Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana Missions – https://georgiabarnette.org/fast-facts/

Most Baptists in our state are unaware of how important the Georgia Barnett Offering is in the work of Louisiana Baptist all during the year.  Spend some time on the site I just listed and learn more about our ministries because of this special offering.  One hundred percent of the money given through this offering goes to continue these ministries.  I know you will learn more by reading this site.  You will also know how important your giving is to these and other ministries.  Check the board by the piano to see how we are progressing with this offering.

Have a wonderful day.  Give part of this day to making this world a better place for others.

Thursday

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not much more valuable than they?

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana Missions

Behind the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering

Following God’s plan for her life led Georgia Barnette to New Orleans, Louisiana. It was October of 1901 when she arrived at First Baptist Church in New Orleans to do missionary work. She immediately fell in love with the city, its history, its diversity and its needs. Her work as “church visitor” soon included some work with the women as well.

Contact with the recently organized Woman’s Missionary Union of Louisiana opened her eyes to the needs for Christ and for mission endeavors throughout the state. She was elected to be the first full-time, paid executive director/treasurer of WMU in Louisiana. In this role she engaged women in churches with God’s mission that people might come to know the Savior.

Telling the stories of God at work from south Louisiana to north, from east to west, was important to Miss Georgia. Hundreds of hand-written letters to churches and women’s groups effectively led Louisiana Baptists to pray fervently for state missions. She challenged them to give to state missions. She encouraged their personal involvement. The spirit of giving that she inspired planted a ground work for the Week of Prayer for State Missions and what is now the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering. Her example is a model for prayer and giving today.

Margie Wilkinson Cutrer‘s heart problem turned out to be stress.  Lord, help people to not be so stressed.  What a difference that would make in this world.  How I wish everyone knew you and could give their problems over to you.

Gordon – Thankfully, the storm named Gordon went north of us and caused no trouble here.  Pray for those who had some damage in the storm.  Pray for those who are without electricity.

Monday

I had trouble getting this to post earlier, so I trying again.

This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:

“I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.

~Isaiah 48:17 (NIV)~

It takes many people working together to do what we do for Operation Christmas Child and the jail ministry.  Today, once again I have to thank a couple for their generous donation of items needed.

It’s time to focus on the Georgia Barnett Offering for state (Louisiana) missions.  http://waylonbailey.com/2016/09/17/who-is-georgia-barnett-and-what-difference-does-it-make/

Operation Christmas Child is near to my heart because so many children learn about God and receive shoeboxes of toys.   It is only about seven weeks until collection week, but there is still time to buy games to share.

If you are at FBC, Kentwood and interested in packing shoeboxes, please see me before Sunday School or after church.  I have boxes and instructions as well as some items to start the packing process.

If you are in a school system and would like to get a class or club interested in this worthy project. let me know.  I can share with your group and show you some packed shoeboxes as examples.

September Item of the Month for OCC Shoeboxes ~ Games

Samaritan’s Purse has suggested items of the month for packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and for September that means games!  How fun!  Be sure to check your sending country regulations, because I think some countries due to specificrecipient countries have limits on traditional playing cards, dice, and/or dominoes, but from the USA all of those are find and I’ve sent them.

One thing I really like about games is that they can be shared, and bring people together.  Some of my fondest memories of time with extended family is around a game or puzzle.

Operation Christmas Child shared the following story on their Facebook page in 2013:
“My 11-yr-old stepson received a Christmas box. He received a lot of goodies and other presents. Among them was an UNO game. Every night, we gather for dinner and after that play UNO. What makes me happier is that my 22-yr-old daughter used to have dinner in her room, and barely shared with us. Thanks to the unknown donor, she comes out every evening, has dinner and playes with us. I pray for all of you, thank the Lord for people like you and especially bless that special person who maybe didn’t know that s/he was helping a family in Panama to get closer and pray together.”

I try to pick simpler games, ones that are common around the world, and/or ones that contain things I think would be easy to make up one’s own game for.  Often there are people at the distributions who can help the kids learn how to use them, but just in case not, I try to go simpler.

If you’re worried about how to fit a puzzle in your box without taking up too much room, check out my recent post: Fitting a puzzle in an OCC Go Shoebox.

If’ you’d like to craft a game, we have DIY instructions for a few different options:

Both of the tic-tac-toe DIY instructions, also have printable instructions on how to play to send with the game.

Saturday

“So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to — the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires.

Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God’s likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy.”

~Ephesians 4:22-24 GNT~

Please continue to pray for Mrs. Bessie Hayden.  She desires to be back in God’s house, but she is not able at this time.

“Brooklyn who is 5 years is sick and going through numerous tests. Her Granddaddy, James Walker, asks that we remember her in our prayers. This family resides in Brookhaven. Thank you.”

Mike Moore got much better news than a few days ago.

Just got the call! Thank you for all your prayers. The doctor said that they do not think it’s cancer and the spot is so insignificant but wants him to come back in 3 months and do another pet scan just to compare. This is a huge relief to us. Thank you again for all the support for our family. We are blessed!

Miranda Erwins share this update on Bryan Tate.

Latest update: Bryan started his 2nd day of treatment at 6:00 pm today. His nurse said he is only her 2nd patient to not have a reaction to the first days Chemo!

Doing good. Loves to read all the comments, thanks everyone for the prayers & support.

A word about his EXCEPTIONALLY SPECIAL & his #1 nurse, Jayme Durbin. She is tops! She’s the reason he is still at MDA. Sunday he decided to come home & not do the treatments. She talked to him a long time and he’s still here. He requested that she be his nurse when she’s on duty. They made it happen and I think we have a new family member! I’ve always wanted a sister! We all love her & are so thankful for her. God works in mysterious ways.

Robbie Lynn Callihan Kirby fell twice in the shower.  Thank God she is okay.  Pray for no more falls.

Wednesday

“Look, he is coming with the clouds,”and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.

”So shall it be! Amen.

You may, or may not, remember when I asked for prayer for the Moore family, Mike and Robin.  Robin would come to Roseland to visit relatives when we were children.  I still love to see her when she comes south from West Monroe to visit.  Robin’s husband, Mike, had a tumor behind one eye.  His doctors have kept watch on him and always gave a good report, until now!  His cancer is now in the liver.  Please pray for Mike Moore and his family as they begin a difficult journey.

Today is See You at the Pole day!  Students across the nation will gather at their flag poles to pray and to be a witness for the Lord.  Locally, the students will also meet at The Lighthouse of FBC, Kentwood tonight to continue their celebrations.  Students of various schools and churches are expected to be in attendance.  Pray for our students this morning, tonight, and each day, that they will be bold witnesses.
