David and I have been on the receiving end of many kind expressions of love and concern, cards, calls, food, yard work, visits, etc.  We have been richly blessed.  I don’t thing anyone had to sell their possessions to do so, but we certainly have been blessed!

Today, I request prayer for David again.  The doctor and David will be considering a new treatment Monday.  Please pray they make the right decision.

 

 

 

I was told Brett Fraier is doing better.  Keep the Frazier family in your prayers.

 

 

 

There are others with needs that are not physical, maybe spiritual, loneliness, grief, etc.  Go to the top and read the Scripture from Hebrews 10:24 again.

July 24, 1952 – March 27, 2019

Delores Casanova, a resident of Roseland, LA, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. She was born July 24, 1952 in Independence, LA and was 66 years of age. She is survived by 2 sons Richard T. Bearden, Jr. and Carlton Wayne Walker; 4 grandchildren Jayden Wayne Broussard, Destiny Lynn Bearden, Bridget A. Case, and Richard Austin Bearden; 5 great grandchildren Meka McFall, Skyler McFall, Akashia McFall, Blakely Rain, and Damien Austin Bearden; 1brother Frankie Earl Casanova and wife Angela; Special friends Angela Cutrer, Diane Cutrer, Gail Slaven and many other family members and friends. Preceded in death by parents Farrel and Louise Casanova; grandaughter Denise Desinee McFarland. Thanks to all of you who prayed for Jimmy Alford and his family.  Some of you were aware of my “unspoken request” and some prayed because I had an unspoken request.  It was at Jimmy’s request I no longer posted his name.  He didn’t like to draw attention to himself.

The family was truly blessed by the outpouring of love for Jimmy and his family.  I ask that you pray for his wife, Janie, and hopefully she will be able to have the knee surgeries she has postponed for so long while she cared for Jimmy.  Pray for Leesha and Shaun and their families.

May Jimmy’s family and many friends be encouraged by his example.  May God be glorified, even now, by Jimmy’s example of caring, doing, serving, and giving of himself.

Baby Jules Tanksley, daughter of KeriBeth and Jamie Tanksley, will be having her second open heart surgery.  Pray for the staff at Children’s hospital, the family, and for Jules.

 

 

 

Rosa Emma Miller Turner

April 26, 1947 – March 25, 2019

She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls Proverbs 31:10 Rosa Emma Miller Turner of Hillsdale, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Monday March 25, 2019 at North Oaks Hospital. She was born in Baton Rouge on April 26,1947. She was the daughter of James T. Miller and Anne Mae Siebert Miller. Shortly after her birth her mother passed away and God blessed her with a wonderful woman who raised as her own daughter, Rosa S. Miller. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1965 and Southeastern Louisiana University in 1973 obtained a degree in Business. Rosa Emma was a retired Educator. She loved her lord and savior Jesus Christ and instilled in all of her children and grandchildren her favorite bible verse “This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it… Psalms 118:24” Survived by her three children, James Keith Newell and wife Karen, Kimberly Newell Landry, and Robert Klint Newell; brother, Ted Miller and partner Henry Mayes Jr.; grandchildren, Kari and Eric LeBlanc, Scott and Haleigh Villeneuve, Kaylie Villeneuve, Keifer Newell, Lake Newell, Nicole Newell, and River Newell; great-grandchildren Owen, Ethan, Charlie, Lucien, and Brayson. Preceded in death by her parents. We would like to thank Dr. Smitty Smith and North Oaks Medical Center for their care and comfort during her final days. It is one thing to know your brother-in-law as a kind, caring, helpful, and humble Christian man, but it is certainly another to witness hundreds of people stand in a winding line for so long to file through to say good-bye to him.  Pray for the family at they continue to celebrate Jimmy’s life today.

Our daughter-in-law had a very successful gall bladder surgery.  Her recovery seems to be going smoothly.  Thank-you for praying for Becki.

 

 

 

 

Brett Frazier continues to be in a room at Lakeview and is doing about the same.  Please continue to pray for his family.

 

 

 

David had another long day, 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. yesterday as we traveled to Baton Rouge.  After labs, seeing a NP, and getting Procrit, David got a unit of blood.

 

 

 

 

Some just wrote me through “Contact” on this site and requested prayers for the family of Micah Fitzhugh.

Obituary for James “Jimmy” Russell Alford

James ‘Jimmy’ Russell Alford
Jimmy Alford, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He retired from ExxonMobil, as the Head Advisor of the Inspection Division for many years, where he mentored many generations in his field. Jimmy was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church, who was very strong in his faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, served as 8th Ward Constable for many years, and also as a past president and board member for the Livingston Parish Fire District #10 in Holden. Jimmy served his community as the District Deputy Grand Master of the 19th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana, an active member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, a dedicated member of the Gideons International Organization, and the Knights Templar in Hammond. Jimmy was a very giving and selfless man, always willing to help out anyone in need. He would often cook his famous “Jambalaya A-La Alford” for many charities, fundraisers and benefits to help people in need. Jimmy loved going to the camp on the river with his family and catching catfish and setting out his trout lines. In his younger years he raced cars, where he first met the love of his life, Janie, who he later married and they had two wonderful children. Jimmy was the greatest man, best husband, loving father, and an awesome grandfather, who has left behind a beautiful legacy to remember him by and is already deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.Jimmy leaves behind his adoring wife of almost 50 years, Janie Courtney Alford; daughter, Leesha Robert and husband Troy; son, Shawn Alford and wife Catherine; sister, Bonnie Alford Newman and husband Harold; brothers, Donald Alford and wife Angela, and David Alford and wife Anna Lee; grandchildren, Kaleb Gleber, Tanner Gleber, Grace Alford, Caroline Alford, and Mary Cate Alford.

