Friday

That you may love the Lord your God,

listen to his voice,

and hold fast to him.

For the Lord is your life,

and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers,

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

~Deuteronomy 30:20 NIV~

Mr. Billy Travis’ surgery was postponed until 7 A.M. this morning.  That give time for more praying for him and for his family.

Thankfulness: Day 30

I’m thankful for sweet memories and thankful for “treasures” I have that bring these memories to mind.  I’m a sentimental person and love to be surrounded by my “treasures”, many of which most people would not allow in their homes.  To me they are valuable, not for their real worth, but for the people and events they remind me of.  I hope you have some special “treasures” too.

Thanks for putting up with my thankfulness series.  I’ll be back with a new list in November 2013.

The Sunday School literature that did not arrive for us last week is scheduled to be here this afternoon.  Call the FBC,K office this afternoon to see if it is here..  If so, your books will be available for pickup until 5:00 P.M.

Mrs. Helen Robertson continues to have a slow pace recovering from her broken hip.  Say a special prayer for the long-time owner of Helen’s Flower Shop on Camille St. in Amite.

Thankfulness: Day 27

Today, I’m thankful for rainy days when I can work inside and accomplish things I have on my “To Do” list.  They often become cooking days.  My family never complains about that!  I’m also thankful for the sunny days God sends our way.  He is God and knows what we need.

Pray for Randy Cutrer of Spring Creek.  He had surgery last week and is at Ochsner.

I have these numbers of the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that were collected locally last week.

  • Hammond –  2,715

Those numbers represent many children who will get a special blessing this year.
Pray for Debi Bales and her family as they adjust to their mother being at Landmark Nursing Home.
Thank God for the 7,000 youth from Baptist churches across the state that were able to attend Youth Evangelism Conference for the last few days.  May many lives be changed forever because of that experience.

Pray for family members traveling to be with others for Thanksgiving.  I pray for safe traveling and wonderful visits as well as sufficient special foods to enjoy.

Thankfulness: Day 20
Today, I’m thankful for our vehicles.  They are not new or fancy, but dependable, which is the most important to me.  I’m also thankful for roads to ride on.  Many of them are not in the best shape, but they certainly could be much worse.   I’m also glad to see road construction periodically because that means the road will be better when they are finished.
Have a terrific Tuesday!

Devotional by Holley Gerth: You Don’t Have to Do More

http://holleygerth.com/you-dont-have-to-do-more/#comments

Thankfulness: Day 14

I thank God for a husband and friends who love to garden.  We have eaten more fresh vegetables this year than ever before.  Of course, God is the real gardener.  He provides the soil, the sunshine, the rain, the seeds, and the right temperatures the vegetables need.  We have to be careful not to take too much credit.  I know it takes human work too, but it would all be useless without God doing His part.  Thank you, God for the wonderful crops you provided.  (I also like flowers.  God really has a “green thumb”!)

Do something special for others today.

Tuesday

“Therefore, take up the full armor of God,

so that you will be able to resist in the evil day,

and having done everything, to stand firm.”

~Ephesians 6:13, NASB~

Please keep Betty Simpson in your prayers as she undergoes some medical tests.

Thankfulness: Day 13

I’m thankful I have a home to live in on a cool November morning.  I also have running water, electricity, a washer, a dryer, a water heater, a stove, a refrigerator, a freezer. a dish washer, and an inside bathroom.  When I think of all the people around the world who do not have these things, I am so thankful God blessed me with all of these creature comforts.  I’ve had it easy compared to many people!

Pray for families who are making plans to be together for the holiday next week.  Pray even more for families who cannot be together.  If you know of someone who does not have a family gathering to attend, invite them to join you and your family.  I venture to say to you be more blessed than them.

Thankfulness: Day 10

Today, I’m thankful for the education I received.  Most of my elementary years I had older ladies teaching me.  They did not have all the “bells and whistles”, but they knew what we needed to learn and worked every day to teach us.  I do not remember anyone who only taught school “half-heartedly”!  I learned the same from my high school and college teachers.

As a teacher, I tried to be equal to or better than my teachers.  I worked hard and expected my students to do the same.  I was always taught you get out of something what you put into in.  I tried to pass that philosophy on.  Hopefully, it worked!
