Wanda Smith asked us to pray for her daughter-in-law, Courtney Bruce.  She was in an automobile accident a while back and is still in pain.  Pray the surgery Tuesday will relieve her pain.

 

 

Pray for David as he meets a new health-care provider tomorrow.  He will see a liver specialist in Baton Rouge.

Betty Annette Pope

December 05, 1950 – January 23, 2019

Betty Annette Pope, a resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at her home. She was born December 5, 1950 in Frost, LA and was 68 years of age. She was a member of Coyell Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Lonnie Pope; 2 daughters, Melissa Duffy and Shelia Granate; 3 sons, Dewayne Hano, Todd Pope, and Bryan Pope; 1 sister, Inell Ashworth; 1 brother, Glenn Watts; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Carew and Verna Watts; son, Calvin Hano; 2 sisters, Ernestine Ashworth and Rita Brown; 2 brothers, Melvin Watts and Joe Ray Watts. Operation Christmas Child – The suggested purchases for January at scarves, hats, and gloves.  If you purchase an of these items , or any other item, you can leave them on the table in the Sunday School class next to the choir room.  Thanks for helping get us off to an early start.   If you are one of those people who like to give money and let someone else do the shopping, you can give to the special account for missions.   Either way, thank you for helping us with this worthy project.

 

 

 

We will officially end the collection for the Lottie Moon Offering Sunday.  Of course, it is never too late, or too early, to give to any of the mission offerings.

 

 

 

Jason will be flying home today and returning with his family in about three weeks.  Jennie is still with us.  I cannot explain all they have done/are doing, but will simply say they have been very helpful.

I’ve been keeping up with the others who are sick.  Today, I just want to say there are many opportunities to help families with a member hospitalized as well as families of those who are at home.
Faith makes us want to act.  Do something to encourage others to attend church, encourage the sick and their families, share memories with the homebound, etc.  You’ll be blessed as you bless others.

Pine Ridge United Methodist Union will provide a delicious breakfast buffet Sunday morning at 8:00.  Thanks to these ladies who faithfully continue this project which began many years ago.

 

 

FBC continues to have a number of people hospitalized and a number of people who have recently been hospitalized.  Pray for each of them.  Special prayer requests for Phillip Strickland and his family, Glen Magee, Sr. and his family, and Frances Gay has had some new problems and has been transferred to OLOL in Baton Rouge.  Eleanor Morris will probably get to come home today.

 

 

I hope you make it okay with the cold weather last night.  Stay alert to the weather reports this time of the year.  Do you know someone you could help at this difficult time of the year?  Either help them or report the need to some one or some group who can help them.

Eleanor Morris‘ hip surgery went well yesterday.  Pray for her as she begins to walk today.

 

 

 

Frances Gay will have her knee procedure early this morning.  Pray all goes well for her too.

 

 

 

David, Jason, and I had a long, interesting day at Ochsner.  It seems his diagnosis has changed because of a problem David had last week.  We see a specialist Monday.  I think our “picture” will be clearer then.  Until then, please continue to pray.

Eleanor Morris will be going to North Oaks early this morning for hip surgery.  Pray her health insurance company and her hospital can get together and be ready for the surgery.
Frances Gay is still scheduled for knee surgery in Covington tomorrow morning.
Mrs. Molly Carter has been diagnosed with dementia.  If you would like to call her or to send a card, please call 514-6757 to get the number or the address.
Pray for baby Bennett Brabham and his mom, Katie, as they both have procedures scheduled for this week.
Pray for Eric Lee and Bryan Tate as they continue with medical testing at M.D. Anderson.
Pray for Majel Dean.   Her sister passed away last week.
Please continue to pray for Phillip Strickland, Glen Magee, Sr., and Ferrie Gene Blackmon.
Pray for our daughter-in-law, Becki, as she drives home today leaving Jason to stay with us for the week.  Join us in thanking God for all they did to help us during the past few days.  Pray for David as we see his oncologist today.

It was good to see someone bring in a cans of soup last night at church.  We are collecting until “Souper” Bowl Sunday.  Then, the delivery will be made to Hope Center to help those who might need some groceries during the cold winter days.

