Friday Evening

My soul is weary with sorrow;

strengthen me according to your word.

~Psalm 119:28~

This is the verse that came to me on my computer today.  Fitting?

This the first time all day that my computer satellite is functioning.  The skies never cleared up enough until now and this will not last.  I’ll make this brief.

Pray for the flood victims in our area.  They are many.  Some have lost everything.  Some are just recovering from the flooding in March.  Homes in non-flood zone are flooding.  Area churches are experiencing flooding, including Mt. Nebo, which is finishing up their work following the March flood.  The stories are numerous.  The families, businesses, schools, neighborhoods, etc. have much work ahead.  Maybe you could offer help to a shelter now or a recovery project in the coming day.

Today, I want to request prayers again for Rev. and Mrs. Hicks.  He has been taken back to the hospital with a possible infection.  I know they will appreciate your prayers.

Scripture Writing –  Romans 7:16-20 – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+7%3A16-20&version=NIV

I’ll stop with this much tonight.  Hopefully, I’ll be be back early in the morning.

Thursday

For no one is cast off by the Lord forever.

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,

so great is his unfailing love.

~Lamentations 3:31-32~

Kristi Alford‘s preliminary medical reports look good.  Keep praying.  More reports early next week!

Harrell Sharkey is  better.  He has been through a lot.  Thanks to those who have stuck with him with their prayers.

This Saturday is McComb’s Gospel Opry.  Call 601-600-6704 for more information.  You’ll be amazed at how many area people are there enjoying the music and worshiping God.

At missions class last night we learned about an MK. missionary kid, from Ohio.  His birthday is tomorrow, so we sent him a card.  Praying for all missionaries and MKs on their birthdays is beneficial to us and to them.

Operation Christmas Child is in the collection and sorting stage now.  Tomorrow, after Bible study, the ladies will participate by helping to get the toiletries packed in ziplock bags and placement in the shoeboxes in October.

Today is a good day to make some purchases for Operation Christmas Child.  Ask someone what your church needs at this point.  Items we ship will make a difference in young lives.  Last night it was eye-opening to be able to stand children in front of a world map and show them the countries that prepare the boxes and then to show them all the other countries on the receiving end of OCC.

Wednesday

A person’s wisdom yields patience;

it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

~Proverbs 19:11~

Tricia Doss had foot surgery.  Pray for a good healing period and a healthier foot.

Mrs. Bessie Hayden did not have surgery as planned today.  The doctor told her it will be best to have laser surgery in one eye and nothing in the other one.  Keep praying for her improved vision.

Harrell Sharkey still is on oxygen and have lots of PT ahead.  Keep him in your prayers.

Mrs. Mimi Sneed  called yesterday to request prayer for her son, Bobby.  His health has not been good for a while.

By noon today, David and I will have had five appointments so far this week.  His surgery yesterday went well, but the eye has a patch on it until the doctor removes the patch this morning.  Hopefully, David’s vision in that eye will go from all fuzzy to clear.  Pray for some vision in his left eye.

It’s my favorite night of the week – Children’s Missions!  Boys and girls from age 3-grade 5 are welcome to meet with us from 6-7 P.M.  Among other things, we will be signing a birthday card for a MK.  For you adults who don’t know, MK means missionary kid.  We’lll also pray for him as he helps his parents in their ministry.

Thanks to people who have already said they want to help collect shoe boxes from other churches.  You will be an important link is getting area shoeboxes to children all around the world.

Do you remember the song “Love and marriage, the go together like a horse and carriage”?  With the prayer link, we might say “read and pray”.  They go together in the same way.

Tuesday

If you declare with your mouth,

Jesus is Lord,”

and believe in your heart

that God raised him from the dead,

will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified,

and it is with your mouth

that you profess your faith and are saved.

~Romans 10:9-10~

Mrs. Bessie Hayden is having surgery on an eye to help save her vision.  Please pray for her surgery to be effective.

