“This people honors Me with their lips,

But their heart is far from Me.

And in vain they worship Me,

Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”

~Mark 7:6b, NKJV~

MK Elias has been moved to another hospital where he is being closely monitored.  He is still facing more than one surgery.  One problem seems to be healing on its own.  His parents and grandmother have all had a turn holding and feeding him.

Prayer requests:

1.  His duct will continue to close

2.  His heart will, in turn, respond well and begin to compensate

3.  He will be able to maintain adequate oxygen levels on his own with no assistance

4.  He will be able to take a bottle and feed on his own (no more feeding tube)

I’m sure the family is very thankful for your prayers.

Jadon’s Story: Halfway Through and a New House!!!

We made it half way through my topamax wean. I’m still doing great. My seizures haven’t increased at all. In fact, they are still very mild and very few. My mommy is home with me today so she has been watching me really closely. I’ve only had about 15 spasms and they are so little. I took my last dose of steroids Sunday. We are praying that they will stay down. Other than that we are enjoying the good days for now and thanking God for this relief in seizures.

My mommy wanted me to let everyone know that we finally got moved into our new house. We sold our house in Hammond about two years ago. My Paw let us live in the trailer by his house. (Thanks Paw) The plan was for us to buy land and build. Mommy wanted to wait until after I was born to start building so we waited. I was born in August and mommy stayed home with me until December. Mommy and Daddy started looking for land in January. That was also the month that my mommy knew something was not right. By February my family got the terrible news that I had IS. So of course we stopped looking for land. In fact, we didn’t even think about buying land. All we were concerned about was getting me better. We knew building could wait. When we look back we realize how perfect God’s timing was. We were able to sell our house when houses weren’t selling. So we didn’t have to worry about a house note when my mommy took a leave from work. Now a year later and much thanks to the USMC and VA loans, we have finally bought a house and moved. I want everyone to know that the donations you all have kindly given us have nothing to do with us buying the house. It was in our plan but with all that has been going on we were unable to. My mommy and daddy have a totally separate account with all my donations. We use that money for my medical use and expenses. We are so thankful to have that account. That account has allowed us to travel and see the very best doctors so that I can get better. It really makes our life a little easier. We love you and thank you so much for all you do for me and my family. When you pray for me today don’t forget to thank God for this relief in seizures. I can’t explain how awesome it has been for us!!

My broken arm

I’ve been making good physical therapy progress with my broken arm.  Today, I see the orthopedist again.  Pray that I get a good report there too.

Jadon’s Story:  I’m feeling better!

I went for my checkup today. My pediatrician said I wasn’t wheezing anymore. Thank God I’m not wheezing anymore. I can now stop the breathing treatments. She did put me on another antibiotic. I still have alot of congestion in my chest. Hopefully the antibiotic will help get rid of all this yucky stuff. My seizures are still great. I’m not having very many at all. I don’t have a good number for you because they are so little you have to be holding me to even know I’m having one. We did stop the steroids yesterday so we will see how I do the rest of the week. Please pray that they will stay down. I can’t tell you how much better life is when my seizures are down. I’m much happier, I’m stronger, and I babble so much more. My mommy also doesn’t have to worry about me hitting my head. I can’t begin to explain the joy it brings to my family. I will keep you updated. I got my computer back so it will be much easier. Thanks for praying for me 🙂

HENRY FORD HAD an incredibly large dream…

He envisioned an affordable automobile for every family at a time when automobiles were only luxurious novelties.  The average person traveled by foot, horse, train, or boat.  People in his day were at first skeptical of his dream, but Ford’s development of the assembly line and mass production of automobiles changed forever world manufacturing and the American way of life.

How can the dreamer know if his vision is big enough?

Several factors can help in assessing the size of the vision. First, the vision has to be bigger than the envisioner in the sense that it goes far beyond him and his abilities to accomplish it.  If he or she feels that it is within his or her grasp to accomplish the vision, then it is probably too small and limits God.  When Christians develop visions that go beyond their abilities, they are forced to bring God into the picture and begin to trust him to play the major role in realizing the vision.  When this happens, in a sense, the sky becomes the limit…  Aubrey Malphurs, The Vision Process, Developing a Vision for Ministry, 66-67

5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. 6 So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: 7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words. 9 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.” 10 So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?” 11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind. Genesis 37.5-11

May you be able to count new blessings in your life today.

“So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could understand what they heard . . . all the people stood. And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God,” (Nehemiah 8:2a, 5b-6a, ESV).

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, encouraging you to pray for small group Bible studies.

A nicely dressed man in Macau, was intently reading through a copy of God’s Word that he had just received from a group of visiting believers. The man admitted to being addicted to gambling. The problem was so bad that his wife and child had left him. He thought of suicide, but then he received the Word. It is understood that he prayed to receive Christ and was given contact information of local believers, but it is unclear what happened to him, because he only had a few more days left in Macau before returning to his home country.

