What a beautiful weather day Sunday was!  Church services and activities added their joys.  It was our pleasure to be able to walk around, assist a little, but mainly to get to visit and enjoy all the young families at church tonight.  We were so blessed!

Operation Christmas Child – 

Tuesday at 9 A.M., we will meet to put labels on boxes, move tables and chairs, etc. as we prepare for the packing party which will be Saturday at 4 P.M.  Come help us this week.  Be a part of “sending Jesus to lots of little children”.  We have all the items we need for the boxes.  I will post the total for the OCC postage that has been collected when that new total becomes available.

Georgia Barnett – 

 I will also update the Georgia Barnett poster before Wednesday.  I’m thankful for the gifts that have been given so far.

 

Pray for David as he has to drive to Baton Rouge and then New Orleans for two minor appointments.  The stress of the day will be driving in both cities the same day.

Our friend, Fay Carol is married to Jim Todd who recently learned he had two blockages that will need to be addressed.  Fay Carol asked for prayers for her husband.

 

Thomas “Laddie” Lawrence Hudspeth, Sr.

March 31, 1930 – October 26, 2017

A resident of Amite passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Canon Hospice in Jefferson. He was born March 31, 1930 in Morrow, LA and was 87 years of age. He was a hard working, dedicated, leading salesman with Watkins Inc. and a landlord who helped thousands of people in our community. He was an active member of St. Helena Catholic Church and was a Catechist Leader in his younger years. He leaves behind his loving children, Thomas Lawrence Hudspeth, and wife, Kathy, Debra Ann Hudspeth Ricks, and husband, Robert, and Ted Joseph Hudspeth and wife, Mary; grandchildren, Shawn Hudspeth (Zandi), Le’Anne Hudspeth Malnar (Jeramy), Emily Hudspeth Smith (Daniel), Evan Hudspeth, Wayne Ricks (Gennipher), Kevin Ricks (Stephanie), Ted Hudspeth, Jr., Christopher Hudspeth, Nicholas Hudspeth, Natalie Hudspeth, and William Hudspeth; great grandchildren, Hunter and Haydan Hudspeth, Anna, Ava, and Lane Malnar, Raelyn and Rhys Ricks, and Eliyanah Smith; brother, Charles Hudspeth; and sister, Fleeta Chautin. Preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Lois Meche; second wife, Marie Hebert; parents, Thomas Lawrence Hudspeth and Alma Adelaide Tatman Hudspeth; and his siblings, Eleanor Hudspeth Conrad, Daniel Hudspeth, Rosa Hudspeth and Martha Hudspeth Ducote. He is also survived by his step children including Arlene Raxsdale, Jimmy Berteau, Murphy Berteau, and Sandra St. Romain and their extended families. Also, he leaves behind his loving dogs, Bailey II and Buddy. The family would like to thank Yolanda Gordon and Ray Barnes for their years of caring and devotion to our father. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9 AM until 12:30 PM, on Friday with Rosary at McKneely’s at 12 Noon. Religious Services at St. Helena Catholic Church, Amite,  at 1 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017. Services conducted by Fr. Randy Cuevas. Eight days until we pack the Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes”!  It takes lots of preparation to have everything purchased and organized so we are ready to fill the boxes.  Thanks to those who made purchases and to those who have helped in the organizational process.  I think of the children who will receive the boxes and work a little harder.

The collection week for shoeboxes is November 13-20.  Churches, schools, clubs, businesses, and individuals are invited to leave their boxes at FBC, Kentwood.

The Friday Morning Bible Study will be on Ezekiel 28 today.  You are welcome to join us at 10 A.M. in the Fellowship Hall.

 

The children in missions class will be working on earning a badge by praying for MK’s, Missionary Kids.  This time next month, some of them will be wearing their newest badge on their green vests.

Mrs. Anne Hurst has been recovering at home and plans to be at church Sunday.  Let’s pray she will be well enough to be there.

Fannie Fortenberry Seal of Franklinton fell causing the several facial fractures and requiring nose surgery.  Pray she will have a good recovery without much more pain.