The associational WMU meeting will be at 190 this morning at East Fork Baptist Church.  The memory of two ladies, Betty Lou Guy (Spring Creek) and Martha Traylor (Greenlaw), will be honored for their service to WMU.
Tuesday, the “Young” Ladies of our church will meet at 11:00 at the Burger Basket in Osyka to honor ladies with birthdays.
It’s always a good day to talk with the Lord and to know he is always available to communicate with us.

Frances Gay‘s orthoscopic surgery has been rescheduled for January 22 at 5:30 A.M.  Please pray all goes well.

Bennett is scheduled to get tubes on Monday, but he also has a terrible cough so we may reschedule! I’m also having surgery on Thursday. Please keep us both in your prayers this week! 🙏🏼

Sue Ellen Russell Ford Pearson, of Amite Louisiana passed away January 17, 2019 at the age of 70; after a long battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Shelby Oscar Russell and Elizabeth Hyde Russell Stevens. She leaves behind her husband Craig Pearson, one daughter Tracye Ford, three sons Hoyt Ford, Russell (Rusty) Ford and Lonnie O’Dell (Dell) Ford II. Six granddaughters Trista Suzanne Ford, Brianna Nicole Gayle, Brianna Danielle Ford, Janie Lynn Fannin, Stefan Renee Ford, Corey Nicole Ford and 1 grandson Dade Scott Ford. Also left to cherish her memories are great-grandchildren David, Lyle, Sofia, Harley, Lannon, Leigh Ann and Maci Lee. She is also survived by two sisters, Terry Russell Pye and Paula (Tot) Russell Hodges. The family would also like to thank her brilliant oncologist Dr. Scott Boniol, and his munificent staff, for blessing us with several more beautiful years with this precious woman. Also many thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Christus Highland and Life Care at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, who so loving cared for all of her final needs. Doris Faye Tillery

March 30, 1945 – January 15, 2019

A resident of Denham Springs passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson. She was born March 30, 1945 in Amite and was 73 years of age. She is survived by 3 children, Mark Thomas, Kelly Tullier and husband James, Lauren Sibley and husband Jason; grandchildren, Ryan Thomas, Kathryn Thomas, Maryn Thomas, Danny Tullier, Brendan Tullier, Jared Tullier, Kailyn Sibley, Morgan Sibley, Raegan Sibley, Brinnyn Sibley, Ethan Sibley, and Camryn Sibley; 2 brothers, Robert W. Tillery, and Carlton E. Tillery; special friend, Robert Pezant. Preceded in death by parents, Julian and Doris Tillery; granddaughter, Aubryn Thomas. Claude Eugene Smith

February 25, 1936 – January 16, 2019

Our wonderful and loving father Claude Eugene Smith has found peace and went on to see his heavenly Father. Claude Eugene Smith was born in Mount Hermon Louisiana on February 25th 1936. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Aline (Wilkes) Smith and father, Wilson Eugene Smith. He will be met at Saint Peter’s gate by his two grandsons whom he will finally be able to once again hug and hold; Travis Wayne Vicknair and Charles Jacob (Jake) Kirkland. What a joyous moment it will be. Claude spent his early years working on his family farm and picking up milk in the surrounding area. Upon graduating Mt. Hermon High School, Claude then went on to box as a middleweight for 2 years at Louisiana State University. Claude married his High School sweetheart Bettye Lou Holiday on August 10th 1956. Claude worked at multiple things until he found his calling with Brown & Root and started a 38 year career building bridges throughout Southeast Louisiana and working in the refineries as well. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60+ years, Bettye Lou Smith, who has been with him throughout the many years of marriage, both good times and bad. Claude will also leave behind his daughters, Sandy Smith Vicknair, Cheryl Smith Braud – wife of Michael Braud, and his son, Ronnie Eugene Smith, husband of Michele (Heller) Smith. He had dedicated his life to his grandchildren Krystle Vicknair, Reeve Kirkland, Corinne Kirkland, Abigail Smith, Ryan Smith and his one great grandchild, Waylyn Vicknair. He will be deeply missed by his two siblings Martha Alford-wife of Pete Alford and Walter Smith-husband of Diane Wine and his special uncle Fleet Smith Junior with whom he has built a lasting and enduring relationship throughout the years as well as his many nieces and nephews. Claude Smith will have visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, 501 Avenue G, Kentwood, La. on Monday January 21st from 10 am until religious services at 12 Noon where we will then proceed to Mount Hermon Cemetery for a farewell service and his final resting place here on Earth.

