The chorus was used as an anthem in the hymnal I was using.  I think we can benefit from using the chorus as a prayer.

Yesterday, we missed the graduation of one of our grandsons, but got to watch it on the computer screen.  We even got to hear hiss voice the the first time in weeks.  I’m thankful to technology in so many ways at this time.  Please pray for all the young airmen as they continue their training in various places.

 

 

 

Joseph Anthony Farace, Jr.

Died: April 1, 2020

“The lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want” – Psalm 23
Joseph was born in Hammond, Louisiana April 10, 1959. He passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at his residence in Tickfaw, Louisiana. He loved spending time with his grandchildren more than anything, making sure everyone had a full stomach when leaving and drinking coffee with friends. Joseph is survived by children: Brennon Farace (Brianne) of Poplarville, MS; Brooke Farace of Baton Rouge, LA; and Brock Farace of Amite, LA; a brother, Daniel Farace of Tickfaw, LA; a sister, Marilyn Farace Lejuene (Timothy) of Tickfaw, LA; and niece Abby Lejuene; his four grandchildren, Baelyn Farace, Rhett Diamond, Blaine Honore and newest bundle of joy West Farace. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Anthony Farace Sr., and mother Mary Grace Morales Farace, sister, Melissa Farace and nephew Samuel Lejuene. Due to COVID-19 his service and memorial mass will be held at a later date.

 

 

Stay at home.  Use a mask when you have to go anywhere.  Wash your hands frequently.  Let’s help this time get over sooner, rather than later.

Hospitals have new rules because of Covid-19.  They include not having any visitors or family members there with patients.  Thinking about my family members who have been hospitalized, I cannot imagine this.  It’s a case of heart vs. common sense.  Pray for people to have understanding and common sense about this change in policy.  This was the case this week with David’s nephew who had neck surgery in Baton Rouge.  When new rules “hit home”, we sometimes have a harder time appreciating them.

 

 

 

Pray for Dr. Ben Trappey, who grew up in Kentwood. as he is beginning three weeks of working in a COVID – 19 center.  He asks for your prayers.

Keith Newell is recovering from removal of a kidney.  Yesterday, he learned the one that was removed was cancerous.  Thank God for Keith’s surgery and good progress in recovering from the surgery, as well as the decision to remove the whole kidney.

 

 

 

Pray for Danielle Hammons Thornton’s infant niece, Charlotte, who will be having heart surgery in New Orleans today.

 

 

 

Pray for our healthcare workers, the biggest heroes of this Convid-19 pandemic.

 

 

 

Pray for all the new homeschool teachers.  Let’s pray they can give the time and the patience their children/students need.

World Down Syndrome Day 2020 & Josiah Huckaby

Not how we planned to spend it. We didn’t get to wear our cute shirts or crazy socks but we did have fun. Although we sure are missing daddy! I’m just glad technology allows us the opportunity to see each other during hospital stays.

Josiah has definitely been making improvements on his oxygen. They did quite a bit of weaning today. Hopefully he will continue to do well on the new oxygen settings tonight.

Joey “Buck” Cutrer

November 03, 1957 – March 20, 2020

A resident of Livingston, LA, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020 at his home. He was born November 3, 1957 in Clinton, LA and was 62 years of age. He was a loving father and grandfather that would do anything for anyone. He was a kind hearted soul that is now at peace. He is survived by 2 sons, Joey Cutrer and Drew Alan Cutrer and wife, Lauren; granddaughter, Ava Cutrer; brother, Ric Cutrer and wife, Donna; sister, MaryJo Cutrer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Saint Elmo Saxon, Jr.

