Georgia Faye Garner Stafford

Oct 9, 1938 – Sep 13, 2019 (Age 80)

Georgia Faye Garner Stafford, a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Baton Rouge. She was born October 9, 1938 in Kentwood and was 80 years of age. She was the owner of Stafford Accounting and Tax Service in Kentwood for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Stafford; 2 sons, Dwayne Stafford and wife, Kathy, and David Stafford and wife, Jean; 5 grandchildren, Ashlee Rae Stafford, Austin Stafford, Dawson Stafford, Caleb Stafford, and Avery Stafford; special niece, Jodi Meisner and husband, Beau, and their children, Cole, Quinn, Elizabeth, and Kade; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Ray Stafford; parents, George and Emily Phillips Garner; four sisters, Susanna Sibley, Lola Whitehead, Dorothy Travis, and Mary Jo Mergen White; three brothers, R. Edward Garner, Phillips Garner, and Jeffie Garner.  Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2019.   1. Fall Food Round-Up for the LA Baptist Children’s Home The truck will be in Kentwood early tomorrow morning, so bring your donations in today.
  2. The Two Rivers Associational WMU meeting will be tomorrow at Hillsdale at 10 A.M.  It’ll be a great, informative meeting with Katie Huto McElveen speaking.
  3. Today begins our Week of Prayer for Louisiana Missions.  I hope you will take your brochure home and use it to pray each day this week.  I think it will guide you heart as you give this year.
  4. Shoebox time is right around the corner.  We will plan to work painting pictures inside each box next week.  I assure you that your painting skill or lack of painting skill will not be a problem.  I have an easy method for those who think they can’t paint.  Meet in the fellowship hall at 9 A.M. Saturday.  Bring a smile and a willing spirit.  I’ll have everything else you need.

Ben Smith is still hospitalized in New Jersey, but should be able to leave the hospital soon.  His parents are still by his side.  The doctor said his gall bladder was really bad.  Thankfully, he got medical care when he did.  Pray for other family members too.

 

 

 

We will NOT be painting shoeboxes Saturday because of the services for Mr. Gaylon.  That project will be rescheduled.

Wednesday – Another Obituary

Gaylon Earl Cutrer

October 11, 1938 – September 11, 2019

Mr. Gaylon Earl Cutrer, 80, of Kentwood, MS, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at his residence.  He was born on October 11, 1938, in Kentwood, LA, to Marshall T. and Ruth McGregor Cutrer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kentwood; served his country in the US Army; worked for many years as the owner of Cutrer’s Slaughter House; was a school bus driver for Tangipahoa Parish School System for 25 years; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and primitive survival skills, finding arrow heads, and spending time with his family. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Grady Cutrer (Sr.), Percy Cutrer, Amos Cutrer, Douglas Cutrer and Frank Cutrer; and infant brother, Raymond L. Cutrer.

Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Ruth Myers Cutrer; sons, Ernest Earl “Joe” Cutrer (Lisa), Raymond Reid Cutrer (Brandy), and Kevin Kyle Cutrer (Cris); daughter, Sareptha Ellen “Cissy” Cutrer; grandchildren, Shane Joseph Cutrer (Shelby), Rafe Galen Cutrer, Remi Kathryne Cutrer, Reese Nicole Cutrer, Kevin Patrick Pinell, Lindsay Nicole Pinell, and Christopher Andrew Pinell; great-grandchildren, Kevon Pinell and Kaleb Pinell; nephews, Donald Ray Cutrer, Grady Cutrer, Jr. (Cheri), and Marshall Cutrer (Georgette); niece, Debbie Cutrer (Ricky); and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Kentwood in Kentwood, LA, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM with burial to follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery. Rev. Darryl Miller and Rev. Bill Boulton will be officiating the services with Catchings-Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers are Grady Cutrer Jr., Marshall Cutrer, Shane Cutrer, Christopher Pinell, Russ Tolar, and Tom Tolar. Honorary pallbearer is Rafe Galen Cutrer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Tammany Parish Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Cutrer’s name may be made to FBC of Kentwood Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

Fall Food Round-Up – If you have not yet contributed to the food drive for the LA Baptist Children’s Home, please do so before it is too late.  The truck will be at our church early Monday morning.