 

 

 

Charles Robert Eldridge, Jr.

March 27, 1939 – January 15, 2019

A resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in Hammond, LA. He was born March 27, 1939 in Amite, LA and was 79 years of age. He is survived by 2 daughters, Christina Calmes and husband Terry, Dana Lynn Robin and husband Josh; 1 son, Charles “Chaz” Eldridge, III and wife Wendy; 6 grandchildren, Sean Eldridge and wife Shelby, Tori Lynn Eldridge, Anthony “ Brit” Calmes, Andrew “Bradley” Calmes and wife Wendy, Holly Storey, and Robert Storey; 5 great grandchildren, Savannah, Luscian, Gabriel, Roman, and Cheyenne. Preceded in death by parents, Charles Sr. and Mamie Eldridge; wife, Lois Eldridge; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Minette Holstead and Bobbie Lee Darouse. Visitation at the First United Methodist Church, Amite, from 1 p.m. until Memorial Services at 3p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Pray for many of our college age students who will be beginning a new semester of college or trade school.

 

 

 

FBC, Greensburg started their own senior adult ministry similar to “Young at Heart” at New Zion.  Greensburg’s group is named “Just Older Youth – JOY” . Kentwood’s “Young” Ladies Birthday Party will meet January 22 at the Burger Basket in Oyska.

 

 

 

The associational WMU meeting will be a week from today at East Fork.  The meeting will honor WMU ladies who passed away during 2018.   The meeting will begin at 10:00, with the leadership meeting at 9:00.  A covered dish meal will be enjoyed by all at meeting.

 

 

 

 

Operation Christmas Child needs can be purchased in January.  The organization suggests  hat, scarves. and gloves for January purchases.  Of course, any items you find for a good sale price are always accepted and appreciated.  Items can be brought to my Sunday School classroom, next to thee choir room, during the week or before Sunday School.  Thanks for helping in 2019, just like you have done in all previous years.

 

 

 

The Youth on Mission will be collecting cans of soup the day of the Super Bowl.  The soup will be given to the Hope Center for their pantry so they can meet emergency needs.

Pray for Phillip Strickland.  One of his cousins said Phillip is hospitalized in Covington.

 

 

 

Yesterday was seven years since Koltyn Gafford had half his brain removed to prevent his almost constant seizures.  It worked like a charm!  Thank God for all the improvement Kolton has been able to make since then.

 

 

 

Pray for Glen Magee, Sr. as he goes for pre-op work tomorrow and surgery Tuesday.  The surgery is tentatively set for 1 P.M.

 

 

 

Owen Wilkinson, the son of Shane and April, is in Children’s Hospital, New Orleans with very high sugar count.  Pray for Owen and his family as they await a diagnosis and treatment plan.

 

 

 

Mr. John Bond of the Gillsburg area fell.  After some stitches, he stayed overnight for observation.  Pray for the Bond family while Mr. John is recovering.

 

 

 

Dee Dee Stokes Gill continues to recover from the stroke she had Christmas Day.  Please keep praying for her.

Pray for Frances Gay, please.   She caught the flu and has to wait for knee surgery.  Pray she can get past the flu quickly.

 

 

 

Shane Wilkinson had a wreck yesterday because he blood sugar got too low.  He is okay, but his vehicle is not.  Thank God Shane is okay.

 

 

Bro. Rusty Durant’s father-in-law passed away.   Please be in prayer for Melissa and other family members.

 

 

The Hope Center is in need of volunteers, male and female, to help while Sylvester is having treatment and Shirley is with him.  Please call to learn their needs and volunteer.  Prayers for Sylvester and Shirley are greatly appreciated.