February 22, 1943 – March 20, 2020

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was born February 22, 1943 in Foxworth, MS and was 77 years of age. He was a husband, father, brother and friend who was better known as Daddy, Honey, Elmo or simply “Saint.” He was a man of many talents, loved the outdoors and was an American patriot having served in the U. S. Army. His world was his family showing his love every day with his abounding love. He traveled throughout the world, many times alone, sometimes with his love and family,  bringing back many stories and souvenirs from the trips. Being a man that loved to work, he taught his work ethic to anyone who would loan him a hand, follow him around, learning with every step. If you were lucky enough to attend a Saxon gathering where family and friends were, you caught him in his glory. He is survived by his wife, Kay Crawford Saxon; 3 daughters, Milissa Pirnar, Tissie Gorman, and  Angela Saxon; son, Chris Saxon and his wife, Brigitte Saxon; grandchildren, Brugge Gorman, Dillon Gorman, Skylar Pirnar, Noah Steptore, Domonique Pierce, Anna Barber, Stone Saxon, and River Saxon; great-grandchildren, Abygayle, Anslee and Aniston Rae Barber; 2 sisters, Linda Russell and Mary Johnson; brother, John Wayne Saxon. Preceded in death by parents, Saint Elmo Saxon, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Forbes Saxon; son, Brian O’Neal Saxon; daughter, Tina Marie Saxon; and brother, Linnie Saxon. Most of us will be at home today and watching our church service via live-streaming video.  Many will not have the opportunity to attend a Sunday School class.  There are several option:

  • Each person prepares their lesson and discusses it.
  • One person teaches the family each week.
  • Watch a video and discuss it as a family group.

Bible project will be giving us a video to watch as a family each week.  Then, discussion can follow.  The lesson for today is “Generosity”.

Churches present the worship service online.

  • Most churches will present the worship service online, many of them doing so for the first time today.
  • If your church is not live-streaming this morning or if you choose to watch multiple services as we did last week. you will have plenty of opportunities.  On Facebook, join Kentwood First Baptist Church at 10:30 A.M., 6 P.M. today, and 6 P.M. Wednesday.  I think following the normal schedule will keep us from feeling like we are missing out as much.

 

 

 

Now that hospitals are not allowing any visitors like the special living facilities, we need to pray extra hard for both the patients/residents and the family members.  What a change this is!

Buddy Morris‘ procedure went well yesterday.  He (and Eleanor) will probably stay today and tomorrow before he can come home.

 

 

 

Keith Newell’s surgery did not go as well as hoped for.  Complications are never in our plans, but sometimes have to be worked through.  Pray for Keith and his family as they deal with the current situation.

 

 

 

A good thought – Samaritan’s Purse has already delivered a 68 bed hospital to Italy to help with the fight against the Corona virus.  I have mainly told you about their “shoebox” program, but they do so much more.  When you consider which groups to support, Samaritan’s Purse is always one of the very good ones.

Thankfully, Paul Morgan will be going home today, more than two weeks following his heart attack.  Pray for Sandy and Zach as they assist him at home for a while.

 

 

 

Kristy Alford passed away.  She fought a long, hard battle!  I’ll post arrangements when they are available.  Please pray for her family and many friends.  She will be greatly missed by many people.

Last week, as I went about my daily life, I had the opportunity to tell three people about Operation Christmas Child and how it impacts so many children and families for Jesus.  At Ochsner, I always speak to one lady and ask about her weekend.  Then, she asked about mine.  I told her I spent a portion of my weekend on Operation Christmas Child.  She didn’t know about OCC.  I explained it was a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse.  She had not heard about that either.  I began to explain that when a man said he knew.  He and his wife are both fighting serious illnesses.  After the big flood in Livingston Parish, Samaritan’s Purse rebuilt his home.  God had the right person walk up and share his personal experience.  She was impressed!  I can hardly wait to see her Monday.  I will be taking her some literature from Samaritan’s purse.  That was the first opportunity.  I had two other wonderful opportunities to share this week.  God blessed me with these opportunities.  I look forward to the opportunities he has for me this week.

Yesterday, my sister, Julie, delivered 250 beautiful t-shirts and a number of beautiful owls she lovingly made to add to our OCC collection.  I would love to show them to you.  Thank-you, Julie, for sharing your wonderful talents with the children who will receive your gifts.

David got a good report and procrit yesterday.  His blood level was 9.9.  I thank God for that and for watching out for us as we traveled in the rain yesterday.

As I was checking David in for appointments, Operation Christmas Child came up as something I was working on since I last saw the lady in the office.  She didn’t have a clue, so I began talking about Samaritan’s Purse, Rev. Franklin Graham, and Rev. Billy Graham.  That’s when the man behind me stepped up and said Samaritan’s Purse rebuilt his home after flooding.  That caught everyone’s attention.

