Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
~Proverbs 3:5-6~

Mr. Bobbie Lawson is home from North Oaks.   I’m sure he is thankful to be back in Kentwood.

Nancy Carruth‘s nodule on her lungs is NOT cancerous.  An appointment is scheduled for Wednesday so her doctor can keep up with her kidney stone problem.  She’s looking good.  hank you for praying for her during time.

Operation Christmas Child

  • In a country searching for salvation, OCC shares the hope and love of Jesus Christ through shoebox gifts!
  • In 2006, OCC delivered over 568,000 shoebox gifts to children in the Ukraine! — with Maria Sullivan Galyta.
  • “Two of my great grandchildren ages 4 and 7 and I do this each year. They love shopping for the boxes to send to other children. It does my heart good to hear them say it’s for kids who need a Christmas present. It’s something I love doing with them.” – Pat J.
  • My mother is 86 and she has been sewing bags for our shoeboxes for the last few years. She also has been sewing the little tic tac toe games. She does quilting and uses the scraps. It gives her something to do and it is a blessing for our church.” – Karen C.

You can make tic tac toe boards for your shoebox gifts too! Check out the instructions here: http://bit.ly/OCCtictactoe

  • “What an honor to work with these students from McDowell Early College as they partnered with Operation Christmas Child to make over 100 bracelets, 50 cards of encouragement and 100 notepads for shoebox gifts this year. One student shared ‘It is such a blessing to send encouragement to others!’” – Nicole S.
  • It’s time to answer another frequently asked question! Today’s question – where do the boxes go?

OCC delivers shoebox gifts to over 100 countries, which vary from year to year. You can Follow Your Box and learn the country it is delivered to by making your $7 shipping donation online: http://bit.ly/FollowYourBox1

  • The boxes are collected during National Collection Week, which is Nov.17-24 this year. A zip code locator will be available on our website after Oct. 1, so you can find your nearest drop-off location. During National Collection Week, more than 4,000 local drop-off sites will open, so there should be one near you. http://www.samaritanspurse.org/operat…/drop-off-locations/
  • In Chad, the children and their families are thankful for the ministry of OCC there. “We have gotten many things we need for our school year (pen, notebooks, pencils, clothes and so on). We pray that God, the Almighty, blesses all those who remembered us this year” they declared.

From Rev. Franklin Graham

Join Rev. Franklin Graham, Naghmeh Abedini, and many others as they pray for Pastor Saeed Avedini tonight at 5:00 tonight.  Pastor Saeed has been imprisoned for two years because of his Christian faith.  Now, the danger has increased as fellow prisoners, ISIS militants, are threatening his life.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace,                                                           that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”                                                                                                                                  ~Hebrews 4:16, NKJV~

Bobbie Lawson continues to be at North Oaks where he has been undergoing tests.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Jean Easley is home, but Joe is in ICU at North Oaks again.  Keep praying for this couple.

Maxine Turner and Frances Strickland are in room 602 at Landmark Nursing Home.  I’m sure they would appreciate you writing or visiting them.

James Allen has been unable to attend church lately.  I’m sure he would appreciate a card, a visit, or a call.

Continue to pray for Jimmy Schwartz.  Some of his days are better than others.

As you continue to pray for Robbie Lynn, please be sure to pray for her parents, Robert and Linda Callihan.

Continue to pray for the families who have lost some of their loved ones lately.

Also, pray for families of those who have not yet decided to follow Jesus.

Pray that Christians will be focused on telling about Jesus and doing something to help others both physically and spiritually.

Operation Christmas Child

  • “For a long time we wanted to start a Sunday school ministry in our church but somehow just couldn’t get around getting started. Samaritan’s Purse has made that possible with the OCC shoeboxes distribution and the TGJ discipleship courses in the church. Today we have a Sunday school of forty-five and they are consistent in their attendance. Thirty of those children are involved in The Greatest Journey course. We have recently started Sunday night meetings with the parents of many of those children. There has been a refreshing in the assembly after gift distribution. Thanks to Samaritan’s Purse and glory to God.” – Pastor Bholaram, Guyana
  • “I wanted to share this awesome story with you all. One of our Connect team members received a call from Boone last year asking him to help a local woman with her boxes. It was July of last year and Todd showed up at Maria’s house to help her by picking up the shoeboxes she had already packed. Her apartment AND her friend’s apartment were overflowing. Maria came here from Brazil as a child. She first started filling shoeboxes about 7 years ago after visiting Brazil. She went to a school while there and was devastated by what she saw. A little boy was so excited to have a NEW pencil. She watched the teacher take the pencil and break it into lots of pieces for the other kids to share. She was so affected by this that she came home and started packing. She packs over a box a day and does each box individually. Last year she packed over 600 boxes and Todd has already picked up over 300 for this year. Oh, did I mention she is in her late 70’s? This is one inspirational lady!!” – Stephanie S.
  • “I received a box this year and I was so excited because it was my first time. I was happy because when I opened it there were things inside that were not just for me, there were some that I could share with my nephew. I just hope that you all will put pictures, letters or address so that somehow, we can say thank you to you.” – Shannon C., shoebox recipient
  • “Can You Make a Box for Me?” –  http://kidzmatter.com/can-you-make-a-box-for-me/
  • Do you include letters in your shoebox gift?  One more shoebox, one more gospel opportunity!

