It’s beginning to look a lot like a missions project day!  I hope to see you Saturday morning at 9 A.M. in the fellowship hall to work on some project for Operation Christmas Child.  Everyone, men, women, boys, and girls, is invited to participate.    This will be out last project day before the collection week, which is coming up in November.

I was asked to add a very sick child to our prayer list.  He is Lane Gottschalk.  Please pray for him.

Please continue to pray for the people in the path of Hurricane Florence.  Pray for the storm trackers as they make predictions that influence many lives.  Pray for electrical personnel and a disaster relief people as they head into that area to help the people who will have problems with the storm.

Many of the storms of our lives don’t come with names in alphabetical order or so much warning, but they some unannounced and without all the outside help.  That’s okay, because God is there for us.  He can handle any of the problems we face if we give him our worries.

Wednesday

We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

What a day with lots of memories yesterday (9/11) was.  May today be a day of preparation for people in the path of Hurricane Florence.  May families make wise decisions regarding the storm.  I clearly remember how life stopped it’s regular routine after Hurricane Katrina.

Pray for Baptist Disaster Relief teams as they get in place to begin hurricane relief.  Thank God for the many people who so freely give of themselves to help those in need.

This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.

Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana Missions – https://georgiabarnette.org/fast-facts/

Most Baptists in our state are unaware of how important the Georgia Barnett Offering is in the work of Louisiana Baptist all during the year.  Spend some time on the site I just listed and learn more about our ministries because of this special offering.  One hundred percent of the money given through this offering goes to continue these ministries.  I know you will learn more by reading this site.  You will also know how important your giving is to these and other ministries.  Check the board by the piano to see how we are progressing with this offering.

Have a wonderful day.  Give part of this day to making this world a better place for others.

Operation Christmas Child is near to my heart because so many children learn about God and receive shoeboxes of toys.   It is only about seven weeks until collection week, but there is still time to buy games to share.

If you are at FBC, Kentwood and interested in packing shoeboxes, please see me before Sunday School or after church.  I have boxes and instructions as well as some items to start the packing process.

If you are in a school system and would like to get a class or club interested in this worthy project. let me know.  I can share with your group and show you some packed shoeboxes as examples.

September Item of the Month for OCC Shoeboxes ~ Games

Samaritan’s Purse has suggested items of the month for packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and for September that means games!  How fun!  Be sure to check your sending country regulations, because I think some countries due to specificrecipient countries have limits on traditional playing cards, dice, and/or dominoes, but from the USA all of those are find and I’ve sent them.

One thing I really like about games is that they can be shared, and bring people together.  Some of my fondest memories of time with extended family is around a game or puzzle.

Operation Christmas Child shared the following story on their Facebook page in 2013:
“My 11-yr-old stepson received a Christmas box. He received a lot of goodies and other presents. Among them was an UNO game. Every night, we gather for dinner and after that play UNO. What makes me happier is that my 22-yr-old daughter used to have dinner in her room, and barely shared with us. Thanks to the unknown donor, she comes out every evening, has dinner and playes with us. I pray for all of you, thank the Lord for people like you and especially bless that special person who maybe didn’t know that s/he was helping a family in Panama to get closer and pray together.”

I try to pick simpler games, ones that are common around the world, and/or ones that contain things I think would be easy to make up one’s own game for.  Often there are people at the distributions who can help the kids learn how to use them, but just in case not, I try to go simpler.

If you’re worried about how to fit a puzzle in your box without taking up too much room, check out my recent post: Fitting a puzzle in an OCC Go Shoebox.

If’ you’d like to craft a game, we have DIY instructions for a few different options:

Both of the tic-tac-toe DIY instructions, also have printable instructions on how to play to send with the game.

Wednesday

“Look, he is coming with the clouds,”and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.

”So shall it be! Amen.

You may, or may not, remember when I asked for prayer for the Moore family, Mike and Robin.  Robin would come to Roseland to visit relatives when we were children.  I still love to see her when she comes south from West Monroe to visit.  Robin’s husband, Mike, had a tumor behind one eye.  His doctors have kept watch on him and always gave a good report, until now!  His cancer is now in the liver.  Please pray for Mike Moore and his family as they begin a difficult journey.

Today is See You at the Pole day!  Students across the nation will gather at their flag poles to pray and to be a witness for the Lord.  Locally, the students will also meet at The Lighthouse of FBC, Kentwood tonight to continue their celebrations.  Students of various schools and churches are expected to be in attendance.  Pray for our students this morning, tonight, and each day, that they will be bold witnesses.

~Philippians 1:3-5~

Today, I want to focus on thankfulness.

I’ve been noticing a vase I used in 2015.  Each day of the year I wrote something I was thankful for.  The colored papers are stored in a clear vase with a label, “2015”, and a ribbon.  I’m going to wait a while longer before I draw out a paper each day and remind myself of my many reasons to be thankful.

Probably, all of us know “Count Your Blessings”.   We don’t have to wait for a special reason to write your blessings.  It can be done on any day of the year.  November is a good month to be thankful, but any other month is also good.  It’s just a matter of attitude.

I’ve been going over some of the big things I am thankful for as well as many of the small ways I am thankful.  I hope you can find time to do this too.  You can choose to do this at random time periods, or in any organized way you choose.  I believe if you do, you will be singing “Count Your Blessings”.  It works the opposite way too.  If you sing “Count Your Blessings”, you will actually begin to focus on those blessings.

This page gives you the words to the song and some Scripture references to read and meditate on.

Guy Penrod does a good job of singing this great hymn for us.  Have a blessed and thankful day.  Anna Lee

Monday

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

~Galatians 6:9 NIV~

Buddy Morris completed three days of treatment.  Now, he has three weeks off before his next three days of treatment.  Keep him and his family in your prayers.

Continue to pray for Bryan Tate and his family as they are at MD Anderson.  What a wonderful place!   We are blessed to live as close to it as we do.  Keep praying for Bryan.

Saturday, I met Majel Dean’s sister who has lymphoma.  She has been through a lot during the last two years, but is much better now.  She and her husband both expressed thankfulness and hope.

I enjoy seeing Buddy Waller.  He’s not feeling his best, but lights up with a smile as he comes into church.

Continue to pray for these and others who are fighting a long, hard battle.   Thank God for caregivers.

Read the Bible each day.  I think I got behind one day this past week, so here is the reading for yesterday and today.

    • Titus 1
  • 27th
    • Reflect on God as holy.
    • Catch up on any missed readings.