December 15, 1927 – October 22, 2017

A resident of Kentwood went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at her home. She was born December 15, 1927 in Spring Creek and was 89 years of age. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. She is survived by daughter, Oneida Bridges Carruth, Greensburg, Kathleen Bridges Brown and husband, Mack, Mt. Hermon; son, Gary Wayne Bridges and wife, Linda, Amite; grandchildren, Wylie Smith and wife, Eudora, Round Rock, TX, Minda Raybourn and husband, Kevin, Mt. Hermon, and David Brown and wife, Kasey, Mt. Hermon; great-grandchildren, Sarah Smith, Clayton Brown, Allison Brown, Eric Raybourn, and Chloe Raybourn; sisters-in-law, Wilma Chand, Bonnie McMillian, and Polly Bridges. Jordan Hawkins, a football player who was injured Friday night, is better and back at home Saturday afternoon.  I’ve always been happy to hear that those who left a campus in an ambulance were able to return home with less serious injuries than first considered.  Thank you, God, for Jordan’s good report yesterday and for those of all schools who had such injuries.  Seeing both sets of players gather in one hurdle and praying speaks highly of the schools, the families, the coaches, and the players.

 

Please pray for Gloria Gill again.  Her A-fib has returned.

 

Rev. Wendell Rhodus will be preaching this morning at FBC, Kentwood at 10:30.  I’m looking forward to hearing him again.

 

Tonight, there will be an associational meeting for Two Rivers at FBC, Kentwood at 6 P.M.  Everyone is invited to come to FBC, Kentwood tonight for 6 P.M.

 

Tomorrow morning, the Two Rivers WMU will meet at Spring Creek Baptist Church.  All are invited to come hear Rev. Don Meadows of Taylor Creek Baptist Church speak about the Two Rivers compassion ministry.  Come get some hints for your church.

 

Thursday night, at 6:30, we will gather at the cabin for our monthly Third Thursday gathering.  If you have not been before, I invite you to come join us.  For more information, you can contact me through this site or you can call us.

 

Pray for me as I share missions with the children who are new members of FBC, Kentwood.  Pray I can teach them in an informative, yet fun way.  Mainly, I pray they learn information about missions that will stick with them and influence them for the rest of their lives.

I’m thankful we were spared any of the problems associated with Hurricane Nate.  Yesterday was a beautiful day in Kentwood.  That makes me remember that God can take a life headed for hell and turn it around.  That life can be a blessing and an example for others.

Sunday, we had the opportunity to worship with many of our neighbors.  We enjoyed being a part of their congregation for the day.  We found time to visit our friend, “Miss” Ruby, in the hospital and to twice spend time working with Operation Christmas Child donations.  If you would like to make purchases of needed items, please ask me about current needs or check the list under the stairs to the balcony.

David and I get more excited as time gets closer to being able to ship and pack the items in three and a half weeks.  This project means so much to us because we have seen the shoeboxes as they were received and opened by children.  We know each box represents gifts, but the greatest gift in each shoebox is the opportunity to learn and accept Jesus, not only for the recipient, but for the extended family who will all get to hear about Jesus.  I’m thankful for Samaritan’s Purse!

When we go to the hospital or nursing home, I often wonder who is there that we would visit is only we knew they were there.  I remember the day when there was a patient list available for visitors, but understand why that is not the case at the present time.  This leads me to say that even though we saw three friends at the St. Helena Hospital/ Nursing Home Tuesday, there were at least two more we would have visited if we had only know they were there.  Mrs. Anne Hurst is in the hospital and Mrs. Judy Purvis in the nursing home.  (I forgot the new last name for the second lady and didn’t ask Rusty or Becky because I think many of you will recognize her Purvis name better.)   I appreciate receiving phone calls from some of you who help me know about friends and family members that I need to list here.

The Two Rivers  meeting planned for Sunday night at FBC, Kentwood has been postponed a week due to “Nate”.  I assume we may revert to our usual Sunday night schedule.

