Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes will be available at church Sunday. If you pack one a month, you can get five packed before the collection date.

Calculators are a great item for shoeboxes. I like to purchase brightly colored solar powered ones that can be found at the dollar stores for $1.00. If you are not going to pack some shoeboxes, you might want to purchase some calculators each month.

I’m thankful for the rain we received yesterday afternoon. We got a nice rain yesterday. Some of you who live in Kentwood were blessed with two good rains. Did you take time to than God for the rain? It’s not too late!

I had a great day today! I’m holding my own with minimal oxygen support, however your prayers for my pneumonia to clear up in my left lung are still very appreciated!

God is so good! 🙌

Rev. Bobby Spinks was having medical tests as part of the process of qualifying to serve as a missionary with the IMB when the doctor detected one or more cancerous nodules in Bobby’s throat. Surgery will be very soon. Please pray for Bobby and his family.

Mrs. Cindi Richards had knee-replacement surgery and was up walking the hallway within a few hours. Keep her and Bro. Gene in your prayers.

Jon-Michael Williams passed away at the Richard Murphy Hospice House in Hammond, Louisiana on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the age of 25. He was born on Friday, November 6, 1992. Jon-Michael was a native of Roseland, Louisiana and a resident of Tickfaw, Louisiana. He graduated from Hammond High School in 2011, and was a member of both the football and baseball teams. He also played travel ball for Robbie Roubique. He was loved by so many friends and will be greatly missed by all. Jon-Michael is survived by his mother, Brenda Gill Williams; God-sister, Crystal Gonzalez Poche’; aunt, Charlotte Gill; nanny, Francis Stewart; God-mother, Theresa McElroy Murphy; God-father, Joe Premo Sr.; uncle, Jimmy R. Williams and his wife Judy; and nephew, Michael Dean and his wife Celeste. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Mann Williams Jr.; paternal grandparents, Gordon Williams Sr. and Lenora Premo Williams; maternal grandparents, John Major Gill and Lula Arelia Gill; and uncle, John Edward Gill. A visitation for Jon-Michael will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St Helena Catholic Church in Amite, LA, from 9:00am until 11:30am with a funeral mass celebrating his life beginning at 12:00 pm. VBS “Shipwrecked” yesterday at FBC,Kentwood

I didn’t hear a total count, but I did hear that there were 97 boys and girls at VBS yesterday. There were probably almost that number of adults and youth workers. From my viewpoint, the boys and girls had a great time learning about Jesus coming to the rescue when they (we) are lonely. Day two, coming up! Thank you to all the parents who entrusted us with your children yesterday.

Some exciting news for Job and KK!

Some exciting news for the Huckaby house…we found out yesterday that Josiah’s tentative discharge date is June 18th!!! A home nursing company has accepted us and has nurses ready to cover the 24 hr nursing orders. The next 2 weeks will be busy with making sure the house is all in order & with our final training. We will also have a 72 hr hospital stay where they will have to observe us doing everything ourselves. To God be the glory!!! We couldn’t be more excited!!!

Connor Corkern

Connor man’s left lung pneumonia took a toll and he needed the ventilator to open it again. He was intubated this afternoon after giving bipap a valiant effort. Although Coye and I know this is a step backwards in terms of getting him home, it’s what’s needed for our sweetness to heal.
Caring for a child with such complex, life threatening needs is overwhelming, but our family leans not on our own understanding but HIS. Connor’s life has always and continues to be a wonderful mixture of blessed adventures that lead us to new places, new friends, and new lessons. Through our adventures we have had the pleasure of sharing our strong faith and belief that God is at the center of everything we do and is the reason we are where we are today.
We are hopeful he won’t have to be intubated long and will continue to rest and heal so he can be home soon with his sweet brothers, Annie, and momma and daddy. There’s truly no place like home, but when that’s not an option there’s no place like CHNOLA! 💙

Steve Sanders

Steve will be having carpal tunnel surgery today. Pray for the medical personnel involved in his care, his family as they wait, for the coming days of healing with limited use of his arm, and improvement so that his daily activities will not be permanently limited.

A resident of Amite passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2018 at Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Allen. She was born January 20, 1947 in Amite and was 71 years of age. She is survived by her son, John Zachary Albritton and wife, Ashley, Madisonville; grandson, Wyatt Z. Albritton; step-granddaughter, Aubrie Welborn; sister, Linda S. McNabb, Hammond. Preceded in death by her parents, John Howard Strong and Marjory Baker Strong. Graveside Services will be held at Amite Memorial Gardens at 10:00AM on Friday, June 1, 2018. Vincent Arnone, Sr.

