McClendon James Hayman

06/21/1955 – 11/19/2019

McClendon James Hayman, 64, of Greenburg, LA, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. James was a hard worker and could never sit still. He was always looking for a way to provide and support his family. He enjoyed being outdoors and in nature, just being a simple man. He was a friend and shared his servant heart with anyone he met and what you saw was what you got. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend and will be missed by who were touched by his life. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. until service at 12 p.m., officiated by Rev. Steve Miller and Rev. Tommy Smith. Burial will follow on the grounds of Greensburg Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Billie F. Hayman; sons, Brandon James Hayman and Jarrett Frank Hayman; grandsons, Aidan James Hayman and Ewan Gordon Rice Hayman; mother, Willie Mae Hayman; brothers, Rocky and Daryle Hayman; and his extended family that raised him as their own, Magee and Nancy Martin and their family; as well as a wealth of friends. OCC “Shoeboxes” – Yesterday, was a day to work hard to pack up the remainder of the shoeboxes that were delivered Monday. We also received some other boxes and got most of them packed. I want to say a special thanks to Taylor Creek for bringing “filler” items and to Luther Terrell who is so helpful in packing and moving those heavy cartons. Today, we will be receiving boxes from 4 – 6 P.M.

Thankfulness – Day 20 – Today, I am thankful for the men, women, boys, and girls who pack the “shoeboxes”. Why do they work so hard and spend money they could spend on items or needs for themselves? The answer is: They are our local missionaries who want to impact the children/families around the world in the most needy countries. Do they ship expensive electronic toys like many children here have on their Christmas wish lists? No, they ship lots of love and a desire for families to have an opportunity to meet Jesus. Also included are soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, dolls, balls, miniature cars, spoons, plastic cups and bowls, etc. The excitement for the children is the contents of the boxes. The eternal reward is an opportunity to meet and love Jesus, who already loves them!

Today, my heart overflows for the children/families who packed “shoeboxes”, the families who will receive them, and the volunteers who are working in the 5,000+ sites where shoeboxes are being delivered and packed in cartons to be shipped to the next stop on the way to the children. By the way, shoeboxes from our area usually go to Hammond and then Texas as they make a long journey to get to boys and girls who will be sooooooooo excited to open them and often cannot understand that all the contents of the box are for them! Please pray for everyone involved.

Asking ALL of my friends to please pray for our dear friend Angie Lamb She was in a horrible hunting accident this morning and is at the hospital in Springfield Mo. She’s a very strong lady and will get through this but she and her family really need our prayers right now and in the days to come. They had to amputate her leg below the knee. We are thankful she is still alive. She is still hurting and of course waking up with out her foot isnt going to be easy. Her opposite leg she just had surgery on and can’t put all her pressure on it. So walking isnt going to be easy with it being both legs.

Thankfulness — Day 19 – Today, I am thankful for numerous locations where “shoeboxes” can be dropped of so they can begin the journey to “their children”. Four volunteers at FBC, Kentwood received over 800 shoeboxes from seven local churches in two hours yesterday. Wow! Just think of the 800+ children/homes that will be blessed with gifts and all the people who will hear about Jesus for the first time. Yesterday was day one. Collection of shoe boxes will continue through Monday of next week.

Dollie Frazier needs our continued prayers. She has had strokes in both eyes. Knowing Dollie, I know how appreciative she will be for your prayers.

Denise LaBarbera Rose’s son, Austin, had cancer but now is healed and clear on the problem. Join the Rose family in thanking God for Austin’s wonderful recovery.

Macy Lee, younger daughter of Tim and Beth, will be having surgery soon to remove her gall bladder. Join others in praying for all the details of her surgery and recovery.

Yesterday, I posted about Darrell Wall problem with congestive heart failure. He called me at 7 A.M. yesterday. What a sweet “visit” we had. He is closely following the diet that doctors have given him and is confident that will be beneficial. Pray he can remain on that diet and that it will help overcome his problem.