 

Yesterday, Henry and Virginia McKenzie and David and I worked on counting and sorting the items we now have for Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes”.  We have what we need for most items, which is very good.  The key items we still could use are washcloths, pencils. and pens.  Since I called the names of those who helped yesterday, I would also like to say Miles Hatchel, Jennie Hatchel, Diane Simons, Ora Lee Wilson, and Summer Clemsons have also helped.  Many of you have  contributed.  This is an enormous project that is possible only with your support.  Thank-you all for supporting Operation Christmas Child!  Check the poster by the piano to see how we progress on collecting postage to ship the boxes.

 

I’m thankful to hear “Nate” will not be as strong as some of the past hurricanes.  Let’s continue to pray for those in the path of the storm wherever it choses to go.

Donna Fay Miller is still coughing and having medication issues.  She goes back to the doctor today.  Please continue to pray for her.

Theople Hurst was released from the care of her doctor who did her recent gall bladder surgery.  “Miss” Theople is most anxious to get back to church.

Jimmy Alford, David’s brother, saw his new cancer specialist yesterday to discuss the plan for treatment.  Pray for Jimmy as he begins a tough round of treatment.

Ruby Dillon has had two or three more difficult days.  Pray for “Miss” Ruby as doctors are still trying to identify her problem.  Pray also for Mr. “Cete”, her personal caregiver.

A resident of Kentwood, he passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Magnolia, MS. He was born April 8, 1998 in Hammond, LA and was 19 years of age. He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Margaret Bates Kundler; sister, Kristen Kundler; grandmother, Amelia Terry Bates; grandfather, Kurt Kundler; aunts and uncles, Kelly and Tammy Kundler and Aimee and Tyrone Blades. Operation Christmas Child – Washcloths are still needed!

Postage for “shoeboxes” is still needed.  When I think of how much it costs me to mail a shoebox size package to my family overseas, I quickly realize what a bargain this postage really is!

Josiah was supposed to have his heart cath today but the plan changed. He will be having it tomorrow though. As of right now, it will be earlier in the morning (around 7:30ish but could change if an emergant case is added to the schedule). This will be mostly diagnostic. If they see a pulmonary vein that is constricted enough to need intervention, they will either balloon it to stretch it or put a stint in. Praying for an informative and safe heart cath. We will keep everyone posted…as much as possible. It will be a bit of a crazy day tomorrow so please be patient with us on updates. To God be the glory!!!

Pray for Rene Deck Terrell as she has a heart procedure this morning.  She will be thankful for your prayers.

The Senior Adult revival will continue this morning at New Zion Baptist Church.  Rev. Ernest Graham will be the speaker.  I am always amazed and blessed to see more than a dozen pastors stand together and know why they are serving Him.  Coffee and donuts will be available at 9:30.  Choir practice will begin at that time also.  The meeting officially begins at 10:00 and concludes with lunch.

 

The Operation Christmas Child Packing Party will be one month from tomorrow night, on November 4th.  We are beginning to purchase the items we need to complete the “shoeboxes”.  If you have an opportunity to shop in the next day or two, we still need some soap and washcloths.

The cost of transporting “shoeboxes” is $9.00 per box this year.  After sending packages internationally via to Brazil and Europe for more than twenty years, I can tell you this is a great price!  What cost would you be willing to pay to save a child and possible a whole family?  No matter where you are helping with “shoeboxes”, a school, a church, or a business, I’m sure you will be richly blessed by knowing the opportunities your box(es)  will give to children who might not get to learn about Jesus if it were not for you!

 

 

Continue to pray for all the people whose lives were forever changed in Las Vegas Sunday night.  Also, pray for those at church Sunday, in any hospital, on any military battle site, extended care facility, wearing a police uniform, climbing an electrical pole to provide services, driving down the highway, giving birth to a new baby, those being admitted to any ER, driving a bus load of children, etc.  Life can change quickly.  It is vital to know and have God as Savior of of souls.  

(God our Savior) desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
