Newborn Jules Tanksley has had heart surgery is is doing well under the watchful care of the staff at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.  Please continue to pray for the parents as they fight for good health for their baby.

 

 

Mrs. Theople Hurst will be having a pacemaker implanted Wednesday at St. Tammany in Covington.  Please pray for her.

 

 

Renee’ Terrell will be having a procedure on her back in Brandon, MS on Tuesday, November 27th.  Add her to your list of people to pray for.

 

 

Buddy Morris had a sudden new problem this week.  Pray for him and his family.

 

 

David is home from Ochsner where he spent the last week.  Because of a blood disorder, he blood was drawn numerous times a day.  The first thing David said this morning was that it was nice not to sleep without being disturbed.  While in Ochsner, numerous tests were done.  The final diagnosis is that the new problems are related to his MDS.  Today, he will have an injection, his fourth, of procrit at Ochsner on O’Neal.

 

 

Ann Hyde Ballard

February 11, 1933 – July 17, 2018

A resident of Roseland passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born February 11, 1933 in Chesbrough and was 85 years of age. Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all she knew. She began her career as a nurse and later went on to own and manage numerous family businesses. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Ballard Durio and husband, Russell; 2 sons, Jimmy Ballard and wife, Aimee, and Freddie Carl Ballard and wife, Pearl; 12 grandchildren, Rachel Ballard, Robert Ballard, Leslie Cuti, Trenton Ballard, Jennifer Davenport, Keri Thornton, Bryan Saint, James Ballard, Josh Ballard, Logan Ballard, Baylor Blanchard, and Emilee Edwards; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Hyde and wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Sally Higgins. Preceded in death by husband, Freddie Ballard; parents, Charles and Ethel Hyde; 2 sisters, Rita Lea and Elizabeth Stevens; 2 brothers, Charles and Johnny Hyde. Operation Christmas Child Collection Week

Today is the first of eight days set aside to turn in the many “shoeboxes” that we have been lovingly packing during the past months.  You can check Samaritan’s Purse website for the location of a drop off site near you.  FBC, Kentwood will again serve as a collection site.  I am so thankful to say some friends at FBC, Kentwood will take over that responsibility so David and I can focus on his health this year.  Remember that each box not only has gifts, but also an opportunity to learn about Jesus.  It is estimated that each box will impact an average of seven people.  What an impact each box has.  What an opportunity for us “tell” children about Jesus!

 

 

 

It has been good to know The Prayer Link was missed on the days I didn’t get it published.  I only do the publishing from home.  It’s good to be back at home and doing one of may favorite things.

Danny Farris is improving from his fall from a deer stand.  He is in rehab and now well enough to have brief visits from friends.  Please continue to pray for Danny and Joanne.

 

 

Mrs. Mildred Birth fell and broke a hip.  She has had surgery.  She is now in rehab at Greensburg where she has three one-hour  sessions of rehab each day.  Her spirits are good, as always.  Don’t think a broken hip and 88 years of age will slow this spunky lady down for too long!

 

 

David is and has been in Ochsner on O’Neal in Baton Rouge since Monday.  He received four units of blood and has been carefully monitored.  He has undergone a number of tests in addition to all the the blood work to help identify the cause of his anemia and weight loss.  So far, that still has not been identified.  Testing will continue this morning with part two of a nuclear scan checking for infection somewhere in his body.

Danny Farris is recovering from rib surgery.  He is not up to company yet.  Hopefully, he won’t need hip surgery, but is up for whatever come.  As you pray for Danny, please also pray for Joanne.

 

 

The Two Rivers WMU will meet this morning at Kedron for the World Day of Prayer.  It will be a good meeting. FBC, Amite will be in charge of the program because Cora Morris is not up to it this year.  Meet at ten.  Share a meal before you leave.

 

 

 

The Two Rivers WMU is again participating in collecting stamped, religious, Christmas cards.  Bring your cards with the stamps affized to the envelopes to the Lottie Moon Tea the first Sunday of December.

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Tangi Pines Nursing Center in Amite. He was born January 26, 1933 in Kentwood and was 85 years of age. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and a retired operator for Plantation Pipe Line. He is survived by his 2 sons, Douglas Prescott and wife, Cheryl, and Clinton Prescott; 9 grandchildren, Elisha Mayberry, Jamie Prescott, Will Prescott and wife, Angie, Mike Prescott, Whitney Prescott, Brittney Prescott, Sarah Prescott, Morgan Austin, and Wesley Austin; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack “Boots” Prescott and wife, Mary. Phillip Strickland‘s surgery went well yesterday.  Please continue to pray for him.

 

 

Pete Gill has pneumonia and is at North Oaks.  Yesterday, a lung biopsy was done.  If all goes well, he should be able to come home in a day or two.  Please keep Pete and his family in your prayers.

 

 

Betty Taylor’s Update/Request

Thursday I have my second cataract surgery on my other eye I had one on one I last Thursday. So please say a prayer for me. The prayers last week was much appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Mrs. Theople Hurst will see her doctor today and learn what his plan is for her treatment.  Pray for “Miss” Theople and her family.

 

 

Buddy Morris has a three month break from treatment.  He will still get weekly labs.  Thank God for the progress Buddy has made.

