Ronnie Nielsen was hosted for a meal in a church that he helped “plant” ten years ago in Romania.  He also has had numerous opportunities to share the gospel through an interpreter.  Pray for the team as they continue their mission trip.

 

 

Glen Magee will be having surger on a date not yet determined.  Pray for him as he waits to be placed on the surgery schedule.

 

 

Betty Taylor’s cataract surgery and recovery went well.  Pray for her as she plans for the other eye to have surgery Thursday in McComb.

 

 

Maddie’s Miracles 

 Maddie is about the same. They added some meds and took some meds away. She will eat crackers and broth and a baked potato today if she even gets hungry. They will start with scrambled eggs and toast in the morning. If that stays in she can go home tomorrow if not she will have to stay until they figure this out. Thanks for the love and prayers.

Amber Prine Ragan “We’re In This Together”

Amber and I spent the full day at MD Anderson on Wednesday. This was her 3 week follow-up visit after radiation treatment. She had a pulmonary function test, blood work, and a MRI done before we met with Dr. DeGroot in the afternoon. He said that everything looked good and the treatment plan is going accordingly. He has agreed to let Dr. Olsen in Baton Rouge manage her chemo treatments. However, he still wants her to return back to MDA for routine MRIs and bloodwork during the time she will be on chemo. That will be every six weeks for 8-9 months. We were in hopes that he would release Amber completely, but we are grateful for the positive results. We completely trust Dr. DeGroot’s decision and it comforts us to know that he will be monitoring her scans and blood levels during treatment.
Amber will meet with Dr. Olsen this afternoon at the Neuro Medical Center in Baton Rouge to get the next step in her treatment journey started. The chemo treatment is called PCV. It is a combination of 2 oral medications along with infusions. The chemo regimen will consist of 6 cycles (42 days for each cycle). After each cycle, she will return back to MD Anderson for routine assessments and to meet with Dr. DeGroot.
We were able to view yesterday’s MRI along with a MRI that was done before surgery. It was very visible to see the amount of the tumor that was extracted during surgery. We’ve been looking forward to seeing the comparison in the scans.
Once again, thank you for all your prayers and support. Amber continues to amaze all of us with her strength and positive attitude. She returned back to work the week after radiation ended. She is back to a normal life and is rocking her “punk” hairstyle!

Maddie’s Miracles
Maddie and Nana had a long quiet day. Maddie slept most of the day. They still have no idea what’s going on. Blood pressure has been a little low said she maybe dehydrated. We are so thankful Nana was able to come stay with her so we can work this week. She is one of our greatest blessings. We will just wait and see what tomorrow brings. They will not let her eat because she gets so sick when she does. She’s not hungry anyway so that is also a blessing. Remember blessings are always around no matter your circumstance! God is so very good ALL the time!
Brian Tate starts round three of his treatments at M.D. Anderson today.   Pray all goes well for him as he has these treatments.
Mrs. Bessie Hayden has been moved from OLOL to North Oaks Rehab.   I’m sure she is happy to be closer to Kentwood.  Check on visiting hours before you make a visit with her.

Obituary for Orin Patterson

Orin Patterson, age 19, of 343 Chestnut Ridge Road, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Mike and Beth Council Patterson. Orin was a 2018 graduate of Laurens District 55 High School and was a freshman at Clemson University. He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Orin was adventurous and an avid outdoorsman, who had many interests including blacksmithing, playing piano, and free-diving.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his three siblings, Hope Patterson, Cade Patterson, and Quin Patterson; paternal grandmother, Jean Patterson; maternal grandparents, Earl and Nadine Council; and a host of loving and supportive extended family members and friends.

Orin was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John R. Patterson.

A Celebration of Orin’s Life will be held at 4:30 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alex D. Henderson. The family will host a gathering in the church fellowship hall immediately following the celebration service.

The family respectfully requests privacy in the days leading up to the Celebration and Gathering on Thursday. They would appreciate your prayers in the days ahead.

