Scripture Writing – August 14 – 2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17

David Ray Hilbun, Jr.

March 12, 1972 – August 12, 2019

A resident of Kentwood, LA was peacefully welcomed into the arms of Jesus on August 12, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 12, 1976 in McComb, MS to his loving parents, David Ray, Sr. and Judy Newsom Hilbun. David was a boilermaker by trade and took pride in his work. He would often talk for hours about a job he was on. Moving up in his career, he always looked out for the guys that worked under him and looked at them as an equal. Often he would say, “I was in their shoes at one time.” He never hesitated to get right along side them to lend a hand when needed. On his time off, David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially the light of his life, his precious granddaughter, Saylor Grace. David enjoyed spending time on the river, whether it was running a trout line or just wetting a hook. He loved the peacefulness of the river, always looking for the “Big Catch”. When David wasn’t on a river bank somewhere, you could find him outside cleaning up his Harley Davidson to take a ride for the day. He loved the open air and the freedom of the open road while riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle. David is survived by his wife of 23 years, Brandi McDaniel Hilbun; 3 daughters and a son-in-law, Kelsey Hilbun, Shelby H. Oliver and husband, Bruce, and Harley Hilbun; a granddaughter, Saylor Grace Oliver; father, David Ray Hilbun, Sr.; sister, Misty Hilbun; 2 aunts, Barbara Ann Hilbun Graham and Dorothy Newsom Morris; fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Richard and Karen McDaniel and Jimmy and Julie Holton; 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law; and numerous cousins and friends that loved him dearly. He was welcomed into his heavenly home by his mother, Judy Ann Newsom Hilbun; sister, Tanya Denise Hilbun; paternal grandparents, Dave Odie and Maxine Lea Hilbun; maternal grandparents, Willie, Sr. and Helen Brumfield Newsom. Pallbearers will be Brad Yarborough, Skipper Venable, Kirk Keller, Barry Wall, Jerry Newsom, Jr. and Josh Newsom. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben Prejean, Keith Keller, Kenny Ray Graham, Victor Joe Morris, Roy Blades, and Claude Forrest. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7. The family would like to express their thanks for all the phone calls, visits, texts, and food throughout this time. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 10:00AM until religious services at 2:00PM on Friday, August 16, 2019. Services conducted by Dr. Danny Smith. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood. For an online guestbook, visit http://www.mckneelys.com.

Operation Christmas Child Update

  • The McKenzie four helped us for a couple hours yesterday.
  • I found the felt and foam I needed.  It wasn’t where I purchased it before, but I found it and bought all they had.  Good crafting ahead – pencil pouches and some toys!
  • We will be working at 9:00 this morning.
  • If you would like to help next week, please get with me on when we can schedule the time.
  • Sunday, you will  find two signs with a list of needs at FBC, K.  You can sign up for items to purchase in August.
  • We have made some good progress in the last month.  We got a later than usual start, but will be in good shape for our big Christmas Packing Party at the end of October.

Operation Christmas Child – I’m so thankful David is well enough now to help me with getting items ready for Operation Christmas Child.  He was unable to help last year.  David is great at removing the packaging and letting me put things in the proper place.  His walker is perfect for carrying bags and boxes from the car to the room at the church.  Without his help I would not have made as much progress as I have.  If you have some free time and would like to help, there is always something to do for Operation Christmas Child.  Of course, you can always help by shopping.  I love walking into the church office or the Sunday School room and finding items someone left for OCC.

I am appreciation of someone asking for boxes to pack and for others who have given money to help with purchases.  You can pack your own boxes or purchase items to add to the collection so we can pack the boxes at our packing party.

One thing we use a lot of is clear plastic bags, snack, quart, and gallon size.  If you can supple some bags, that will be a big help.

If you are going to pack individual boxes and want to use the red and green ones, please let me know.  I will make sure I have some ready for you.

If you want to come pray over the items that will be shipped, please do so.  It is never too early to pray for how the boxes will be influential in the lives of boys and girls.

This morning, David and I have already talked about the progress that has been made.  I’ve already looked up some new crafts for us to try.  OCC is firmly in  our hearts and often in our conversations.

A number of people from our area are touring all the sites that are so important to us as we study our Bibles.  Pray for safe and meaningful travels.  May they have great memories of this trip and better relate to the places they visit as they continue to study their Bibles for the rest of their lives.

Let’s march into July with a purpose of loving God and loving others.  Each of us is a unique person, so we each have own ways to show our love for God and for others.  The thing that is important is that we show that love daily.  Let’s go into July with a bold goal of showing that love each day this month.

Operation Christmas Child

My granddaughter, Madison, and I worked in the Operation Christmas Child (OCC) room yesterday.  A lot of progress was made.  As I worked, I noticed we need more items.  I want to share this link with ideas of items to pack for each age group.  I suggest picking items and buying multiple items of those things.  All donations can be left in the church office or the classroom next to the choir room.  This link will be helpful in getting you started.  I bought some zip lock bags and some sale items yesterday.  The day before I bought some items from Dollar Tree.  School supplies are being put out now.  I read this morning that Dirt Cheap has lots of school supplies in.  Let’s use the link to see what OCC suggests and the sales to get lots of school supplies.

https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/what-goes-in-my-shoebox-suggestions/

Let’s get the items turned in so we can have a great packing party again this year.  Let me know if you have a couple of hours to help preparing items or want to make some items at church or at home.

I haven’t been able to work on Operation Christmas Child as I usually do.  I will need some of you to step up and help this year.  Make some purchases.  I think the best plan is to pict a couple of items and purchase multiples of that item.  Need suggestions?  Soap, washcloths, combs and brushes, toys, clothes pins, Play Dough, Lego blocks (large packs that can be divided), fishing needs, individual spoons, flash lights, batteries, flat glass marbles, colorful duct tape, sewing supplies, stick deodorant, small dolls, balls, etc.  Get your family, class, co=workers, and school involved.  Items can be dropped off at the office of FBC, Kentwood.  Thanks!  Remember, each shoebox we pact will impact an average of seven people with the knowledge of Jesus!  What a great way for be a missionary!

We are not all alike, but each of us have unique ways to share Jesus.  Share Jesus in your own style today.
