Tuesday Afternoon

Request from Raymond Cutrer

Please forward this email to anyone you know who will pray for Mike Pyszka’s family.  (See email below).  Mike’s wife is expecting their first child in January.  Mike lived in Colorado and worked for Cam2 International.  Cam2 and Smitty’s has a very close business relationship and Mike worked close with many people here at Smitty’s.  He was fine a couple of days ago.

Hey gang,

I just wanted to alert you all that Mike Pyszka died this morning around 11:00AM Denver time.   As many of you know, Mike was a Brain Cancer survivor.   He had a tumor removed 5 ½ years ago….He did mandatory 6 month MRI’s as check up’s…his last being 5 months ago, and he was perfectly clean.   I just hung up with his wife and she told me that he had a tumor the size of a grapefruit in his head and there was nothing that could have been done.   I will find out funeral arrangements as soon as they are made for those of you who are interested.   Please pass along the information to anyone that I omitted from this email.

Thanks

Steve

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

The annual week of prayer for international missions begins today.

What is the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering®?

Southern Baptist churches collect the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for the sole purpose of supporting international missions. Every penny of the offering goes to the International Mission Board’s overseas budget, thus supporting our missionaries and their work.

What is the goal for this year’s offering?

The goal for the 2010 offering is $175 million.

What is the 2010 theme?

The 2010 theme is “Are we there yet?”

For the first time in history, we can identify the people groups that remain untouched by the Gospel. We can get there in our generation! But that last part of the journey may be the hardest. It will take all of us – our churches, our missionaries, our national partners, our Great Commission partners.

Jadon’s Story

An angel to watch over me.

Happy Thanksgiving. I am 15 months old today. I finally got my blood work back. My keppra level was double what it is suppose to be. My mommy was so mad that it took them so long to figure out why I was sleeping so much. We aren’t 100% sure but that was probably causing more seizures as well as me being sick and getting another tooth. Well we decreased the keppra Tuesday night and guess what I’m a different baby today. It will take a couple of days to level out but I look much better finally. I had to get an antibiotic shot yesterday too. I can’t get over this congestion and cough. They also changed my antibiotic so hopefully I will get well. We finally heard back from Boston. They said my recommended calories, fats, and carbs are correct for the diet but my serving size of foods is off. They just said they are not planned out well and they agree that it would be hard to feed a 15 month old those servings. So we are in the process of finding a dietitian here. In the meantime we have an appointment in Boston December 13. We will go and see their keto team and get this diet fixed. Instead of working with 1 dietitian, we will get to work with a team of 4 people. I just have so much going on right now. Many of you know I lost my great grandmother yesterday. She was 90 years old. Mommy said to not be sad. I now have another angel to watch over me and help me get better. We love you Dot Dot and you will be missed by all of us. Mommy said she will teach me to make your stuffed peppers and king cakes when I get big enough. You were an amazing person and we love you very much.

Mrs. Ruth Hyde Spring passed away yesterday.  I’ll post more information later.

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10

Mike Benson, Editor

IT WAS ABRAHAM Lincoln who said, “You can fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all of the time; but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time…”

But there is one person you can fool pretty readily, whenever you like. He is gullible, swallow it hook-line-and-sinker naive. He will buy that bridge in Brooklyn, if you tell him it’s for sale; he will believe in flying saucers; he’ll even accept that World Federation Wrestling is real … if you will just tell him.

And who is this unsuspecting, uh, unvarnished person whom you can get to believe anything you say?

It’s you!

You can fool yourself.

Humans seem to have an infinite capacity for self-deception. How easy it is for us to convince ourselves that our actions were taken with the best of intentions. Blinded by our own pride, we accept the most ridiculous explanations for our motives… if we are the ones explaining them away.

“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick,” our Maker reminds us. ‘Who can understand it?'” (Jeremiah 17:9).

Heard any whoppers lately from a vacuum cleaner salesman…speaking to you from the mirror.  Stan Mitchell at: http://www.forthright.net/reality_check/whos_fooling_who.html

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10

DURING OUR WAR on terror in Afghanistan, we saw the effectiveness of some incredibly sophisticated weapons…

It never ceases to amaze me that we can launch a missile from many miles away and stick it right through our enemy’s office window.  Yet we still hear reports of collateral damage.  Innocent civilians standing nearby may be wounded or killed.  Or, in some cases, the wrong building may be targeted.  There’s simply no getting around the fact that anytime in explosion happens, you run the risk of doing more damage than you intended.

The same is true with explosions of anger.

Not long ago I was in a department store and witnessed a confrontation that ended with a husband calling his wife an ugly name and storming off.  The heartbreaking thing was that their little boy, who appeared to be about four, heard every word.  My guess is that someday, twenty or so years from now, he’ll be talking to his wife the same way.

You see, the husband aimed his verbal missile at his wife, but tiny bits of shrapnel pierced the soul of his son.  And that’s how it always is with anger. Mark Atteberry, “Strong Men Tend To Use Anger As A Tool,” The Samson Syndrome, 78

“A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention.” Proverbs 15:18

Have a fantastic day!
