Sunday is the day to bring quart-sized frozen good to church.  It will be delivered to a family Sunday afternoon.  Thanks for supporting this project the first Sunday of each month.  You can drop the food off in my Sunday School room before Sunday School.

Hope Center in Roseland plans to open on the 16th.  There will be a training session TOMORROW at 10:00 at the building on highway 51 at 10:00 followed by a lunch.

Tomorrow night, at prayer meeting at FBC, K, a new ministry based on Sunday School classes will begin.  Prayer meeting begins at 6:00.  Try to be there to work with your class in the Touch Ministry.

September 13 and 27th will be craft days to make items for Operation Christmas Child.  Children, youth, and adults are encouraged to attend.

There are a few more “ornaments” on the Christmas tree at church.  Please pray about checking these out so you might be able to make purchases for the “shoeboxes”.

Operation Christmas Child

  • At a distribution in Trinidad and Tobago, there was a little girl who wanted to be a doctor one day. She had always wanted a First Aid Kit and was amazed to find one in her shoebox gift. She praised God for His special attention to her!
  • There was a nine year old boy in Guatemala who always carried his books to school in a plastic bag. The other children would laugh at him and tease him about using the bag. The little boy thanks God and OCC for the beautiful knapsack he received in his shoebox and for transforming the other children’s taunting into admiration.
  • “The kids at our church sent letters with their shoebox gifts last year and so far we have received 2 letters back. This is one of them. It’s from Malawi.” – Melissa H.
  • It’s time to answer another frequently asked question! Many of you want to know what age/gender we receive the most/fewest boxes for?
In general, we receive more boxes for girls than boys. Overall, we receive the most shoebox gifts for girls 5-9. We receive the fewest number of boxes for boys 2-4 and 10-14.

Operation Christmas Child

Majel Dean has started making tote bags to hold clothes, toys, or even the OCC shoeboxes later.  She needs help with fabric, ribbon, and cutting.  Each tote requires a 12.5 inch by 40 inch rectangle.  She could also use some grogain ribbon and cotton clothesline cording, etc. for the ties.  Each tote requires two pieces 33 inches long for the tie.  If you can help, please bring the fabric and cording to FBC, Kentwood.  The totes will be folded and placed inside the totes until the children get their boxes.

I hope you have found a way to create something for the boxes.  If you need ideas check out some of the OCC  sites on Pinterest.  There are still “ornaments” on the Christmas tree at church if you would like to purchase some gifts for the boys and girls.

One young  man selected his ornaments and then enlisted various family members to help with the purchases.  He has been trained to know the importance of missions and the good the shoeboxes do around the world.  He involved his family with him.  Good training and a wonderful involvement.  Do you need to involve a family member, child or youth,  in helping others?

Mrs. Nancy Whitebol and Dr. Kent Brantley were the two ebola patients hospitalized in Atlanta, but are now well.  She was released Tuesday and he was released Thursday.  Thank God for these answers to our prayers.

Ray Blackwell is fighting to regain he can.  Pray with him and his family that he will continue to improve.

Joe Easley is in Greensburg hospital with more problems.  Jean  continues to be in rehab.  Pray for this family.

Yvonne Curtis was here last night and shared her beautiful singing ability despite time spent yesterday with her cardiologist.  She has a problem that will be addressed, but sang beautifully to the Lord last night and said she would continue to do so as long as she has breath.  Pray for a solution will keep her healthy.

Our help has been requested to help clean and prepare the building that will be the Hope Center.  I will let you know the date.  Contact me if you will be willing to help.

David and I are so blessed by all who make the Third Thursday meetings so awesome. Once again there was a good group, new people, and a number of churches represented, but mostly it was the sweet Spirit of God that visited last night.

“For just as rain and snow fall from heaven

and do not return there

without saturating the earth

and making it germinate and sprout,

and providing seed to sow and food to eat,

so My word that comes from My mouth

will not return to Me empty.”

* Praise God that a 69-year-old woman in China, fascinated as a teenager by a people group featured in a film, just completed training in reaching the unengaged and spent her first 100 days in their village–and 53 members of that people group received Christ as their Savior!

* Pray for teams of local believers in East Asia who are venturing out, most for their first time, in obedience to God’s call to take the Gospel to unreached people groups within their own country.

* Praise the Lord that in recent weeks, there has been evidence of revival among the nursing students at Bangalore Baptist Hospital in India!

* Please pray for those in the state of Gujarat, India, who have been working for some time to produce accurate, understandable translations of Scripture in the Gujarati language so they can be used in evangelism and discipleship and be made available for all believers.

Operation Christmas Child

  • “A 4-year-old named Jeremiah received a shoebox gift at a distribution in India. In the box he received a shirt, balloons, flip flops, crayons, and toys. This gift was extra special to Jeremiah as it was his birthday. Without the box, he would not have received any gifts on his birthday as his family could not afford them. Praise God to those who give these special gifts to children!”                                                                                                                                         ~ OCC Volunteer in India~
  • “This year we visited remote villages in Lithuania. I should admit that I have never seen such poverty yet so much joy and thankfulness. One boy received the shoebox and was standing amazed – he couldn’t believe that the whole box was for him! We told him to believe and encouraged him to trust the Lord Jesus whose Love is so big, much bigger than the shoebox. The boy smiled and hugged the shoebox. It was so nice that our kids were together with us in this mission of love. When they came home their impressions turned into praises to the Lord for His goodness and love.”                                                                                                ~ OCC Volunteer~
