Thursday Afternoon

Jennie’s Facebook post (just a few minutes ago)

Jennie Hatchel
We’re spending an unscheduled night in London. Now it looks like we’ll make it to Prague tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.

After the long delay in New Orleans, they missed the flight to London.  Now, they are waiting for a flight to Prague.  A 24 hour trip has turned into a 48+ hour trip.  God is still in control.  Keep praying for them as they try to get home!

Thursday

“God shall bless us,

and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.”

~Psalm 67:7~

Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell is hospitalized at North Oaks again.  Please pray for her, Mr. John Alan, and other family members.

Karen Miller’s mother now has a block for pain.  It seems to be working.

My aunt, Eva Smith, is hospitalized in Alabama.  She recently had her 90th birthday.  Pray for her family in Alabama and Louisiana as they wait to see what the day holds.

We don’t have any news from the Hatchels yet.  I hope that means they made the flight to London last night.  If so, they should have arrived there about daylight.  After customs and a layover, they will have one more flight.

Heart to Heart with Holley Gerth: What Keeps You and I Close

Posted: 30 May 2012 06:40 AM PDT

We sit on the last row of a country church. I squeeze Ann’s hand, hardly believing that I get to be here with her and her whole family. We have been friends for years now. Separated by geography and close in heart.

The elements are passed.

The bread. His body broken for us. And I smile in amazement at what God has done with two broken word girls. How he has seen fit to use us and make us whole.

The cup. His blood spilled out for us. And my heart fills with joy because I realize this is what joins us. This is how I came to be here in this little country church.

When she passes the cups to me, I lean in and whisper, “Blood sisters.”

That’s what we are.

She and I.

You and I too.

Blood sisters and brothers. Joined together in a way that’s even deeper than what flows through our veins. Of all God has given, the love we share with each other still stuns me most.

After the service we stand beneath trees and we capture this moment with cameras. We stand close to a cross as we do so. And it seems right.

We laugh, talk late into the night, share dreams and struggles. I tell her that her family is extraordinary. I tell her the more I see of her life the more beautiful she is to me. I tell her that I love her not just anyways but always.

All too soon we’re pulling away from the drive. But nothing can pull us apart.

Because that’s the way blood ties are.

And my heart swells with happiness and thanks at the miracle of it.

XO

Holley

Have a terrific Thursday.  Pray for the rain to come with all the lightning and thunder in God’s time.

Wednesday Update

The Hatchels’ first flight has been delayed until 4:46 due to bad weather at Dallas/Fort Worth.  Thank God for knowledge that allows flights to be delayed rather than to fly into bad weather.  Don’t think of this as a bad start.  Think of it as God’s protection!

Pam Alston shared the great news that her niece, Cali, got the good news today that her treatment is shrinking her cancer.  Continue to pray for Cali and her family.

Wednesday

“Blessed be God,

who has not turned away my prayer,

nor His mercy from me!

~Psalm 66:20~

Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell had several seizures yesterday and was admitted back into North Oaks.  Please continue to pray for her, Mr. John Alan, and the other family members.

The Hatchel’s first plane leaves New Orleans at 2 P.M.  Pray for all to go well as they prepare to leave the seminary this morning.  There are lots of friends to say good-bye to.

Tuesday Evening

Today, I had a MRI and saw the neurosurgeon who did my gamma knife surgery for the brain tumor.  My tumor is shrinking as he expected.  He said I could reduce my medication and to come back in one year.  Thanks for your many prayers on my behalf.  I walked into Oschner with no doubt of what I was going to hear about the good results of my surgery.  I fully expect the tumor to shrink even more in the next year.

While at Ochsner, we visited Marsha Bankston.  She was receiving blood and hoped to have a chemo treatment tomorrow and come home Thursday.  If she is unable to have the chemo, she will try again in a week.  Keep her in your prayers.

The Hatchels are packed and ready for their trip home to Prague.  They fly out about 2 P.M. for Dallas.  Then, overnight they will cross the Atlantic landing in London.  Their third flight will carry them to Prague.  Pray for good flights, no missed connections, easy entry through customs in London, and safe and timely arrival of all their luggage.  Thanks to you for your prayers and kindnesses to them over the months they were here.  They are anxious to return and continue their ministry to the Roma in Europe.

Memorial Day

“Let the peoples praise You, O God;

Let all the peoples praise You.”

~Psalm 67:3, NKJV~

Thanksgiving is a day when we pause to give thanks for the things we have.

