“God, hear my prayer;

listen to the words of my mouth.”

~Psalm 54:2, HCSB~

Mr. James Miller may get to come home today.  Keep him in your prayers though.

Pray for Freida Jones.  She has a heart problem and a new issue, cancer.  Decisions will soon need to be made about surgery.  She could use our prayer support.

Flo Hatcher had a tough day yesterday.  As you pray for her, also pray for those who help care for her.

Lisa Pitre will be having surgery today.  She would certainly appreciate your prayers.

Monday

These are the things you are to do:

Speak the truth to each other,

and render true and sound judgment in your courts;

~Zechariah 8:16~

Please continue to pray for Mrs. Bonnie McMillan, Mrs. Catherine Yarborough, and Mr. James Miller who continue to be at North Oaks.

A number of people are dealing with illness and tests to diagnose problems.  One is Mrs. Velma Anthony who has been sick for several weeks now.  Please add her to your prayer list.
Mrs. Bessie Hayden has been sick for several weeks.  Yesterday, she made special efforts and attended church.  Pray she will soon be feeling better.
The Frozen Food for Families was delivered yesterday.  It was greatly appreciated.

Greenlaw Baptist Church is having revival.  Some of you may want to attend.  Each night begins with supper at 5:00.  The supper is provided by the church.

The Lord’s Church will host the annual associational meeting next Sunday evening.  Members of all area churches are invited to attend.  The service begins at 6 P.M.  If you wish to sing in the associational choir, you will need to be there earlier.

I just received a message from a lady who told me she made purchases for Operation Christmas Child and where she left them for me to find.  I certainly appreciate each person who helps.  What a blessing we receive when we give to such worthy causes!

Yesterday, as we prepared to leave church, a father and daughter stopped me to ask about what the daughter could purchase for Operation Christmas Child.  I gave them my thoughts.  Last night, the daughter called to tell me what she purchased and said she would be able to get more things.  She also told me she would be a part of packing the shoeboxes.  That’s the way you feel about OCC.  You cannot do enough to help pack the shoeboxes.  I’m thankful for that father who came with his daughter to talk with me and who encouraged her to be on the giving side of this project.  She is so blessed to have family members to encourage her young heart in the right direction.

Let’s allow the change in the weather be an encouragement to change something we do. There might be a bad habit that needs to disappear or a new one we need to develop.  This is a great time of the year!  We can make it even better by making some positive changes in our lives.

Please pray for Mr. James Miller.  He fell yesterday and wound up in North Oaks because of anemia.  Pray doctors will locate his problem and help him to feel better.

Mr. Philip Harrell is recovering from a round of pneumonia, but “Miss” Annie Bell is doing fairly well.  Keep them in your prayers.

Continue to pray for the Hellen Morris family as she prepares to move to her eternal home.

Dan Turner’s Update

Howdy all!

I had my second titration of my Baclofen dose today.  Using the same equipment as before, my H & M reflexes were tested, and were found to be much improved.  However, based on the objective data and how I’m feeling, subjectively, the dose was increased from 100 to 140 micrograms per day.  I will return next Thursday for further assessment.  Things are going well so far and although I’m not done yet, I am feeling better and better with each passing day.  I can truly see progress now!  Thanks for the continued prayers and God bless you all.

And the Lord added to the church daily

those who were being saved.”

Are we steadfastly doing the same things?

Today, let’s pray for various age groups in our churches.  As you pray, you can name some people in each age group and the names of the people in your church who work with them.  Then, start over and name some people in each age group who do not attend church.  I think you have a lot to pray for today!

Sherry Day is hospitalized.  I didn’t know yesterday how to explain the situation, so today I’m sharing what she wrote.

Just wanted everyone to know that I am ok. Thanks for all the prayers. I had cellulitis in my arm and the infection had spread
further in the body. Needed IV antibiotics to clear up infection. Thanks again for all prayers and concerns. God bless all.

Mrs. Glenda McKean fell and broke a leg just above the ankle.  She seems to be a very busy lady, but this may slow her down temporarily.  Pray for her and her family.

Jay Holloway,  a high school junior and QB for Copiah Academy was killed in a one car accident on the way to school yesterday.  As you pray for the family, please include prayers for the faculty and students of the school.

Flo Hatcher (Written by daughter, Julee)

When you are saying prayers before bed tonight, please say extra prayers for my mom Flo Hatcher. She had the procedure today to cut off blood supply to tumor and she made it fine, but I guess the medication is messing with her. She’s very confused and scared tonight. She usually lets us leave, but tonight she called her sister Carol New to go back and she is going to sleep with her. I will be back at 7 am and surgery is sometime after 11 tomorrow. This roller coaster just won’t end and it’s not fun at all….. Pray my momma gets some fight and some relief….

Lisa Carruth came through surgery with great news.  The lymph nodes are all clear!  Thank you for praying for her.  Please pray as Lisa recovers and learns what the doctors say is ahead of her.

Rufus Williams has had gall bladder surgery at North Oaks.  Please pray for him and his little family as he recovers.  (Rufus, we’ll be looking for you at the cabin in fifteen days!)

