Walter Theodore “Buster” Thompson, III

June 07, 1932 – June 09, 2018

Walter Theodore Thompson III, known to many as Buster, was born on June 7, 1932. Surrounded by his closest family, Buster left his life-long home in Hillsdale, LA for his eternal home in Heaven. Buster lived a happy and prosperous life with his wife, Bonnie Hoyt Thompson, with whom he’d celebrate his 66th wedding anniversary on June 23rd. Buster was an active supporter of the Hillsdale community as a member of the Hillsdale Tractor Pullers as well as a career dairyman. He was a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church. He served in the Airforce and fought in the Korean War. He was survived by his wife, Bonnie Hoyt Thompson; sister, Ramona Powers; nieces, Charel Kennedy and Ramona “Baby” Elam; great nieces, Megan Wagner, Sarah Savoy, and Carmen Elam; nephew, Billy Cox; great nephews, Chris Peairs and Hill Savoy, as well as numerous other nephews and nieces. Buster was blessed with “his girls” and their families, Jessica Dupepe (Greg), Jennie Perkins (Corey), Bonnie Jordan (Brooks), Brady, Emma Kate, Court, Kaul, Kade, Bennett, and Blinn. Buster was greeted in heaven by his parents, Walter and Rita Phillips Thompson; sister, Delores Thompson Cox; brothers in law, Frank Powers and Glenn Cox; nephews, Peavy Powers; father in law Charles Hoyt; brother in law and sister in law; Gene and Betty Hoyt Cox; and a special nephew, better known as a grandson, Blaine Milton. Pallbearers are Greg Dupepe, Brooks Jordan, Corey Perkins, Brady Milton, Court Milton, Chris Peairs, Hill Savoy, and Andy Miller. Visitation will be at Hillsdale Baptist Church 9 AM on June 12, 2018 with service beginning at 12 noon. Services conducted by Rev. Darryl Miller. Interment Roberts Cemetery, Hillsdale, LA. Saturday, we will be making items to send in shoeboxes.  Men, women, boys, and girls are invited to join us from 9-12 in the fellowship hall.  Crafting is always more fun with friends.  It becomes even more fun when you know the items will be shared as Christmas gifts with children who might otherwise not have and gifts this year.  In addition to the gifts, the children get an invitation to attend classes once a week for six weeks where they will be exposed to some Bible basics.  I’m thrilled to know my shoeboxes may lead some children to the Lord!  This is your invitation to join us for a fun morning that will bless each of us and eventually many children who live nowhere near Kentwood.  You may be interested in making some purchases such as small flashlights from Walmart or $1.00 calculators from the dollar stores or just bring some clean, used t-shirts which will be used in making items for the shoeboxes.

 

 

The June “Young” Ladies Birthday Party will be on the 4th Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at The Cafe.  Ladies with June birthdays who will be honored are: Sandra Arnold, Alcyon Hayden, Barbara Hutchinson, and Judy Pervis.

 

 

 

Pray for the youth from our church and from many other churches as they spend a week at M-Fuge in Mobile.  I know it will be hot, but our kids will be out and working to bless others.  This week has potential to greatly impact our youth and the lives of those being ministered to.  Please pray for them.

 

 

 

Friday morning, we will resume our Bible study of Romans at 10:00 in the fellowship hall.

The VBS program at FBC, Kentwood was great last night.  Now, we have to wait another whole year to do another one!  It was good to see all the parents and grandparents there.

 

 

Mrs. Ruby Dillon has made good progress with her walking and is scheduled to come home Tuesday afternoon.  Thank God for her progress.

 

 

Connor Corkern is doing much better and may be able to come home on day next week.  Thank God for the progress he has made.

 

 

 

Steve Joseph Campo, Sr.