Jimmy Williams problem has been addressed with a change of medication.  He did NOT have a heart attack.

Deborah Bales requests prayer for the family of Jeremy and Kristi Alford.  Kristi has surgery that went well, but will be waiting for lab results for the next week or two.  Debi said the family would be happy to  have her name added to other prayer lists.

I want to share the next four WMU events with you.

  1. September 5 – Georgia Barnett Emphasis – New Zion Baptist Church
  2. October 17 – Matt Middlecamp and SLU BCM students will update us on their remodeling and their current mission projects.
  3. Nov. 7 – World Day of Prayer at Kedron
  4. December 4 (Sunday) – Lottie Moon Tea at FBC, Kentwood where we include ladies from 3-103 years of age.

You do not have to belong to a WMU to attend, just want to enjoy the morning with other ladies and learn about missions in a new way.  If you have any questions, please contact me.

Devotional – “Who Will Tell Them?” – http://odb.org/2016/08/09/who-will-tell-them/

Will you be the one to tell someone through a friendship, a shoebox, a missionary you help send, etc?

Plan to send your children, grandchildren to missions classes Wednesday night 6-7 P.M.  We’ll take good care of them and help them learn how to be the “someone” who tells others about Jesus.

Monday

As far as the east is from the west,

so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

~Psalm 103:12~

Today, we need to continue to pray for Jimmy Williams.  Linda had to take him back to the hospital yesterday.  After some tests, they admitted him.  Pray they can identify and correct the problem.

Last night, we participated in the first week of a six week study on prayer.  There were sixty-two people there to learn.  It was presented by Dr. Fortenberry.  I think we all realized we can improve our prayer time and hopefully we will.

Friday

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Andy Taylor‘s eye procedure has enabled him to see better.  Join them in thanking God.

Bro. Joey and I met a lady who represents Samaritan’s Purse in our area.  FBC, Kentwood has been asked to become a collection site for “shoeboxes” in November.  Lots of volunteers will be needed to man this operation for eight days.  We are presently looking at three hour time slots plus others to provide cookies, coffee, etc.  If you would be interested in committing to service this way in November, please let Bro. Joey or me know as soon as possible.

“Roselyn and a Picture Book” – (Operation Christmas Child) – https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/shoebox-stories-roselyn-and-a-picture-book/

Yesterday, I had a visit from a neighbor/friend.  She brought some items for my church to include in the “shoeboxes” we are sending.  She had done this for a few years.  She blesses my heart and the heart of some little children somewhere each year.  As she left, she asked me to call her to tell her what else we could use. She is a ray of sunshine and brings “Joy” to many hearts!

If you would like to help too, ask me what we need a few more  of.  I carry the list in my purse.  You could be an instrument of God’s love to some children this year.

Thursday

will you not be accepted?

But if you do not do what is right,

sin is crouching at your door;

it desires to have you,

but you must rule over it.”

Isn’t that strange that I immediately found  verse appropriate for a nightmare that got me us at 3:30?  I don’t like nightmares!
Harrell Sharkey is in room 621 at Ochsner, New Orleans.  Keep praying.  He has a lot of PT to do to get him stronger.
Mr. Burnell Simpson has been home since Sunday afternoon.  Pray he can continue to get this diet correct for the fluid balance in his body.
Both Linda and Jimmy Williams are improving.  Don’t you know they will be happy when they are together and both home again?
Pray for the teachers and students as schools begin.  May they make good adjustments to the new year and all plan to work hard to do their very best.

Last night, the Children in Action put their lessons into action and actually helped prepare pencils, glue sticks, and soap for packing into our “shoeboxes”.  I’m happy to report that the children’s mission classes collected $36.00 the first month.  A parent and child will take that money and purchase highlighters to add to our items for Operation Christmas Child.  I’m also thankful for the Back-to-School prices on school supplies as well as some ladies who know how to get the most from each dollar they spend.  God is blessing our efforts!  Children somewhere will be blessed when they open our boxes in the coming months!
