I’m home from the hospital. Three blood clots confirmed in left leg. Follow-up consultations on Monday. So thankful for great medical care and SUPER insurance. As Saul said in 1 Samuel 23:21, “The LORD bless you for your concern for me.” Thank you for praying.

Just a short note to bring you up-to-date on my latest soap inventory. As of today I possess:
– On the shelf under medicine cabinet – 18 Camay in 4 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 2.
– On the Kleenex dispenser – 11 Camay in 2 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 3.
– On the bedroom dresser – 1 stack of 3 Cashmere Bouquet.
– 1 stack of 4 hotel-size Ivory, and 8 Camay in 2 stacks of 4.
– Inside the medicine cabinet – 14 Camay in 3 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 2.
– In the shower soap dish – 6 Camay, very moist.
– On the northeast corner of tub – 1 Cashmere Bouquet, slightly used.
– On the northwest corner of tub – 6 Camays in 2 stacks of 3.
Please ask Kathy when she services my room to make sure the stacks are neatly piled and dusted. Also, please advise her that stacks of more than 4 have a tendency to tip. May I suggest that my bedroom window sill is not in use and will make an excellent spot for future soap deliveries. One more item, I have purchased another bar of bath-sized Dial which I am keeping in the hotel vault in order to avoid further misunderstandings.

It dawned on me that God is like those maids! Every day he sends us blessing after blessing. Whether we ask for them or not, whether we deserve them or not (“he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good”), whether we acknowledge them or not, we are absolutely flooded with blessings from a good and gracious God.

Mrs. Joan McIntyre Bartlett was born February 12, 1930 and passed away at 6:24 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 81, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Kentwood.
Mrs. Joan is survived by 2 daughters, Charlene B. Stogner and husband Eddie, Angie & Karen Calhoun and husband Richard, Kentwood; 3 sisters, Clodye McIntyre, Donice Blades & Sue Blades and husband Wiley all of Kentwood; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Stogner, Matthew Calhoun and wife Suzanna & Candice Thompson and husband Billy; 4 great-grandchildren, Jacie Bridges, Harlie Bridges, Cadie Bridges & Shelby Calhoun.

Prayer warriors. I’m asking for you to pray that Jadon starts feeling better. He is very nauseated and can’t eat or drink anything. Everytime he gets sick they have to move him and change his sheets which makes him hurt. Please pray that his stomach will get settled.
Boyd Hatchel was in less pain tonight. Pray for this to continue and for a cause of the blood clots to be found.
Mr. Cete Dillon is better, but “Miss” Ruby is not well yet.
There were three robberies in St. Helena this afternoon. Please be careful. Pray for those whose lives have been invaded and for those who seem to think this is okay.

Good afternoon everyone,
I wanted to give you an update on my visit with the surgeon today. (For some of you, this may be the first e-mail you’ve had from me about my recent health concerns. A little background, a scan right before Christmas showed some suspicious lymph nodes and I was referred to my surgeon here in Lancaster.)
The surgeon confirmed that I do indeed have some enlarged lymph nodes that need to be biopsied and he will be consulting with others in this field to determine the best way to go about this. I expect that this biopsy will be set up within the next few days, probably either in Pineville or Charlotte.
I do appreciate so much your continued prayers for wisdom for the doctors and for me, that I will have peace during this time of waiting, and that I would glorify the Lord in all things.
Love you all, and thanks again for praying and for all the words of encouragement you have shared with me. One dear friend from Kentwood said, “God knows your name!” Indeed he does!

Not so good, but staying positive
It’s been a really long night. I’m very agitated and have anxiety when they come in the room. My mommy and daddy stayed with me until about 12:00 then my daddy stayed the rest of the night. My aunt Mendy came about 6 and then my mommy came back around 7:30. I’m still nauseated. I’m also still mad that no one can hold me. I’m moving out of ICU today. When we get to the other room my mommy will be able to hold me. All of my seizures are coming from my left side still. This is great news. I’m having lots of seizures. Some are due to the trama and others bc I didn’t have any medicine yesterday. I’m back on my Meds so hopefully they will get better. We still do not have any results yet. All we know is that I’m spiking a whole lot on top of the 150-200 seizures we were seeing at home. We have to get these seizures to stop. They said that they are shooting over to my right side which has to be stopped. Please continue to pray. I have to be honest and tell you this is horrible. Yes God is giving us the strength to get through it but it feels like we are in a bad dream. I will leave you with some good news. First they said my swelling looks great. Not too much. Tomorrow will be the peak of the swelling. Next, our neurologist is on call this weekend at home and here in Detroit. Dr. C(neuro here) said not good for me but good for you. Lol. He said he is only on call ever 7 weeks. To me it’s just another sign that God is taking care of me. Love you all.

