Doris Helen Parish (Courtney)

September 30, 1926 – February 12, 2019

Doris Helen Courtney Parish, 92, a resident of Greensburg and former resident of Jackson, LA, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Mandeville. She was retired from East Louisiana State Hospital with 27 plus years of service. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Second Baptist Church in Jackson, LA from 10:00 am until service time at 12noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Doris is survived by her children, Linda Whittington Smith(Ray), Jim Partin(Melissa), Fae Lee, John Parish(Terry), Claude Parish(Pam), Homer Parish(Glenda), Phyllis Parish Bryant(John), Mary Anne Parish Newman, 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Courtney, sons and daughter in law, Jerry and Thelma Whittington, Paul Partin and Billy Aucoin, 4 brothers and 1 sister. She was a 1943 graduate of McKowen High School.
Pallbearers will be Brantley Newman, Matthew Bryant, Keaton Ellis, TJ Hartley, Adam Parish and Alex Parish. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research in Memphis, TN.

Please pray for Cora Morris of Amite.  She has had one problem after another.  The broken ankle has taken her from home to PAM Specialty with the next stop being Landmark.

So, it’s with a very heavy, heavy, heart that I tell you that my Mom, Cora Morris, is in PAM Specialty Hospital of Hammond for 3-5 days before being transported to Landmark Skilled Nursing Facility where she will stay until she has fully recuperated from breaking her ankle! Prayers are certainly appreciated but, most of all, she needs visits and phone calls from her friends and family while she’s away from home so she doesn’t feel alone or forgotten!! Cheryl Hart Pierre, a resident of Loranger, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Hammond Nursing Home in Hammond. She was born July 10, 1947 in Independence and was 71 years of age. She is survived by 2 daughters, Michelle Carrier and husband, Ronnie, and Kris Pierre; grandchildren, Jordan Carrier and fiance’, MaKayla Norred; great-grandson, Ruston Carrier; sisters, Patti Tyler and husband, Tim, Fay Raborn and husband, Bobby, Jo Ann Karst and husband, Dr. Charles Karst, and Carol Hart; brother, Herbert Hart; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jule W. Wascom

August 22, 1931 – February 10, 2019

A resident of Greensburg passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born August 22, 1931 in Greensburg and was 87 years of age. He was a retired Bridge Supervisor for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and served as a Sheriff’s Deputy for 56 years with the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is survived by his 3 sons, Jule Charles Wascom and wife, Dottie, Tom Ed Wasom and wife, Anita, and Ricky Wascom and wife, Glenda; grandchildren, Scotty, Robby, Bobby, Jaime, Ryan, and Rusty; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Imogene Wascom. Preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Dean Alford Wascom; parents, Thomas and Mollie Travis Wascom. I know many people are facing difficult times now.  I want so include some special Scripture that I hope will give comfort and encouragement.  Claim and cling to any and all that speak to you heart.

 

  •  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Romans 12:12

  •  I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

  • May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13

  • The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 13:8

Fred Bernard Bourgoyne

January 31, 1934 – February 06, 2019

Fred Bernard Bourgoyne passed away at his home in Kentwood, La. surrounded by family members on February 6, 2019. Born January 31, 1934 in Plaquemine, La. to Matthew and Anona Neff Bourgoyne. He owned and operated Fred’s Body Shop in Kentwood La. for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angelena Sagnibene Bourgoyne. Two sons, Fred Bourgoyne, Jr. and wife, Stacie Bourgoyne of Denham Springs, David Bourgoyne and close friend, Jennifer Ard, of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Sherry Pigott and husband, Pat; six grandchildren, Traci Giannoble and husband, Tony, of Hammond, Brad Bourgoyne and wife, Monica, of Hammond, Christian Bourgoyne of Baton Rouge, Christina Bourgoyne of Holden, Jennifer James of Denham Springs and Britney Mounts and husband, Paul, of Zachary; seven great grandchildren, Gavin and Grant Giannoble, Conner Bourgoyne, Payton and Tyler Pigott, Jaxn Tillman, and James Windgate, Jr.; numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his father, Matthew Bourgoyne; mother, Anona Neff Bourgoyne; three brothers, Norris, Robert, and Matthew Bourgoyne, Jr.; two sisters, Bertie Denham and Carolyn Ard. Other family members, sisters in law, Jean Sagnibene Ransom and her late husband, Randy, Marie Sagnibene Russell and her husband, Kenneth (Skip), late brother in law, Frank Sagnibene. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 12:00 Noon conducted by Fr. Mark Beard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Full of Grace, P. O. Box 1647, Amite, LA, 70422.