Georgia Barnette Missions Offering for Louisiana

The Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering played a vital role in the purchase and building of Tall Timbers Baptist Conference Center in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. It is also assisting in the construction of the Georgia Barnette Conference Center at Tall Timbers which will enable the training of church planters and mission leaders as well as provide worship space for camps and conferences for generations to come.

Mrs. Barbara Baugh has been sick and hospitalized, but is home now.  Please pray for her continued improvement.

Lisa Whitner Carruth will be having major surgery today.  Please pray for her and for her family.  She is one of my former students from Amite and is married to another former student and living in Greensburg.  She was one of David’s nurses when he was in the ER at Greensburg recently.

Juanita Booty, Ora Lee Wilson’s sister, has improved enough to be in a step-down room now.  Thank you for your continued prayers for her.

Flo Hatcher is eating her breakfast awake and alert. Two doctors just came by and waiting for the oncologist then we know the plan for surgery– looking like mid to late this week. She has to boost her blood counts before another surgery. Also found out that the lesion by her knee has gotten bigger even with radiation. Hopefully after this shoulder replacement the blast of chemo will kill every evil cancer cell in her body.
Yesterday we watched Reba and she laughed out loud several times. That was good to hear. We need to keep her spirits up!   (Written by Julee Hatcher)

Follow-Up After ITB Pump Surgery   by DanMan (Turner)

Howdy folks!

A few more days have passed and I wanted to update everyone on my progress.

On 6/23/15 (Wednesday), I saw my doctor and nurse practitioner at Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center (MMRC) to begin adjusting my intrathecal Baclofen (ITB) Pump dosage. Based on my H & M reflexes, my dosage was increased 416%, from 24 mcg/day to 100 mcg/day. The spasticity is somewhat improved, but I still have some tweaks to be made to the daily dose. I will return on 10/2/15 (Friday) for another adjustment. My doctor said that based on my H & M reflexes that I will likely require a much higher dose.

Today (9/28/15), I saw my neurosurgeon for the first time since surgery, for follow-up regarding my surgical wounds. Everything is healing nicely and as of now, there is no reason for me to schedule another follow-up appointment with him.
So, progress is being made—we just have to find my “magic dose” at MMRC in the weeks to come. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

Please pray for the IMB missionaries who are considering whether or not to accept the phase one reduction in number of missionaries, their co-workers, their people group, and just the impact the missionaries have on people throughout the world as they go to share Jesus with others.

St. James Parish, in south Louisiana, is the least evangelized parish in our state. The high percentage of lostness makes it a priority.  St. James Parish has a population similar to Grant Parish in central Louisiana. However, there are 30 Southern Baptist churches in Grant Parish and only 1 Southern Baptist church in St. James parish.

Vicki Cunningham Gully writes

Family and friends. I have an urgent prayer request. My daughter-in-law, Donna Gully, has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Before being diagnosed she lost so much weight that she currently cannot begin chemo. In order to begin chemo she needs to gain at least 20 lbs, within the next 2 weeks. Please pray for her and our family, for physical, mental, and spiritual healing/comfort. I ask you to add this to both your personal prayer list and to your church’s prayer list. Thank you.

Well, tomorrow is the day! Doug  (Toney) is coming home. He will go to the rehab for 4 hours a day for ten days and then probably have home health. Prayers for a smooth transition back to our home. Good night.

Pray for Susan Rimes as she prepares to see a doctor Wednesday about the pain she has been experiencing.

Please add Sylvester Humphrey to your prayer list again.  He has been admitted to a hospital after a dizzy spell and a fall.

Please continue to pray for peace and comfort for Mrs. Hellen Morris and her family.

Georgia Barnette Offering for Louisiana

The President’s 2020 Commission challenged Louisiana Baptists to start 300 new churches by 2020. From 2010 through July 2015, 112 churches have been planted.

  • In 2014, Louisiana church plants recorded 435 baptisms, and 135 baptisms have been reported through mid-2015.
  • Last year alone, more than 1,800 professions of faith (1,857) were reported by the 112 new church plants. Through July 2015, 555 people have professed their faith in Christ!
  • Of the 70 church plants currently receiving supplement through the Georgia Barnette State Mission Offering, 15 of those are Hispanic church plants. The Hispanic population is the fastest growing language group in our state.
  • Church planters employ many methods to connect with their community, including sports camps, block parties, lunch bags for homeless, door-to- door canvassing, prayer walking and cold water stations at local festivals. One new church plant held a music camp where 55 people attended the camp and saw 4 professions of faith.
  • Volunteer mission teams assist new church plants by leading VBS, Backyard Bible Clubs, door-to-door contacts, prayer walking, construction
and repair (both at the church’s meeting site and in community homes). The goal is to connect with the community, point people to Christ and to the new church plant.

Flo Hatcher (by Julee Hatcher)

Flo Hatcher finally got a room after 11 pm last night. She did X-rays and MRI so we are waiting for her doctor to come in to tell us what’s the plan and when. Before surgery can take place she has to do another procedure so that she won’t lose too much blood during surgery. So surgery probably won’t be today but soon. She’s snoozing off and on and saying random things to me like “did you find the ice cream cake” and “was there a fire here last night” and then she told me she has a knife and if anyone touches her shoulder she’s cutting them. Right now we are waiting for someone to come get her for radiation. The fun never stops….