  • At FBC, Kentwood, we are progressing on collecting items for our boxes.
  • We will have our second and last craft day Saturday at 1:00 P.M.  Join us!
  • November 1st is the date for our packing party.  Everyone is invited to a Christmas party during which time we will fill the shoeboxes for shipment.
  • What a blessing this has been to me!  What a blessing this will be to many little children!  We can all be a part of “growing the Kingdom”!

Hope Center

  • It is so rewarding to be a part of this ministry.  I wish I could be there every minute the doors are open!  It will only get better!
  • We still need household items, furniture, appliances, food donations, and people to work!
  • Call and volunteer.
  • Drop in and see the progress!

Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana Missions

(from the website –http://georgiabarnette.org/)

  • Each year, the Georgia Barnette State Mission Offering draws attention to God’s work being carried out across Louisiana. Your church has the opportunity to join God in His work, but now is the time to start preparing your leadership and membership for this incredible challenge.

In recent years, superhero movies have been incredibly popular. Every manner of super-powered crime fighter has been battling bad guys on big screens across the country—and there’s no end in sight.

But when you really sit back and look at what defines a superhero, one quality sticks out above the rest: the willingness to do something. After all, the ability to fly or climb walls or outsmart criminals really means nothing if the one given those gifts decides to stay home and watch TV instead of hitting the streets and making a difference in the world.

  • This year’s goal is $1,945,000, and we need your help to make that goal a reality. As always, the funds raised in the Georgia Barnette Offering will go toward assisting missionaries around Louisiana in sharing the good news of Jesus through spoken words and loving actions. It will help them be devoted to “doing good” by being Jesus’ hands and feet in a world that needs to know Him.  (Each church sets it own goal every year.)
  • “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good …                                                                                                                       ~Titus 3:14~

  • Psalm 34:17-19 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
  • Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
  • Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

  • Isaiah 42:16 And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.

  • Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

  • 1 Peter 1:6-9 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Joe Easley

I heard some good news yesterday.  Joe Easley, who has been terribly sick, is better.  I thank God for a good day for Joe and for his  friends and fellow church people who have been so faithful to a man who has been so faithful to God.  Have a good day today, Joe.

Thanks for praying for these needs and for the needs of others who are on our hearts, but not listed here.  God appreciates when we pray specifically, not that He needs the information/reminder, but that we are going beyond saying “all the needs around us”

Remember, our theme for the Week of Prayer for state missions is “Do Something”.  What are you doing today?

Thursday

“The harvest is abundant,

but the workers are few.

Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest

to send out workers into His harvest.”

~Matthew 9:37-38, HCSB~

(As soon as I read that verse,

I thought of the volunteers at Hope Center.

I thank God for each person who has freely given their time now

knowing there is a harvest ahead.)

9/11 – Let’s pray for our country.  May it return to its strength and great image in the eyes of its people and those around the world.  I think the first step in the right direction will be to put God back in His rightful place.

Saturday

“What man among you,

if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

If you then, you who are evil,

know how to give good gifts to your children,

how much more will your Father in heaven

give good things to those who ask Him!”

The Friday morning Bible study is so rewarding to me.  Our number is growing.  Discussions are so interesting.  We are all seeking for a better understanding of the “woman of the week” as we compare her life to our lives.  Next Friday, we will study Gomer.  You can prepare for the lesson by studying Hosea 1-3.

Ladies, please don’t forget your quart-sized bags of home prepared foods for a family tomorrow.  I can tell you now that these foods will be greatly appreciated.  A family member told me how blessed the family was to have Christian friends.  Let’s be sure to live up to that great name. “Christian”, in this effort and in all we do.

Friday

“Create in me a pure heart, O God,

and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

~Psalm 51:10~

Continue to pray for Andy and Betty Taylor as he has medicine adjusted, injections in Betty’s eyes (only one yesterday), and other aches and pains.  They seem to have had more than their share in the last few years.

Susan Rimes is doing better and plans to attend Bible study this morning.  Let’s pray she continues to feel well.

Please continue to pray for Debbie Bales and her family.  Debbie’s mother, sister, and brother-in-law are all sick at the same time.  Pray she does well dealing with all these situations plus the normal stresses of life.

Hope Center

The training yesterday morning went very well.  More volunteers than expected attended the meeting.  What a great response!  More volunteers will be needed though to keep the ministry open daily.  If interested, I’m confident you will get a good report from those who got information and a tour yesterday morning.  If you are able to help, please do so.  You will be blessed!  I’ll help anyone who wants to get connected.  Rest assured, that the message of Jesus will be shared at Hope Center.  It will be a place to find something greater than food and clothing.

Sunday is the first Sunday of the month.  That means it is the day to take frozen food in quart sized bags.  I’ll have ice chests in my Sunday School room ready for you to deposit your items.  I have spoken with the family.  They feel so blessed just to know we love them and want to help them in this way.

I don’t like to ask for prayer for our world and our country every day, but events in our world and here in America are a daily reminder of how far our world is from Heaven is so many ways.  Take some time away from current events and focus on heaven today.  Pray people will be ready to face eternity because, one way or another, we will all do that one day.