Yesterday, David saw a doctor who changed some of his medications because of problems David was experiencing.  Next week, we will have doctor appointments on three or four days.  Looking at that with a positive attitude, the different doctors get to evaluate him multiple times next week.  Another good thing, is that some of these appointments are in Hammond, not Baton Rouge.  David has been recommended for home health.  It’s in the paperwork approval stage.  Thanks for your continued prayers.

 

 

Bernice Martin Travis

March 24, 1926 – January 31, 2019

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg, LA. She was born March 24, 1926 in St. Helena, LA and was 92 years of age. She was a retired LPN from LA War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA and also a retired dairy farmer. She is survived by 2 daughters, Faye Marcus and David, and Kathy Travis; Kim Richard and Ken; 1 son, Alan Travis and Avonia; 1 sister, Frances Robbins and Ronnie; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Wilson Claude Travis; sister, Belle Felker; parents, Preston and Laura Martin. Visitation at First Baptist Church of Arcola from 9:00 a.m until religious services at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019. Services conducted by Rev. Bob Simpson. Pray for David as we seek to see a doctor in Hammond today.   David has had  more company lately.  He is certainly enjoying seeing his friends.

 

 

 

These two funerals, in addition to the Crawford funeral, will make it three funerals Saturday at 11 A.M. in our area.

 

Julius Kent Raiford

September 28, 1930 – January 31, 2019

Julius Kent Raiford, age, 88 a native of Ponchatoula and long-time resident of Arcola died peacefully at home on January 31, 2019. He was a Korean War Veteran who served as a Corporal in the United States Army. He returned to Ponchatoula to become a strawberry farmer. After farming, he began working for the United States Department of Agriculture. Eventually, he became an investigator for enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act. In 1964, he married Floyce Bracey Houeye and they resided in Arcola where he enjoyed his hobby of raising produce. He was a loving husband and father. After 34 years of service, he retired in 1993 from the U.S.D.A. He enjoyed his hobbies and being an Elder in the Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church. Floyce passed away in 2012. In 2016, he married Joyce Jenkins Doody, and they continued to reside in Arcola. He is preceded in death by his parents, Corrine and Carlos Raiford; 1 sister, 5 brothers, and his first wife. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Raiford; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Simeon Bankston. He has 2 grandchildren and their families: Tiffany and Brad Currier and their children, Turner and Tate; Tabitha and Jesse Blades and their daughter, Halle. Also, step-children: Roger and Leigh Doody and their sons, Cameron and Connor; and Tracie and Robert Coon and their children, Caitlin, Mary Rogers, and Will. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and church family as he served as an Elder in the church for many years. The family would like to express our gratitude to his sitter, Gloria Williams, and New Century Hospice. Their excellent care and compassion during his final illness is greatly appreciated. Visitation will be at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9:00AM until religious services at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Services conducted by Rev. Hawley Wolfe. Doris Hutchinson Travis

August 25, 1926 – January 30, 2019

A limb has fallen from our family tree. On the afternoon of January 30, 2019, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was reunited with our heavenly father. She was 92 years old and a life long resident of the Pine Ridge Community in St. Helena Parish. She retired from the St. Helena Parish Health Unit with 40 years of service where she prided herself on helping many people in the community. Her love of family and friends brought much joy to her life. Nanny’s longevity could be attributed to her time shared with her children, grandchildren, and especially her great grandchildren. She was a true farmer’s wife, who loved all things on the farm, the rye grass and cows, her beautiful rose garden, and feeding the hummingbirds. She was a wonderful cook who shared many recipes, but her favorite was her “Nanny Cake”. Her legacy includes family functions, Easter Egg Hunts, seafood gumbo, pool parties, and dove hunts. She is survived by her children, Terry and Dell Travis, Betty and Lynn Day, and Marilyn Taylor; her grandchildren and spouses, Melissa Day, Travis Day, Ryan and Beth Travis, Anna Maria and Trey Bullinger, Courtney and Michael Passman, and Holly Travis Chaney; her great grandchildren, Blase and Bella Taylor, Emma and John Travis Day, George Taylor and Lawson Bullinger, Michael Charles and Dayne Passman, Alice and Georgia Travis, Cierra, Candace, Chelsea, and Carley James, and Courtney Alexander, Sean and Sarah Kimball, Reagan Kimball, and Mattie Chaney; special friend, Jenny Dawson. Reunited in heaven with her husband of 64 years, Clyde “Billy” Travis, son in law, Randy Taylor grandchildren, Angela Kimball, Brantley Taylor, and Brent Travis; parents, Cleon and Mattie Smith Hutchinson; and a brother, Cleon Hutchinson Jr. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019 from 6:00PM until 9:00M at Pine Ridge United Methodist Church, 3893 Hwy 440, Kentwood, LA. Visitation will resume on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9:00AM until religious services at 11:00AM. Dr. Rev. Michael Townsend will be conducting the services. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