November 06, 1927 – June 08, 2018

Steve Joseph Campo, Sr., passed away peacefully and prayerfully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Condition at the age of 90, on Friday, June 8, 2018. He was at home surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years, Savina Parrino Campo and his beloved children. He was born on November 6, 1927 to Joseph J. Campo, Sr. and Fannie Schittone Campo in Tickfaw, La., and lived there most of his life on Mulberry Street. Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a faithful member of St. Helena Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Society and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Amite High School in 1945 and received military training at Camp Roberts, Ca. in radio operations. He worked for New Orleans Beverage Agency and Glazer Wholesale for 44 years and awarded Man of the Year on many occasions. Steve was an elite golfer winning the Springview Club Championship and KC Tournament several times in addition to winning numerous state and local tournaments. He was an accomplished athlete, outdoorsman, harmonica player, and loved all types of music and dance. Steve and Savina, were married October 22, 1950 and reared their nine children in Amite on Mulberry Street. They were deeply devoted to supporting their children attain their life goals and insured that each attended their college degrees and beyond. He is survived by his children: Dr. Stephanie Fay Campo, Dr. Kathryn Kirkhart, JoAnn Campo Beach and her husband, Peter Beach, Steve Joseph Campo, Jr. and his wife, Loreta Genco Campo, Anthony Campo, Dr. Joseph John Campo, Sr., and his wife, Alice Foulks Campo, Jennie Campo Littlewood and her husband, Dr. Steven Littlewood, Mark Campo and his wife, Nancy Smith Campo, Samuel Vincent Campo, Sr. and his wife, Brynn Hastings Campo, and Frank Mario Campo, Sr. and his wife, Tammy Gaeta Campo. He is the proud grandfather to 43 beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren: Callan, Kristy, Emily and Leah Beach, Laura, Jeremy and Noah Gatlin, Thomas and Layla Beach, Steve J. Campo and Aimee Campo, Mary Lauren Campo and fiancee’ Eric Vernon, Jennifer, Cara, Lathan, Ashley and Mabel Campo, Tommy Triche, Braden Chandler , Rachel, Corey, Ace and Hays Blunk, Joey, Silvia and Nicholas Campo, David, Lisa and Haylee Jane Campo, Ryan and Emily Cassidy, Dr. Alden Littlewood, Susannah Littlewood, Joshua, Fallon O’Neill, Easton, and Liam Campo, Jacob Campo, Samuel Campo Jr, Mario, Micah and Sarah Campo. Steve is survived by his brother, John Joseph Campo, Sr., sister in law, Carol Parrino Campo, sister, Catherine Campo Adomitis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph John Campo, Sr. and Fannie Schittone Campo, and parents-in-law, Tony and Jennie Triolo Parrino, sister, Mary Campo Lavigne, and sister, Sarah Campo Guzzardo, and younger brother John Campo. Steve was a man of deep faith, hard work, integrity and devotion to his family. His strong faith in God and confidence in Gods promises were guiding forces in his life. He was an inspiration to us all, forever cherished in our memory, and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Friends and family are invited to his visitation at McKneely Funeral Home of Amite on Monday June 11 from 9:30am to 1:30pm followed by Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Helena Catholic Church on 120 S. First Street in Amite, La. at 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Amite Cemetery on Hwy 16 East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and St Helena Catholic Church building fund. A special thanks to Dr. Kreft, Dr. Pray, and all of the devoted nurses and caretakers “Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, what God has in store for those who love him” (1 Cor. 2:9). Bro. Darryl shared with the children in VBS this morning.  He did not quote this verse, but the illustration he presented to them made this verse clear.  He has a special way of relating to people, a God-given talent.

 

 

One of the themes this week is, “When we struggle, Jesus rescues!”  There are people all around struggling.  I’ll not name any of them today, so you can focus on that thought, not individual people.  If you or yours are struggling, Jesus will come to the rescue because He loves you!

 

 

I’ve been making purchases and plans for the Mission Projects Day on the 16th.  I’m so thankful to report that as I have asked a number of people to help in a specific way, they have all cheerfully agreed to help.  Now, I have a request to make to you.  If you have old Crayons, old t-shirts, ribbon, etc. that you have stashed away, why not share it with us so we can repurpose these items in our projects?  My second request concerning this day is that you come to the fellowship hall at 9:00 A.M. and help.  When we had out last work day, every adult told me they had fun.  You can’t beat fun and progress for missions!

Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be available that day.  Anyone who gets shoeboxes that day or has recently received them at church will be able to select some items from our stash to use in their boxes.

Cindy Richards is home and doing well.  Physical therapy is ahead for her now so she can get back to walking.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes will be available at church Sunday.  If you pack one a month, you can get five packed before the collection date.

 

 

 

Calculators are a great item for shoeboxes.  I like to purchase brightly colored solar powered ones that can be found at the dollar stores for $1.00.  If you are not going to pack some shoeboxes, you might want to purchase some calculators each month.

 

 

 

I’m thankful for the rain we received yesterday afternoon.  We got a nice rain yesterday.  Some of you who live in Kentwood were blessed with two good rains.  Did you take time to than God for the rain?  It’s not too late!

Vincent Arnone, Sr.

