Tuesday

“If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it.

Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live.”

~Mark 8:35 TLB~

Today, I want to start by saying we got a great rain yesterday.  I know God’s timing is always right, so I am thankful it was our turn to get some rain.

Josiah Huckaby

Josiah is definitely feeling better today. He’s been awake way more today than yesterday. He is still requiring quite a bit of oxygen but I feel like he’s kind of stabled out with that for now. The PICU dr today feels most of his symptoms are viral vs infection. He did test positive for rhinovirus, which is very common. Most kids don’t even know they have it but for kids like Josiah, it can cause some major issues. They have also narrowed down which bacteria is growing in his trach so we know exactly what he needs to be treated with. The current plan is to discharge when he gets back to his normal 0.5 L of oxygen. We have no clue when that will be. I figure at least another day or so because he’s currently on 3 L with his sats are hanging out at the lower end of his allowed range.

And if you were curious about what he’s up to, here’s a pic…he’s just hanging out with his feet propped up, watching Disney Jr while playing with his toy. 😎

Two Time Changes

  • On Nov. 3rd, we change our clocks back one hour.  Do something special for one hour that day with the extra hour.
  • The Operation Christmas Child Packing Party at FBC, Kentwood will begin at 1 P.M., rather than 6 P.M.  We will be able to pack the shoeboxes and finish at a more reasonable time.

“Shoeboxes” – If you want to pack a shoebox(es) as a family project, please let me know.  (You can message me here, see me at church, or give me a call at home.) I can provide you with a red and green official box(es).  You still have a month to pack them, so it is not too late.  FBC, Kentwood packs their boxes early so we can prepare to be a drop-off site in November.

Postage for Shoeboxes – It costs $9.00 to ship each box.  As of the end of last week, we had collected about 70% of the amount we need to ship the FBC boxes.  You can give in the church office any day or put your donation in the offering plate Sunday morning if you choose to do so.  Thanks to those who have helped with postage.  You are greatly appreciated!

Monday

“What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven!

What joys when sins are covered over!

What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record.”

 ~Psalm 32:1-2 TLB~

Today, I want to thank God for another good medical report from Frances Gay.  She has been faithful and so has He!

Two mothers ask for prayers for their children.

  • K.K. Huckaby – Josiah was admitted to Le Bonheur last night. He started having increased secretions yesterday morning & they quickly started looking funky around lunch. They didn’t improve into the afternoon & he had a low grade fever earlier in the day. He also started requiring more oxygen so we decided to play it safe & head to Le Bonheur. Long story short…God put the right people in the right places for us & we were taken straight back in the ER. They ran a bunch of test & he was negative for flu/rsv but he does have tracheitis. We are still waiting for the final reports to see which bacteria has caused this infection but they started him on IV antibiotics & will adjust them as we learn more. They are concerned about his pulmonary hypertension & pulmonary vein stenosis because he is requiring more oxygen so we will be seeing Cardiology tomorrow to see what their thoughts are. We are praying he can get some good rest tonight & that his coughing goes away. We are also praying that they figure out specifics quickly so he can get a more targeted therapy instead of a broad therapy and that this infection hasn’t or doesn’t cause his pulmonary hypertension to increase. We greatly appreciate your prayers! To God be the glory!!!
  • Dana Hendry – Thank you all. We had bloodwork, some tests and a ct scan. Negative on mono and strep. But ct showed many swollen lymph nodes. She will be on steroids and antibiotics the next week to see if that knocks it out. We will follow up with the doctor and ent next week.                                                                                          Please keep chanie in your prayers please thank you so much!!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks to those who supported shoeboxes by providing postage.  Postage is $9.00 per shoebox.  If you didn’t contribute to the items inside the box, maybe you would like to provide the shipping of some boxes.  Remember, each shoebox touches seven lives!

Our  “shoebox” packing party will be Saturday, October 26 at 6 P.M. in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.  You are encouraged to wear Christmas colors and to bring a Christmas snack to share with the other packers.  This is an awesome experience for all who participate.  I cannot tell you, but if you participate your heart will be touched.