Operation Christmas Child – I plan to be at FBC, Kentwood at 1:30 this afternoon if anyone wants to help me work with the “shoeboxes” today.  I plan to be there again in the morning at 9:00 to work some more.  I plan to have a good count of shoeboxes for Sunday.  Collection week is November 12 – 19 this year.  I’ll have a sign-up schedule for those who want to help then at church Sunday.

 

 

The Youth on Mission class has learned how to tell their first Bible story.  They will not meet this Sunday due to Trunk or Treat, but the following week they will begin work on learning their second Bible story.  It’s never too late to learn to share God’s Word.

Operation Christmas Child “Shoeboxes”

Members of FBC, Kentwood can turn their “shoeboxes” in to me or to the church office.  FBC, Kentwood will again serve as a collection site for others.  That will be November 12-19.  Check the Samaritan’s Purse website for the locations near you and the time each site will be open.

Maddie’s Miracles

(Written Sunday afternoon)

Maddie has an appendix and it is fine!! She has mesenteric adenitis which means the lymph nodes in her mesentary are swollen again. They are going to treat them with anti inflammatory meds. They said it normally takes about 48 hours for the pain to go away. She can’t normally take anti inflammatory meds because of her kidney so she will have to get labs this week to keep a check on her kidney. We are thankful for no surgery and your prayers are most appreciated. Please keep them coming as she is still in pain. God is good ALL the time!

Prayers for Maddie are appreciated. She is on her way back to the ER. She has a high fever. Her kidney doctor said the adenitis can be caused from infection so they will have to figure out what is going on. Prayers they figure it out quickly as she is miserable. I will post as soon as I know something

If you have OCC “shoeboxes” to turn in, but sure to hand them to me or leave them in the church office.  The collection dates are November 12-19.  That’s when the boxes from individuals, clubs, schools, and other churches are turned in.  Once again, Kentwood will be a collection site.

Mr. Jimmy Tolar is home now after five long and difficult weeks in the hospital.  Thank God for this good report.

 

 

Robbie Lynn Kirby broke her arm.  Pray for healing and comfort during the healing.

 

 

Colleen Strickland is improving, but prayers are still needed.  She is at Hood Memorial.

 

 

Phillip Strickland also needs prayers,  Please continue to pray for this young man and his family.

 

 

Frances Gay got a good report this week.  Thank God for that.  Pray for her as she goes through six months until  the next check-up.

 

 

Pray for Andy and Betty Taylor.  She will have cataract surgery on her eyes in the coming weeks.  Andy will be searching for a new doctor because his doctor is leaving McComb.

 

 

Pray for Buddy and Eleanor Morris.  He had to get two unit of blood yesterday.  She is working to schedule hip surgery.

I want to give a few updates.

  • Glen Magee, Sr, will be having a biopsy in Covington this morning.  Please pray for him and his family.
  • Frances Gay will get test results Tuesday in Covington.  This is her check-up for the problems she has previously had.
  • Buddy Morris will have this three days of chemo in about a week and a half.
  • Eleanor Morris will be scheduling hip surgery that she had planned to have about the time Buddy got sick.  It’s time for her now.
  • David will be receiving test results of the bone marrow test this morning.  I’ll post something again later. At 6:45 last night we had a surprise guest arrive.  Our daughter-in-law drove from Rome, Georgia to be with us today.  My sister, Julie, will also be with us.  Thank-you for your prayers today!

 

 

 

 

Albert W. Magee Jr.

Apr 5, 1945 – Oct 13, 2018 (Age 73)

CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Albert W. Magee, Jr., age 73, who passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his residence in Carencro.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Chaplain Bert Langley will officiate at the services.

Mr. Magee was born in Bogulsa, raised in Kentwood and was a former resident of Baton Rouge, having been a current resident of Carencro for over twenty years. He graduated from Southeastern University. Albert was employed with the Federal Land Bank for thirty two years where he retired as the C.E.O.

