and DaisyFitzgerald Hyde; and grandparents, George J. and Augustine Baret Hyde, RobertThorn and Bertha Dutruch Fitzgerald.

A resident of Tickfaw, LA, passed away on Monday, October 28,2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 19, 1948 in Baton Rouge, LA and was 71 years of age. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of Vietnam. He is survived by 1 daughter, Rebecca Miller Crowe and husband, Allen, Tickfaw, LA; 3 sons, Tod Miller and wife, Alisa, Kentwood, LA, Brad Miller and wife, Kim, Liberty, MS and Mike Miller and wife, Julie, Amite, LA; mother of his children, Barbara Sue King; step-children, Lisa McDaniel Thacker and husband, Corbin, Russ McDaniel and wife, Shay; 12 grandchildren, Destiny, Burgandy, Allen, Jr., Emily, Ali, Brittany, Tyler, Skyler, Chase, Lawson, Miguel and Faith; great-grandson, Wade;1 brother, Kenneth Wayne Miller and wife, Paula , Amite, LA; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Eloise Johnson Miller; brother, Randal Miller; parents, Ernest and Lela Mae Durbin Miller. Visitation at House on the Rock Church, Amite, from 9:00AM until religious services at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Services conducted by Pastor Jeff McKneely.