Several times the Eastern Hungary team has asked for prayer for the city of Nadudvar, especially that they would be able to start a Bible study there. Praise the Lord: During a recent concert held by volunteers, some people expressed an interest. Due to cultural restraints, however, they are not open to meeting in a private home. Please pray that the team will be able to find a suitable place for the new small group to meet.

There are 10 small groups in Sunshine City, China which are not only sustaining themselves, but they are also growing in numbers. Pray for the new participants to catch the vision and be a part of rapid growth.

Team Ufa is rejoicing that 32 Bible study groups have appeared in and around Ufa since late summer of 2009. Pray that these groups will all give more attention and energy to making reproducing disciples.

* Please pray that wherever the new believer from Macau goes, he will actively pursue Christian fellowship.

* Intercede for these new Bible study groups as they seek adequate space for growth.

* Bless the LORD, the great God, for the power of His Word.

Thanks for praying today.  Find some private time for Bible study and meditation.

~Matthew 6:7-9 (NCV)~

Thank God for another beautiful day.  He likes to hear from us on a regular basis!  While you are at it, thank him for your health, a roof over your  head, food to eat, family and friends who care about you, etc.

Jeff Birch continues to do well following his surgery last week.  He’s now sitting in the shop and anxious to be back to full speed.  Thanks to his surgery, he is able to eat again.

Rene Deck is now home from her back surgery.  Pray for her as she recovers.

Be careful about the flu.  It seems to be everywhere!

Continue to pray for Jon-Michael Williams.  He is still hospitalized in New Orleans and in a coma more than two months after the accident.  Friends are hoping to get an Extreme Home Makeover for the trailer where he lives so that will include handicapped features that will be needed.  Those who would like to help can send an email to his former baseball coach and “best friend”.   All the emails will be sent to Extreme Home Makeover next week. To join others in this you can write your email to Extreme Home Makeovers and send it to RobbieRoubique@hotmail.com.  He will print all the emails and sent them in.  We’ve prayed for Jon-Michal and his mother, Brenda.  Let put some action into those prayers.  Remember, Monday is the deadline, so go ahead and send your email today.

Jadon’s Story

Orthopedic and Pediatrician Appointments

I went to the orthopedic this morning. He said that everything is absolutely fine. My feet curve in but he said that it is normal. When you are in the womb that is how you are positioned. Since I’m just putting weight on my feet, mine haven’t straightened out yet. So no its not normal for a babies feet to look like that at my age but it is ok because of my situation. He said that now that I’m putting weight on my feet they should straighten out. He wants to see me again in 6 months but he thinks everything is going to be just fine. We are so glad that it wasn’t a bone issues. He also checked my spine and hips while I was there. He said that both of them are normal too. So great news from that doctor. Now on to the pediatrician. We didn’t get good results from her. She said that I’m wheezing pretty badly. So that means xopenex. I’m not going to get better until I take these breathing treatment. So my pediatrician called my neurologist. By the way, I just love that my pediatrician takes the time to consult with my neurologist. She always looks out for me. They decided to put me on xopenex and continue the steroids. We hope that the steroids keep my seizures down while I’m on the xopenex. I have only had about 30 spasms today. They are still very light and barely recognizable. I’m still doing new things. I’m using my right hand very consistently now. In fact you can barely tell that its my weaker side. I’m also moving all around. I don’t move forward but I’m very good at moving backwards. If you look at the picture above, you will see me on the rug at Mar’s house. My mommy put me on the blue pallet and look how far I moved. Now I just have to learn how to go forward. My mommy also has to watch me really closely. I can pick up all kinds of things off the floor and guess where they go. Yep straight to my mouth. Please pray that I will get rid of this RSV. We are so ready for it to go away. Also pray that the xopenex won’t cause my seizures to go way up. I’ll keep you updated.

Pray for the Brabham family as they lay another member to rest at Pine Ridge today.

JANUARY 27, 2011

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:18-19a)

WORLD LEADERS. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Pratibha Devisingh Patil of India (southern Asia).

BASQUE OF WESTERN EUROPE (bahsk). We may have spent many hours before the Lord, seeking His face and will. But sometimes it isn’t until we face devastation that the Lord opens our eyes to what He is doing and where He wants us to focus. This is precisely what happened to Matthew, a member of the Basque Team. Everything he had previously tried was unsuccessful or didn’t flourish. His wife, Bethany, noticing that he was really down, just asked him a simple question: “What do you miss doing?” “I miss American football!” he replied. With that, came his answer. He got on his computer and did a search on American football in his city and . . . presto! There it was: a team not too far from his house. He began to attend practice. He realized that you really don’t get to know someone until you get down in the dirt and mud with them. Never before had he thought that you could do something you love and reach people with the Gospel at the same time. Since joining the team, Matthew has been able to minister to his coach, whose sister is fighting cancer. Not only that, but Matthew and the coach have a vision to begin a group of Christian Athletes. Please ask the Lord to guide Matthew as he begins this outreach with his teammates. Pray that the team will respond positively to his invitation to join this group. And lastly, ask the Lord to give Matthew the words and message that his teammates need to hear.