Preceding him in death are his parents, William C. and Elizabeth R. Alford; and grandparents, James W. Alford, Mamie Bennett, Earl E. Russell, and Azlea Vernon.

Active Pallbearers will be Donald Alford, Vernon Russell, Ricky Russell, Tanner Gleber, Paul K. Duke, Wade Courtney, DeWayne Harmon, Troy Robert, and Matt Newman. Honorary Pallbearers are David Alford, Harold Newman, as well as his Masonic Brothers.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the Masonic service at 11:00 a.m. The Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. officiated by Bro. Richard Wallace and Brother Alton Foster. Interment to follow in Arcola-Roseland Cemetery.

Obituary for Charles Cavell Miller

Charles Cavell Miller, a resident of Mandeville, Louisiana, went home to his Lord and Savior at 1:35 pm on March 22, 2019. Mr Miller was a native of Mt. Hermon, Louisiana and had also resided in Livingston and Port Sulphur, Louisiana. He was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Hermon High School and earned BS, Masters and Specialist Degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. He was a Christian, ordained Deacon and was devoted to his family.

Mr. Miller had a keen intelligence and phenomenal memory that served him well in his many jobs and hobbies. Dairy farming, gardening, carpentry, logging, teaching, high school and vo-tech guidance counselor were just some of the many jobs he held over the years. His hobbies included coin collecting and extensive family genealogy research. After his retirement, he began cataloguing every cemetery in Washington, St Helena, Livingston and Tangipahoa Parish. His genealogy and cemetery works are available in many local public libraries. He loved to travel and he and his wife visited every state except Hawaii during their 63 years together. Mr. Miller’s great love was all things military. He joined the U.S. Army National Guard in October 1949. He retired as a Major in 1976 and spent many joyous hours recounting his adventures to anyone who would listen.

Children: One son: Darryl (Laurie) Miller; four daughters: Sue Ellen St Ann, Terry Woodson (Norman) Frosch, Barbara Anne Freiler Miller (Jack), and Sandra Kaye Painter.

Grandchildren: Valerie Orazio, Jaime LaCrosse, Charles St Ann, Christopher St Ann, Tiffany Miller, Sydney Freiler, Jeremy Painter, Trent Painter, Ashley Hutto, Ryan Miller and Phillip Miller.

Great Grandchildren: Austin Coleman; Gabrielle, Damian , Trendon, and Grayson St. Ann; Kaylee and Caleb Orazio; Rowan Miller and Zaden Portis; Emma, Amelia and Joseph Wayne Hutto; Prestyn and Dylan Painter.

Brothers/Sisters-In-Law: Charles (Rachel) Lanford; Lena (Don) Leonard; Carolyn (Albert) Lebo; Peggy (Jessie) Strickland.

He had many nieces/nephews and proudly displayed pictures of his large, extended family throughout his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Lanford Miller; father and mother, Elton Jerry and Ontee Smith Miller; and brother Bobby L. Miller

Honorary Pallbearers: Charles St Ann, Christopher St Ann, Jeremy Painter, Trent Painter, Ryan Miller, Phillip Miller, and Austin Coleman.

Services:
Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, memorial service at 11:00 am on April 1, 2019 followed by a graveside service at Mt. Pisgah. Afterward, the fellowship hall will be open for lunch and visitation.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, calls and visits. A very special thanks to Heart of Hospice for going above and beyond with their care and support. Dad checked the calendar every morning to see which staff member would be coming out that day and truly looked forward to your visits. A special shout out to Rivers, Dionne and Aaron who always had time for his stories.

David’s brother, Jimmy, passed from this earth to heaven this morning.  Please continue to pray for his family and many friends.  Jimmy grew up east of Arcola and lived at Holden.   Jimmy has been my unspoken request.

The Pine Ridge Breakfast this morning will be to benefit Allen and Jeanine Stewart who recently lost their home in a fire.  You are invited to join them at 8:00.

Linda Bridges‘ recent surgery has left her with new issues to endure and overcome.  Pray for her as she faces these problems.  She looks forward to being 100% again.

My unspoken request has become a much bigger and more complicated issue.  Pray for this person and the entire family.

Today, I want to share a brief update on the last two days of appointments with David.

Monday, we met with a different oncologist because David’s oncologist was in a different clinic that day.  We were told there is a possible change in treatment since the Procrit is not working as hoped.  David’s oncologist will make the decision, possibly next week.  We have talked to some health professionals and read up on it to learn about the possible treatment.  We are waiting to see what the doctor and God have planned.

Tuesday, we saw our regular eye doctor as a follow up to the emergency visit to the eye clinic.  David lost some of his vision in one eye Friday a week ago.  We know now he is regaining sight in that eye, but time will tell how much it improves.  We heard the term “eye stroke” for the first time.  That brought some new questions.  We are optimistic about the next appointment in four weeks.  We are not at the point of seeing the retina specialist again at this point.

God has provided wonderful and intelligent professionals for David.  We have been blessed.  Despite all the problems, we are enjoying seeing God guide us through them.  God is using many family members, church friends, long-time friends, and neighbors to encourage us regardless of the issues.  We are so thankful He is in charge and creates the plan.  We are making the most of the journey.  Thank-you to all who have helped us travel on this journey in so many ways.

A resident of Kentwood, LA , passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at home in Kentwood, LA. He was born February 25,1944 in Tylertown, MS and was 75 years of age. He was owner and operator of Kentwood Auto Salvage for over 36 years. He is survived by wife, Kathleen L. Coon; 2 daughters, Pamela Golmon and April Laird; 1 son, Chad Coon; 5 step children, Christy Brown, Fry Brown, Christopher Brown, Katie Brown, and Clint Brown; 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Tinsey DeBlanc, Norma Jean Gibbs, and Penny Lynn Cook; numerous nieces and nephews.