The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) gives a clear picture of God’s desire for us to help those in desperate need wherever we find them. The bad weather that can through earlier this week left a lot of damage in some areas.  I thankful for all the people who survived the devastation.  The clean-up process has already begun.  Thank-you to the Baptist Disaster Relief that will provide physical clean up and other help, especially spiritual help for people in a time of great need.  Please pray for them as they reach out to help others.  Your financial help is also appreciated.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering – Missionary Kids are provided with $75/year to help with fees for international school when that is the best option for the MK’s.  Thanks for helping to provide that for four of my grandchildren at one time or another.  The opportunity to attend there has greatly enriched the lives of my grandchildren.  I’m thankful.

 

 

 

Luke 18

Jesus talks about how to pray

1 Then Jesus told his disciples a story. He wanted to teach them that they must go on praying always. They must not get tired. 2 He said to them, ‘In a certain city, there was a judge. He was not afraid of God. He did not respect people.

3 A woman lived in that same city. Her husband had died. She came to the judge many times with a problem. “Somebody is doing bad things against me. Please keep me safe from that person,” she was saying. 4 For a long time, the judge would not do anything to help her. Later, he thought, “I am not afraid of God. Nor do I respect people. 5 But this woman causes me trouble. If I do not do anything for her, she will continue to come to me again and again. She will make me ill. So, I will help her to be safe. I will say that she is right.” ’

6 Jesus went on to say, ‘This judge was not a good man. But you should think about what he said. He helped the woman because she caused him trouble. 7 But as for God, he always helps those that he has chosen to be his children. When they continue to ask him for help, in the day and in the night, he will answer them. He will not wait. 8 I tell you this. He will show that they are right. He will help them quickly. I, the Son of Man, will return to earth. But will I find many people that still believe in me then, or not?’

Jesus tells a story about two men who were praying

9 Jesus told a story to teach other people. These people thought that they were very good in front of God. They thought that they were much better than other people.

10 Jesus said, ‘One day, two men went into God’s Great House to pray. One man was a Pharisee. The other man took taxes on behalf of the government. 11 The Pharisee stood there by himself. He prayed like this: “Thank you, God, that I am different from all these other people. They are bad people. They rob other people. They have sex with women that are not their wife. Thank you, God, that I am not like this man who takes taxes on behalf of the government. 12 I stop eating on two days of each week. I give to you one tenth of all the things and money that I receive.”

13 But the other man stood far away. He would not even look up towards heaven. He was hitting his body with his hands to show how sorry he was. He prayed like this: “Please, God, be kind to me. I have done many bad things.” ’

14 Jesus went on to say, ‘Let me tell you about these men when they left there. The man that took taxes on behalf of the government was now right with God. But the Pharisee had not made anything right with God. Some people lift themselves up to be important. They say that they are better than other people. But God will bring all of them down low. Little children come to Jesus

15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus. They wanted him to put his hands on each child’s head. But Jesus’ disciples did not like this. They told the people that they should not do it.

16 Then Jesus told the children to come to him. He said to his disciples, ‘Let the children come to me. Do not try to stop them. People must become like these children so that God can rule their lives. That is what the kingdom of God is like. 17 What I say is true. A person must become like a little child for God to rule in his life. If he does not become like a child, he will not come into the kingdom of God.’

Jesus meets a rich ruler

18 A Jewish ruler came to Jesus and asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do so that I can live with God for ever?’

19 Jesus asked him, ‘Why do you say that I am good? Only God is good. Nobody else. 20 You know God’s rules: “Do not have sex with anyone who is not your wife. Do not kill anyone. Do not rob anyone. Do not say things that are not true about people. Love your father and your mother, and obey them.” ’

21 The man replied, ‘I have obeyed all these laws since I was a young man.’

22 Jesus heard what he said and he replied, ‘There is still just one thing that you must do. You must sell everything that you have. Then give the money to poor people. If you do that, you will have many valuable things in heaven. Then come back and be my disciple.’

23 When the ruler heard this, he became very sad. This was because he was a very rich man.

24 Jesus saw that the ruler had become sad. He said, ‘It is very difficult for rich people to let God rule in their lives. 25 The hole in a needle is very small. A big animal cannot go through it! But it is even more difficult than that for a rich person to let God rule in their life.’

