The Lord’s Day

Operation Christmas Child

Thank-you to those who came to help with painting shoeboxes yesterday.  We painted many sweet pictures for the children to enjoy each time they open their shoeboxes.  Everyone was surprised at how easy it was!  Even though we painted many boxes, we still have more to paint.  We will also begin to fold the flat boxes into the proper shoebox shape.

If you missed out, I hope to paint twice during the week and again on Saturday.  Your help would be wonderful.  You will be blessed.  Here’s my plan:

  • Tuesday at 8:30
  • Wednesday at 8:30
  • Saturday at 8:30

Let me know when you can come help, if you can plan ahead.  If you can’t figure our your schedule ahead of time, just come.   Mark your calendar now for the Christmas party the last Saturday in October.  That’s when we have our big packing party and fill those shoeboxes in preparation for shipping them.  Come be a part a of special night.

It will take $9.00 for postage for each box we pack.  We are collecting those funds now.  Your support will be greatly appreciated.

“God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

(We often take these blessings God sends our way without realizing they are from God.  We even neglect to thank Him when we do realize He sent the blessings to us.)

Mrs. Ruby Dillon was a little better last night.  Let’s pray for peace and comfort as the doctor solves the cause of her problem.  She’s in room 4012B at North Oaks.

What does the “Painting of Shoeboxes” involve?
  • Painting an area the size of the top of a shoebox.
  • Gluing on a picture.

Who can do that?

  • Almost everyone
  • Someone who is willing (young, old, or somewhere in the middle; male or female)

See you in the fellowship hall at 9:00 Saturday morning.  Everything needed will be provided.  We just need to add people.

Tuesday

Follow God’s example,

therefore, as dearly loved children.

Carol Bennett Sealey is working hard to regain full use of her body.  I think all the years of competitive sports gives her the drive she needs to do more than the OT and PT suggest she does.  She certainly wants to get better and is improving.  Pray for her continued improvement.

My cousin, Scott Tolleson, who has Huntington’s Disease, had a mini stroke Sunday.  Scott is in his early 60’s.  He has improved since Sunday.  Pray for Scott and Brenda, his wife and caregiver.  They live in the Shreveport area.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon has not been feeling well because of nausea and dizziness.  Mr. Cete took her to North Oaks yesterday morning.  She is now in room 4012B.

Sunday

“Here’s the lesson:

Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends.

Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home . . .

If you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? . . .

You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”

~Luke 16:9, 11, 13 NLT~

Tuesday

“That is why we never give up.

Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.

For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long.

Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen.

For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”

~2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NLT~

Saturday

We had overnight guests from Texas arrive after we went to bed and sleeping a little late for my normal morning posting.  I’m thankful for the company and hope they have a great day in Baton Rouge.

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Scripture Writing – August 30 an 31

  • August 30 – Job 38:4-7
  • August 31 – Genesis 12:2-3

I apologize for getting my days confused this month.  Our life just doesn’t run on a regular schedule now, so I often am confused about the day.  At least that is what I am going to blame it on.

The Scriptures for September will be available at church tomorrow.

Counting tomorrow, there are only three more Sundays to turn in items for the LA Baptist Children’s Home Fall Food Round-up.  This is our once-a-year opportunity to help them with food needs for the next year.

In September, we begin to think of the annual mission offering for Louisiana, the Georgia Barnette offering.  Help us share the Good News in various ways in Louisiana.  The 2019 theme is “Impart Truth Today”.

I hope you are enjoying shopping for the Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes”.  You can pack some for you as an individual or contribute the the church’s boxes.  If you need a box or boxes, please let me know.

I want to end the day with a very big need.  Pray for the people of Florida and other areas that will face destructive Hurricane Dorian in the next days.  Pray for those who live in areas were the storm will go.  Pray for the first responders who will be busy helping others.  Pray for the others such as the electrical power people who will be working as soon as it is safe.  I saw convoys for trucks going that way Wednesday.  Pray for Louisiana Baptist and others who will be doing disaster relief for the coming months.

Anna Lee
