Sunday

“I call on You, God,

because You will answer me;

listen closely to me;

hear what I say.”

~Psalm 17:6, HCSB~

Thankfulness Day 9:  Today, I am thankful for Hope Center.  What a benefit this place has already been to those who have received food, shopped, etc.!   In such a short time, Hope has given hope and love to many families  In addition, the people there are ALL VOLUNTEERS, yet not a day has rolled around that Hope wasn’t adequately staffed with some special Christian people.  Not a day goes by that we cannot easily give away crosses, Bibles, and Christian literature.  I’m thankful I can be involved.  I’ve been so blessed!

Please pray for these people who are hospitalized:

  • Bud Callihan – Hammond
  • Bobby Lawson – McComb
  • Chris Wales – Baton Rouge
  • Don Dickinson – Baton Rouge
  • Anne Hurst  – Greensburg
  • Macy Gueldner – Baton Rouge

If you have prepared your Sunday School lesson, you may find this devotional refers to the same Joseph.  The lesson is “Overcome Hard Times”.  That we all can do if we let God have control.

Have a Sunday that is beautiful in every way.

Wednesday Evening

Update on Mallory Hatchel

She’s spending a second night in the hospital.  She’ll be at home for a couple of weeks with home health before returning to school.

Johnny Santangelo

From Megan:
“We met with Lil Man’s radiation oncologist this morning. After looking at the MRI and assessing Lil Man, he still thinks the area they are watching is just pseudoprogression. Lil Man is asymptomatic and feeling great! The perfusion portion of the MRI is not back yet so we will still have to wait on those results. The doctors have cleared Lil Man to go home and he will follow up again in a month. They are very pleased with how he is doing and told him to continue whatever he is doing! We all know the power of prayer and God Almighty are why he is doing so well!! Praise God!! We love you all and thank you for the continued prayers!!” Thanks to all for everything! , Hunter

Donna Fay Miller is continuing to have medical tests and medication changes.  Pray her issues will be resolved soon.

Baptist Friendship House

It is so amazing to watch relationships form and grow with the individuals that come to get snack packs and hygiene kits each week. For some of the people it isn’t just about getting the much needed items placed in the packs. It’s more about getting to spend time in conversation with people that truly care about them and what is happening in their lives. One man comes all the way across town on his bike just to spend time with us. Others, simply enjoy a place to sit down, eat a snack, and read the newspaper. Pray for each person that comes to receive the snack packs and hygiene kits and for the relationships that continue to grow between them and our volunteers and staff.

Tuesday

“I have made you a light for the Gentiles

to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.”

~Acts 13:34b, HCSB~

Thankfulness, Day 4:  Today, I want to add friends.  There are many of you.  Some are my age, some older, and some younger.  You live in Kentwood,  Roseland,  Amite,  Fluker, Osyka, Greensburg, and many other places.  We are connected through my school days, my school teaching days, churches, mutual friends, and other ways.  I just know you are there for me with a smile, a hug, a kind word, or a bit of encouragement.  Thank-you, God, for blessing me with so many friends!

Sherry Day shared her big news – NO CANCER!  She received the call yesterday afternoon.  Her family, friends, and many who don’t even know her have prayed.  Thank-you to each one for the prayers.  Thank-you, God, that you still have things for Sherry to do here on earth.

Another neighbor, Chris Wales, will be having surgery this afternoon.   It will be a “spinal decompression and fusion at 3:30 at the BRGenBluebonnet”.   Please pray for Chris and the family.

Continue to pray for Mr. Bobby Lawson who is in the V.A. Hospital in Jackson.

Johnnie “Lil-Man” Santangello will be having a MRI in Arizona this afternoon.  Pray that it shows improvement in treatment of his brain tumor.

Bert C. Sanchez, 59 – http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/theadvocate/obituary.aspx?n=bert-c-sanchez&pid=173033850&

Today at 11:00 at The Cafe, we will celebrate the birthday of some special “young” ladies from church.  How special this day is each month.

I’m happy to say that FBC, K has surpassed their goal for the Georgia Barnett Offering for State Missions.  Our goal was $8,000, but we have $9,236.30.  Giving directly to the mission offerings means that 100% goes to missions.  You can still give even though we have achieved our goal.  In fact, you can give to any of our mission offerings any time of the year. Thank-you for realizing the importance of missions!

It was great to be a part of the Baptist Women’s Day of Prayer yesterday.  Cora Morris at Hillsdale does a good job of involving ladies from a number of churches.  The fact that women all around the world were praying for the same thing on the same day was so inspiring.

Hope Center is continuing to do well.  There are 212 people signed up for the food bank and numerous regular customers at the store.  Needs are being met.  If you have any appliances, furniture, or household items, we can find them a new home.  Thanks to all who have volunteered to serve on a regular basis or to come when called.  You make the scheduling process so much easier.

  • “Does Jesus Care?” http://cyberhymnal.org/htm/d/o/doesjeca.htm

    • I hope this song comes to you on a day when you need them.

Monday

“Let your light shine before men

in such a way that they may see your good works,

and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

~Matthew 5:16, NASB~

Thankfulness – Day 3: I‘m thankful for Operation Christmas Child because it is a way to send shoeboxes of gifts and JESUS to needy children all around the world.   Being able to share the material goods is a real blessing, but sending Christian literature in the appropriate language and at the appropriate age level is such a ministry.  Thank-you, Rev. Franklin Graham for giving us this opportunity for the past 20 years.