26 The people who were listening to Jesus said, ‘So perhaps God will not save anyone!’ 27 Jesus replied, ‘God can do things that are impossible for people to do.’

28 Peter then said to Jesus, ‘Look! We have left everything that we had. Now we are your disciples.’

29 Jesus said to them, ‘What I say is true. Some people have left their home. Or they may have left their wife or their brothers. Or they may have left their parents or their children. They have done this to work for the kingdom of God. 30 Now, in this world, God will give these people many more things than they have left behind. And in the future world they will live for ever with God.’

31 Jesus took the 12 disciples away from the other people. ‘Listen!’ he said to them. ‘We are going to Jerusalem. There, many bad things will happen to me. All the things that God’s prophets wrote down long ago about the Son of Man will now happen to me. 32 The Jewish leaders will deliver me to people that are not Jews. They will laugh at me. They will say bad things against me. They will spit at me. 33 They will hit me with whips and then they will kill me. But after three days, I will become alive again.’

34 The 12 disciples did not understand any of these things. What Jesus said did not mean anything to them. So they did not know what Jesus was talking about.

Jesus makes a blind man well

35 When Jesus was getting near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the side of the road. He was asking people to give him money. 36 Then he heard a large crowd of people as they went along the road. So, he asked the people near him what was happening. 37 They told him, ‘Jesus from Nazareth is walking past.’

38 The man began to shout out. ‘Jesus! Son of David! Please be kind to me and help me.’ 39 The people who were walking at the front of the crowd were angry with him. They told him that he should be quiet. But he started to shout even louder, ‘Son of David! Please help me!’

40 Then Jesus stopped. He said to the people, ‘Bring that man to me.’ When the man came near, Jesus asked him, 41 ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ ‘Sir,’ the blind man replied, ‘I want to see again.’

42 Jesus said to him, ‘See again! You are well now because you believed in me.’ 43 Immediately, the man could see again. He started to follow Jesus along the road. He was praising God.

Many people saw what had happened. They also praised God.

Dollie Frazier now reports that her retina specialist says her right eye is again getting worse.  Pray for Dollie and her ability to see.

 

 

 

The storm Friday night was worse than the weather people expected, so most areas that were hit were not prepared.  Many people have been without electricity for a long time.  Linemen from other areas have been brought in to help in restoring the power.  Pray for these men who do a dangerous job and do it well.  Pray for those who are still without power to be understanding of how hard others are working to help them.

 

 

 

Southern Baptist and Samaritan’s Purse also send in people to help in times of need.  Pray for them as they work wherever there is a need.

Pray for little Jules Tankesley who had to be airlifted to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.  She is doing much better now.  Pray for Jules and her parents, KerriBeth and Jamie.

 

 

 

Thanks to those who helped with the shoeboxes this week.  The shoebox schedule for this week is Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00 P.M.and Saturday at 8 A.M.  We are progressing in getting enough shoeboxes ready for all the children we will be packing for this year.  Help us bring a smile to their faces.  We meet in the fellowship hall to paint.  Thanks to the ladies who helped this week.

We are collecting money to help with the postage.  It costs $9.00 per shoebox to get each one to their destination.  You can mark your check “OCC Postage”.  Thanks for your help.

 

 

 

 

Georgia Barnette Offering for Louisiana Missions:  We are collecting funds to help people in Louisiana have an opportunity to learn about Jesus.  I know we want those around us to have opportunities to have Jesus in their hearts and lives.

If you have items to send because of the flooding in Texas they must be turned in first thing in the morning so the can get to Bro. Stan in time for the next trip.  Remember, they will only be taking the four items they requested – diapers, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, and Gatorade and other sports drinks.  We have disaster relief workers on the ground and working in Texas.

 

 

 

Monday, the “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party will meet at The Cafe at 11:00.  All ladies are invited to join in with them.

 

 

 

Sunday School begins at 9:15 and worship begins at 10:30 at FBC, Kentwood.  We invite you to join us if you are not attending another church.  We have classes for every age group.  We also provide a nursery, have children’s church, and other things that may interest you.