 

 

 

Mission Opportunities – Meet at the church Saturday morning at 9:00 to paint inside a shoe box so children will smile every time they open the box.  Boxes, paint, and other supplies will be provided.  Just give of your time!  Items for the shoe boxes are being counted and organized by groups.  Let’s all look forward to filling the boxes at the end of next month.  You’ll have an opportunity to help paint, fold boxes, fill boxes, etc. until the end of next month.  I hope you will  contribute of your time.  We will also be collecting money for the shipping of the boxes.  That’s only $9.00, which is a bargain!  I know because I have shipped many boxes overseas.  I was never able to mail any package for only $9.00!  You can give your contribution to the church by marking it “OCC Postage”.  Thanks so much.

Please pray for Pete Hughes of Roseland.  He will be having open heart surgery tomorrow to repair five blockages in his heart.

 

 

 

Buddy Waller was hospitalized because of heart blockages, but thankfully was found that they were not bad enough to require surgery.  (Thanks, James, for sharing this.).  Keep Buddy in your prayers as he continues his daily routine.

 

 

 

Ben Smith of Greensburg is hospitalized in New Jersey because of gall bladder surgery.  He had a lot of infection and inflammation which cause the surgery to be done “the old way”.

 

 

 

Jewell R. Eaves

June 27, 1937 – September 09, 2019

On September 9, 2019 at 2:30 AM, Jewell Randolph Eaves was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven. His wife and daughters were able to be in this peaceful moment knowing when he breathed his last breath, he was in Jesus’ arms. Known to others as JR, Sonny, dad, and grandpa, he was a great Christian man who was loved by many. JR was born 82 years ago on June 27th, 1937 in Texas. He served our country as a US Army 82 Airborne Paratrooper. He has worn many hats through his years, but his favorite ones were being a husband, father, granddad, and great grandpa. He wore those proudly. JR truly loved life and lived it to the fullest through the simple pleasures of fishing, hunting, farming, chicken raising, and watching over his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents Jewell Johnny and Nettie Mae Eaves and his brother Jerry and sister in law Pat Eaves. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Nadalee McNab Eaves, his sister Yvonne Woods, and his brothers Robert (Nancy) Eaves and Arthur (Sally) Beasley. He leaves a rich legacy starting with his children, his son Randy Eaves, and daughters Jennifer (Timmy) Thornton, Jolie (Scott) Gulledge, Joni (Garrett) Matherne, and Jamie Dehnel. He also leaves behind to carry on his humor, wisdom, and dreams- his 13 grand children- Nicole, Patrick, Travis, Jeremy, Justin, Allyssa, Jessica, Matthew, Katlyn, Ashton, Jacob, Natalee, and Aubrey and his 5 (and counting) great grandchildren. Family, friends, and others whose lives JR touched are invited to join us as we celebrate his life at Montpelier Baptist Church (2241 St. Helena Avenue. Montpelier, La 70422) on September 12th begining at 10 am. Services to follow at 12 PM and will be led by Bro Rusty Durand. The burial to follow in Montpelier Cemetery where he will be carried to his final resting place by his grandsons- Patrick Dehnel, Travis Thornton, Jeremy Dehnel, Justin Dehnel, Matthew Matherne, and Jacob Matherne. Even though we lay to rest the earthly body, we know JR is celebrating his joyous entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven to see friends and family. Connie Lee Madden Raborn