Thankfulness: Day 18 – Volunteers! I have been working in various aspects of church life for about fifty-five years. I have loved doing so, but have to give credit to all those who have volunteered to work with me. I know God loves all those sweet hearts who give of themselves in order to benefit others in some way.

This is the week! We begin collecting shoeboxes from individual and groups today so they can begin the long journey to boys and girls in impoverished countries. I’m so excited to say this is our fourth year to serve as a collection site. If you have packed shoeboxes, please get them to FBC, Kentwood or another collection site during the next week. We certainly can’t leave the shoeboxes in Louisiana when they have such meaningful materials for so many children. Thank-you to each individual, class, club, church, who packed boxes and to the volunteers who will be working to move the boxes along on the journey.

This morning, I want to ask you to pray for Darrell Wall. He’s from Roseland and was at “David’s Party” four months ago. He is now hospitalized with congestive heart failure.

James Hayman fell at his place about a week and a half ago. Please pray for his wife and other family members.

Thankfulness – November 17 – Today, I’m thankful for household appliances that make life so much easier than it was for our ancestors. It’s a tie between washers and dryers and refrigerator/freezers, stoves, and microwaves. Thinking back to ancestors who lived without these appliances, I know I am thankful to live in this era.

Operation Christmas Child – This is the week when various churches will be set up to collect the shoeboxes you packed. It is also a reminder that you have one more week to pack shoeboxes. FBC, Kentwood will be a collection site again this year. I’ll post hours tomorrow. Remember, each box touches the life of a family, not just a child. How valuable do you consider it to be to be able to introduce whole families to Jesus by simple sending a box of hygiene items, school supplies, toys, etc.? I see each box as having eternal value! How will you make a difference for God?

Have a great Lord’s Day. If you are unable to attend church, be sure to take advantage of the great pastors you can watch on television, computer, or even your phone. There’s no excuse for not hearing God’s servants speak today.

Thankfulness – Day 15 – Today, I’m thankful for the hard times, the valleys, in my life. They help me grow enough to get to the good times, the mountains, in my life. We don’t live on the mountains all day every day. I think the growing in our lives come when we are in the valleys and facing a mountain. God goes with us through the valleys and the mountaintop days.

Thankfulness, Day 14 – Today, I am thankful for reliable transportation. Not the newest or most expensive, but reliable. Reliable transportation gets us to the doctor, to the grocery store, to church, etc. Thank-you, God, for reliable transportation!

Please pray for Don Hammons of Arcola. He had surgery this week and is recovering at home.

Emilie McKenzie has also had surgery, on her elbow. She will have a second surgery soon.

Vinessa Capro Harrison

April 10, 1951 – November 10, 2019

Mrs. Vinessa Capro Harrison, born April 10, 1951 in New Orleans, quietly departed this life the evening of Sunday, November 10, 2019 in Amite, LA. Vinessa was an active and beloved part of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She loved bringing the family together and sharing her wonderful cooking. She never met a stranger and was always there with a shoulder to cry on and a hand to hold. As a result of her generosity, caring and fun personality, she was loved by many. Her spirit and influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents Vincent Capro Jr and Florence Langlinais, her beloved husband Dennis J. Harrison, and her sister Kerrie Crocker. She is survived by her children: son William G. Henrich III, wife Mira and children Sam, Violet, Jack & Logan of Conyers, GA; daughter Kelly A. Henrich and her daughter Jarrin of Amite, LA.; son Timothy P. Henrich, wife Lori and children Emma & Adam of Sioux Center, IA.; son David J. Lambert of Amite, LA; daughter Florence Espinal, husband Abel and daughters Eva & Grace of Yorktown, VA; son Dennis J. Harrison Jr, wife Ginny & their son Henry; daughter Amanda Harrison; Paul Lambert Jr, wife Denise and their four children; and two great-grand children Liam & Adeline Creel.She is also survived by her significant other David Carroll of Amite, LA; sister Dana Poche Donovan of Slidell, LA; brothers-in-laws William Ola & Joseph Crocker; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services to be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at 2pm at McKneely Funeral Home in Amite, LA. Thankfulness: Day 12. David’s blood level was 9.3 yesterday, not bad since he had not had Procrit for two weeks. He got it yesterday and already has orders to get it next week. We had not heard of Procrit this time last year, but are so thankful we have had the opportunity to have David benefit from it. Can you imagine the medical scientists who worked to develop and test this drug to help people? We run to the pharmacy or the doctor for medications that benefit us without thinking about the long process of developing them and getting them to us when we need them. Today, I am thankful for David’s access to this and other medications. I”m also very thankful they are available to others too.