Leroy Wilson grew up in this area. Mike Moore is his son-in-law and the husband of Robin. Mike was found to have a melanoma behind one eye about a month ago. This is an update Robin just sent.
Dr just left our room. Mike is in recovery right now and I can’t wait to see him. They said he did great! He will need pain meds and something for nausea. It’s pretty common for some nausea due to messing with his eyes, but they don’t want him getting sick following this surgery. We will be heading back to Hope Lodge when they release him. Hugs to all of you for praying our family through this!!!
I’m thanking God surgery went well and earlier tests did not show any spread of the melanoma. A family heritage of deep faith is so important in times like this. Mike and Robin are surrounded by a church family to support them on this journey.
Boyd is now wearing a splint and a boot cast for a fracture he got while jogging out by our place. Pray the boot will slow him down long enough to get the foot get well.
Nice weather + country roads + running shoes = great exercise.
Old shoes + old man + uneven roads = stress fracture + splint + boot cast for six weeks.

Today is the 65th anniversary of the day Momma and Daddy got married. She wanted a big party. She celebrating in heaven while Daddy will be here with us for a traditional New Year’s meal. Pray for Daddy today.
I’m thanking God Carol New made it home after a successful knee surgery. Pray for her as she works to get that knee doing what she wants it to do.
FBC, Kentwood will have Sunday School and the morning worship service, but nothing tonight.
Thought for the Day: Failed resolutions
At the beginning of a New Year, a high school principal decided to post his teachers’ New Year’s resolutions on the bulletin board. As the teachers gathered around the bulletin board, a great commotion started. One of the teachers was complaining. “Why weren’t my resolutions posted?” She was throwing such a temper tantrum that the principal hurried to his office to see if he had overlooked her resolutions. Sure enough, he had mislaid them on his desk.
As he read her resolutions he was astounded. This teacher’s first resolution was not to let little things upset her in the New Year.
It has been said that “nothing is certain but death and taxes.” Perhaps we should add one more thing to that list of certainties — the breaking of New Year’s resolutions! Looking back on 2008, you may be one of the fortunate ones who accomplished exactly what you hoped to accomplish during the year. But, if you’re like most of us, you didn’t read all the way through the Bible like you intended to, you quit smoking but only for a while then picked up the habit again, or you lost a few pounds only to put them back on again when your diet failed. After experiencing this failure year after year, a person tends to say to himself, “What’s the use? Why even bother to try to make these changes?”
As an old Chinese proverb puts it, though, “Failure is not falling down. Failure is not getting back up.” Or as the Japanese put it, “Fall down seven times, get up eight.” If there are areas of your life that you’ve tried to improve and failed, let this this be the month that you try again. And if you fail this month, get up and try again next month. Learn from your mistakes and become stronger. God does not turn his back on the Christian who fails (if you question that, you need only look at the story of Peter’s denial of Christ). However, He cannot help the Christian who refuses to try any longer.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hearts, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded….Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4:7-8,10)
If you have made a resolution to develop a habit that will bring you closer to God or a resolution to get rid of a habit that is pulling you away from God, may God bless you with the strength to accomplish your goal. And, if you should stumble on your journey, may He pick you up and dust you off so that you can continue on the long journey of becoming like Christ.

Renee Deck is home after having rotator cuff surgery. Pray for recovery and healing to go well.
Carol New’s “permanent” knee replacement surgery will be on the 28th. Pray all continues to go well. Carol is ready to be able to walk again.
Thursday afternoon’s weather front sent a tornado through Rome, GA where Jason lives and works. He and his family are fine, but 20 homes are gone and another 120 damaged. I forgot the numbers he gave me for businesses, but some are gone and others are damaged. Cars on the highway were overturned, windows were blown out of cars, etc. Nobody was seriously injured. Thank God for protecting people despite the material damage. Pray for Rome as they work to recover from this tornado. You may remember Rome took in lots of families from New Orleans after Katrina. Now, Rome will be on the receiving end.