July 16, 1952 – September 08, 2019

Connie Lee Madden Raborn of Kentwood, Louisiana passed away September 8, 2019, surrounded by her family. Connie was born at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska on July 16, 1952, was a 1970 graduate of Fort Zumwalt High School, O’Fallon, Missouri, and a life-long Girl Scout. Connie married the love of her life, Sam Raborn, U.S. Air Force, Retired, on April 26, 1975, in Tucson, Arizona. She spent the next 20 years serving her country as a military wife, raising her three daughters, traveling the world, and participating in Girl Scouts. After retirement, they settled in Louisiana where Connie spent her time taking care of her cows, chickens, horses, and grandkids. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family. Connie was an active member of First Baptist Church of Arcola, where she enjoyed her ladies’ meeting and helping with Vacation Bible School. Connie was loved by everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger, and she spent her life caring for others, especially her beloved husband. She loved researching her family history, often traveling the world to follow in their footsteps. She was a friend and “mom” to everyone she met. Connie is preceded in death by her mother, Rose Lee Oetting Madden; her father, William Lee Madden, Sr.; her mother-in-law, Margaret Jones Raborn; and her father-in-law, Loid Noel Raborn. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Samuel Merwin Raborn; her daughters Margaret Elizabeth Raborn Andrews (Eric); Angela Darlene Raborn Stone (Rob); and Renee Sandra Raborn Molland (Quincy); her grandchildren, Dusty, Dakota, Ethan, Erica, Luke, Ella Rose, Samantha, Addison, Colleen, and Parker; her sisters, Dawn Carrigg and Susan Cleveland; her brothers, William Madden, Jr., and Shawn Madden; numerous nieces and nephews; her life-long best friend, Sandy Stefanski; and many, many more friends and family. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Arcola on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM and on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 10:00AM until the funeral service at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Osyka Cemetery, Osyka, MS. There have been baptisms and will be more baptisms in our area churches.  Yesterday, as I was getting bread and milk a teenager I know from another church proudly told me she will be baptized today in her church.  I think that is exciting for her and her family.  I know others who have invested in this teen’s life.  We never know when decisions will be made, but are always so thankful when they are made.  Today, let’s thank God for the decisions that have been made and pray for others to be made.  The teen who shared with me yesterday certainly made my day!  I pray that today will be a day for more decisions in our Kentwood area.

 

 

 

Thanks to Beth and Mary Anna Lee, as well as David, for helping with Operation Christmas Child yesterday.  We had a productive day.  It is a real blessing to work with others who have a heart for the “shoebox” ministry.  This week I hope some of you will check out Office Depot where notebooks are ten cents and Dirt Cheap where they are twenty-five cents.  I bought notebooks at Dirt Cheap and read about the ones at Office Depot.  There may be other locations with good prices, but everywhere else I looked they were from $1.00 to $2.99.  Pray the availability holds out until people have enough for their shoeboxes and for family use too.

Mr. Frank Erwin is better.  I hope he will be able to be in church today.  Kenneth Birch  and the Dillons were back in church last week.  Bryan Tate, Buddy Morris, and David Alford were all there.  It’s wonderful to see how God’s people return to church as soon as they physically can after an illness or surgery.

This morning I would like to add the name of Toni Holland of Greensburg.  Toni has had surgery for a newly diagnosed problem.  Pray for this energetic, young lady with a lovely, caring personality.

 

 

 

Pray for an unnamed young man who is struggling with some health issues.

 

 

 

With the help of one of my young friends, seventeen shoeboxes were packed yesterday afternoon.  These are for some of you who paid shipping costs.    I have more to pack Monday.  I’m so thankful for those of you who helped make/purchase the items used in the boxes. Those mission project days are paying off in a big way!  What a blessing you are to lots of children around the world!

 

 

To the “Youth on Mission” who helped pack the backpacks last Sunday, the boxes are now in the Appalachians and will soon be in the hands of some young people who will really be able to use the items the backpacks.  Thanks for being a part of a great ministry.

ASK God to continue his great work at Philadelphia at Horseshoe Drive.

ASK God to use the funds given through the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering to revitalize other churches that are struggling across our state.

“Can these dry bones live?” This was the question God asked Ezekiel over 2,500 years ago. Ezekiel replied, “Sovereign Lord, only you know.” God has a passionate desire to breathe life into places where His Spirit moved mightily in past years.

Imagine a church so packed in the ‘70s that, in order to accommodate the crowds, chairs had to be placed in the aisles. This was Horseshoe Drive Baptist Church in the ‘70s. This church knew how to think big.

This didn’t last though. As the years went by, Horseshoe experienced a steady decline. But a small group of members, grieved by the state of their church, surrendered to do whatever it would take to see God breathe life into a once thriving faith community.

With the leadership of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Deville and some funds provided by the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering, Horseshoe Drive is once again growing and impacting their community. New visitors are showing up at their doors and the waters of the baptistry are stirring.

These faithful members asked, “Can these dry bones live again?” God answered with a resounding, “YES.” What does God wa

nt to resurrect in your life and church? Remember, it’s not over when God is in it.

Please pray for Mrs. Grace Chadwick, a patient at the nursing home in Greensburg.  “Miss” Grace is their oldest patient and the oldest friend David and I have.  She is very sick today and has been moved to ICU.  The family will be most appreciative of your prayers.

 

 

Mr. Jimmy Tolar was a patient at Hood Memorial yesterday..  Pray for Mr. Jimmy and his family.

 

 

Thank God for a place and medical staff close to home to care for these two.