 

 

Robert Strickland will be having surgery on his nose tomorrow.  Please cover him with your prayers today and tomorrow.

 

 

Phillip Strickland will have surgery Wednesday at Ochsner in New Orleans.  Keep Phillip and his family in your prayers.

Ronnie Nielsen was hosted for a meal in a church that he helped “plant” ten years ago in Romania.  He also has had numerous opportunities to share the gospel through an interpreter.  Pray for the team as they continue their mission trip.

 

 

Glen Magee will be having surger on a date not yet determined.  Pray for him as he waits to be placed on the surgery schedule.

 

 

Betty Taylor’s cataract surgery and recovery went well.  Pray for her as she plans for the other eye to have surgery Thursday in McComb.

 

 

Maddie’s Miracles 

 Maddie is about the same. They added some meds and took some meds away. She will eat crackers and broth and a baked potato today if she even gets hungry. They will start with scrambled eggs and toast in the morning. If that stays in she can go home tomorrow if not she will have to stay until they figure this out. Thanks for the love and prayers.

Operation Christmas Child “Shoeboxes”

  • Meet at the church this morning at 9:00 to help finalize packing of some of your shoeboxes.
  • If you have any shoeboxes to turn in Sunday, please bring them to my Sunday School room before Sunday School.

Amber Prine Ragan “We’re In This Together”

Amber and I spent the full day at MD Anderson on Wednesday. This was her 3 week follow-up visit after radiation treatment. She had a pulmonary function test, blood work, and a MRI done before we met with Dr. DeGroot in the afternoon. He said that everything looked good and the treatment plan is going accordingly. He has agreed to let Dr. Olsen in Baton Rouge manage her chemo treatments. However, he still wants her to return back to MDA for routine MRIs and bloodwork during the time she will be on chemo. That will be every six weeks for 8-9 months. We were in hopes that he would release Amber completely, but we are grateful for the positive results. We completely trust Dr. DeGroot’s decision and it comforts us to know that he will be monitoring her scans and blood levels during treatment.
Amber will meet with Dr. Olsen this afternoon at the Neuro Medical Center in Baton Rouge to get the next step in her treatment journey started. The chemo treatment is called PCV. It is a combination of 2 oral medications along with infusions. The chemo regimen will consist of 6 cycles (42 days for each cycle). After each cycle, she will return back to MD Anderson for routine assessments and to meet with Dr. DeGroot.
We were able to view yesterday’s MRI along with a MRI that was done before surgery. It was very visible to see the amount of the tumor that was extracted during surgery. We’ve been looking forward to seeing the comparison in the scans.
Once again, thank you for all your prayers and support. Amber continues to amaze all of us with her strength and positive attitude. She returned back to work the week after radiation ended. She is back to a normal life and is rocking her “punk” hairstyle!

Maddie’s Miracles
Maddie and Nana had a long quiet day. Maddie slept most of the day. They still have no idea what’s going on. Blood pressure has been a little low said she maybe dehydrated. We are so thankful Nana was able to come stay with her so we can work this week. She is one of our greatest blessings. We will just wait and see what tomorrow brings. They will not let her eat because she gets so sick when she does. She’s not hungry anyway so that is also a blessing. Remember blessings are always around no matter your circumstance! God is so very good ALL the time!
Brian Tate starts round three of his treatments at M.D. Anderson today.   Pray all goes well for him as he has these treatments.
Mrs. Bessie Hayden has been moved from OLOL to North Oaks Rehab.   I’m sure she is happy to be closer to Kentwood.  Check on visiting hours before you make a visit with her.

Obituary for Orin Patterson

Orin Patterson, age 19, of 343 Chestnut Ridge Road, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Mike and Beth Council Patterson. Orin was a 2018 graduate of Laurens District 55 High School and was a freshman at Clemson University. He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Orin was adventurous and an avid outdoorsman, who had many interests including blacksmithing, playing piano, and free-diving.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his three siblings, Hope Patterson, Cade Patterson, and Quin Patterson; paternal grandmother, Jean Patterson; maternal grandparents, Earl and Nadine Council; and a host of loving and supportive extended family members and friends.

Orin was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John R. Patterson.

A Celebration of Orin’s Life will be held at 4:30 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alex D. Henderson. The family will host a gathering in the church fellowship hall immediately following the celebration service.

The family respectfully requests privacy in the days leading up to the Celebration and Gathering on Thursday. They would appreciate your prayers in the days ahead.

Pray for our country.  Pray we return to the value system that our forefathers had when our country was established.  I love to hear about “God and Country”.  Too often, we leave God out of everything that is important in our lives as a Christian country.

Operation Christmas Child – I plan to be at FBC, Kentwood at 1:30 this afternoon if anyone wants to help me work with the “shoeboxes” today.  I plan to be there again in the morning at 9:00 to work some more.  I plan to have a good count of shoeboxes for Sunday.  Collection week is November 12 – 19 this year.  I’ll have a sign-up schedule for those who want to help then at church Sunday.

 

 

The Youth on Mission class has learned how to tell their first Bible story.  They will not meet this Sunday due to Trunk or Treat, but the following week they will begin work on learning their second Bible story.  It’s never too late to learn to share God’s Word.