April 28, 1940 – May 28, 2018

Vincent Arnone, Sr., a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018. He was born April 28, 1940 in Hammond and was 78 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Selena Arnone; children, Vincent Arnone, Jr., Harvey Arnone, Pauline Franklin, Melissa Landry, Joseph Arnone, Joshua Shirah and Kacie Bennett; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his 2 sisters, Josie Ruffino and Catherine Arnone. Preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lambert; son, Wayne Arnone; parents, Joe and Paulina Arnone and 4 brothers, Salvadore, Tony, Felix and Angelo Arnone. Friday Morning Bible Study – Romans 11

VBS begins Sunday night with a kick-off and follows with classes Monday – Friday from 8:30-11:30. Our theme is “Shipwrecked”. Contact the church office to pre-register and to purchase a t-shirt.

Children in Action – In missions, children are taught there are four aspects of missions, learn, pray, give, and do. Last night our class (of all girls last night) untangled hundreds of necklaces, sorted, and packaged beads that have been donated for Operation Christmas Child. We left our regular schedule to “do” missions! Most of these beads will be used as fillers for shoeboxes when they arrive in Dallas. We will be working on lots of doing in the next weeks and months. I hope you have June 16th marked on your calendar. We will meet in the fellowship hall from 9-12 that morning to work on the “do” aspect of missions some more. EVERYONE is invited to participate!

When we have the next WMU meeting in July, we will focus on doing. We will have tables set up with various churches showing some of the items their members are creating to share in various mission projects. For adults, there are the same four aspects of missions, learn, pray, give, and do. We hope to learn from each others, so we can do more and thus share more. I challenge each church in the association to show us what you are doing and teach someone else how they may can do the same. Let’s share our ideas. Let’s bring the children demonstrate and to learn.

Connor man is so LOVED!
Our boy had his ventilator removed this morning and is only needing a bit of oxygen now. His medical team in the ICU is giving him such TLC in caring for him and I think he enjoys it a bit too much! 😉
A week ago today we weren’t sure our boy would be coming home with us, but today after thousands of prayers and incredible medical care bringing our Connor man home is reality! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Connor Corkern

Up until last Friday night Connor had been well. I noticed he sounded congested, but nothing that worried me. Saturday morning he woke up congested with lots of thick mucus and fever. I started giving his usual meds, CPT vest, and breathing treatments to stay on top of it. By Saturday night he seemed better. Sunday morning he needed some oxygen, and after trying my best to get him suctioned out well enough to breathe easily I had a gut instinct that I needed to bring him in to Children’s.

I loaded him up with his portable oxygen tank and off we went. By the time I made it to Hammond I noticed he was lethargic, had rapid short breaths, and my heart knew he wouldn’t make it to New Orleans.
I rushed into North Oaks hospitals ER in tears pushing my barely breathing Connor with his oxygen tank. They immediately brought him back and started working on him. They took excellent care of him until Children’s Hospital’s helicopter arrived to pick him up. I breathed a sigh of relief watching the helicopter lift off the ground bringing my boy to his home away from home. If only I had known what was happening in that helicopter I wouldn’t have been so calm.

Ninety minutes later Coye and I sat outside of CHNOLA’s Pediatric ICU waiting to see Connor man. We had to wait an hour more before being brought to his room.

Connor had to be bagged the entire ride to CHNOLA and was immediately intubated upon his arrival in New Orleans. My boy was in septic shock, had metabolic acidosis, and his left lung had pneumonia. His blood pressure bottomed out a few times, but thanks to the incredible ICU team here, he made it out okay.

The ICU doctor came out and told us how incredibly sick Connor was and how he wasn’t out of the woods by any means. We weren’t sure if Connor would be able to overcome this illness and were mentally preparing for a life without our boy; something we dread with every ounce of our being.
Fast forward four days later, Connor is making miraculous progress. He is still intubated, somewhat sedated, but is holding his own blood pressure and his levels are stabilizing.

We know Connor’s healing will be a long process, and we know God is in control. Many people have asked us how we can be so strong, and our answer is always the same…God. When we are weak, He is strong.

Thank GOD for His beautiful mercy, grace, and love. God’s plan is perfect and has led us to wonderful destinations with our boy. He has also led us to all of you, our amazing prayer warriors and supporters. God is so good to us.

I promise to keep you all updated on Connor’s progress through this adventure. Our family sends you love tonight, and always. Thank you for following along on Connor man’s many adventures.

Joanne Seymour is progressing well following cancer surgery and looking forward to the next step in New York.

Adrian Phillips is home and so glad to be back at Pine Ridge. Keep him in your prayers.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon is no longer at North Oaks, but a rehab to regain her strength. Pray for good progress so she can come home soon.

Stanley Relan passed away Thursday. The obituary will be available today.

Take time today to work on packing a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child or purchasing some items that can be sent as fillers (small flash lights, small games, bandanas, smalls cars and trucks, hairbrushes, washcloths, soap, small baby dolls or Barbies, box of watercolors, cotton fabric, fishing kits or supplies, plastic beads, craft supplies, small tools, toothbrushes, marbles, scissors of all sizes, plastic bowls and glasses, silverware, especially spoons, small purses, socks, ens of various colors, etc.) You can turn these in to me at any time.