“For to me, to live is Christ

David had lab work, saw a NP, and got his weekly injection of Procrit yesterday.  The good news is that his blood level held at 8.6, which is good for him.  As always, we are so thankful for your prayers.  Please feel free to continue to pray for us.

Jonathan Edward Serigne

Jonathan Edward Serigne, AKA Batman, took final flight October 4, 2019. As a Holy Cross alumnus of 2001, he made it just in time to get the best seats for the hundredth game against Jesuit. Jonathan always lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. His infectious smile, confident personality, and caring demeanor attracted friendships everywhere he went. Even in his final days, he kept a smile on his face. Along with Holy Cross, he loved his LSU tigers, Nicholls Colonels, fraternity TKE and Saints. He leaves behind a wife, Randi Rousseau Serigne, two children, Jacques and Stella Serigne, his father and mother, Jack and Bonnie Serigne, brother and sister, Jack Serigne III and Stephanie Kostopoulos, and dozens upon dozens of grieving and loving family and friends. Losing him has left a void in all of us and is apparent by the number of people who’ve prayed and reached out to him. Just like Batman, he has one super power, he never gave up! He fought to stay with those who loved him till the very end. We all hope to see him again, as Jonathan would say, “same bat time, same bat channel.” Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private. To celebrate and honor the life of Jonathan, the family requests guests wear their favorite Batman inspired attire.

(Jonathan is the son-in-law of our friend, Darryl Rousseau of Ponchatoula.)

Monday

Sleep didn’t come my way, so I am up tonight writing this for Monday.  If you are awake too, please pray I will be able to sleep some soon.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.

Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

If you do this, you will experience God’s peace.”

I want to mention three people to you tonight.

  • Smiley Conerly will be seeing a pulmonologist tomorrow.
  • Bryan Tate is in MD Anderson in Houston.
  • Ruby Dillon had a good day Sunday, the best day since she has been home from  the hospital.

Saturday

Seek the LORD while he may be found;

call on him while he is near.

~Isaiah 55:6 (NIV)~

I’m writing this shortly before mid-night, but calling it “Saturday”.

About 6 P.M., we received a rain for a few minutes.  David asked me it I wanted to go out and watch it rain.  I told him it wouldn’t rain long enough for that.  He started out.  At that moment, the rain stopped.  I’m hope we get rain over the weekend that lasts longer, but I am thankful for the rain we received.

Scripture Writing – October 4 – I Timothy 6: 11-13

I have no idea how many students took their Bibles to school yesterday, but for each one who did, I am thankful.  I’m even more thankful for the students who attend church each week and read their Bible.  It’s important that each one makes a choice to follow Jesus.

We have almost painted enough shoeboxes.  Tomorrow, we will be working from 8:00-11:00 A.M. to finish up.  Our packing party is three weeks from tomorrow.  Let me know if you will be available to help finish the preparations.  Mark you calendar for the last Saturday of the month so you won’t miss the packing party!  We always have a great time as we put all the items in the boxes and prepare for shipping.

Thanks for your many prayers.  Please continue to pray for Jonathan and his family each night at 8:30.  Thanks!

Bring Your Bible to School Day

 And this is love:

that we walk in obedience to his commands.

As you have heard from the beginning,

his command is that you walk in love.

~2 John 1:6~

Today, our students are encouraged to “Bring Your Bible to School”.

Jan Hammons sent me an update on Jonathan Sarigne.  He is a little better, but needs to improve some more to get chemo.  The family asks you to continue to pray for him at 8:30 each night.  He is 36.

Smiley Conerly’s cardiologist said Smiley’s problem is not his heart, so they are continuing to search for answers.  Pray for Smiley and his family as they deal with the uncertainly of now knowing what problem is the root of his illness.

My childhood neighbor and life-long friend, Mrs. Juanita Pritchett, passed away.  She had three boys and lived next to us, a family with three girls.  She has been hospitalized a number of times in Greensburg where we were able to see her.  I visited her last year at her home and bought some Roseland cookbooks.  Recently, David and I saw her in Walmart.  She said her boys were good to her, but just didn’t buy the groceries she wanted, so she drove herself to the store and was shopping for what she wanted to cook.  She had some real tragedies in her life, but never let them get the best of her.  I’m glad I knew her!  One more thing, she was exactly a year older than my mother.
