The service will be held at Line Creek Baptist Church, Kentwood, Louisiana, on Saturday, March 24. Visitation will be 9-11:00 a.m. at the church, followed by the Celebration of Life service.  (Burial will be private.)

Update on Mr. John Alan Blackwell –

Gail M. Smith passed away this morning in Tennessee.  She will be brought back to Kentwood for services at Line Creek.  I’ll post when the day and time for that is available.

Birdie Mae Little Spitale

March 05, 1931 – March 08, 2018

On March 8th 2018 Birdie Mae Little Spitale said her final goodbye to her daughters to join her Lord and mother in heaven. On this day, March 8th, she also joined her husband on his birthday. She passed away after a long struggle with dementia at Tangi Pines Nursing Center. She was a native of Arcola and a resident of Amite. She was born to Hulon and Irma Smith Little on March 5, 1931 as Birdie Mae Little. Over the years, she worked very hard on the family farm. Also, she worked at Currier’s Cleaners, B. Stern’s, Tangi Pines Nursing Center, Amite Elementary, and Amite High School. Upon retiring, she enjoyed reading, LSU Football (especially Mike the Tiger), and going out to eat. In the last few months of her life, she enjoyed dining at Murphy’s in Amite where everyone treated her with much kindness. She leaves behind her 2 daughters, Debra and Kathy Spitale who will miss her dearly. She raised them to be strong independent women with strength to endure life without her but she will always and forever be with them. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Little, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee A. Spitale; sisters, Muriel Heth, Daphne “Pat” Hayden, and Wilma Lois Brown; brothers, Cecil Little, Robert Little, and Louis J. Little; parents, Hulon and Irma Smith Little. Kathy and Debra would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Tangi Pines Nursing Center for the care and respect given to their mother. Also, a special thank you to Debra’s family at Thrift Town Pharmacy.  A thank you also to Peggy Wall who also sent special cards that our mom loved to read. Dan Turner fell yesterday and broke his hip.   He’s hospitalized at UMMC.

A classmate, Pam,  requested prayers for a her sister, Karen, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and for a former classmate, Sheryl Andrus Carnegie, who is searching for the proper surgeon.

Glen R. Kimble, Sr.

December 31, 1941 – March 08, 2018

Glen R. Kimble, Sr., a resident of Independence, passed away peacefully at his home  on Thursday, March 8, 2018 surrounded by his love ones.  He was born December 31, 1941 in Roseland and was 76 years of age. He was a 1st class welder by trade and a #1 dad and granddad. He loved the country life, farming and planting his garden and watching it grow. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed cooking with his family. He loved his grandchildren and great grandbabies. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Laverne Newcomb Kimble; children, Robbie Kimble and wife, Sandra, Michael R. Kimble, and wife, Amy, and Donna Lynn Kimble, and John E. If you have a desire to help with the early efforts to collect and make items for the boys and girls who are going to receive “shoeboxes” this year, please talk with me.  I can give you some ideas on what to do.  I am working daily and enjoying every minute.

 

 

Ministry at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail

Yesterday, a deliver of over a hundred Bibles and several boxes of calendars was made yesterday.  The people who received the items were appreciative.  Thank you for wanting to help minister to the inmates in various ways.  The items for the next collection are already being collected.  If you have or plan to purchase Bibles, remember we need paperback Bible that have medium to large print.  Calendars for 2018 will still be accepted.  You may be able to find them at greatly reduced prices now.

Rhonda Hendry had the latest thyroid surgery this morning.  Let’s pray as she recovers from surgery and waits for a clean bill of health.

 

 

Glen Magee is having open heart surgery at 8:00 in the morning at St. Tammany hospital.  As we pray for him, let’s pray for his family.

 

 

Tammie Y. Roberts request we pray for June Baker and her family.

Please pray for a co-worker of Dwayne’s and their family . Jarrod and Meg Baker’s little girl , June , has been diagnosed with leukemia . They are seeking treatment at St Jude’s . June is almost 4 years old . I need all my prayer warriors to put little June Baker on your prayer list .

     June had surgery today.  All procedures and chemo went well.

 

 

Jean Lewis Myers

Jean Lewis Myers, a resident of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at her home. She was born June 3, 1934 in Barnstable, England and was 83 years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Rosanna Myers Stewart and husband, Larry; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Stewart and wife, Jennifer, Melissa Stewart, Jeremy Stewart, and Laura Ann Webb and husband, Ronnie; and her 3 great grandchildren, Ainsley Stewart, Ian Stewart and Marlyn Kathyrn Webb. Preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Myers; son, Daniel Boone Myers; and her parents, William and Beatrice Lewis. A Memorial Service will be held at a late date. Today, I have three obituaries to share.

Justin Blaine Milton, Jr.

December 22, 1998 – February 24, 2018

On the sunny Saturday morning of February 24, 2018, Justin Blaine Milton Jr., of Hillsdale, LA left this earth for his eternal home in heaven. Blaine, a charming, strong, and handsome young man, sported a smile that radiated joy as his personality initiated laughter. Born December 22, 1998, he is the adored son of Jessica and Greg Dupepe of Hillsdale and Justin and Erin Milton of Greensburg. Blaine was the best brother to Brady, Court, Emma Kate, Luke, Roxie, and Chloe. He’s the grandson of Janet and Jimmy Meyer of Hammond, Danny and Robin Milton of Kentwood, Tommy and Judy Dupepe of Greensburg, and Otis and Jan Alford of Kentwood. Blaine’s biggest fans were his aunts, Jennie (Corey) Perkins, Bonnie (Brooks) Jordan, and Dana (Hunter) Bond and cousins, Kade and Kaul Perkins, Bennett and Blinn Jordan, Kirstie Bridges, and Kolby and Hunter Bond. Blaine leaves behind extended family and a multitude of friends who loved him dearly including a special aunt and uncle, Buster and Bonnie Thompson, first love Kaleigh Crawford and his best friend Davin Booty with whom he shared his Wilson family. Blaine was a 2017 graduate of ASC where he was a talented athlete, a member of Beta, and unanimously voted Most Handsome.  Blaine took great pride in being the owner and caretaker of family land and growing his livestock herd as a self-proclaimed farmer.  