Burrell J. Carter

June 17, 1935 – November 11, 2019

The Honorable Burrell J. Carter, born June 17, 1935, passed away on November 11, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Judge Carter was a lifelong resident of Greensburg, Louisiana. He was married to Helen Bridges Carter for over 60 years. Judge Carter graduated from Greensburg High School as Valedictorian in 1953 and attended LSU and LSU Law School, graduating first in his law school class of 1958. He served in the Army during the Berlin Missile Crisis and rose to the rank of Captain. He practiced law in Greensburg until 1974, when he was appointed District Judge, 21st Judicial District, where he served until being elected to the First Circuit Court of Appeal. He served as Chief Judge of the First Circuit Court of Appeal for over 10 years, overseeing the planning and construction of the First Circuit building on Capitol Lake. He retired in 2012 but continued to serve on ad hoc appointments to many courts, including on multiple occasions, the Louisiana Supreme Court.

His civic pursuits were widespread including being elected Mayor of Greensburg at 21 years of age, and he served as President of the Southeastern Louisiana University Foundation, Adjutant General of the State American Legion, Chairman of the Greensburg United Methodist Church Administrative Board for over 30 years, President of the 21st Judicial District Bar Association, and three-term Chairman of he Louisiana Conference of Court of Appeal Judges. Judge Carter also contributed many articles to national and state legal journals.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Bridges Carter, son, Representative Robby Carter and his wife, Kerry Anthony, daughter, Libby Peak and her husband, Craig, grandchildren Taylor Carter Peak, M.D., Captain David Kramer Peak, M.D., Robert Burrell Carter, Helen Ruth Carter, and Jessica C. Ledet, J.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. Carter and Elizabeth J. Carter. Judge Carter was especially proud of the accomplishments of his family, whom he loved dearly.

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home in Amite, Louisiana, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 and at Greensburg United Methodist Church from 9:00 a.m. until funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019. A resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA. She was born May 22, 1920 in Amite, LA and was 99 years of age. She is survived by daughter, Kathy Faison; son, Joseph J. Schillage, Jr.; 3 grandchildren, Julie Schillage, Chris Faison and Cristie Kent; great grandchildren, Cole, C.J. and Lilly Faison, Easton and Jaxson Calogero; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Schillage, Sr.; parents, Mike and Anna Campo Catalanotto; 9 brothers and sisters, Charlie Catalanotto, Joe Catalanotto, Bill Catalanotto, Jake Catalanotto, Vince Catalanotto, John Catalanotto, Mary Cavaretta, Lilly Campo and Cat Catalanotto. I think we need to pray about the cold weather which is expected soon. Be prepared. Stay in when the roads are icy. Stay warm. Who do you need to pray for during this extra cold season? Who do you need to help in some way? Make good decisions!

Louisiana is leading the state in flu cases! That fact, plus David’s compromised immune system, caused us to decide to limit our crowd exposures for a while. We plan to miss services at church Sunday mornings. David does not have a new problem, but we are hoping to prevent one. We are trying to keep him as healthy as we can.

Please pray for our friends, Cete and Ruby Dillon. She is not feeling her best.