TAICHUNG, TAIWAN (tie-joeng). The older generation of Taiwanese has been one of the hardest groups to reach. Years of cultural tradition keep them worshipping ancestors and a plethora of gods. They also have a strong influence on the subsequent generations, both by teaching their grandchildren these practices, even from an early age, and threatening their children with trouble in the family if they accept Christ. Please pray for this generation to be turned to the truth of Christ before it is too late for them. Pray that as the Lord opens up their hearts, it will result in greater freedom and openness for the younger generations also to follow the one and only true God, Jesus Christ.

Please don’t forget that email for Jon-Michael.  Pass the word to others so they can send one too.

Have a terriffic Thursday!

I CANNOT OVERSTATE how frightening it is to lose a sense of control or influence…

People will even chose to stay in familiar situations that they know are not working rather than face the ambiguity of the unknown.  Many times, a battered wife will remain for years, even a lifetime, with a physically violent husband.  Women have reported that, among other reasons, they have stayed with brutal husbands because breaking out of the relationship was even more frightening than the beatings.  Even though the situation may be physically and emotionally abusive, such women have at least learned what to expect, and there is an odd comfort in being able to anticipate the future–even a negative future.

Before you discount the “battered-wife” syndrome as an unusual predicament that doesn’t reflect your situation, ask yourself when you last stayed in a bad situation longer that you should have.  For most of us, the unknown is so terrifying that we will remain with what we have long after it is apparent that it is punishing to do so.  Daryl Conner, “The Process of Change,” Managing at the Speed of Change, 89

15 “When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” 16 And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.” Genesis 19.15-16  (emphasis mine–mb)

Thank-you for praying.  Have a great day!

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2.10

Mike Benson, Editor

WE ARE ALL going to make house payments, and we are all going to try to raise our kids, and we are all going to do the mundane stuff that life just includes…

What are you going to do that is great for eternity?

What are you going to do that is great for the kingdom of God?

What are you going to do that is going to make you feel proud when you stand before your Savior someday with some calluses on your hands saying I was a player?

What are you going to do?  Aubrey Malphurs, Appendix B, “Developing a Vision for Ministry,” 216

“…So they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’  Then they set their hands to do this good work.” Nehemiah 2:18b

“We have placed our hope in Him that He will deliver us again.

And you can join in helping with prayer for us,

so that thanks may be given by many

on our behalf for the gift

that came to us through the prayers of many.”

~2 Corinthians 1:10b-11~

Bro. Joey said “Miss” Sadie’s family will meet at McKneely-Vaughn at 1 P.M. today.  Anyone who wishes to join them there is welcome.  There will be a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Kentwood at 2 P.M.

Please continue to pray for the many people who have colds, coughs, flu, viruses, or sinus problems.  It seems had to recover from some of these issues. but not hard for the problem to go from one member of a family to another one.

Thought For The Day

A teenager, Elizabeth, was nervous as she took the wheel for her first driving lesson. As she was pulling out of the parking lot, the instructor said, “Turn left here, and don’t forget to let the people behind you know what you are doing.”

Elizabeth turned to the students sitting in the backseat and announced, “I’m going left.”

Though it may not have been understood properly, the instruction of the teacher was a valuable piece of advice: “Let the people behind you know what you are doing.”

In Hebrews 2:10, Jesus is referred to as “the author of our salvation” (NKJV). The RSV, though, translates that phrase as “pioneer of our salvation” because the Greek word used in this verse (“archegos”) was a word sometimes used for a pioneer or trailblazer who opened up a territory so that others could follow.

I love the Appalachian Mountains. When I lived in Boone, I often wondered what it would have been like in the early 1700’s to cross those mountains — no interstates, not even any dirt roads, just trees and bushes. There were mountain men who had braved the frontier, but there was no safe and reliable way to get settlers over the mountains. What was needed was for some brave man, a “pioneer”, to open the west by finding the best mountain passes and building a passable road to the west.

The idea of the pioneer is an appropriate image of Christ. He went before us and opened up the way so that we can follow.

But you, too, are called to be an “archegos”, a pioneer who blazes the way for others to follow. There are those who work with you and live around you who are looking to you as they struggle to find the way in their own lives. You may have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and countless others who will be influenced by the legacy you leave behind. Choose your path carefully. And let the people behind you know what you are doing.

May we be able to say with Paul: “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (I Cor. 11:1)

–Alan Smith

Do you remember the book In His Steps or the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) fad?

If you think about that question this week, will you live your life any differently?