Request from Freida Jones

PRAYER REQUEST: MY DOCTOR JUST CALLED. IT IS CANCER. I GO FRIDAY MORNING FOR THE GENE TEST. THEN NEXT WEEK, ASSUMING IT IS OK WITH MY INSURANCE WILL HAVE THE MRI THEN PET SCAN. THEN I WILL MEET WITH MY DOCTOR TO DECIDE WHICH SURGERY I WILL HAVE. SHE SAID THE SOONER I CAN DO EACH TEST THE BETTER. NOW PRAY THE INSURANCE DOES NOT DELAY WHAT HAS TO BE DONE. LOVE YOU ALL. GOD BLESS.

Please continue to pray for Ora Lee Wilson’s sister, Juanita Booty.  She did not have a great day today.

Devotional, Scripture, and a Song

Friday

  • Bible Study at 10:00
  • Shoeboxes at 1 P.M.
    • Some of the ladies are staying after Bible study.
    • Others of you are invited to join us in the fellowship hall at 1 P.M. to fold flat shoeboxes into the proper shape and to attach labels.  You are invited to join us if you are available.
    • The repetitive task of preparing shoeboxes goes so much easier with others helping and visiting with us.  I know some men who plan to come.  Any of you, ladies or men, are welcome.  Come be a part of a very meaningful project.

I’m looking forward to seeing some of you at 1 P.M. to work on the shoeboxes.

Thursday

“This poor man cried,

and the Lord heard him.”

~Psalm 34:6a, HCSB~

Ora Lee Wilson called to ask that we pray for her sister, Juanita Booty, who had a test that developed complications Tuesday.  Juanita required surgery and four units of blood. Her health has not been good, so this is a major problem for her.  Please pray.

Jeanna Lee-Newton is in Oschner  on O’neil,  room 547.  Please pray for her and her family.

Please continue to pray for Ken Roberts and his family.  Carol Jean Conerly said he was taken back to Tulane Hospital in New Orleans.  These last few weeks have been difficult.  God has answered many prayers for Ken during this time.  More prayers are needed.  As you pray for Ken, please pray for the family.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher (3 updates) needs our prayers more than ever.

  • Flo Hatcher has a broken shoulder and no idea how it happened. Waiting to be admitted — just can’t get enough of this place. Prayers please and thank you. David went to see one of his doctors yesterday.  We learned he will have several more procedures to try to keep him healthy.  I’ll let you know he he has another ablation – on the left side of his heart this time.  That is the biggest procedure that we foresee at this time.
  • Update to my last post about my moms shoulder- just spoke with her doctor. It’s a new tumor in the bone that cracked it. Admitting her to a room to do X-rays and MRI for more information before determining what kind of surgery is needed if she even decides to do surgery. She’s got IV of pain meds right now so she’s snoozing like a cat in the sun
  • Apparently being sick and unhealthy is a growing trend– my mom Flo Hatcher may have to spend the night in this ER room because the hospital is full. I am not believing this. Please pray she gets a room tonight. I cannot leave her in this bootleg room and it’s freezing cold down here and noisy.

Pray for the Shaw family on this very difficult day and in the days to come.

Prayer meeting last night was one of my all-time favorite prayer meeting.  The topic being discussed, prayer and turning from the devil, led to sharing that  touched our hearts. The old devil wants to keep us away from God.  Testimonies last night told of victories over the devil.

Georgia Barnette Offering for Louisiana Missions – Fast Facts, Part 1

Your Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering is busy year-round making a difference in the lives of people and churches across the state.

One half of Louisiana’s population is unchurched or lost. Our challenge from Jesus is to “go” and “be witnesses” to those who do not have a relationship with Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8).

  • “Victory in Jesus”

Friday, after Bible study, a number of ladies will work to make the flat Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes into boxes that are shaped like regular shoeboxes.  We hope to get a number of them ready for packing.  Some men will be joining us at 1:00.  Please feel free to join us.  We have work to do!  How blessed we are to be able to participate in sending gifts and “Jesus” to boys and girls around the world.

Operation Christmas Child Needs for Our Shoeboxes

  • Toothbrushes (104)
  • Hair brushes (58 for boys & 60 for girls)
  • Bandanas (29)
  • Crayons (26)
  • Pencil sharpeners (37)
  • Hat (30 for boys & 19 for girls)
  • $1.00 Calculators (38)

If you want, you can bring money and someone else will do the shopping for you.

If you plan to go shopping, please let me know what you will be looking for so I can keep this list updated.  You can bring your items any time you go to the church and leave them in the hallway across from the kitchen.

I’ll try to set the Christmas tree up for Sunday.  Get a/some ornaments from the tree to show what you will be shopping for.

The packing party will be Saturday, October 24, one month from today!

Picture all those happy children who will get packages!  Be a part of this mission project!

Thank you for reading and praying.  It’s always good to know so many of you join me each day.  Thank-you for doing so.