Today is the World Day of Prayer for Christian Women.  Kedron Baptist Church will host us at 10:00 this morning.  After the meeting, we will have lunch together so we can visit.  Pray for Christians around the world as they share Jesus.

Glenda McKean is home recovering from rotator cup surgery.  Pray for her during the six weeks she will be unable to use her right arm.  Thank-God for a God who has provided a way to have our bodies healed from some of the things that slow us down and make us miserable.  As you use your favored arm, please remember her as she tries to do everything with her left arm and hand.

Pray for our friend and neighbor, Sherry Day, as she gets the results of last Wednesday’s biopsy.  She and her family would appreciate your prayers today.

I know of numerous people undergoing medical tests/procedures this week.  Mrs. Ashley Statham, Mrs. Theople Hurst and Mrs. Donna Fay Miller are among that number.  Please pray for them.

Kathy Wales asks us to pray for Chris as he has “a spinal decompression and fusion on Tues afternoon around 3:30 at the BR General on Bluebonnet”.   Pray his recovery time is not difficult and goes by quickly.  Pray for Chris as he tries not to do some of the things he is accustomed to doing now.

There was a fire in the Chesbrough area that destroyed the home a family was renting.  Yesterday, I needed to know a little more before sharing the information.  Last night, God sent the family to The Lord’s Church where I had the opportunity to speak with them.  It was C.J. Williams, Cory Didon’s younger brother.  The family, with six children, is staying with C.J’s mother east of Tangipahoa.  Pray for them today as they look for a place to live and make many important decisions.  Thank God for those who have been willing to help and have already done so.

Gold City and Andy Taylor were both very good last night.  I haven’t “tapped out” so much music in a long time.  What a blessing The Lord’s Church provided to our area last night.  It was good to see so many Christian friends of various faiths in one building.

Remind the ladies of FBC,K of the birthday party tomorrow at the Cafe at 11:00.  All ladies are invited to attend.

Sunday

First, be aware of the time change this morning.  If you didn’t set the clocks back last night, you should do so now, but if you don’t you can go on to church an hour early and enjoy the extra time to read your Bible and pray.  That wouldn’t be a bad idea after all.

“Everyone should be quick to listen,

slow to speak

and slow to become angry,

because human anger does not produce

the righteousness that God desires.

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth

and the evil that is so prevalent

and humbly accept the word planted in you,

which can save you.”

~James 1:19b-21 NIV~

Forgiving others is a BIG thing.  It is certainly not a Godly trait to hold grudges.

THANKS!

So many people contributed to the shoeboxes, to packing them, and to shipping them.  We were a little short of our goal for shipping, plus we packed an extra ten boxes so we will need a little extra money today ($7.00/box).  Our church set and surpassed an all time record for the number of boxes packed.  The children who receive these boxes will be so blessed by all the treasures they find.  My hope is that they also find Jesus!

Mrs. Theople Hurst came to church yesterday afternoon to help prepare the boxes for the packing party and stayed until every one was ready for deliver.  Pray for her as she continues trying to get a diagnosis and treatment for her recent health issue.

Gold City and Andy Taylor

It’s not ofter a group such as Gold City comes to the Kentwood area, so make your plans to be at The Lord’s Church at 6 P.M. tonight.  To add some “icing” to the event, Andy Taylor will be singing during the intermission for Gold City.  Tickets were not sold. Donations will be received tonight.

Hope Center had another good week.  We have learned that appliances and furniture are in big demand.  If you have something and cannot transport it, please call Hope to make arrangements for a pick up.  The number there is 247-2235.  Remember, they are not open of Monday, but work half a day on Saturday.  Thanks for volunteering and for making purchases there.  So many people are being blessed.  The number of people signed up for the food bank is more than two hundred!  We are providing better and better boxes each time.

Devotional, Scripture, and a Song

“O Lord Almighty,                                                                                                                                                                  blessed is the man who trusts in You.”                                                                                                                                                                 ~Psalm 84:11-12~

Reminder:  Tuesday the “young” ladies of FBC,K will celebrate the October birthdays.  We had to delay this by a week, but will meet Tuesday at 11:00 at The Cafe.  Join us for a sweet time with a number of ladies from the church.

Reminder number 2:  Today is the day to bring your frozen  food for a family.  Please bring your quart size filled bags to my Sunday School classroom before Sunday School.  The food will be delivered this afternoon.  Your efforts will greatly assist the people!

Have a blessed day!

Saturday

in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship,

in the breaking of bread,

and in prayers.

And the Lord added to the church daily

Mrs. Theople Hurst is thankful to be home.  Today, she will have some testing done as they try to determine what her problem was.  Pray all goes well.

Jadon’s Journey

As a parent with a child with a rare diagnosis, I can so relate to this. I have spent many hours researching in order to find the best help possible for Jadon. I’m very thankful that his doctors not only listen to me, but research themselves to find the best treatments and therapies for Jadon. If it wouldn’t have been for the research we have done, Jadon wouldn’t be where he is today. So thankful!

Maggie Lee Henson passed away due to injuries she suffered when the church bus she was riding on had a tire issue that caused a wreck.  Her parents kept us updated as we all prayed for healing.  God healed Maggie Lee in heaven.  Her parents have made good things happen because of the years they had Maggie Lee living with them.