Blaine was greeted in heaven by his grandparents Herman and Noma Newell.  “Hermie” made his way to heaven on February 22, 2001 and “Nokie” joined him on February 24, 2015. As Psalms 31:15 says, “my times are in your hands,” there is no coincidence in dates but rather they are a part of God’s master plan.   

Dearest friends and brothers Brady Milton, Court Milton, Luke Milton, Brody Toler, Davin Booty, Stonewall Carrier, Jacob Cassel, Brennon Farace, Bodie Bridges, Bubba Creel, and Barrett Bridges will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at Hillsdale Baptist Church Tuesday, February 27th 6:00-9:00 pm and Wednesday, February 28th 9:00-11:00 am with service beginning at 11:00 am.

Mary D. Genco

December 08, 1952 – February 24, 2018
Mary D. Genco officially received her angel wings at her death on February 24, 2018 but she earned them in her many years of delivery care and comfort to her patients as a nurse. Mary was born on December 8, 1952 in New Orleans to Frank and Claire duTreil. She was an LPN for many years and was Dr. Charles “Bo” Alford’s labor and delivery nurse for many years. She proudly became a Registered Nurse in 1995 and was the first teacher of the Tangipahoa Parish School System’s first CNA program at Amite High School in 1996. Se became a school nurse in 1998 and during Hurricane Katrina volunteered at Tangi Pines Nursing Center in Amite. She eventually became one of the Weekend Supervisors there also. Mary was a dedicated nurse who offered a great deal of care and comfort to her patients. No person was too poor, too old, too young, or too sick to receive her unrelenting compassion and care. Mary is survived by her husband, Charles V. Genco; her three children, Christy Lyn Morgan (Joel), Paul C. Genco, II (Megan), and Charly Lyn Genco (Nick); her precious grandchildren, Sophia JoAnn Morgan and Gunnar Cole Morgan; and her sister, Christina Davidson. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Claire duTreil. Mary died at Tangi Pines Nursing Center due to complications of Alzheimer’s surrounded by her family and was attended by many of the people who worked for her there many years earlier. The family would like to thank all of Mary’s sitters over the years, especially Betty Taylor who has been her friend since 1981 and helped raise her children and took care of her when she became ill. Also a special thanks to all of the staff and employees of Tangi Pines Nursing Center for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Louisiana Alzheimer’s Association, 3445 N. Causeway, Suite 902, Metairie, LA 70002. Ken Roberts is doing well following a heart transplant.  The medical staff will try again today to get him off the vent.  The doctor is pleased with Ken’s progress.

  • Mrs. Ferrie Gene Blackmon is progressing and will soon begin physical therapy.
  • Coach Elton Shaw is home with the flu and shingles.
  • Glen Magee, Sr. had an angiogram that determined a blockage where a stent in not possible.  He may need surgery.
  • Mr. I.W. Simmons‘ cancer is back and inoperable.  He will begin hospice care tomorrow.  Your visits and prayers are welcomed.
  • Last night, Ken Roberts‘ was doing well following his heart transplant.  Keep praying.
  • Lacie Marie Randall, 17 years old of Albany, Louisiana, received her angel wings on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, in Greensburg, Louisiana. She was born on Monday, June 5, 2000, in Hammond. She became a child of God and was baptized by her grandfather, Elder Marshall Wallace on November 8, 2010. She was an active member of Landmark Baptist Church. Lacie was a current Senior at Albany High School scheduled to graduate in May. She was focused on the future by completing an EMT licensing through Albany High and was recently accepted into LSU for the fall semester to pursue a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing.  Lacie was welcomed in Heaven by her father, Jason Randall and our Heavenly Father.  Lacie is survived by her loving mom, and also her twin, Shantel Thomas Williams and dad, Tim Williams; her brother, whom she loved dearly, Landon Williams; maternal grandparents, Karen Vial Hodges and Ken Hodges; paternal grandparents, Melissa “Missie” Wallace and Elder Marshall Wallace, Rhonda DiMaggio Williams, and Larry and Karen Williams; great grandmother Katherine Volpi Vial; Lacie’s Uncles and Aunts Jonathan Thomas, Rick And Cassie Thomas, Jabbo Wallace, Renee Rioux, Carla Wallace, Josh and Kristin Williams, Larry and Shannon Williams, and Coley Williams; the three little nephews who she loved as her own, Tristan Thomas, Logan and Lathan Williams; three friends from her childhood, Miranda Fernandez, Emily McCarrol, and Laniey Hoyt; and numerous Great Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and Friends who will deeply miss her.

    She is also preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Rick Thomas; great-grandparents, Anne Mastrapolito, Inez “Nezzie” Randall, Erwin Hotard Vial and James “Jimmy” Thomas.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Marvin Poole officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Saturday morning from 11:00 am until the service time of 1:00 pm.

    Interment will follow in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana.

  • Our friends, Dr. and Mrs. John W. (“Bro. Chip”) Sloan will be honored Sunday night for 30 years of service as senior pastor of First Baptist Church of King’s Mountain, North Carolina.  His first (of three) churches was Roseland Baptist Church!  Our Jennie called him “Chocolate Chip” the first night she met him!  Jennie was about three years old at the time.