Survivors include his loving wife of twenty years, Cheryl Patin Magee of Carencro; two step sons, Miles Doré and his wife, Crystal, of Henderson and Bronson Girouard of Lafayette; one step daughter, Joanie Lillie and her husband, Troy, of Maurice; five step grandchildren, Faith Lillie, Devin Doré, Brayden Girouard, Brennan Girouard and Isabella Lillie; and one sister, Patricia Magee Humphries and her husband, Bennett of Baton Rouge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert William Magee, Sr. and the former, Jemima Roberts, both natives of Kentwood

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Who Will Be in Heaven Because of You?

 

 

Mr. Jimmy Tolar and family watched the LSU game from his hospital room.  They made the most of the day at OLOL.  Mr. Jimmy is continuing to improve with the rehab therapy he is receiving.  Please continue to pray for Mr. Jimmy and “Miss” Naomi.

 

 

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief people are on location and working to help the people who have so many needs caused by Hurricane Michael.  Pray for each volunteer that they are able to help in many ways, especially spiritually, in the coming months.  The need is great.  The volunteers are numerous and trained for the responsibilities they are assuming.  May God be glorified because of work done in the wake of the hurricane.

 

 

 

Tonight,  the Two Rivers Annual Associational Meeting will be held at Montpelier.  Most area Baptist churches will not have regularly scheduled activities so members can be at Montpelier.  Monday morning, the Two Rivers WMU will meet at FBC, Kentwood for a quarterly meeting focusing on mission projects.  I hope many of you will be able to be in attendance at both of these meetings.

 

 

 

I did some shopping for OCC school supplies.  Although I found a plentiful supply of many items, I came home with only one $1.00 calculator.  I hope you will be more fortunate than I was with calculator shopping.  After Monday, I’ll be setting a day for us to work on the new school supplies and get them packed in shoeboxes.  Stay tuned for that date.  The November collection dates will be here before long.  Let’s have our work finished so we can box our boxes the first week of November.  The national collection week is November 12-19.  If you have not returned the boxes you packed, please get them to the church in the next couple of weeks.  Thanks for your help with this project.If you have any questions about Operation Christmas Child, I will do my best to answer them.  If I can’t do that, I know several people who I can refer you to.

 

 

 

Our area churches will soon be collecting stamped Christmas cards for the inmates at the Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parish jails.  They will be due to the first Sunday of December.  I know of some people who have received a Christmas card that we have given.  Both the sender and the receiver were blessed by the cards.  The more cards we turn in, the more people who can/will be blessed.

Please continue to pray for all the people whose lives are forever changed because of Hurricane Michael this week.  This includes the victims and those who are there now and will be there in the future to help the people recover.  I know we all relate to their problems because of hurricanes we have experienced.  We can’t changes the storms of our lifetime, but we certainly can find ways to help those who have been in the storms.  One advantage of being a part of this recovery is to know that many of the volunteers there are Christians who have a special message of Christ’s love for the people.  Christian volunteers help others meet physical and spiritual needs.

February 24, 1961 – October 10, 2018

A resident of Franklinton passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born February 24, 1961 in McComb, MS and was 57 years of age. She was a devoted Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge for 23 years. She was an avid traveler and photography enthusiast. She is survived by her husband, Karl Rohrer; 3 children, Dana Perilloux, Kyle Newman, and Adam Rohrer; 2 grandchildren, Troy and Tyler Perilloux; mother, Lynda Hyde Spears; sister, Sheila Spears; 2 brothers, Trenton A. Spears, and Clint Spears; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Richard “Dickie” Newman; father, Troy A. Spears; and son, Jean-Paul Rohrer. Visitation at Spring Creek Baptist Church, 73072 Hwy. 1054, Kentwood, LA from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. until religious services at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 13, 2018.
