Operation Christmas Child

  • “My neighborhood church collected items during vacation bible school. I pick stuff up all year round and have a bin full to fill shoebox. This year I took my 5 year old nephew to the store to pick up some toys he thought other children might like. He was so excited to take his bag of toys, school supplies, and hygiene items and donate them!” – Melanie S.“I was shocked that someone I didn’t even know would take the time to pray for me.” – Divine, shoebox recipient
  • On the shoebox gift distribution day, there was a girl who was very poor and her shoes were broken. When she opened the shoebox there was a pair of shoes her size. She put them on and couldn’t stop crying for joy. – Pastor Pedro, Colombia
  • “Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth. You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.” Psalm 41:1-3
  • Today at 1 P.M., FBC, K will have a craft day to make items to go in the shoeboxes.  Join us in the fellowship hall to help (no special skills required).

“The harvest is abundant,

but the workers are few.

Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest

to send out workers into His harvest.”

I thought of the volunteers at Hope Center.

I thank God for each person who has freely given their time now

knowing there is a harvest ahead.)

9/11 – Let’s pray for our country.  May it return to its strength and great image in the eyes of its people and those around the world.  I think the first step in the right direction will be to put God back in His rightful place.

we give thanks to You,

People tell about Your wonderful works.”

Senior Adult Revival – Tuesday was good too!  I’m looking forward to this morning in Greensburg.  It all begins at 9:15 with plenty of coffee, treats, friends, hugs, good music, and wonderful preaching.  There will also be enough food to feed half of Greensburg!  God blessed the gathering Monday and Tuesday.  I’m sure He will be back today.

Hope Center – The news on the air condition is not good.  Now, the expected date for installation is Friday.  Work in going on there anyway.  I will be there after the revival today and again at 8:00 in the morning.  Come join us.  The work is easier and more fun when others are there.  I know God will bless our efforts!  I have a new request, coat hangers (new or used)!  You can give them to me or drop them off yourself.  This is a project of sixteen churches.

Fall Food Roundup – Food is being collected in area Baptist Churches for the children of the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.  The truck from the home will pick up at FBC, Kentwood early Monday morning.  You may take your food until Sunday night.  Leave it in the the stairwell to the church office.  This is a project of churches all across out state.

Operation Christmas Child – Our craft day is Saturday.  We will meet at 1:00 at FBC, K to make items to go into the boxes we are sending.  You do not need to be “crafty” or to bring a craft to share, but it will be okay if you do.  This is a project of churches of various denominations around the world, not just mine.  Join the spirit of unity and purpose!

Easley Family – Joe and Jean Easley were still in Greensburg the last I heard.  I also leaned there have been others in the family with serious problems.  Their God, who is also mine, is more than sufficient to pray for them.  Join the family and friends in praying for them.

I know I have included lots of “announcements” lately, but I consider them “opportunities”.  Some of them surely are within you time, money, and physical capabilities.  You can participate whether you are a member of FBC, K or not.  Consider the task and choose the one(s) that work for you!  Contact me if you need more information.

Senior Adult Revival at NZBC

What a great meeting we had!  The church was full.  The preaching was good.  The singing was wonderful.  Food was plentiful and delicious.  Hugs were available everywhere.  God’s presence was felt in all that was done.

Today, the revival service will be at Kedron Baptist Church.  Fellowship and morning refreshments begin at 9:15, followed by choir practice at 9:30, and the service at 10:00.  If you missed yesterday, you can’t get a “retake”, but you can come today and tomorrow and experience revival with us.

Hope Center

After revival, I was privileged to work with a team of ladies from the Kentwood area at Hope Center.  It was the first time to begin organizing the things that will be sold.  The efforts of the ladies really made a difference.  There’s much more to do, so contact Sylvester Humphry or someone else to volunteer.  Remember, everyone is a volunteer. Many volunteers will be needed now and in the future.  Be thinking about how you can work Hope Center (food bank and/or thrift store) in your schedule.  Prepare to be greatly blessed.

We discovered a need yesterday.  Hope Center needs coat hangers.  If you bring some to FBC, Kentwood, I will deliver them.  You can leave them in the stairwell at the office entrance to FBC, K.

Truett Cathy was a modern day hero.  No, he did not rescue people from burning buildings or hang the moon in place, but he had a food business that honored God and was concerned about people, especially young people.  When we visit Jason, we visit Berry College where Truett Cathy invested his money and efforts to help young people in so many ways – a place to live, someone to care about them, food, camp, and many others things, but the greatest was his Christian example and opportunities for them.  Truett Cathy’s life on earth is over, but he lives on through the lives of many young people.  Truett Cathy was a hero because he let Jesus to live in and show through his life.  Well done, Mr. Cathy.

Saturday

“What man among you,

if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

If you then, you who are evil,

know how to give good gifts to your children,

how much more will your Father in heaven

give good things to those who ask Him!”

~Matthew 7:9-11, HCSB~

The Friday morning Bible study is so rewarding to me.  Our number is growing.  Discussions are so interesting.  We are all seeking for a better understanding of the “woman of the week” as we compare her life to our lives.  Next Friday, we will study Gomer.  You can prepare for the lesson by studying Hosea 1-3.

Ladies, please don’t forget your quart-sized bags of home prepared foods for a family tomorrow.  I can tell you now that these foods will be greatly appreciated.  A family member told me how blessed the family was to have Christian friends.  Let’s be sure to live up to that great name. “Christian”, in this effort and in all we do.
