Mr. John Nelson Hornsby, a life long resident of Jack, Louisiana, born December 25, 1936, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the age of 75.

Surviving are his 3 daughters, Cynthia Marie Hornsby and husband, James “Eddie” Gloyd, René Hornsby, and Roxane Catarina Hornsby; 1 sister, Linda Hornsby Craddock; 6 grandchildren, Ida Rain Hornsby, Joniele Marie Fairburn, Richard Jace Alexander Fairburn, Gabrielle Megan Gloyd, Hallie Marie Gloyd, Brannon Nelson Gloyd; and 1 great-grandchild, Grayson Michael Gloyd.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Marie Relan Hornsby; son, John Neal Hornsby; parents, Lester Douglas Hornsby, Sr. and Lena Leota Singleton Hornsby; 2 brothers, Charles Edwin “Butch” Hornsby and Lester Douglas Hornsby, Jr.

Visitation will be on Sunday 8/12, from 12:00p.m. until services at 2:00p.m. at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

Rhonda Davis Strickland
(April 1, 1969 – August 9, 2012)

A resident of Osyka, MS, died on Thursday, August 9, 2012 near Kentwood. She was born April 1, 1969 in Mt. Sterling, KY and was 43 years of age. She was a Special Education Teacher at O. W. Dillon Elementary School in Kentwood. She is survived by her husband, Eddie Earl Strickland, Osyka, MS; step-daughter, Kristy Dawn Morris and husband, Sean, Houston, TX; father, Edwin Davis, Mt. Sterling, KY; sister, Marsha Chavez and husband, Fidel, Lexington, KY; brother, Joe Davis and wife, Jane, Huntsville, AL; 6 nieces and nephews, Anna Davis, Daiquiri Atkins, Nikki Tucker, R. T. Tucker, Alex Chavez and Justin Chavez. Preceded in death by her mother, Clara Jane Harp Davis. Thursday Afternoon

Jeff Blackmon had emergency surgery to remove his appendix this morning.  He’s doing well now.  Pray for him and for his mother as she helps care for him.

Elaine Mixon Bennett
(July 17, 1928 – August 8, 2012)

Elaine Mixon Bennett, age 84, died peacefully at her Kentwood home, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, after a long illness. She was born in Chesbrough, but grew up in Kentwood, returning to her childhood home in the early 1980s. A retired social worker, Elaine worked in Louisiana, Kentucky, Arkansas and Arizona in the areas of child welfare, mental health and substance abuse. She loved music and served as the pianist at Kentwood United Methodist Church for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Kitty Lapeyrolerie with her husband Larry of Baton Rouge and Jackie Hickman with her husband LTC Bill (Retired) of Billingsley, Ala.; five granddaughters, Jennifer Green Williams with husband COL Brian Williams of Stafford, Va., Katherine Green of Birmingham, Ala., Elizabeth Green of Birmingham, Ala., Alexandria Hickman Breen with husband Seamus Breen of Millbrook, Ala., and Allison Bennett Fields with husband Brad Fields of Denham Springs; grandsons, Jeb Lapeyrolerie of Hunt, Texas, Ben Lapeyrolerie with wife Jacqueline of Baton Rouge, Coy Lapeyrolerie of Baton Rouge, Vance Lapeyrolerie of Baton Rouge, and Billy Bennett with wife Brittany of Denham Springs; great- grandchildren, Katie Beth and Alleigh Williams of Stafford, Va., Breanna and Kallie Bennett, of Denham Springs and Carson Gage Fields, also of Denham Springs. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Mixon Alexander of Amite, brother Dr. Bill Mixon with wife debi of Lake Charles, brother Archie Mixon with wife Brenda of Sylva, N.C., and sister-in-law Betty Bennett Bethel of Prairieville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold C. Bennett, their son Mickey Bennett, her parents Gurley and Gertrude Mixon, and brothers Hamilton Mixon and Robert Mixon.

Visitation will be held at Kentwood United Methodist Church Saturday, August 11 starting at 9 a.m., with the service to follow at 11. The interment will be at Woodland Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Percy Mac Frazier.

Mrs. Elaine Bennett passed away last night.  Please be in prayer for her family, especially her daughter, Kitty, who has been by her side for a long time.

Pray for those involved with the opening of another school year.  Today is the big for day for many of them.

Pray for Susan Rimes.  Tests have revealed more kidney stones.

Pray for Kay Forman who was stung near an eye.

Pray for Paxton Wilson who still has swelling from a fall last week.  Paxton is the son of Bro. Michael and Ms. Brandy, the new youth and children minister at FBC, Kentwood.

Thank God for the seventeen (17) people who will be baptized in the creek at East Fork Sunday.  Lot of good things have happened there in recent months.  May God continue to work in the lives of the people at EGBC.

Allen Lee Sanders was born March 25, 1967 and passed away at 8:40p.m., Monday, August 6, 2012 at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 45, a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Amite, LA.

Allen was a 1985 graduate of Oak Forest Academy and a 1991 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a BA In Business.

He is survived by his mother, Janet Sue B. Sanders; daughter, Caitlyn Ann Sanders; 2 sisters, Christina Ann Mayeux & Andrea B. Headings and husband Tim; nephews, Connor Mayeux & Zachary Headings; niece, Kaylie Headings; cousin, Dennis Stevens; 2 aunts, Joan Sanders Furr and husband Robert & Judy B. Gurley and husband Roy.

Preceded in death by his father, Jesse Allen Sanders;

Ivy Lea “Butch” Miller
(March 4, 1926 – August 6, 2012)

A resident of Kentwood, he died at 3:38 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was born March 4, 1926 in Independence and was 86 years of age. Mr. Miller was a life long dairy farmer, a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of Line Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his 2 sons, Larry Lea Miller and wife, Wanda, and Mike Miller and wife, Polly; 4 grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Miller, Lisa M. Travis and husband, Matt, and Angie St. Alexandre and husband, Chris; 4 great-grandchildren, Camryn and Samantha St. Alexandre and Jaime and Alyssa Travis; sister, Geraldine McIntyre; brother, Tim Miller and wife, Jean, all of Kentwood; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his wife, Vera Jenkins Miller; daughter, Beverly Ann Swenson; parents, Pierce and Mildred Lea Miller.