Memorial Day is a day when we pause to give thanks to/for the people who fought for the things we have.

Marsha Bankston is heading to Ochsner in New Orleans today for to days of chemo (days 3 and 4).  Pray for her to be strong enough and her body to be ready for these treatments.  Pray for Larry as he faithfully helps her through this.

Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell is looking forward to her treatments.  She has been released from the hospital and is staying with family close by in Ponchatoula.  Mr. John Alan is sticking close by her side.

Doc and Dora Magee

Hi everybody,

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on Doc and Dora Magee.  I gave them a call today and found that they are now on the road to recovery, but their computer is sick.  It will be several days before they can communicate via e-mail, so she asked me to send out a brief update to everyone and she will fill in the blanks as soon as possible. So, here goes, with a disclaimer in case I get some of the facts not quite right:

  • ·         DERRY: On Thursday May 17 Derry had a heart procedure called the “Lariat”. This is some sort of procedure to help prevent future strokes, in light of the fact that he is unable to take blood thinners, and was done by the same surgeons who had done previous heart procedures for him at a hospital in Austin.  Nita flew to College Station and took Derry and also remained with him for the 3 days he was hospitalized and then came home with him, too.  The procedure went very well.  (Dora was unable to go … read on.)
  • ·         Shortly after getting home, however, Derry began having excruciating abdominal pain and was taken to the ER there in College Station.  Tests revealed pancreatitis and gallstones in the bile duct.  Laparoscopic surgery was done to remove the stones and he is recuperating well from this procedure.
  • ·         Derry continues to make progress from the effects of his stroke and continues physical and occupational therapy at home.  He no longer needs speech therapy, Dora said.
  • ·         DORA:   Soon after Derry was discharged from the rehab facility, Dora was flat on her back with an injured sacroiliac.  (Don’t ask me what that is! But you can look it up – I just did. OUCH!)  She had severe pain and was unable to do anything but lie flat.  Apparently, she had over-extended herself, maybe lifting too much, whatever.  She is healing from this ordeal and is now able to drive, so things are looking up.

The good news is that they have household help called “Comfort Help”, an agency that provides all kinds of help with personal hygiene, cleaning, laundry, and even cooking, I believe. So, things are better, and hopefully the good progress will continue. She regrets that she has been unable to communicate, but with her being “down”, and now the computer is down (wonder if it had a virus J?), things have been on hold! As Derry, said, “We have been through the wringer!”

Please continue to keep Dora and Derry in your prayers.  I am sure I am overlooking some, so please forward this to anyone you wish.

Saturday

“All of you together are Christ’s body,

and each one of you  is a separate and necessary part of it.”

~1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT~

I hope you read that verse and thought about it.  You are not only important, but necessary!

Marsha C. Bankston is home, but looking forward to going to Ochsner again Monday.  Please pray she is strong enough and the blood work doesn’t cause another delay in her chemo.  Continue to pray for her family as they help care for her.

Continue to pray for Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell as she gets stronger and ready for treatment.  Pray for her family as they support her during this time.

We had the almost two days with the Hatchels here.  We had a great time!  Wednesday will be here before we know it!  I thank God for the sweet times we have had together.  Pray for them as they complete the final tasks in packing and cleaning in preparation for their trip “home”.  Pray they will be rested enough for the long journey.

Devotional – http://www.devotions.net/devotions/05may/22.htm

Have a great day!  We have rain this morning.  It is coming out of the hose pipe and providing nourishment to the flowers and the plants in the garden.  I’m thankful for a good supply of water to help when plants are dry.  I’m also thankful for the one who is holding the hose in the dark this morning.

Sunday

“How tremendous is the power available to us who believe in God.

That power is the same divine power

which was demonstrated in Christ when he raised him from the dead.”

~Ephesians 1:19b-20 Phillips~

Always remember that God loves you and never gives up on you!

What a week!  Last week, Marsha Bankston was in church.  Now, she has been in Oschner since Monday and ICU since the middle of the week.  Keep praying for her and her family, Larry, Daniel,  Michael, Steven and the families of the boys.

Mrs. Laura Joiner was in church last week when she fell and broke her leg and hit her face on a pew.  She’s been hospitalized in New Orleans all week and has had surgery on her let.  Keep praying all goes well as she heals.

Mrs. Mary Alice Blackwell and Jimmy Schwartz did not have a diagnosis for their illnesses.  Now, we know she has a brain tumor and will have surgery midday tomorrow in Hammond and Jimmy has myelofibrosis with a choice of treatment plans.