April 28, 1940 – May 28, 2018

Vincent Arnone, Sr., a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018. He was born April 28, 1940 in Hammond and was 78 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Selena Arnone; children, Vincent Arnone, Jr., Harvey Arnone, Pauline Franklin, Melissa Landry, Joseph Arnone, Joshua Shirah and Kacie Bennett; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his 2 sisters, Josie Ruffino and Catherine Arnone. Preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lambert; son, Wayne Arnone; parents, Joe and Paulina Arnone and  4 brothers, Salvadore, Tony, Felix and Angelo Arnone.  Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from  6 PM until 9 PM on Friday, June 1, 2018. Friday Morning Bible Study – Romans 11

 

 

VBS begins Sunday night with a kick-off and follows with classes Monday – Friday from 8:30-11:30.  Our theme is “Shipwrecked”.   Contact the church office to pre-register and to purchase a t-shirt.

 

 

Children in Action – In missions, children are taught there are four aspects of missions, learn, pray, give, and do.  Last night our class (of all girls last night) untangled hundreds of necklaces, sorted, and packaged beads that have been donated for Operation Christmas Child.  We left our regular schedule to “do” missions!  Most of these beads will be used as fillers for shoeboxes when they arrive in Dallas.                                                      We will be working on lots of doing in the next weeks and months.  I hope you have June 16th marked on your calendar.  We will meet in the fellowship hall from 9-12 that morning to work on the “do” aspect of missions some more.  EVERYONE is invited to participate!

 

 

 

When we have the next WMU meeting in July, we will focus on doing.  We will have tables set up with various churches showing some of the items their members are creating to share in various mission projects.  For adults, there are the same four aspects of missions, learn, pray, give, and do.  We hope to learn from each others, so we can do more and thus share more.  I challenge each church in the association to show us what you are doing and teach someone else how they may can do the same.  Let’s share our ideas.  Let’s bring the children demonstrate and to learn.

Connor Corkern

Up until last Friday night Connor had been well. I noticed he sounded congested, but nothing that worried me. Saturday morning he woke up congested with lots of thick mucus and fever. I started giving his usual meds, CPT vest, and breathing treatments to stay on top of it. By Saturday night he seemed better. Sunday morning he needed some oxygen, and after trying my best to get him suctioned out well enough to breathe easily I had a gut instinct that I needed to bring him in to Children’s.

I loaded him up with his portable oxygen tank and off we went. By the time I made it to Hammond I noticed he was lethargic, had rapid short breaths, and my heart knew he wouldn’t make it to New Orleans.
I rushed into North Oaks hospitals ER in tears pushing my barely breathing Connor with his oxygen tank. They immediately brought him back and started working on him. They took excellent care of him until Children’s Hospital’s helicopter arrived to pick him up. I breathed a sigh of relief watching the helicopter lift off the ground bringing my boy to his home away from home. If only I had known what was happening in that helicopter I wouldn’t have been so calm.

Ninety minutes later Coye and I sat outside of CHNOLA’s Pediatric ICU waiting to see Connor man. We had to wait an hour more before being brought to his room.

Connor had to be bagged the entire ride to CHNOLA and was immediately intubated upon his arrival in New Orleans. My boy was in septic shock, had metabolic acidosis, and his left lung had pneumonia. His blood pressure bottomed out a few times, but thanks to the incredible ICU team here, he made it out okay.

The ICU doctor came out and told us how incredibly sick Connor was and how he wasn’t out of the woods by any means. We weren’t sure if Connor would be able to overcome this illness and were mentally preparing for a life without our boy; something we dread with every ounce of our being.
Fast forward four days later, Connor is making miraculous progress. He is still intubated, somewhat sedated, but is holding his own blood pressure and his levels are stabilizing.

We know Connor’s healing will be a long process, and we know God is in control. Many people have asked us how we can be so strong, and our answer is always the same…God. When we are weak, He is strong.

Thank GOD for His beautiful mercy, grace, and love. God’s plan is perfect and has led us to wonderful destinations with our boy. He has also led us to all of you, our amazing prayer warriors and supporters. God is so good to us.

I promise to keep you all updated on Connor’s progress through this adventure. Our family sends you love tonight, and always. Thank you for following along on Connor man’s many adventures.

 

 

 

Joanne Seymour is progressing well following cancer surgery and looking forward to the next step in New York.

 

 

Adrian Phillips is home and so glad to be back at Pine Ridge.  Keep him in your prayers.

 

 

Mrs. Ruby Dillon is no longer at North Oaks, but a rehab to regain her strength.  Pray for good progress so she can come home soon.

 

 

Stanley Relan passed away Thursday.  The obituary will be available today.
